WiFi won't turn on until soft-reset - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi,
I tried searching for this, but couldn't find anything, so I'm hoping someone here would be able to help out. I currently have a Siemens SX66 ROM v1.40.00 WWE, Radio v1.13.00 ExtROM v1.40.125 WWE
Now, it's strange, but, if I don't have WiFi activated for an extended period of time, and I try to turn it on from the WiFi Manager but what happens is, I'll get that rotating "wait" icon with the colors, and then the WiFi will NOT turn on. However, if I perform a soft-reset (which I don't like having to do, cuz then the "phone" is out of commission until it's back up and running), the WiFi'll be automatically on when it finally loads up fully from the soft-reset.
I don't suppose anyone knows what causes this, and if there's any way to fix this? I'd be forever obliged!!
Thanks,
Quordandis

Hi quordandis,
That sounds like a faulty ROM version. Have you tried a newer or a different ROM version?
Does WiFi work again normally after a hard reset?

I've seen similar behavior on my SX66 with sysrom 1.40. It only started about a week ago, when I was running radio rom 1.12 and extrom 1.40.124 (both of which I'd been running for months). Last weekend, I upgraded to radio rom 1.13 and extrom 1.40.125 -- WiFi works a little better, but it still gets into a mode where it won't connect, and requires one or more soft resets.
The fact that it started only recently suggests a hardware issue -- if it were software, updating the radio & ext roms (each of which involves a hard reset) should have fixed it.

Well, if it is a faulty ROM, then would reflashing the radio rom do the trick? I'm guessing by your question that i may not have the correct radio rom installed. How would i go about discerning which is the correct one?

I don't think it's a faulty ROM. I'd been running the same ROM for months when the problem started, and updating the radio & ext ROM didn't improve things too much.
If you want to get new roms, the SX66 Standardization Project is the place to get them.

I have this problem too on my pda2K. Using the latest ROM build from imate.

My experience and that of others on the forum suggests to me that this is indeed a software/firmware issue.. Most likely a conflict between the radio, bluetooth and wi fi components for the various ROMS in use on the BA. personal experience is that wi fi was just horrible on my original O2 1.31 ROM with 3500 Bluetooth stack, better on the 1.40.176 i-mate ROM, and better still on my current 1.40.923 O2 Asia ROM. So unless I have some kind of self healing hardware built into my device, my money is on the ROM as being at the heart of this particular issue
Regards
Chris

well,to me xda phone r good in reset thats all.

I have the same problem too..
Did a flash of the ROM from the seeo2.com website..
Still happening.. I'll almost bald due to this problem..
Currently waiting for the WM5 to be stable.. before I get myself into more hair loosing project or attempts.

So,
I still don't know what I should do. I originally updated the radio rom from the blue angel standardization site. I don't know what to do at this point. I HATE having to soft-reset every time I want to get WiFi up and running.
The wierd part is, sometimes after it being on for an extended period of time, it'll work fine, and sometimes, it won't...I don't know what to do at this point...
Thanks,
Quordandis

Hi quordandis
How are you turning the wifi on and off? With the green wi fi manager button, or via the wifi/gprs connection Icon thats at the top of the screen next to the signal strenth indicator. Also, are you turning it on and off frequently or just leaving it on all the time?
Regards
chris

Yes, I'm using the WiFi manager, the little antenna icon on the bottom of the screen, when I tap it, loads up 3 options to connect to the internet each with it's own button GPRS, Bluetooth, and WiFi. I would normally tap the WiFi button (the last of the 3) which normally turns on the WiFi antenna, and it begins searching for available wifi networks, but sometimes, i'll tap it, and it'll just stay orange (instead of green when it's turned on). I won't even get an error message or something (which happens sometimes when I try to turn on bluetooth - something about insufficient memory or whatnot - anyone have a solution to THAT too?)
I don't leave my wifi on all the time, as I don't always have a wifi network readily available...
Any suggestions?

