Bluetooth Scanning Period - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi Guys,
Is there any way to extend the scanning time on Bluetooth? Seems to be about 10 seconds. I'd really like at least 20 or so.
Thanks,
Steve

hmmm good question!
Another case: BT seems to stop scanning after approx. 5 min. Is this correct?

Install this. This sets a new registry key and extends the search time to 25 seconds. It comes from the 2.03 Harrier Extended Rom upgrade.
Or add the registry key manually:
HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General
Key=Dword, InquiryDuration=25
Hope this helps.

Hi Paul, Many thanks for that. Works a treat. It scans for 30 secs on my machine which is fine - Cheers

Works fine on my Machine
I made the Dword manually in my registry and it seems to be working.
HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\InquiryDuration=25
Thanx for the free Info

Thanks, I'll take note of that

I have no widcomm installed on my MDA-II. Anyone has an idea how to change the timeout in the registry?

A2DP BLUEtooth Wireless STEREO with ONE click ? PROBLEM RESOLVED !

This is my firts post, here in this forum . So, sorry for any mistakes ( my english is not very good but i'll do try to be clearly understood).
PROBLEM RESOLVED ! Temporarily I hope.
This thread shuoldn't be read by owners of headsets which can spontaniously connect your's PPCs (you lucky bastards)
For a few weeks i've been trying to solve a problem ... let's call it "Set as Wireless Stereo". I've been so happy to get a brand new Stereo headset, but "Set as Wireless Stereo" problem broke almost everything . At least 6 tapping were necessary to set a wireless Stereo with the haedset. While driving a car - true challange. There is my, I hope, temporarily SOLUTION:
1. First you have to download and install a MORTSCRIPT
http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=download&action=view&entry=65
2. Then install the script
Here is the script (code)
Run "Windows\CommManager.exe"
Sleep 1000
MouseDown (235, 315)
Sleep 250
MouseUp (235, 315)
Sleep 250
SendCR
Sleep 2000
MouseDown ( 60, 280)
Sleep 250
MouseUp ( 60, 280)
Sleep 250
SendContext
Sleep 100
SendUp
Sleep 100
SendCR
Sleep 2000
Kill "CommManager.exe"
Click to collapse
3. Below you can download the wholescript (code). After downloading change the extention of the file from .TXT to .MSCR
4. Paste the Script to any place on PPC, for ex. My Documents
5 Run it by tapping or assign it to any button or to voice command.
It's good idea to copy the shortcut (for ex. with Resco explorer) to Windows/Menu Start/Program
6. I know that there should be another way to solve this problem of STERO wireless, probably via changing the Registry, but I'can't wait

to say the truth, i was thinking about upgrading the ROM. However sometimes it's not that easy. I'm owner of the Charmer and the latest ROMs brings the same problem. So i'm problematic as for BT STERO as well as upgrading the ROM, but it's developing thing to solve the problems
Why dont you upgrade with the official one's?, maybe less pbs than the rom that was cook/?
Nokia BH-601 with DarkForce WM6 (Universal)
Hello.
I've spent two days forcing Nokia BH-601 stereo Bluetooth to work flawlessly with DarkForce WM6 (JasJar, MS BT Stack). The problem was that after first connection the headset was always automatically switched to "Wireless Stereo", while Voice Dialing worked only when the headset was in "Hands-Free" mode (A2DP & AVRCP work always). I even installed Helmi's Broadcom Stack, but switched back to MS's because of numerous problems.
So, after lot of searching and lot of programs tested, I finally found this great solution with MortScript. However, the script displayed here is bad because it works only in portrait mode. Here's updated script:
Code:
Run "Windows\CommManager.exe"
Sleep 1500
SendRightSoft
Sleep 250
SendDown
Sleep 250
SendCR
Sleep 2500
[U] SendDown[/U]
[U] Sleep 250[/U]
[U] SendDown[/U]
[U] Sleep 250[/U]
SendContext
Sleep 100
SendUp
Sleep 100
SendUp
Sleep 100
SendCR
Sleep 500
SendOK
Sleep 2500
SendLeftSoft
This script works with Universal regardless of screen orientation & sets BT to Hands-Free mode. Notice four underlined strings: if you have only one BT headset (I have two) - remove unnecessary lines. Anyway, the idea is to scroll the list of BT devices until Nokia BH-601 is selected, so add\remove commands according to your personal case.
Besides, the sound of Nokia BH-601 was catastrofic with MS BT stack, until I have changed the "Priority256" value to 250.
WBR, Draco.
WOrks Great, but with that last info..
Thanks.

Can GPS get a silent fix?

