FOSA: How did you run the test? Did you put it on your own webpage (hosted on a PC on your wireless network)? If not, you will only be testing the speed of your ADSL link and not the speed between your Exec and your router.

Melty, thats what I thought too, but bandwidthplace seemingly allows you to specify your connection type...
Anyway, a test from my laptop, via lan connection to a 4MB internet connection yielded a return of 1.2mbps - from my M5000, via our wireless network (which admittedly is only 11b), the throughput was 605 kbps. I think the only valid test is to move a file via your wireless network to another machine on your lan - I guess there must be an app to measure this type of network activity?

well, after the change im still connecting to AP's around town, but i cant tell if at b or g, im assuming b, as ive never seen documentation that the universal does g, the wizard has g as me missus got one 2 days ago, so i assume this reg change was to enable g.

My router is a a/b/g DLINK router.

I just tested it from my laptop again, specifying ethernet as the connection type, and got a result of 583 kilobits per second! So, wildly varying results, which I don't really think can be classed as a definitive test.

It works on my notebook but can't on my PPC PIE. PIE will pop-up an error message saying the page exceeds more than 10 frames

Don't think this is gonna work. The hardware on the universal is differant than the vario.
The HTC service manual says:
WiFi 802.11b (manufacture option)
? IEEE 802.11b compliant
but the way you can test it is:
set your wlan router to G only (default value is Mixed mode). this way your phone will only connect if it is really G compatible. if it will connect than it works.
testing it with a internet speedtest doesn't say anything about speeds between router and phone.

well said! i'm glad it's not just me who thinks WAN speed tests are not going to confirm whether it is working in 'g' mode ... and even if it is working in 'g' mode, the 802.11g standard allows for the rate to be adapted depending on signal strength, so you could be running at 12Mbps (or lower!), rather than the full 54Mbps.
has anyone timed a large SMB file copy from a local LAN PC server to the SD card with 'b' and then with 'g'???
Ok i am being a bit thick here, i found a 10MB file on my laptop then on Exec i used resco file manager and maped the drive, and over standard 11b i copy and pasted the file into my storage ( not storange card incase that slowed it down) it did the 10MB file in 48 seconds The laptop was ""docked"" and on a 100mbs wired conection.
I then set about to do the registery changes to enable 11g but my device )using resco reg edit) is a little different, am i trying to edit some keys or add new ones.
one i get that bit sorted i will delete the downloded file and fix my router on ""g"" only and transfer again

I'm 99% sure this hack doesnt enable 'G', it just allows connections to be made to 'G only' access points, although still at the lower 'B' speeds. However this doesnt seem to work on the uni

Also.. Whats the highest xfer you get over wifi (SMB).. One large(ish) file.. I can only get about 530KB (kilobytes, not bits)... Signal strength is excellent. Laptop is connected via dual-band wireless-n. The average 802.11g client gets about 3.0MBps on my network. The wifi signal strength on my phone doesn't seem to impact the transfer speed (greatly).. meaning.. there is no flux between 5 bars and 3 bars. Doesn't that indicate an internal bottleneck? What bus does this wifi card 'ride'? PCI or usb?