Hi quordandis
Give this a try....
1. Move the BTTRey file out of the start folder and into the start menu folder.
2. Go into start/settings/menus and select this file so that it shows up when you drop down the start menu. This will allow you to easily launch bluetooth when you need it
3. Softrest the device. It should restart without the bluettooth icon appearing at the bottom right of the screen.
4. launch the wireless icon at the bottom right of screen and then turn wireless on if it is not already on.
5. From this point only use the GPRS/WIFI icon next to the signal strength indicator to switch between GPRS and WIFI
I believe that there is some kind of conflict occuring between the bluetooth, GPRS and WIFI that is causing this problem.
Give that a try and see if it helps
Regards
Chris

Hi,
I don't understand something. Why should moving the BT tray icon have any effect on my wifi. Would you mind explaining how this would "fix" my wifi refusing to turn on?
The only time I activate gprs, is from the taskbar icon on the top of the screen that's a little "G" otherwise, BT is usually turned on from the BT icon, and WiFi from the little antenna, which really loads up the wirless lan manager that shows me the status (whether wifi is off, or searching, or connected) as well as the connection details like SSID, Tx Rate, MAC address, IP, etc etc
Thanks,
Quordandis

Hi Quordandis
Moving the BTTRay file from the start folder will prevent bluetooth from loading on startup. My personal belief, that I can only validate from annecdotal evidence, is that the combination of bluetooth, wifi and gprs all running at the same time causes some kind of conflicts that inhibit switching between communication channels. By stopping bluetooth, you eliminate one source of possible problems. Now I have no idea if this can be explained in a more technical way, but all I can tell you is that when I operate in this mode, my GPRS/WIFI switching is pretty stable. I have not really looked into why. Just thankful that it is!!
regards
Chris

I had the same problem having BTTray in startup folder and PDA2K unidirectional patch installed.
The way I get back WIFI connecting is :
Start - Settings - Connections
Connections
Configure Proxy server
Check "This network connect to Internet"
Leave "This network connect to internet through Proxy server" unchecked.
This made me the trick to get back my WIFI connection.
I can now play with WIFI again !
I still have BTTray running from start folder.
The PDA2K Unidirectional patch correct the "nosound" problem when calling.

Also, and I forgot to mention, turn on/off bluetooth.

Even worse wifi...
Hi all,
My wifi is even worse than that of quordandis!
The following is the case:
1. I launch wifi manager with the little antenna in the bottom right corner.
2. In the upcoming window (where all th einformation on wifi networks such as SSID, signal strength etc. are shown) I check the checkbox in the upper left corner and hit OK.
3. The little "wait" circle with the colors comes up and rotates, and then just disappears both the wifi manager and the colored circle.
4. The wifi LED (left greenish) starts to blink.
5. However absolutely NO network is found! The little antenna in the bottom right corner has the red line accross it again (wifi off). So I hit the little antenna again, wifi manager comes up and the checkbox in the upper-left corner is UNchecked and it says: "Wireless is off". But the green wifi LED is blinking!
6. I check the box again, hit OK, colored wheel, and then the same happens.
7. I give it a soft reset, it boots up. Green wifi LED is blinking, but no networks are found and the little antenna has the red line across it. I hit the antenna, wifi manager comes up, checkbox is unchecked, "Wireless is off". But the green wifi LED blinks!
8. I can give it as many soft resets as I want, the green LED keeps blinking (until I hard reset the device!!!), but wifi never ever turnes on.
I tried this whole procedure with:
a) 1.22 GER ROM, 1.06 Radio
b) 1.42 WWE (T-Mobile UK) ROM, 1.13 Radio
c) 1.42 GER ROM, 1.13 Radio
and the same (above written) happens. Anybody any ideas?
I bought the device used and wifi has never ever worked for me. Maybe the seller broke it and didn't tell me, but I cannot ask him anymore.
Thanks for any suggestions (I will try disabling BTTray, maybe that will help...)
Cheers,
tomiki

I've had this problem on my XDAiis from the day I bought it - it seems to me that some drivers may not be too well behaved and possibly leave bits loaded, and the useable memory for Wi-Fi and BT drivers diminishes to a point where they cannot load.
I have had the same problem on occasion with BT too.
This only seems to happen after the thing has been running for a while (several days in my case) and I then try and use wi-fi. I haven't been able to fugure how to free up any memory - the supplied memory manager only seems to let you kill applications. On my 9210i, I had a memory manager that would 'compress' the memory and free up all those bits that were left resident from rougue apps and drivers. Need something similar on the BA really....