When I get in the car and turn on bluetooth, a script starts to run in conjuction with my car stereo for handsfree and audio etc.
I would like to add a command to the script that switches on GPS straight away and gets a fix in the background so that if I get lost or stuck in traffic I can run TomTom and the fix will have already been established thus enabling me to navigate to where I need to be more efficiently?
Is there such a way of doing this?
the simplest idea I have is to run a 3rd party app such as gpsgate when your script runs.
debully,
I did think about using a 3rd party app but wondered if the trinity is capable of getting a fix just by enabling GPS and not running any other app?
The problem is that using A2DP is quite CPU greedy. Running another app will just add to it. Incidently, I've read posts where people are quoting percentages of CPU used by certain programs, how is this done?
interested as well
Let me know if you get a way to do this... I would be interested as well.

If you'd like to have a GPS fix all the time (even when you push the power button for 'stand by') you will have to modify the radio rom..
But for in-windows usage you could install a program with a virtual COM port that redirects the GPS data.. (so, when your batch file is ran this program will open and connect to the GPS port.. it wil create another COM port and when tomtom connects it will have a fix instantly)
I use gpsgate, not only does it give me a fix all the time when I set it to run on softreset, it can send your position to googlemaps so people can track you if you want and other nifty stuff.

I downloaded a little app called ODGPS (900KB cab file and free) It took a while playing around with the settings to get a fix but once the fix was there I opened TomTom and it knew where I was almost instantly.
I stumbled across a website yesterday with links to other sites of free gps software. http://www.maps-gps-info.com/fgpfw.html (where I found ODGPS)
My plan is to test a number of programs from here to establish a) how much memory they use and b) how quick they get a fix.
Once I have found a small enough app with a fairly quick fix I shall implement it into my script. Now if someone could just tell me how I monitor the CPU usuage of each app?

you can use "BatteryStatus", very small today-plugin that shows you the energiedrain... more cpu = more energiedrain
I'm getting closer to having this working:-
ODGPS is not ideal because it seems to freeze the phone after a while. It also makes a funny tapping noise every 2 or 3 minutes and for some reason and I can't disable it.
I'm now experimenting with NoniGPSPlot, a very small program that runs easily in the background. You can save a track of your journey too and view it on google earth.
Once it's established a fix, TomTom will fix almost instantly.
I've integrated it into my script so that it opens and minimizes as soon as I switch to 'car' profile. My phone then detects my stereo and connects to it for handsfree profile, then for wireless stereo.
What would be cool is if I can get it to display a message telling me that a fix has been established and likewise when the fix is lost. The trouble is I can't find what registry change takes place once it has a fix.

Which stereo do you have? The script I have written is specifically for the Pioneer DEH P75BT
I've just used ssnap to create 2 snapshots of my registry, the 1st with a gps fix, and the 2nd without. When comparing the files using ExamDiff there is no obvious change that takes place.
Does anybody know of a GPS program that creates or changes registry entries once a fix is established?

slightly off topic - apologies -
how do you find the DEHP75BT at registering and automatically recognising your phone?
I have a DEHP55BT (think it was the first BT radio available for under £200) and had loads of trouble with registration (had to use 'connect
wait') and unless I manually switch on BT on phone (mUn's WM6 SE) or manually tell the pioneer to connect nothing happens.
Also, when callers call me I cannot hear their voices through the speakers, but it's ok when I call them - do you have this problem?

GPSGate changes the colour of its icon that resides in the system tray (red -no gps data, yellow - gps data but no fix, Green - Fixed). Not sure if this is controlled by a registry setting but may be worth a look. GPSGate also lets you use more than one GPS app at once and allows you to delegate COM ports for output.
@ debully>
There is a very simple fix to enable the Pioneer to recognise and connect to your phone. You see the Pioneer is searching for a phone or a Smartphone, the Trinity identifies itself as a PPC and so the Pioneer ignores it.
The Class of Device or CoD must be changed so that the Trinity identifies itself as either a phone or Smartphone.
If you change the Dword Data value in.... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\SYS\COD"
to 5374476 (decimal) and set bluetooth to discoverable in your Trin, you should find that it connects automatically.
It took me 8 months to find this out.
PS. I don't have the problem with not hearing the callers.
@neomagic
wow - thanks dude. Your a star!
To understand what you are dealing with in getting a "fix" you need to understand how the system works. When started for the first time in 2 hours (or whatever it's been programmed for) the gps does a cold start and needs to download almanac data from the sat's in order to determine their trajectories which is needed to calculate a fix. Once that data has been pulled, it's valid for a certain amount of time (about 2 hours if I'm remembering correctly). So, although no registry keys are going to change, the easy way to deal with this is to keep your own timestamp, and make sure to ping the gps with a fix request every 2 hours or so in order to keep it ready for a warm/quick start...
@ Shadowmite>
Thanks for the info, I've read similar information about cold/warm starts. A couple of questions though...
1) I can deal with the timestamp but how do I "ping" the gps with a fix request?
2) If I do ping a request every 2 hours and I'm indoors and can't get a fix, will it go back to needing a cold start?

