XDAunlock: "Error converting file" - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Cannot convert file 'XDAunlock'
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
That is the message i get when trying to unlock my ebay-purchased xda using XDAunlock. I found the program after my usual mobile shop failed to unlock it. I guess they may have been using this cool executable too!
anyway, please can someone suggest why this may be happening? and what else i might try?

Try This
If your fone is the basic XDA2, then go to this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6963
and ignore the bit about the program being replaced. If on the other hand you have a fone that is newer than the XDA2, (XDA2i, XDA2s, XDA3 etc.) go to the forum above and click on the link at the top for the newer fones.
There are step by step instructions available on each posting, which explain how to do it. Take notice of the warnings given in the postings, as I believe unlocking the fone may invalidate warranties etc but it depends on the country your in, source of the fone etc. As allways, any modifications are taken at your own risk. Saying that, ive not had any problems, and this community has helped me out a lot. Enjoy
Hope this helps.

Thanks - but it's an XDA - the first one...

Quick question regarding ROM upgrade please..

I'm trying to upgrade my IIs from 1.12.62 to iMate's 1.22 ROM, I read carefully thru all the posts here and I *think* I have everything set...
1) Got the xda3nbftool file and written the bat file to modify the ROM...
2) Got the Device Date file from my IIs etc
Am I correct that after the upgrade, I'll loose all original O2 or my carrier's setup from the extended ROM they provided? And bascially, my unit will be turned into a PDA2K right? Is it possible to retain all the O2 files etc while only upgrade the MS and Radio files?
Hey there CL55,
There is much discussion on this forum regarding this issue. I have done this upgrade myself and know it very well.
I used this particular post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14912 and followed the instructions by ohmlogic to complete the upgrade.
If you need any help or get stuck, Private Message me and I'll see what I can do.
PS: BEFORE you run the upgrade install make sure you have run the GetDeviceData.exe on your phone and retreived the file \windows\devicedata.txt (also from your phone)!!! This is very important and contains the data you'll need to import into your setup files in order to get it to work. If you get this wrong you will lock your device and wont be able to use it!!!
Hope this helps - good luck!
Dom

Yup, you did your homework
Your Phone will look and feel like an I-mate.
Is this a problem, well not realy.
Was not for me and I went form T-mobile in German to I-mate in WWE.
Now there is a whole section on Extened rom, the short is that your provider has added files that they thought were cool. They have put them in a place were you are not meant to see them. However this forum gives your tools that will "unlock" and Unhide" this folder.
If you need this option is up to you and your own understanding.
The fact remains that most of them are unremovebale thus you cant just go over the "remove progams" to get rid of them. So you might end up with software that you can't use or im my case I lost the PDF viewer and zip.
Givem that you have a FTP tool you could have a look at the exteneded roms that are on this server. Internet explore will error on you.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel
Here you can download the ones that look intresting to you and extract the *.Cab files that you like (Like the zip). Copy them over to your device and with explorer click on them to install.
Also you might have had seetings for your Voicemailbox number and your SMS sending number. These are also gone and need to be added again.
There is also a thread about the Splash Screens (what you see when you boot) Here to you can change them if you have the original ones. (I asked were they were hided in that thread but never got an answer.
So for me, I am fine with the I-mate release and the added *cab files that i got out of the other extened roms. All of which can be done without any further tools than what you have mentioned.
Please be aware that for version 1.22 and above the format has changed and that the xda3nbftool.exe may error out on you.
I have tried to start a thread on what has worked for which operator to help people out on this subject.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15510
Have fun
Thanks for the reply guys Like I mentioned in another topic, I just found out O2 has 1.31 ROM avilable thru their repair center! Will give that a shot first Thanks again!
CL55,
Excellent! Well, let us know how you get on and also it would be cool if you can upload it to the ftp here - ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/ - so others can try it out!