Since problem is there since i bought my BA last year and this problem is only related to WM2003SE. This problem happens because of lack of ram memory. So when you try to start Bluetooth or Wifi it wont run because of not enough memory. Stopping programs wont help and in most cases you need a soft reset. And i think that problem happens in all Roms.
For this reason i have switched to WM5 even though it is not stable. In WM5 you can switch on/off the bluetooth or wifi without any problems.
Hope this helps.

O2 Xda IIs "wakes up" by itself!!!

Ok, I am getting increasingly frustrated trying to resolve an issue... my Xda O2 IIs keeps "waking itself up" ....aaaargh!!!
I hit the power button on the top to shut off the display (it saves power and enables me to lock the other keys from being accidentally pushed) but after a very short time, the screen comes on by itself, and I can't figure out WHY!!!!
While just sitting on my desk or out on the road, not in the cradle, I noticed, from time-to-time, that the "G" Icon at the top is often replaced by an "x" and the 'left/right sync arrows' ...so I naturally thought it was trying to connect to something.
I thought it might be trying to connect to GPRS, so I removed the connection. It didn't fix the issue.
I thought it was a Bluetooth File Transfer issue, so I deleted that connection also... still no resolve.
I checked my ActiveSync settings, and it all looks ok.
PLEASE HELP, it's killing the length of life in my battery on a daily basis!!!
i had the same problem when i was on the o2 rom, i sorted it by getting shut of the o2 rom and installing the imate 1.40 rom.... it runs faster, better and never needs soft reseting, with the added bonus of wm10.
but i kinda came to the conclusion that when the fone itself talks to the network every so often, ( ya know when u get interferance when its next to a radio or ur desktop speakers.) as it did it at those times, maybe u should stick it next to something and see if u get the radio interference, and see if it does this in flight mode......
also maybe think about removing the o2 active if u have that, and as a last resort, if no-one else can halp with a fix, maybe think about upgrading to imate 1.40 rom...
Mine did this for a while. I can't remamber the EXACT setting, but it was activesync trying to sync on a schedule (like every 5 minutes) over WAP.
If its the same problem, a bit of rummaging around the activesync settings should sort it out.
-Mike
Thanks joey jojo. Thanks mike freegan.
Joey, where can I get iMate 1.40 ??? Although, I really don't want to use the iMate rom. Ideally, I'd like to find and fix the problem I'm having with this O2 rom.
Mike, I checked my ActiveSync settings on the device... everything looks ok to me. Under ActiveSync/Tools/Options/PC Synchronization: 'Use this PC' is set to ZEUS (which is my computer name) and the other two boxes are UNchecked for 'Use mobile schedule to sync with this PC' and 'Sync with this PC during manual sync' ...then when I click on the Options button, the 'When cradled' dialogue appears, the checkbox for 'Enable PC sync using this connection:' is CHECKED and the connection to use is set for 'USB' . Then, under the 'Mobile Schedule' tab, everything is set to 'Manually'.
BTW, when I put the device in 'Flight Mode' ...it doesn't mysteriously 'wake-up' by itself.
I agree, it appears to be trying to use GPRS to 'connect' or 'sync' with something... I just can't seem to find what or where the cause is located. Aaaargh!!! Any other ideas guys?? Anyone else?
XDA III IIs IIi Waking UP
I've found that if I leave my bluetooth switched on it does this I'd love to have my bluetooth on all the time but as it does this I have it off unless I'm using my GPS.
Can this be fixed ?
Thanks Carl n Adele,
I tried your suggestion, shutting off BlueTooth, but after doing so, and then pressing the power button, the device STILL wakes-up after about 20-30 seconds. So, that wasn't the problem.
Is there any O2 subscribers that can call O2 Tech Support and ask some questions? I'd even call myself if I could pretend to be someone else. Just a thought, if there was anyone willing to help out.
i will try to get u xda support number, i work at o2 so i might be able to ask someone too... tho i guess they wont know, cos there idiots.... lol
I had this problem too. Found that Activesync was still running in the background and was using "mobile schedule" to sync via GPRS (even when set to manual), check that ActiveSync does not appear in the Running program list...
Thanks joey jojo, I really would appreciate the help!
