My XDA IIs v1.4 ROM and V1.13 Radio occasionally soft resets itself when I hit the power button to bring it out of stand by. Currenlty I am running Phot0 Contacts Pro v3.01, Phone Alarm and Phone Dashboard. I have done a hard reset and ran without 3rd party software but it will still reset occasionally.
Anyone else experience this issue or have any ideas?
Thank you
Recently I am experience and incredible fact.
The green button to start a call NOW works as CALENDAR shortcut button (yes like the top right button)
The red button to END a call NOW works as CONTACT shortcut button (yes like the top LEFT button)
The 2 Contact and Calendar button (top left and right) DO work correctly.
I supposed some recently installed applications made this mess. Therefore I tried
- soft reset: no way
- hard reset: no way
- I PUT MDA 3 in BootLoader mode and I REINSTALLED MY rom 1.42 WWE
Now what happened is that for 2 days OK, the GREEN and RED button DID work correctly to start and end CALLS.
After 2 days, the strange phenomena appeared again!
Please note that I HAVE NOT INSTALLED ANY ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE!
I am very puzzled.
Please help

Maybe a virus?
Any suggestions for this problem?
I am getting crazy at this behavour...did i get a virus?
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
I got it to the second time yesterday, but it just went away.
The first time it happened I did a hard reset 2 times and that didn't fix it.
The battery had to die completely
Is it a known issue ofr ROM 1.42?
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
did you try to REFLASHING ????
I was actually going to downgrade because the problem never happened in 2003, but my battery was dead when the battery was charged enough to start the buttons worked correctly.....
The second time it happened it just went away after a few hours (I was driving so I couldn't mess with it) when I got home it was back to normal.

Have you recently installed any software, let me know maybe it is related to some software??
Do you know how to UNLOCK the ExtROM and then install 1.42 o
Yes I have installed Windows 2005. Then since very unstable, I downgraded to Win2003, 1.42 (not the original 1.31
Now, in addiiton to his strange fact, (flipping buttons) I experience the flickering of screen, several times a week. A soft reset usually solves this new problem. But then it may reappear.
I installed the following softwares: CE Chinese Input
I thought it was the culprit, therefore i made a HARD RESET.
Then I tried other sfw, also trial Chinese Inputs.
But again this problem reappeared
Now I made a clean HARD RESET and NO sfw.
The problem reappeared.
Conclusion:
I guess something wrong in External ROM.
In fact in Device Information:
ROM version 1.4200 WWE
Radio 1.13.00
ExtRom: NONE
Do you know how to UNLOCK the ExtROM and then install 1.42 on it?
Thanks
Saulo
i have the same problem today. it has happened before. i think it is a glitch in the rom. i have hard reset and it went away before. this time no. i have hard reset and restore my backup and same thing. the culprit could be a bad wisbar install. that is what i think i did wrong, i installed wise bar and did not reset (forgot). then this morning woke up to the send button going to calendar. any suggestions. thanks.