Dom

Unlocking Cingular 8525

I spent a whole day yesterday learning to unlock my new Cingular 8525. Then I tried it using HTC Hermes SIM Unlock v2a, and I followed closely discussion threat between crazyut and pof (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-286248.html), but I failed!
Steps as follows: I directly run RUU until ERROR 114 appeared. Then tried to copy HERM_Unlock_v2.exe to the phone, but found that I need to install the software to enable transfer of file from computer to the phone, so I install it. Unfortunately, the installation failed. In Device Manager there is item Windows CE USB Devices, with sub-item: HTC USB Sync(!). There is message: This device cannot start (Code 10). Then I tried uninstall and reinstall, but did not work.
So I use another computer. It can be installed, and connect the phone to this computer, and transfer the file. But I could not run it (I double click it; and also tried to run from: Start, Run, but no response).
Question: (i) Can the phone still be unlock (since the process was interrupted), (ii) Can I continue the process using another computer?, (ii) how can I transfer the file to the phone that can be executed, so I can complete the process.
Appreciate your help.
what bootloader do you have??? one of the first lines in the hermes unlocking thread is this:
It can be used in all HTC Hermes devices, the only restriction is that the device must have bootloader version 1.04
How to enter bootloader can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Resets
there is no need to post the same question in different threads. I have deleted your other post in regards to this matter. Next time make a post in the device specific thread
Many thanks finally a response to my posting (noted also your note regarding second posting - thanks). My bootloader is 1.06.
My understanding is that I can downgrade the bootloader from 1.06 to 1.04 using MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program, is this correct?
During the process, there is already a message "ERROR 114" as mentioned in Install instruction.
as an FYI you would have gotten a faster response in the hermes upgrading board.. but here is a post you need to read about downgrading your bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284401
when you follow those instructions make sure you follow #3 as stated.. if its not done as stated you will not accomplish this correctly...
Thank you, I will check and read the info from the link you mention. I.ll get back to you later. Thanks
I have googled the DownGrade_SPL.rar for more than a couple of hours, but could not get free file. All website that I found, we should pay, and some of them $35 - is this really the case? Is there website that can provide free file? Thanks
you dont need the downgrade....
first flash your phone cingular 1.6 bootloader phone with this..it will change your cingular phone to bootloader 1.4..both files are from cingular roms which makes you abe to downgrade your phone from cingular 1.6 to the 1.4 bootloader..understand??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277664
Then follow instructions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282073
after that you're phone should be unlocked and supercid...
it works.. i have done it to my cingular phone.. just read read and read some more.. everything you need to know is adressed on this website....
Enjoy

Let me also go through the information in the links. And I will get back to you, if I need further clarifications.

Re: Unlocking the 8525
Why not just call Cingu;lar and ask for the unlock code. If your a customer for more than three months, they have to give it to you!

Short success story after all - useful reading esp. before flasing your ROM

Motto: There is always hope.
Let me share with you, other xda forum members, the following story - I think it might be useful for some of those who already got problems with the upgrade procedures, and especially for those who just now contemplate to try their luck and launch the upgrade (to whatever WM version or AKU).
After successfully going through the reflashing procedure several times on my O2 XDA Exec precciousssss gadget (flashing Helmi_c 1.1 Crossbow, then JWright 06 and later JWright 08) I was confident enough (overconfident, perhaps?) to go on and reflash also my wife's i-Mate Jasjar (there were some issues all the same and I was recently thinking of restoring the factory defaults through the hard-reset).
JWright's ROM offers a very simple, almost luxurious, way to upgrade - basically the same as any of the official ROMs - just click the .exe file and pray. And there is the hitch - it says somewhere you need a 1.01 version of the Bootloader but I didn't know how to find out the version of the bootloader present on the unit in question without launching the bootloader itself through the "bulb - switch-on - reset" combination; and I admit (yes, the effect of over confidentiality, indeed) I was somehow too lazy to go and check (by the way, is there a way to find out what bootloader version you have other than the way mentioned above?). Somehow, perhaps, I thought the upgrade would indicate the bootloader mismatch prior to the system reflashing or what. And after all, the JasJar unit was purchased at almost the same time as my XDA Exec and there I knew I got a 2.0.1 bootloader version, so why to bother - silly me!
OK, here we go.
Flashing > "success" > unit "bricked" (no LED lights, USB unit not recognized by the PC, no signs of life of the poor thing not able to do anything but to accuse me by its doomy pathetic black screen of mishandling, asking me at the same time WHY have you done THIS to ME?) > moment of unpleasant, uneasy feelings comparable only to those created by a dozen of hamsters running their wheels in your stomach.
Now the good part of the novel:
Even before flashing my Exec for the first time, I diligently spent (a lot of) time reading all the relevant forum posts, downloaded emergency tools and was therefore prepared for the fact, that something might go terribly wrong.
Million thanks to all those who contributed to this forum sharing your knowledge and know-how, because based on your shared experience I was able to discover myself at the moment of utmost horror what the problem was (yes, in my case it was the bootloader issue - the JasJar got some 0.6 version of it - ever heard of it? I was considering the mtty Midget_1990's or the Mamaich's solution first, but then I recognized the boatloader's trickery and the right way to solve the crisis was in my case just to upgrade the bootloader through the known and somewhere here at this forum very well described ROMUpgradeUt bootloader procedure; to make the long story short, without the appropriate version of bootloader the unit will not boot, that's it).
Now the JasJar is fully recovered, happily running the WM6 Crosbow ROM, exactly as its O2 Xda Exec brother.
Lesson learnt
I strongly suggest that everybody does their homework in reading all relevant forum threads before venturing anywhere futher. It is only natural that after bricking the 1000 USD toy, most people will have problems to concentrate on anything of a substance and chances are, that instead of fixing the problem, you may mess everything up even more and end up in a deeper and hotter circle of hell without any return ticket.
And it needn't be like this, it is possible to avoid it!
I don't want to give anybody any false feeling of security and comfort due to my particular happy-end case. Every unit is perhaps slightly different, conditions are different (cable, PC OS...) etc, but most of the problems seem to have their solutions and by diligent reading of the relevant Xda forum posts, the chances of getting over the troubles through the shared know-how are high.
So stay cool and happy flashing.
Very wisely said Bonasa. Appreciate all your experience undergone. In fact this is the wise way to upgrade by reading more and keeping tools handy.
nice one Bonasa. I spent almost half of 2006 reading stuffs here in xda before I had the guts to use any of the ROMS here 2 weeks back. To those attempting to flash the first time, Bonasa said it all
Excellent post Bonasa. This gives a lot of information to first time upgraders. Your experience will surely help others in similar situation.
ok now im scared... i just bought my i-mate jamin yesterday and i really want to upgrade my wm5 to wm6... its just an oppsession to always have the newest things i guess... but im scared to screw up at some point and make my new device life-less
did anyone try to upgrade his i-mate JAMin with Helmi_c 1.1 Crossbow before ? btw what's crossbow ? :S
and how can i avoid this " bootloader " issue discussed by Bonsaa?
plz help...
Last week I made my first upgrade. I took the chance with the new Jwrightmcps ROM.
As you said, it's VERY important, I would say MANDATORY to read most of the threads in the forum.
My forum Join Date is 30-10-2006. Only after 3 months I made the first upgrade.
It's very nice to get a new ROM but we must be patience before doing it.
Last point:Before the upgrade I also got the "unbrick" tools , just in case...
And I had a stupid problem: stuck on bootloader: REASON, I didn't use the original cable during the first upgrade attempt.
Read before you try anything!
Cheers