m4ttyw, you are correct, ActiveSync was running in the background. But I had set everything in ActiveSync to MANUALLY SYNC. Nevertheless, I STOPPED ActiveSync in the Running Programs List, then pressed the Power Button again, and with fingers crossed and holding my breath, I waited to see if the device would 'wake itself up' again... and... sure enough, it did. Same thing as always! DAMN! Nice try though, thanks.
This is really frustrating me. The manual shows NOTHING about that Icon at the top if the screen (see earlier message in this thread) and what it is doing, so I can only think that is is still trying to connect or sync something... AAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!
Hmmmm, I wonder if it might have something to do with the GSM Band setting? It's currently set to Automatic, I am not sure what it SHOULD be set to for Rogers in Canada???
Darn think waking up
checked all my settings and its def the bluetooth causing my problems
Not mine, Carl... I have BlueTooth SHUT OFF and the device still wakes up by itself!!!
NEW Observation: When the device wakes-up, it takes about 5 seconds before the "G" icon changes to the 'sync' icon with the 'x' (see pics earlier in this message thread) but, I've noticed that signal strength drops off to nothing except a few dots "..." as if it were searching for a signal. And then, immediately comes back to normal signal strength.
sol
This is sometimes caused by a conflict between ur current radio stack and the frequency ur network is using.
What i mean is, the 'G' icons only represents the availability of gprs in ur current coverage area.By default, ur phone syncs with ur provider every x interval
in seconds, by which the state of gprs availability is changed (Hence, its icon) in ur case, ur pda wakes up whenever ur pda syncs with ur network. A temporary solution would be to choose a network configuration (under settings - connections) which doesnt have a gprs connection. This might, or might not cure it. The best thing to do in my opinion is to change ur current Rom ( or atleast ur radio Rom) that would definately cure the problem.
Try both solutions and post.
Sorry for my worse english.
I met this problem for several times, and it seem to cause by active sync inside the PPC.
I have to connect it to PC and have a Sync Operation, then solve it .
My Device :
Simpified Chinese Dopod 696
The Version Number is fogotten Because I had upgraded it .
Thanks gz_lgz,
I think you are CORRECT!!!! I started to think about what you said in your message, and decided to INSTALL the NEW VERSION of ActveSync 4 on my desktop pc.
After installing ActiveSync 4, I did a sync, removed device from cradle, pressed the power button on the device and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited... AND it did NOT WAKE ITSELF UP!!!
It seems there was something happening with the ActiveSync installed on the device that was not working properly and therefore kept trying to sync itself again & again, but since installing the new version of ActiveSync, it corrected the problem.
NOTE: I suppose that uninstalling and reinstalling the OLD version of ActiveSync may have done the same thing... but I never tried to do that.
Nevertheless, I am very happy that it is working properly now!!!
Thanks EVERYONE for your time and patience and WILLINGNESS to help!
Gentlemen,
After upgrading to the latest Dangaard ROM I've got a problem that seems to have the same root cause although the symptoms are slightly different.
If Bluetooth is switched on and my hands-free Logitech is paired with the Blueangel, it wakes up every minute. Once the hands-free is switched off, the device sleeps normally. Another lame thing is if the phone call is long enough for the device to go to the sleep mode (longer then 1 minute in my case), the Bluetooth connection is dropped and the sound is transferred to internal speaker.
There is no need to mention that Activesync is stopped. I'm quite sure that all these problems have something to do with the power management of the device. That's why I'd like to ask if somebody uses any additional software for the power management and if you've got any recommendation on the subject.
Hope it could help us to get rid of the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. My device details are mentioned in the signature.
PS. Thanks to all the contributors to this wonderful forum. I must admit that the idea of BlueAngel was as great as the implementation sucks...
Update: Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21235
I think this workaround is good enough.
just a thought, but open active sync on your xda, and make sure that on the PC tab, the box marked 'use mobile schedule to sync with this pc' is not ticked and the other marked 'sync with this pc durin manual sync' IS ticked
also on mobile schedule tab, all selections are set to manually, and the box marked 'sync outgoing items as they are sent' is not ticked.
dunno if that will help, but its a thought anyway!!!

