Guys,
I heard from RIM that the BlackBerry Client will be ported to the BlueAngle early next year, no official timeline has been set. So hopefully we'll have it within 3-6 months.
According to this Engadget article, it looks like the 8525 will get a WM6 downloadable update.
But I don't think it will be available until the June or July timeframe. And besides, it isn't nearly as fun as the versions available to us here! (And you'll probably have to pay for it! )
You beat me to it!

same new on BetaNews; article doesn't mention release date nor whether it will be free or otherwise...

Quote from the article:
At the CTIA Wireless tradeshow this week, Microsoft announced that AT&T (formerly Cingular) will be providing Windows Mobile 6 as a free upgrade to current customers using the Samsung Blackjack, HTC 8525, or Palm Treo 750. AT&T is the first wireless carrier to confirm such plans.
missed that ...
Sir, I stand corrected
would a 18 hour work day be a valid excuse ? haha
As tester for "legal" user, may I propose a voucher for XDA-Dev community for free upgrade ?
Seems very true for WM6 (check how many WM6 rom before WM6 availability)
Cheers
Oh WOW. So in three or 4 months we might be able to run WM6 on our 8525's. That's what I'd be saying if the excellent members of this excellent site hadn't already made that available to us in several wonderful flavors! Instead I'll be saying... WM6? Yeah, been using it for MONTHS now. Glad to hear the rest of you finally caught up!
Hi,
I thought I read somewhere HTC would release this upgrade for the tp2 today? Does anyone know if this is the case, and where to get it? I could not find anything on HTC's site re WM6.5.
Thanks.
Noone knows a thing. Everyone expects the release to be tomorrow. But since some providers are already releasing it today, who knows?
There isn't any hard evidence to say when it's going to come out.
This is on Microsoft's site, hope it makes things clearer

This clarify some things...
I asked htc tech support the 6.5 question. They responded in minutes. That's a response speed I certainly did not expect! Very good, though I'm sure they are fed up answering the same question...
They've advised they are currently dealing with the license packges from microsoft (whatever that means), but no release date was mentioned. Doesn't sound far away though.
Hi,
I have downloaded on HTC Support site an update for my TP2 from Orange.
The file is named RUU_Rhodium_Orange_FR-B2B_1.19.73.5_Radio_Rhodium_3.45.25.14_Signed_Ship.exe dating October 1st 2009....
Can anyone tell me if it's WM 6.5 ? Or just an update of my 1.19.73.3 (51489) WM6.1 ?
Thanks
EDIT : Stupid question after reading at Microsoft that the WM 6.5 availability date is not yet known....
Sorry
The release date for TP2 is Thursday this week.

Proof please.
Not possible. I know the Sales Representative for WM Norway. He told me. I have known the release dates for a quite long time now.
This is a message on HTC's website:
If you have a phone from Orange or another provider though HTC won't be providing the update (not too sure I have much faith in Orange to provide an update).

Availability
The HTC Touch2, Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 are available through selected operators across Europe now and will be rolling out to other regions in the coming months. The new HTC HD2 will be available soon with selected operators across Europe, before rolling out to other regions.
Notes to Editors
Customers with an original HTC Touch Diamond2 or Touch Pro2 will be able to update their phone via a new ROM which will be available from HTC’s website in the coming weeks at www.htc.com.