Radio flashing problems SX66

Who can give me a hand here? I've only had the BA for a couple of days now, have flashed it to WM6 twice, no problems. The radio version is 1.02 and the signal is weak, the sound volume low. I've read the wiki, tried to flash radio 1.15 at least a dozen times, using both of the methods described, but no joy. All I get are country ID errors or device not compatible errors. I followed the instructions step by step and still no luck. Maybe somebody in this community has had the same experience and can steer me to the answer.
GETDEVICEINFO= PH20B1,WWE,AT%CID?,5.70.11,Minhanhtran.pv,1.02.10,%4, obviously, minus the blank spaces and little symbols.
Thanks in advance!

What 'methods described'?
As far as I can tell, the errors you are describing are covered in the wiki at:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...rmx20.ax20.Radiox20.ROMx20.upgradex20.onlyx3f.
Can you be a bit more descriptive on what you downloaded, what you tried and where it failed?
Read the wiki first......
Thanks for your reply jdc. I don't know how to be more specific about the errors. In the wiki, there are several methods of flashing the radio rom, but none of them work on this siemens, Cingular phone. I have unlocked the phone and as I stated, no problems upgrading the rom. I've read all the trouble shooting guides about the various error messages, tried all the solutions, but still no luck. I read last night that if you can get the original ship rom for your device you can delete the nbfs you don't want to flash and merely replace the radio nbf in the ship rom folder and flash it. There are links to the ship roms in the wiki, but unfortunately, they are dead links. Maybe somewhere on this site, the rom I need is posted, but I haven't been able to find it. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, let's see if we can step this through. Please forgive if old ground is covered.
Starting with How to upgrade to the latest Radio ROM version:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Radio_1.15_Upgrade
Using the "First Method (Quick/Easy) (TYPE II)", you were able to download BA_RRPT_Radio_11500.exe and MaUpgradeUt_noID.ZIP?
Running MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, you get an error. What is the exact text of the error?
And when you rerun the program after the error, it errors again. Different error or same error?
Also, what enviroment are you running? XP, Vista, Windows for Workgroups 3.11?
Tried again
jdc,
Reread your post, reread the wiki, downloaded fresh copies of the files ad tried flashing again. Here's what I understand and what I'm doing.
1. Placed BA_RRPT_Radio_11500.exe and MaUpgradeUT_noID.exe in the folder with my rom upgade files, replaced the rom nbf with the radio nbf, and ran MA----.exe.
It shows on the screen and on the mobile that the radio rom is being updated, but nothing happens for awhile, then I get an error message\ Radio romupdate error. Per the instructions in the wiki, I didn't touch my phone or remove it from the cradle and ran MA----.exe again, same error. I then tried running BA_RRPT........exe and got this error\ error:120 Country ID error. I really have no idea what this executable BA_RRPT---- is for.
What step am I missing? Maybe I am misunderstanding the instructions?
Also, I am flashing from WindowsXP.