ah, i didnt read that before my last post, ok, glad to hear you sorted your problem out tho!!!

i get the same problem with mine - ever since i turned my active sync onto manual it started with the problem so i turned it back to automatic.. just seeing if that fixed the problem i've been having..
also Downloading the lastet Active sync 3.8 and see if that helps..
I've figured out that its Sprite Backup Software v3.0 thats causing my XDAIIs switch on all the time. Disabling the Scheduled Backup seems to resolve the problem.
However, I've upgraded to SBSv3.14 which works even without turning off Scheduled backup.
Hope this helps

I know excatlh the problem you mean as mine has done that for a long time. however, since I flashed Helmi's Wm6 rom mine hasn't done it again. it maybe the fix you need then again it may not depending on your device.
Mine is originally and Orange M2000 and prior to trying Orange's last official rom and t-mobile's latest rom as well it was still doing exactly as you described. make sure your moel is listed in helmi's description of compatable devices. and remember to do pim backup and backup you Storage arear before flashing as it combines internal storage to main memory in the wm6 rom
hope that helps
I just got my BA a few days ago. Did the WM6 upgrade today, and the wlan was doing this.
I noticed that it was happening after I'd sync'd it and the wifi connection was disabled by ActiveSync. I went into the Connection Settings on ActiveSync on my computer (ver. 4.5) and checked the "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
So far, this has worked. I've been able to sync my BA, disconnect, and reconnect to my wireless connection without having to do a reset first.

This appears to be a bug in the ROM. Activesync on the phone doesn't always realize that the connection is gone and gets 'stuck' in a loop trying to sync to a now-missing computer. Closing activesync on the phone will also clear it and allow the wifi to work after syncing.
i flashed it with wm6 but the wifi probelm still exists,,,only the lamp flashes but no tower is showing,,,,,,,,,,and i tried the wlan manager,,,and the com manager nothing helped
I have exactly the same problem, i think its an hardware error.
the problem started half a year ago with wm2003, yesterday i flashed wm6 but the bug still exists
after multiple switch on-and-off sometimes the wireless works, sometimes it takes just a while 5-10 minutes.
if theres somewhere a solution, please let me know
after a soft reset open CommManager, Setup, Wireless LAN an Select "TURN ON WLAN".
This dont conect.
But, after you do that, you can use te On/Off button of Wifi on te CommMannager with any problem...
You need to do this, only one time after a Soft Reset.
Can this be done via a script, reg key or even a Visual Basic App that opens the Comm Manager and the Wireless Manager and selects these in sequence? I have a profile switching software (PhoneAlarm) and it works a treat all for the activatation of WLAN. Sometimes it works fine, others, it doesn't.
As I am running WM6 and it's lovely undocumented feature (bug) of the time and password both being in volitile memory, each time I take my battery out, I have to rebuild the 'ken device as I cannot unlock the screen. I have resorted to using SPB backup nightly and a reboot after backup (as the device seems to work better with a daily reset (hey, it ain't stable yet - we are still waiting Billy)). This is where the Wireless issue comes into play.
Do I settle for Profile switching with wireless powering on correctly or do I backup my device and ensure that I am not re-imaging the stupid thing every day when I take out the battery! Mobile device - bulldust! Not very mobile when you have to keep it plugged in to ensure the battery doen't run out! My Laptop is more mobile!