I just received it via email.
/\oops the person above me got it too. /\
Did anyone else wake up this morning to a 6.5 update?
No really, I woke this morning and slapped my TP2 to shut off my alarm to be alarmed myself, I had a Windows Update telling me to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5. I pretty much crapped myself at that point, it started off and gave my the orange installation screen, than after a minute or two it gave me an installation failed message.
After that I frantically tried running Windows Update but the connection timed out continuously. Just wondering if I am the only to receive this?
If this happens tomorrow I promise pictures, but was this an isolated incident? Or did everyone else get this via Microsoft?
As much as I want 6.5, I'm in no rush, the internet is on fire with "6.5 sucks" stories. I personally just want TouchFlo3D 2.5, that twitter integration is calling my name.
/firstpost
HTC sure plays spoil sport - with expectations.
(i know they never told they will release the update on 6th, but when a date was announced by microsoft the two companies should have worked together to release the updates for every phone in their list. This is so not good for their PR).
I really dont see how microsoft expects to win the mobile phone war. By the time they come out with WinMO 7, they will again be miles behind, if all they could manage was a shoddy job at winmo 6.5 which apparently has nothing great to talk about - except IE - and who uses it anyway!)
I stuck to winmo all these years, as 5 years ago it was a good business phone and it also supported bberry.
This year i finally split and bought a bberry as there was no update for TP2 coming for months. - again, its a function of marketing - keep customers happy. I know there has never been a promise by htc on integrating bberry software on winmo, yet, after a point, people start expecting.
Somehow these giants just dont get it when it comes to customer service and marketing. Microsoft has definitely lost a customer the day i split and bought a second phone which is a pure bberry. The next upgrade, i will skip winmo entirely and look at the offerings from android and webos...
live long and prosper microsoft - if u can!....
T-Mobile Germany released the update today:
http://www.t-mobile.de/shop/handy/0,4855,2963-_16608-0-8949;CNC-4,00.html
Yes, i've found it too. After uownloading and unpacking i got a file named "RUU_Rhodium_S_TMO_DE_1.85.111.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.05_Signed_Ship.exe". With 7zip i've seen, the date of the NBH is 17th of September, don't know which version they used.
But i don't want to have this (i guess) buggy and extremly branded system on my device. I'll wait for an unbranded HTC-release or one from O2(DE), these are nearly unchanged too.

is it possible to install òne of these roms on a vario V without any problems?
Here are my predictions:
- End of June 2010 HTC will have sold 500,000 Desire phones
- End of April 2010 HTC, just in the UK, will sell 30,000 phones
By the end of 2010 I think HTC will have sold 5m Desire phones (not inc. USA sales)
Is this some kind of gambling-game?
How do you calculate your prediction?
I'd say
- End of July 2010 HTC will have sold 1m Desire phones
- End of April 2010 HTC, just in Germany , will sell 20,000 phones
By the end of 2010 I think HTC will have sold 7,5m Desire phones (not inc. USA sales)
End of June 2010 T Mobile UK will have sold 25,000
End of June 2010 T Mobile UK will have delivered 1,387.

I was basing my estimates on the poor Nexus One sales, only sold 135,000 in 74 days (about 2.5 months).

I think that was mostly due to it only being available via Google's site and not carrier shop-fronts.
XDA-Developer users obviously know what they want, most of the time anyway. We'd have no problems ordering such a high-ticket item online having never seen one in person. But for a lot of consumers they're rather see it in the flesh and make the decision.
I think sales should be good. I was surprised to see someone at work the other day with one (before me I might add). They were the last person I would have expected to buy one, but she did say she loved it!
end of april: around 15000 inclusive of international orders...
I dont care, i just want mine
it depends how its marketed if they can push it into peoples hands to try and THE better value nexus one sales will be massive but failing that i have no idea!