I get a similar thing but my green button opens TomTom navigator
I also upgraded to WM5 and then back down again to the 2003 1.42
Ok has that anyone had this issue with their Orbit?
I had noticed that the keyboard was not giving me any predicted text choices while typing, so I tried to change the input method to no avail. So I decided to perform a sft reset to sort the problem.
Oh was I not happy with the result as for over 5 mins all that was happening with my phone was the screen would light up o2 screen, green screen then enter pin and reset and it would do this again and again.
So even after removing the battery for a few minutes not change once I attempted to start the phone. I even reset the device via the button on the side and it made no difference.
I was just getting ready to bite the bullet and sound off the o2 when I remembered reading on here of something similar happening so I searched and found a posting saying to try and press soft reset just after phone started. And guess what it worked after that so what I want to know is why or what I did to get my phone working again?
Any ideas guys, only thing I can add was the phone was plugged in to my workstation USB so was charging when the initial soft reset was performed while using Valksoft's space reclaimer reset option.
Thanks
JC
Ok an update the phone is now doing this everytime it is turned off. And since the last time it occurred I have been unable to get the phone to work.
Any ideas, I believe it could be a registry issue with the phone as I had recently installed a couple of programs that worked fine for a couple of days then while installing a dictionary several programs were uninstalled in error.
So after installing again this problem has arisen. It is possible that this was not th cause as I hae noticed tat the last scheduled back up was on the 22/01/07 so Monday's was not carried out possibly due to this?
my orbit has also this bug. after a soft reset he is booting up till the pin entry and then a boots again and again. Up to 5 times
Yes, my Orbit sometimes needs to reboot 4 times before it will sucessfully bring up the Home Screen. Anyone got any ideas on why???!!!??
I had enough of it doing this so I have done a hard reset and the problem has gone now just need to set everything back as I want it as backup still had the initial issue once it was retored.
I guess it was to do with the registry but not sure what exactly, maybe redundant reg keys etc?
I've experienced same problem on my dutch t-mobile mda compact III.
Happend after installing different programs, but i can't find the exact cause.
when i remove the microsd (on which i installed the programme's) the device starts en doesn't softreset when phone screen shows.
At first i thought it had to do with programs that tried to connect to gprs before even entering the pincode of the phone. But even without pincode it keeps restarting.
Happend on my 1gb microSD once en also on my 2 gb microSD.
Hope that someone knows what the cause is, so i can prevend it from happening.
Resets caused by the Memory Card Fault
Look at the posts regarding the memory card corruption if you back-up the card format it and then put it back everything is fine for a while. Not puttting a My Documents folder on the storage card usually helps with this issue...
rebooting.
hi,
as you well understand there are only 2 possibilities: software and hardware failure.
Surely, you don't want to think about hardware failure, because in this case the solution is to send it back to seller or to service center. Except for the cases caused by battery and sd card. These are 2 elements you can replace on your own easy.
However, "instability" of the device normally caused by installed software.
The first thing you do, like it or not, if you have a problem, hard reset your device.
BACKUP your DATA before hard reset!
You can try to to remove software piece by piece, but could be time consuming thing and not necessarily lead you to a good result.
Radical approach is to return device to "factory state" - hard reset.
If after hard reset you still have a problem with your device like accidentally rebooting, address to service center or ask seller to to replace the good.
regards,
rebooting.
double post.
I had the issue once... card corrupted. Had a back up so formatted the card, put data back in, issue gone.
This has happened to my orbit a couple of times. But I think if I reset by pressing the reset button on the side of the machine it only resets once. Resetting after installing apps for example from the prompt is bad, do it later by pressing the actual button. This seems to work for me but only time will tell.
my htc p3300 has reset problm
my htc p3300 restarts automatically while im calling or using net it starts autuomatically it goes till green screen where it shows wm 6.1 then restarts again n again i dnt know plz tell me is it software or hardware problm
I was doing something in task manager yesterday.
When i was shutting down some programs.
My MDA COMPACT III froze.
The last program i closes was device.exe
Now its hanging,
It goes through he O2 screen, the next screen stays on.
Back light keeps burning.
what am i supposed to do now?
I've had this a few times now. The latest was after I installed Opera and did a soft reset. I left the PDA for over an hour but it never came back responsive. After several soft resets I had to do a Hard Reset. (Hold down both Soft-Keys and Press the reset button in the hole on the side with the stylus). This WILL wipe all your data though.
i already left it on for 5 hours, no changes where made.
i also left it laying on my desk with the battery removed.
no changes
In bootloader it doesn't get connected to my pc, so i can't flash any rom into it

Do a Hard Reset. (Hold down both Soft-Keys and Press the reset button in the hole on the side with the stylus).
when i do a hard reset, it goes into bootloader.
i press the soft-keys on side of the MDA (voice & power) put the stylus in.
it goes direct into bootloader when i pull out my stylus

that is not how a hard reset is done. dont press the buttons on the sides of the device. what you do is starting bootloader.
to do a hard reset do as described here in the wiki.

That's bootloader mode NOT a hard reset.
To perform a hard reset, press and hold two keys on FRONT of phone next to Red and Green call buttons while pressing reset button with stylus. Keep these TWO buttons held until text appears on screen asking you to "Confirm to Format". Press the GREEN call button and then sit back until the phone re-boots.
Then you have the good job of re-installing everything again.................at least the phone will now work though.
i feel freaking dumb right now....
going to feel a shamed sitting in the corner with a donkey hat on.
thanks guys, its up and running!

have the same problem
stucking Artemis
same Problem here with my Orbit. I had to hard-reset two times last week after installing new programms. After It ran fine for about 4 days until yesterday.
Anyway, very fine piece of Rom, even nicer when buggs fixed.
If you guys can post what you have installed, whether you have anything added in traylauncher, and if you overclock with batterystatus, that would be really helpful - It would be good to nail this problem down, as people have been having this kind of issue since v3.7, and I've yet to find anything in common.
As it stands, after I've disabled traylauncher, I've not had to hard reset for nearly a week now.