today plugin bluetooth toggler

Hi,
I am look ing for a SIMPLE today plugin to fast switch on/off BT. I have tried a dozen but none of them seem to work. Strange. I used to have a HTC Universal (WM 6.1.) and there the BatteryStatus (name of the program) worked like a charm (even the last version homescreen_plusplus doesn't work on the rhodium) I tried exe versions (like BtOnOff.exe)and cabs (like BlueTogglerSetup). So I am starting to think I am missing sth. Anybody a suggestion?
Oh yeah, the indicators do switch on of these plugins (when i switch on BT trough settings-connections) so they detect the state of BT but are not able to switching on them selfs?
Help welcome!
thx in advance

(damn, i am missing my solid universal!)
Read the very first post in this forum! The very first paragraph. The search function works well ;-)
Pro2 use a different bluetooth stack than all previous models. Currently I have not seen other BT toggles that is working, but I expect they will come later.
I have CommManager assigned to the send button, so it is no big issue for me.
The biggest issue is, that the BT headset controls are hardcoded to WMP/HTCPlayer, so I can not use my favorite mediaplayer.
thx
thx, yeah I searched and read about the BT problems.
I just wanted to check in to see if there was sth new going on this front.
I hope you didn't mind too much.
In the mean time I assigned comm manager to a soft key in combination with 2 today screens it is feasable, but definitely not sth I want as a final result.

One Half of A Bluetooth Toggle

Like most here, I have used a Bluetooth Toggling program (in my case BlueTooth Switch) for years to make connecting painless.
And like most here, I was flummoxed and PO'd to find that it doesn't work on my Tilt 2, and in fact, nothing works, since HTC decided to use a different BT stack.
Why they do these things and don't think one step down the road to the Customer Experience I can't figure, but they screwed the Pooch bigtime on this one!
Well, I've found half of a solution - and a key that I expect will allow an expert here to give us an app to fix it all!
Buried in the WINDOWS folder is a file called "TurnBTOff".
It does Exactly what it says, so if you create shortcut to it in your WINDOWS/STARTMENU/PROGRAMS file you can turn it into a program launchable from the programs TAB.
Of course, you still have to turn BT on manually, but...
surely someone here can take the code apart, see how it's turning BT off and modify it to make it toggle the radio instead of just turning it off.
It would end up on virtually every Raph out there in no time!
Fame and Glory await!
Pretty please with sugar on top!
(or a beer if you prefer)
Thanks!
MadSci
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Bluetooth and carkit works really slowly

Hello!
I have one question regarding BT when connected to my carkit. Here is the situation.
I owe a Citroen C5 III with factory supplied carkit. I had an HTC touch HD, which was working excellent. Then I have swiched to HTC TP2 and here is where the problems started. The TP2 connects to my carkit with no problems, but when I make a call the phone starts to work really slowly. It take about 30seconds to hang up the call I just had. If I want to make another call the phone still works very slowly, making the call takes about 1 minute. Phone strats to work fast again as soon as I disconnect the phone from carkit.
I have tried to change the roms (a lot of them with and without manila), I have taken my car to dealershop to updtae the BT on my carkit.
I there any solution for this problem?
Is there any way I can update or. downgrade the bluetooth drivers on TP2 so there would be the old interface just like the HD had?
Thanks a lot for all your help!

On page two there is a list of the registry edits to apply to fix issues between the Widcomm bluetooth stack and bluetooth car kits.
Dwboston, thanks for your reply. It helped a lot. I did the changes as described on second page on the link you have provided. I did not find the last entry I was supposed to change.
I went on a short test drive and looks like the carkit is now working perfectly. Tomorow I will go on a trip for two days. after that I will tell if the tweak worked.
Again, thanks a lot for the help. You have no idea how you made my day.

I didn't have the last entry either on my Tilt 2. So far the phone is working fine with the bluetooth system in my Acura. Hopefully it keeps working.
I did some testing. Although it works fast, the address book is now not synching with the carkit. Any idea about that?

Sorry - not sure about that one. My bluetooth system doesn't support phonebook synching.
I figured it out. When I have changed the Change SupportedFeatures to 45, I have changed decimal value. Now I have set hex value to 45 it has started to work. dwboston thanks a lot for all you help. If you ever come to Slovenia, I will buy you a cup coffe.)