I think this is a very valid topic -- someone upthread was questioning its usefulness. If you could, I would like if you could insert the comparable figures for the iPhone, in all its version launches... because like it or not it does set the standard in at minimum PERCEPTION of success of a touchscreen device launched into the marketplace. In fact, please also add iPad projections vs sales data. My understanding is that the iPad is outperforming its projections, which themselves were higher than any iphone that preceded.
The # of sales over X period drives everything -- from movies to cars to electronics. But what is at stake here is a potential game-changing shift:
The DROID made some hay this past Christmas season as the new "IT" product, and potential (DREADED TERM --> ) "iPhone killer" . Well it wasn't, in the sense of sales penetration and worldwide user acceptance and brand awareness.
But the Desire is truly the first device that isn't (dumb/useless term: iPhone killer) an iPhone which could gain worldwide brand awareness as the most powerful, easiest to use, nicely designed smartphone for mainstream users.
The DROID purposely created a gritty marketing look, and testosterone-infused emotion in order to peel away some iphone enthusiasts who wanted PERFORMANCE and bigger screen and snapper processor. (iphone will for sure meet and exceed DROID in due time, no doubts there). But the DROID hit its market niche well, but is in no way a mainstream phone that both your girlfriend and Aunt Bertha would buy to make life easier.
HTC did a great job in renaming the Bravo "the Desire" -- which is at the core of all marketing and advertising -- to create desire. And they appear to have delivered a device worthy of that name.
Therefore, it is very relevant and interesting to track just how well it does.. because it foretells a big part of the future. Will Android in fact overtake iPhone (some say it already has, maybe in raw numbers but even that i am not sure, but it has not surpassed iphone in mindshare, and that's critical in building upon a successful product)? And will apple finally be knocked off its product development perch as King of User Experience?
In other DESIRE threads many of you know of the huge demand for the Desire just here at XDA alone -- and the reason is -- this is the one that can & hopefully will change the game -- and make it an open contest again in terms of choices for mainstream consumers who want the cache of "the latest & greatest".
Though I know i will be thrilled with my DESIRE when it finally ships, hopefully April 9th, I want to know how the Desire does in the marketplace. And I think the HTC funny-moves to divert stock from online retailers to CARRIERS is closely entwined with how relevant this particular mareltplace battle is: Will it outsell the iphone?
Prob not, because with apple's offering, it was "us" vs "all of the others"... and they succeeded wildly in reinventing the touchscreen phone paradigm, thus giving them the leg up they've had ever since. The Desire arrives into an already crowded marketplace -- but -- even if its sales are not comparable to version 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the iPhone, the RATE of sales is an impt metric.
My 2 cents which took entirely too many words to say

You should care, the more desires that are sold (of the more android is sold/becoming popular), the more developers will work on apps for android..

To me it doesn't matter so much if it's the nexus one or the desire. I don't have any shares in Apple, google, htc or anyone else who stands to profit from any success in this arena. But given that I've invested my hard-earned in a Desire, so I do have a vested interest in:
- Android gaining market share and hence solid developer support
- HTC sense reaching the kind of critical mass that will ensure swift adoption and packaging of android enhancements
- Both the above happening at this hardware performance point - if enough 1ghz snapdragon devices are sold, they won't be able to ignore it in Android 3.7 or whatever.
Every nexus one sale furthers two of those three goals, and every desire sale should get a thumbs up from "better value" nexus one users.
It'll be an interesting one to watch - the droid laid the groundwork globally, the nexus one has acted almost as a technology demonstrator (deliberately?) and if the vibe around is anything to go by (I've even had emails off people I don't know in work asking what I think), the Desire will mop up (no one mentions the Legend in conversation, hmmm). We'll see.
Droid is us only, Desire global so it will give much bigger impact than droid

I was thinking of the Droid inc. Milestone.
I attended an event today where a rep from Microsoft was demoing Office 2010, and was talking to him before his presentation. I asked what he could tell me about Windows Phone 7 and one of the things he said was that it could be released around September 7.
This probably doesn't mean much, but a rumored date is slightly better than none at all!
Sounds early to me. I think they are targeting november-december.
Might be. WP7 is closely tied to the Zune software, and new versions of that usually come out in September. Also, the rumored release time for the LG Panther is also September.

I also read somewhere that the Zune service will go worldwide in September. I just can't find where I read that though, but it seems plausible.
I can see rtm in september but handsets not till winter
HTC Windows Phone 7 Series device coming this year, says Peter Chou
HTC has been a loyal Microsoft partner throughout the years (despite starting to make more Android smartphones), and it will, as we already know, continue the partnership after Windows Phone 7 Series is launched.
In a recent interview with Forbes, HTC’s CEO Peter Chou mentioned that the company expects to launch its first Windows Phone 7 Series handset before the year’s end.
While Mr. Chou didn’t disclose further details about the WP7 smartphone, he did talk about the Android-based Google Nexus One, which is manufactured by HTC and has been reportedly sold in about 150,000 units since launch.
While some think the sales of the Nexus One are below expectations, HTC’s chief says the smartphone “has been an achievement”, since Google’s goal with the handset was only “to really show how good Android can be.”
Back to the Windows Phone 7 Series device that HTC plans to launch before the end of 2010 – if it’s going to be anything like Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G (which, of course, runs Android 2.1), it will probably be one of the best WP7 handsets (at least for the beginning), don’t you think?