The first time my Orbit stuck just after installing Battery-Status as first Program after installing the new Rom to my Orbit. (I did not overclock at this time!)
I do not know what was second, but my device stuck after necessary soft-reset just after installing.
I installed B&B 4 again after the second hard-reset and it worked fine with dynamic overclocking from 143 to 247 MHz for 4 - 5 days. I felt as a lucky Guy
Yesterday I had to switched off the phone (not the device). As i wanted to switch on the phone some hours later it stuck. After waiting some Minutes and nothing happened, I did a soft reset and my Orbit hung in B&B-screen. A few soft-resets later I did a hardreset to get it back to work.
For those still having trouble with freezes on soft reset - have any of you still got the 6 tab home plugin?
Gullum posted this in the Dev forum, and that could be whats causing it - I'd gone back to 5 tabs, as it'd always set the phone to vibrate with appointments.
I'd forgotten that I'd done that, and that could well be whats fixing the issue.
Hi i've already had this problem, which is well described in this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323995
Its a bug in this version of B&B 4.0
hopefully Tom will be fixing it
theres no cure for it but to do a hard reset unfortunately

have you done any soft resets since then?
also i dont seem to find any pattern. I have tried various applications as i've mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323995 , i have done with and without tray launcher the problems is still there.
I must have soft reset a dozen times since, installing new keyboards and other such software.
No problems at all.....
Have you tried installing the 5 tab home plugin which is in the main B&B v4.0 thread?

Its not a v4 only issue, i had the same problem with v3.7 and that was without anything else installed, it only happens on soft reset and it appears to happen more oftern than not when there is some form of activity, ie, program closing / loading, media player running.
Just happened for first time on v4 for me yesterday, again, no additional programs installed
Hello, someone can tell me how to do a soft reset to htc desire, there is some key combination or there is some software to do it?.
Thanks
keep the power button pressed for a longer time. a menu will be shown. select power down (phone will now shut down), press power button again. et voila! you have 'rebooted' your phone!
thank you very much but I do not work or do not

Uuhh.. What?
So is it at all possible to have an app that reboots the handset essentially?
There was an app on the market called quick boot I think, never used it myself but you could try that, although it may need root and the desire will probably be too new to work with it, so maybe one to keep an eye on.
Sorry for such a noob question, but the reply above, is that not simply turning the device.off and on again as opposed to rebooting, or carrying out a soft reset? Coming from an iPhone and wm before that, i was led to believe there was a difference. Removing the battery with the device on was a soft reset, rebooting the iPhone was also slightly different from turning it off and on again. ?
I would also like to know if we could do a soft reset without having to take back cover off and remove battery?
Thanks
I have to take back cover of my Desire to reset it. Turning off doesn't work in my case. Simply - last time I was waiting 15 minutes and it still displaying 'shutting down'. I can't shutdown my phone.

I think you didn't catch what we are talkin about. Soft reset doesn't meen we would like to erase all data and revert back to factory settings.
My phone is not able to shut down even after one hour after pressing: power botton for a moment -> power off. Any clues?

Strange indeed soft reset works here fine but used it only a few times
Maybe a hard reset forces to reinstall the o/s correct and solves you're problem because it should work via the power button...
Do you get the pop-up menu with the different choices?

what the hell are you people talking about?
a soft reset is a way to restart the phone using an option in the phone, perhaps an app
so when there's the option to POWER OFF the phone, there is the option to RESTART the phone

I got the popup menu when I press power button for a while but when I press first option to shut down the phone - it does not shut down. Shuting down message displays for ages and nothing happens.

Sorry, I think I got it wrong. D-fens - what you have done is fine, taking out the battery, judging by htc website
htc.com/europe/howto.aspx?id=721&type=1&p_id=312
but I don't know why wouldn't it shut down with power button, it works fine with my.
I think I know what your trying to get at, the problem is in your phone, unmount your SD card, I suspect its faulty. This will I suspect work. Try it and tell us how you get on. I'm assuming switching the phone off and on again is the same as rebooting or soft reset on Android.
Lol mega fail answers. I think currently there is no way to soft reset your phone without going the long way of turning it off and turning it on again. Quite annoying I know, but you should not have to soft reset your phone much at all, if you do then there is a prob with software etc. I have only soft reset my phone maybe 2-3 times in the few weeks I have had it for.
But again I believe the question is:
Is there an app or some special way to soft reset the desire, without removing battery or without pressing and holding power button and selecting turn off, as both these methods simply turn the device off and are not actually resetting the device...
Use quickboot or root boot. I personally use root boot. Works fine.
