Can we change SIM card keeping our data? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I am a new BA user. I noticed that to change the SIM card the BA restart " as new" and all data is lost. Is there anyway to change SIM card keeping my data?
Thank you all

Hi
Although I've never done that before (and now you scared me to try it )
I think it's not true.
In order to change SIM, you had to remove main battery. Notice that in this case, the internal backup battery will stand only for few minutes, keeping RAM alive.
Maybe you just weren't fast enough, changing your SIM.
Another thing. When you put main battery back, BA won't use it until you power it on. So putting main battery back, but not waking BA will cause data loss in few minutes.
Maybe i'm wrong.. Maybe I'll play with it later.
Good luck

The only secure way to change SIM is making this with BA conneted to the main power. I try a few times and in all I had my BA hard-Reseted.
Be careful!!

I try on my BA to change the SIM card many times.. and no problem so far the backup batrery is fully charged !!!

Hi again...
I've checked it also.. No data loss..
Dcoelho if you always get data loss when changing sim, it maybe the problem of faulty backup battery (indra9110 suggestion).
Here's what you shold do:
Remove main battery but don't change the SIM !
Just wait minute or so (same amount of time you used when you changed SIMs)
And then replace the battery and see.
If you loose data, it will be obvious that not changing SIM, but only removing battery gets you data loss.
See Settings->System->Power Backup battery power bar.
Maybe it doesn't get charged properly.
Or maybe it says it's charged but it's not (I've seen such case on HP H5550).
Check the thing and report

I have done it many time, iv also dropped the BA the battery has come off, just plug it back in, i find that it only softresests when i remove.

I supose this works similar for Blue Angel as for Himalaya.
Just turn off radio (go into flight mode) before changing sims will avoid your device to hard-reset.

Battery dead overnight /

Has anyone seen this: my battery was fully charged at the end of the afternoon, I made a few calls (not too long). The day after my machine did not react; after placing it in the cradle it finally came to life... EVERYTHING WAS GONE.
One would think that a daily sync would backup most stuff, but this has proven to me a major misjudgement of mine... My daily time4life reporting is gone. This sucks.
Anyone knows how to recover this? Why isn't the information safe on this machine?
Yep, get sprite back-up it has a battery monitor function.
Turn the Bluetooth and wifi off when you dont need them.
Save your work on the SD card
Regards
The Pilgrim
If you live in an area of poor network coverage, it is advisable to switch off the radio overnight. If the phone can't get a good sugnal it constantly polls looking for a better signal and draining the battery.
But we're living in de 21-th century... Surely some power can be held in reserve to save the memory...
It sucks bigtime!
But, I will look at sprite backup and will put My documents on the SD card.
Thanx for the tips
I had a similar issue but caught it in time...
I was using an MP3 player and had launched the camera function by accident. On taking the thing off my belt, it was HOT  and had hardly any battery left.
I suppose from an 85% battery, using for 1 hour with the MP3 and camera app running had exhausted the battery. Very worrying, but more so was the XDAIIs was so hot - either the battery or the main unit - not sure.
Have used the MP3 on its own for several hours with no probs, so I can only surmise that the camera eats battery power....... so, could it have been that which was running on yours, hst?
Sorry complete newbie to the XDA IIs here after having ditched my Ipaq H6365. (I only had that for 7 days so not exactly a seasoned ppc user)
When you say you lose everything when you have a flat battery what does that mean? Is this the same as a hard reset? Installed programmes gone?
Is it all emails, text messages and contacts?
it is worrying if so as I travel a lot and sometimes might not get chance to charge my XDA and can do without losing these. is there a way to save your contacts etc to a storage card?
Thanks
For all the n00bs and people who don't know...
The XDAs have different types of memory. The Operating system is kept in "Non volatile" memory. This is safe, even without power.
Now, all the programs and your "Documents" that ARE NOT kept on a storage card and kept in the "volatile" memory. This needs constant power otherwise, it wipes it!!!! This is like doing a HARD RESET! Installed programs, e-mail, pictures, etc - GONE!!!!
As far as I'm aware there is NO WAY to recover from volatile memory that has lost it's power.
Regards,
Dom
PS: If any of this is wrong - feel free to correct me!
Well I found out that everything is gone. Still a simple user like me expects all memory to be non-volatile... or at least that when the battery is low, the system will hibernate or something, until it has enough power to operate again. I don't care about e-mail and other recoverable stuff, but I do care about the recording of my billing hours which kept in de database folder!
Bugger.