GPRS broken in WM6? - Can somebody test?

I have an interesting situation with my Orbit. This never occurred with WM5, but only since WM6.
Description:
After a fresh boot, the device works perfect, and connects to GPRS when needed, and I am able to direct push my email all day long. Now, if I go into Comm Manager, and stop the phone radio, and then start it again, I am no longer able to connect to GPRS, and neither are any other applications. ActiveSync and DP don't work anymore, neither does IE.
The only solution to the above is to soft reset the device again, and things go back to normal.
Troubleshooting:
I've tried the regkey to keep GPRS always on. I've also tried to disable any today plugins that could be causing this issue. I've even tried a hard reset, but the same behaviour occurs. Oddly enough, this problem also occurs on a WM6 based Hermes device, and never did before when using WM5.
Something weird is going on with GPRS and WM6 in general. Sometimes, I will be on the train without reception, and when my phone gets signal again, GPRS will say it is connected, but it is not. I have to soft reset.
Needless to say this is annoying. Can somebody confirm that this issue exists with the base O2 WM6 rom? What about some of the other ROMs here that you guys/girls have? Does the same behaviour occur? My ROM and radio are just the defaults, no upgrades, etc.
N.
Hi There,
I am well aware of the problem, I currently work in a telecoms company and the main device we ship out is the XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Currently we are downgrading all devices so as to ignore the problem, but a permanent solution is being worked upon.
The HTC Touch's radio is identical to that of the Artemis, this problem does NOT exist on the Touch (Thanks for testing Pof!) So I atleast have ground to work upon, it is not related to the radio itself but the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) driver.
I'll let you all know if (or rather WHEN) I find a solution.
i've had loads of trouble with this issue and here are my findings:
the dopod sea 3.7 rom and and anything else based on it are the worst affected.
the o2 wm6 rom isn't too bad
tom and meschle's roms are both pretty much fine
I do a 20 minute tube journey every day so i have tested this quite well!
cheers
alex
I'm having the same issue in the Artemis Touch 2.1 Rom.
I found that when I disabled the Phone option, the Flightmode-option would enable. Now, when I want to enable the phone, I tab the Flightmode option to disable Flightmode. It then enables the phone automatically and successfully opens the GPRS connection.
Just done this a couple of times but for now this seems to be a workaround.

The times I have had the issue with the O2 rom and the v.occasional times I have it with Tom/Meschle roms restarting the radio via flight mode always fixes it. With the Dopod and other 3.7 roms the whole radio seems to crash and you can't even get it into flight mode so soft reset is the only option.
This has been tested on all versions of the Artemis radio that are available.
same problem here on prophet. can connect. if i go ffline due to no signal, i cannot connect. after i switch to flightmode and activate phone again gpry works again. any patch?!.

wifi problem!

Hy, i have p3300 and i've installed last night artemis 3.01 and is very very nice, first of all because is very faster. but, the only problem that i've meeted is that my wifi doesn't work. when i want to turn it on, nothing happend.
and now even better, i can't find anymore something about wifi in my phone. what happened?
Same problem here
pnyg
hmm, after some research, i've concluded that my wifi is stopped as hardware from T-mobile. I can't figure out what was in their hads, but i'm asking you if i can do something else. thankx
Dude,
are you sure you're not installing a UK WM6 rom? Cuz I reckon they disable wifi in their HTC's out there, so that's why you can't find it anymore in the software
i've installed artemis touch 3.01 with and without touchflo, and black & blue 4.3. I found the button for wifi, start/settings/system/advanced settings and there it is (after i've checked display wifi icon, does appear in comm manager), but, when i press it to activate the wifi, is thinking but still remaining on off option.
T-Mobile UK (and some other countries) MDA Compact IIIs have not got the physical hardware for WiFi. This is because they want you to use the GPRS on their Web'n'Walk plans. If you use a ROM with Wifi, you will get a button, but the button wont do anything.

