GPS Data out of XDA Serial Port - General Accessories

I have a Tomtom Bluetooth GPS I need to get GPS information from the XDA to connect to a APRS system. I need to get the following information from the serial port GPS Data Out, GPS Data In & GPS ground.
Has any one got any idea how i can get this information out of the Serial port. Any help appreciated...
Thanks Stuart

hi
It'll be hard.
It's impossible to achieve without special software (which I don't know about).
The software would have to receive GPS data from bluetooth com port (eg. com8) and channel it to software com port (for TomTom) and to hardware com port (bottom xda connector).
I assume You won't be able to write such program.
My suggestion is to get a second GPS recevier (cheapest serial GPS mouse) to serve your APRS (whatever it is )
Good luck.

adding bluetooth to xda 1

Hi all,
I am working on adding bluetooth to the xda 1. I have searched on the net for a serial BT board because usb is not a option. Turns out that almost al BT boards found in the cheap usb dongels have serial / pcm and usb connections on it.
the best manufacturer I could find is CSR they stack almost everything in a smal package and there is lots of info on there web site.
Since I am mainly a hardware guy I am a bit stuck on the software side.
I am looking for a way to make my xda talk to my BT board.
I was thinking of reassigning the bt com port (ppc 2003) to my external com port through the registry, but which key to attack for that ?
Perhaps trade in my IR port (dont use it) this will voidyour warranty but I dont have any.
Also finding a piece of BT software to drive the board is hard to find, i Got some from a CF BT card. but no luck so far.
Any body who can help me with this ?
thanks in advance.

XDa o2 GPS Polstar Not recognising serial port connection

I have purchased a Polstar Gmouse GPS with XDA serial and power cable. The GPS seems to be powered up but the software on the XDa says it does not recognise a connection. All possible com port settings and speeds have been tried. My first question is Has any one connected a gps device through an XDa o2 serial / sync connector succesfully ?
My second question are there any settings in the windows software to control the serial connection to plug in devices ?
I am about to return the GPS products for a refund but I thought I should ask for help first.
Cheers

Go to settings/connections, make sure that the recive incoming beams box is UNCHECKED. If you have the driver for external keyboard loaded make sure the driver is disabled. In your gps software choose nmea 4800 and Com 1. If you have done all that then I would suspect the cable or the gps. I have used many different serial gps devices on xda and xda 2 and it works 100 percent.
Fan bloody tastic
Well I was going to post a similar question as the OP but with a little browsing, it looks like I may have found my answer. Will go & experiment, if it fails.....I'll be back!!! Watch this space! 8)
Cannot open com1 port does not exist
I have had a major problems connecting my GPS recently and not thinking!!! I had recently bought a infrared keyboard. You're instructions worked perfectly. You have just solved my problem. Many Thanks

HELP!! How do I get COM 1 to work?

I cannot open COM1 on the Blue Angel
As far as I know this COM1 relates to the Pin headers RS232 connection.
I want to feed a GPS signal via this COM1 path.
Has anyone manage to make use of the COM1?? :?
Martin, go to Settings/ Connection tab IrDA and uncheck the "recieve all beams" check box, this ties up the serial port on the device, also if you use an external keyboard with the unit, or it has external keyboard software loaded open this application and switch the software from Keyboard to IrDA/ Serial - hope this gives you a clue - Mike
thanks this helped me too
Thanks
This sorted out my problem...TomTom is now alive and kicking

Using Artemis as GPS receiver for Windows

Hi!
Is there a way to use the GPS receiver that is built into the Artemis as a GPS Device for Windows (XP or Vista).
Maybe over Bluetooth or USB / ActiveSync connection.
I tried to set up Bluetooth COM Ports so Incoming BT connections connect directly to the GPS COM port, but without success... no gps data was coming through.
Also I search for a small tool to test the receiver... just a compass or something.
regards,
Daniel
You cannot just "bridge" the GPS com port to your desktop OS via BT. The BT stack was never designed that way. All BT com ports you use must have a piece of software behind it to fill it with data, or otherwise they are just empty cans.
In your case, you need a GPS splitter to get gps signals from the GPS com port, and then repeat it to a BT com port so that the other end can receive such signal. That will provide a working bridge for your data.
Try software such as gpsgate that works as described above.
Hello, you can try GPS2Blue is a little free program that will let you use your Artemis as a GPS.
You can find it here: http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html
Enjoy.
i got myself GPS2Blue and installed it.
My problem now is, that i cannot set up a BT COM port!
I have the (german) B&Bv3 ROM (WM6). In Bluetooth Settings in the "COM Ports"-Tab. It says "Tap on 'New outgoing port' ..." but theres no button or something. Just the describing text and an empty ListBox.
since I cannot set up my COM port, GPS2Blue won't swich on right?
So... is this a WM6 bug or a B&B Bug or my brain-bug
Setting up COM ports in my firmware WM5 OS worked just fine.
Thanks you guys for the info!
but what to do now?
GPSgate can do what you want (but it is not free)
gpsgate can set up bluetooth com ports? i dont think so
this is not a gps problem anymore!
i posted a new thread for my new problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315687
GPSGate can do it!!
Use this is the registration key:AmzeaBjw
Then your Artemis can pass GPS information to your PC through Bluetooth
Fransons GPS Gate will enable the sharing of GPS position to a number of different types of device, I am not too sure about posting a registration key for purchased software as these are specific to an individual user??? - Mike

About using phone GPS as PC GPS receiver

there has anyone can do, how to map phone's com9 to PC?
for example:
serial port over network utility....
GPS2Blue
Don't know about mapping hardware port through network, but GPS2Blue seems to be a solution for using your device as an external GPS for your notebook/desktop either through Bluetooth or TCP/IP.
thanks, it's really can map the com port!
thank you a lot!