530KB (kilobytes, not bits) equal 4240Kb (kilobits) which is close to 4Mbps.
Once you figure out your bits/bytes come back and edit your post.
If you're getting 3mbit on 802.11g then something is wrong with your wireless, period. For a duplex connection (ie: one radio does send/receive) you'll get about 24mbit max. I get 22-23mibt typically on my wireless laptop to my access point here at the house. I haven't bothered to test the Tilt 2's wifi however.
I don't think I mixed anything up.
G notebook clients get about 3MBps or 24Mbps on my network.. N client to gigabit wired server (router is 610N, gigabit eth ports) gets 11MBps (I think)..
My touch pro2 comes around and gets 4 megabits or ~.5 megabytes/sec.. How does that happen? Probably for the same reason my zune 8gb (flash) gets those speeds. So what is that reason?
Wheres the bottleneck? Wifi antenna? Comm bus between wifi chip and phone storage? What do our wireless cards look like anyways? Perhaps there is one antenna. That wouldn't surprise me..
Regarding the SD isssue: I selected to mount the phone as a usb device instead of active sync.. I got about 3 MBps write. I think I need to get a Class 6 card.
Enabling wifi to stay on during standby and then putting it into standby actually sped things up... Anything remotely proc intensive tends to smack the wifi transfer around a bit. Its not really an issue of SD card access. But then again, the SD card access could be impacted by processor usage and in turn slow down the wifi.
There are a handful of settings in the wifi reg key BCMSDDHD1 that start with SD... Why? I need to fire up the dd-wrt router and see if this actually connecting at 54g.
btw: speed up was from ~430KBps to 600KBps.
I also have this problem with slow wifi connection and wonder if there iare any bottleneck.

I was sending a movie to my phone and figured instead of plugging it in I would just pair it with my laptop. So I did and got 14-50kb/s. It had an estimated finish time of 400-800 minutes transferring 1.25g of data. What am I doing wrong or is bluetooth a whole lot suckier than I was lead to believe?

The Galaxy Nexus should be capable of ~24Mbps over Bluetooth, however, that's also dependent on the Bluetooth module in your laptop. Also, Bluetooth is a wireless technology using the 2.4GHz band (like just about everything, including WiFi) meaning that other wireless devices/networks/etc can interfere with data transfer. Even the oldest Bluetooth standard should be able to transfer data at up to 700Kbps. Still, lots of other bottlenecks can get in the way. Keep in mind that the 24Mbps speed is only possible with full Bluetooth 3.0 devices which actually use 802.11 WiFi for data transfer. Bluetooth devices that don't use this standard have a max transfer rate of 2.1Mbps with Bluetooth 2.0 and 2.1. My suggestion is to stick to transferring files over USB.
I wouldn't xfer too large of files over BT. As the poster above said, there's a lot of bottlenecks that slow it down. Just not fast enough.
For example when I Bluetooth internet tether to my MacBook Pro, I can maybe pull 2mbps down/up, whereas when I WiFi tether, I can do the full 8-10mbps down / 3-4mbps up.

if your laptop and phone is on the same wifi, you can use wifi file transfer, airdroid or similar apps to transfer files. its much faster. (i see 5-6mb/s)
i have an old laptop and max i saw is like 90kb/s with blutooth.
I have very slow LAN transfer speeds over WiFi to my Windows 7 shared folders.
Using AndroidSMB client, I get a max of 500KB/s yet on WIFI WAN I get speed tests in the 30Mbit/s range.
I've had speeds of under 1MB/s before on my other devices, which makes me believe I likely have issues with my router settings and or how my Windows 7 shares are setup.
The Windows 7 computer is connected via Gbit LAN, and I have my whole drive shared with permissions only via a certain account.
What should I be looking at to improve my LAN transfer speeds on my Galaxy Nexus?

I've been using Samba Filesharing app from Playstore. Lets you set up a Samba fileserver on your gnex. Works with WiFi hotspot, so you don't even need your LAN. You can connect with Windows Explorer after assigning the sdcard as a network drive. All Explorer functions work normally, unlike MTP. I measured the xfer rate at about 2 megabytes/s via WiFi hotspot connection. Works beautifully for generally accessing files on your sdcard with Explorer.

I do all my downloading via LTE as I'm on an unlimited data plan and my connection speed is considerably higher than my fixed line internet but when I'm transferring the files to my pc via wifi, it seems abnormally slow. My files download at around 34MB/s (megabytes per second) but when I transfer them to my PC via wifi using cx file explorer (have also tried ES pro) I'm getting around 15MB/s. I'm using 5ghz AC wifi and the link speed in my phones wifi settings is 866mbps. Transferring the same files from my laptop to my PC via wifi is much faster at above 60MB/s.
Does anyone know what's going on here or have any ideas to figure it out?
Also, when transferring files via usb to the nvme drive in my laptop I'm getting 100MB/s, does this sound right? Was kinda expecting more from ufs 3.0.
(My usb cable is 3.1 gen2 10gbps)
Is something wrong here or am I just expecting too much from my phone? Any input will be very much appreciated.