HTC pro2 GPS , help!

Hi guys
I got my first WM phone HTC pro2 recently from Vodafone UK. Everything is good except GPS. I read this forum carefully. I did hard reset, soft reset, set different port and baud, download QuickGPS, I also try some tweaks, buy GPS still not working. when I open Google Maps, clicked the use GPS, after “seeking satellite…” near ten minutes and Google Maps told me I have GPS problem. HTC GPS tool show me GPS signal was 0 and only a red spot on the top of circle. Other GPS programs such as “GPS test” and BeeLineGPS had same result like HTC GPS tool. Open Garmin, always said “searching satellite …” and Tomtom told me “Poor GPS receptions—are you inside the building?”
My questions are, based your guys experience what happened? It is hardware problem or the setting’s problem? When you guys talking about the GPS cannot get fix, do you have GPS signal on the GPS program (like signal strength, some red and green spots on the circle etc)? If I flash hard-SPL and other Radio Rom can resolve my problem? Are there other solutions? Warranty.
I used destinator 7 on a small trip, and was able to work.
However, looking at the settings screen where the signal for each satellite was displayed, I cannot say I am impressed. The signal strength was extremely low...
Can you install destinator and try also yourself?
Apologies if this is very basic, but I assume you are outside with a clear view of the sky when trying it out?

Open Garmin, always said “searching satellite …” and Tomtom told me “Poor GPS receptions—are you inside the building?”

yes , i am in open field, far away from building, several times, more than 40 minutes. thanks I will try it. but I am wondering why signal strength is 0. low strength, hard to fix and no signal strength is totally diferent issue, i guess.
I am proposing the destinator, because it has a function that detects the port & some settings of the gps...
I am on Sprint in the US, but this worked for me. I am not sure if you did this.
If you have TouchFlo enabled go to the Settings Tab, then go to All Settings.
In the all settings, click the Personal then click Phone. In there click GSM/UMTS services (I am assuming you have a GSM phone, I don't know). Select Location Setting and then Get settings. Make sure it is turned on.
Then this part you said you did, but I will tell you my settings anyway. Go back to the all settings. Now go to system and then external gps. Then go to programs and select COM port 9. Under hardware it should be None and the baud rate is 4800. Then under access check the box to have manage gps enabled.
Now, when you use google maps, go to the settings in google maps and click gps settings. Change the option from let windows mobile manage my gps to manual and pick com 9 and 4800.
Then enable the gps and get a clear view of the sky and see if it works. It might take about 20 seconds for it to get some satellites the first time.
Did you notice there is a firmware update to enahnce gps fixes? Might be worth giving it a try
Thanks all.
there is not locaiton at setting, personal, phone , services.
this phone is vodafone branded, i think I need hard-SPL first to flash firmware.

Hi,
I have been experiencing the same problem. Have read many posts. It normally happens when phone your phone displays H or 3G. For some reason the triangulation and the Gps stops working.
Try it when you have E or G showing on the phone it will work like a charm.
This is my second TP2 first one never had a problem and was vodafone branded as well. Will try and find a solution and will let you know. I have tried different radios though!
Hi
I had the same issue with my T mobile branded TP2. Sometimes (after houres) I had a fix and then it dropped again. I discovered that when you switch WIFI off, it all works like charm. WIFI somehow jams the GPS receiver.
Same Issue
I have the Sprint Touch Pro2 and have tried every patch available, several registry edits, different settings and quick GPS settings to get my GPS running properly. Just before my 30 day return/refund period had almost lapsed I decided to exchange my device. Sprint tried to talk me into some drawn out process of dealing with advanced tech support and starting a ticket on the issue which would have gone way beyond my 30 day period to exchange the phone. To make a short story long, exchanging the phone couldn't have been more convenient and upon setting up Quick GPS and trying out the installed Live Search application, my phone found 9 satelites within seconds. I guess it was the device. Just a cautionary tale that if you think you've tried everything to get your GPS working, there's no harm in getting another Touch Pro2.