how to switch off my spvm2000

hello, from the beginning, i've don't know how to realy switch of that device. i've searched every where, i didn't find. i'd look for sofware that do that, and they juste put it in stand by.
if some one had a solution, give me please :!:
thanks
hi...
i don't know specifically the spvm2000,but all ppcs don't shut down like desktop computers....they just stay in standby mode...
now if u want to shut down ur ppc phone edition,so u can turn off the phone, then it's not the way u do that....u can just tap on the signal icon on top of ur screen, then choose "turn on flight mode"....
RAGO
yes yes, i know, but, at night when i sleep, don't need my ppc to be in stand bye mode. a complete turn off would be great, this will cause battery to last longer i think
You could always just take the battery off This probably won't help either though, because it'll still draw power from the backup battery.
You've probably got to accept that PPC battery life isn't great. I've recently moved from a Treo 600 to an M2000 and the battery life is noticeably worse, but then I get to do more stuff with it.
I think some of the phone profile software may allow you to switch the radio off at certain times which would probably help. You could also try Pocket Hackmaster which allows you to configure the processor speed (although I've been trying this for a couple of days and I think I need to do more reading because I seem to have made matters worse ).
ok, i've juste done a test: remove the battery, and replace the battery: no power comsuption of the external (backup) battery, and no data lost. so, now, just find a software to remove and replace the battery

Win $5 today!

Hello EveryOne,
I have Imate PDA2K and any one who is going to solve my following two issues i will pay him $5 as a gift from me by PayPal.
The problems are:
1. When ever i remove the battery of my phone to change the sim card the time and date changes to the default time and date something like the manufature date. I try to upgrade the rom to wm5, then wm6 but nothing help. Even the backup battery is showing 100% full all the time.
2. When ever i try to call i press the answer button but the call don't connects. Some times connects and some time i have to try hundreds of time to connect my call. Same thing is for the recieving the call. Some time it connects and sometimes it hangs during answering the call.
I will really pay $5 who will help me to sort out these problems. I buy this device as pre-owned device that's why not able to get help at clubimate.com and hence plan to get help here and pay a part of pre-owned fee to someone here.
Thank you,
1.) it's a backup battery problem, change the backup battery.
eventhough it says 100% doesnt mean it's not failing.
the backup battery is charging from your main battery.
it may show 100% but easy recharged when you put the main battery.
if it is easily recharged... it will easily discharge... hence, flat batt.
2.) i dont know this but it maybe related to main battery failing to give power to the phone module. i had a BA with no service /and/ talks disconnection once but when i changed to a new battery it was gone.

I have changed the battery today and it done the same call answering problem just one time in over 20 calls before this ratio was 99% of 100% times.
What else may be creating this problem of hanging mobile during recieving the call. And also please tell me which rom of wm6 is best you think i will use?
install 2003se rom back, if u hv 2005.
try xplode's latest cook. it's in the WM6 thread of BA
The rom does not matter (well mine is a lil quicker than others but)
1. Simple SIM change procedure - press power, wait 10-20 sec. , then remove the battery and change the sim. after powering on hit reset once (or you will get no radio) - this way the date will not reset
2. Phone LAG - this problem occures when a lot of memory and cpu power is used for the OS, then the phone starts to lag. Here is a simple tweak which will speed up the phone app - press Start => Settings => Sounds & Notifications , remove the check for Events (warnings, system events)
there are a lot of tweaks which will speed up overall performance of the phone, but you need to search the forums for them
And remember, the phone app is the same for all WM5/6 devices so the tweaks are the same, you can look in other devices forums for tweaks
Thnx Every One!
Hello,
Thank you every one for your replies.
I changed the battery and currently checking it to make sure the problems got solve out.

Maybe is battery wrong.
There may be a hardware issue. Did you bring it to the Samsung service? You might get a replacement...

Sim Management killing battery any help??

Hi All, after all possible ways to fix my P2, I am getting little angry, as thanks to help people here, I sourced full S233, and done full format and fresh installation, but still no any ringtones or sounds available, no problem, used backup form Z2, and this should be covered, media was high on battery drain too, no problem removed sd card, find out something is not right, as media gone back to normal, backing up 80gb of data a reformatting sd card, but what is wrong with sim management - hammering battery heavily, on gsam pro - showing 75 % of battery consumed by combined app CPU !!!
What is could be???? Tried sim 1 and sim 2 tray no difference. I know there is bug which keep Phone idle high, but this is nothing against sim management, anyone with any suggestions??? Many thanks..
ok, find problem, it was corrupted photos and video file on sd card. all back to normal SOT 12-13 hour per charge..
How did you identify the corrupt photo/video? I am having similar problem.

I am now experiencing the same thing. Could you please elaborate?
I just switched devices and transfered the content from my daily driver P2 to my spare P2 via Nandroid/TWRP.
I think I've had this problem before and that it had something to do with using airplane mode for an extended period of time.