Check to make sure that you aren't coming into any issues with wifi signal disruptions. Make sure your router is configured correctly.
Something's to try:
Choose a less congested wifi channel
Make sure you are using AES encryption
Select 40mhz or 80mhz channel bandwidth
Relocate the router to a different area
Restart the router
There is a lot of info on transfer speeds and etc, but suffice it to say a bunch of things come into play. If your running stock firmware then try getting a reliable class 10 microsd card for best read/write speeds. Keep in mind that microsd cards are rated for a max speed of up to X number (in mb/s). Sequential read/write, random read/write speeds will vary in speed.
MicroSD Cards write/read in megabytes per second, which is not the same as megabits per second of your wifi router (or USB 3.1 gigabits per second) speed. Internal storage is faster then microsd, I don't have the specs Infront of me right this second so I can't tell you by how much.
Also your wifi router does not give dedicated speeds per device, it has a set amount of speed that is shared amongst connected devices. More wifi devices connected transmitting/recieving data will cause speeds to decrease. Also the Wifi speed your seeing on the phone doesn't include any overhead from the router (or overheard from SMB/CIFS, etc), so your true speed may vary.
Try the router adjustments and see if that helps. If not then you may just have to live with what your getting speed wise for wifi transfers to/from PC.
* I will do some transfer tests with my wifi today and tomorrow to add more info on transfer speeds/setup. I am expecting a new wifi 6 capable router tomorrow, so I will post results of both of my routers after I get that set up...

My 5ghz wifi is running on 80mhz bandwidth, I've used inssider to check for other networks and there are none in my area running at 5ghz. My router is located in a space behind the sofa so I'm basically sat on top of it.
I recently installed the ASUSwrt-merlin firmware on my router (as well as the required full factory reset after the installation) but I've been experiencing the slow transfer speeds before and after installing that firmware. I have also tried putting my phone at the top of the QOS list in the router settings as well as turning QOS off completely.
I'm not using an SD card, all my files are being transferred from internal storage. I understand the difference between megabytes per second (MB/s) and megabits per second (mbps), USB 3.1 rev 2 is 10gbps, therefore has a throughput of 1250MB/s, obviously, you won't get that exact speed in the real world but you can expect a throughput of around 1GB/s providing both devices can handle that speed as well as the cable. I have done a storage speed test on my phone and the sequential read is over 1500MB/s and the write is over 500MB/s, well over what I'm actually getting over USB. I can deal with the USB speeds I'm getting, although it's slower than I expected (about 100MB/s), its fast enough for now.
If you could post the speeds you're getting, that would be great, If you're getting similar speeds then I know I'm just expecting too much from a mobile device (maybe Samsungs wifi module just isn't as powerful as a laptop one?). If not then I know I've got a bottleneck somewhere that needs fixing.

I use wifi direct instead of es pro, es pro transfers much slower for me for some weird reason, Maybe it's something to do with the es or cx apps, have you tried wifi direct? I'll try cx file explorer a little later and post my speeds as well.
Edit: ok, cx file explorer took 20 minutes and 8 seconds to transfer a 918 MB file, a direct usb c 3.1 connection to my same laptop took 25 seconds for the same 918 MB file and wifi direct took about 45 seconds for the same 918 MB file. Sorry I dont have the speeds but it looks like it's something to do with the apps. Also have you tried using a cloud storage for transfers like dropbox or onedrive? It's may be faster.
Edit Edit: I also read that the usb cable that comes with the note 10+ only uses usb 2.0 speeds which is what I used.