Why do it that way? If your OS is fine, why try to reflash the OS as well?
When I did mine, the radio stack was flashed separately from the OS.
Download BA_RRPT_Radio_11500.exe and MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip, extract the radio, extract MaUpgradeUt_noID into the radio directory, and run MaUpgradeUt_noID on it's own.
Does that throw an error?

Good. Vista is know to interfere and be a general pain in the arse all the way around when it comes to flashing the phones.
Success, finally!
jdc,
Thanks for trying to help, but this seems to be a problem with the SX66 in particular. After reading many old upgrade posts, I found a user who had uploaded a radio utility specifically for the SX66. Tried it, first time, no luck, second time went through like a charm. I don't know why the siemens is any different from the rest of the BA models, but evidently it has some specific issues. Haven't had time yet to see if the signal strength and sound vol are any better, but here's hoping.
Thanks again

Well, you got it, that's what counts. Glad to hear it!
I have heard of some phones not accepting the flash the first time, but will if done a second (or more!) time. Totally bizzare.
The post you are referring to, can you link it here? I'd like to see it myself.

Thanks
Paul
anyone? noow any suggestions
This answer may seem condescending, but it isn't.
1. Are you attemtping to flash a rom update from the phone's original carrier or a non carrier specific rom? If a non carrier specific rom then see #2. If carrier specific did you download the rom from a secure place such as the carrier's website? If not, you may want to and try again.
2. Have you made sure your phone is CID and sim unlocked? This has to happen if you are attempting to flash a non carrier specific rom onto your phone. There is literature in your specific phone's Mobile 6 forum that is stickied or in the Wiki which will show you the best way to accomplish flashing. You must first read, then use the correct methods and tools or you will most likely create a brick. At this point of the game your phone is a little older and the path to Mobile 6 is well laid out. Which leads to the next question.
3. Have you done a search for this problem? You are not the first and will not be the last to have run into this issue. Using the search button does wonders here. If you have the cajones to flash your phone you are adventerous and the knowledge you will pick up will help in the long run. I say this because flashing is addictive and once you see the immediate improvements you will continue to look for better roms.
4. Please remember this is a developer's forum so the intelligence level is higher than most other forums but the patience level is much lower for those not willing to follow directions and/or help themselves. Some things have well laid out paths and others are trial and error. A lot of people here are doing a large amount of work for little to no money so please READ before embarking on your journey.
5. Get to work. Oh yeah. Please lit your phone's information in your signature. It will save someone asking the first 2 or 3 questions I did everytime. You could use mine as an example. Believe me it saves time and people are more willing to help.
hey thanks for your message
I am trying to flash the phone with Official O2 UK WM6 Trion (Hermes) rom 3.54.206.1_6275+radio 1.47 (3-8-2007) , the phone is simfree.
but even on trying to install Olipro v7 2.10 i get messages like 266 or 260 conection timed out or something. i am technical minded and i have tryed to serch for the awsers using google.
I suggest reading the Wiki and your Mobile 6 forums for the way to flash without using the usb cord. It will take a non-sdhc memory card and uses the nbh file from the rom you are flashing. Research that.
What is the HTC name for your phone? The Trion is a Hermes or a Wizard correct?
Also, CID and sim unlocking your phone will eliminate many future problems. Just be aware it automatically voids your warranty.
Okay - can you do a soft reset and have the phone work fine? That is step one. If so, then go to the Hermes Mobile 6 forum and check out the stickies. Dr. Puttingham wrote a great guide to flashing our phones.
If you can't get the phone working from the soft reset I suggest reading the Wiki and the Mobile 6 forums for the way to flash without using the usb cord. It will take a non-sdhc memory card and uses the nbh file from the rom you are flashing. Research that.
The Trion is a Hermes, which is what I have (Cingular 8525). I would suggest a non carrier rom of Mobile 6.1. You will find it to be much faster and stable.
Also, CID and sim unlocking your phone will eliminate many future problems. Just be aware it automatically voids your warranty.
hi i just found out that thephone is not a trion afterall it is a xda mini s, can this still be upgraded
I believe the Mini S is a Wizard. check out the forums. All the answers are there. I retired my Wizard 3 months ago . This is an easy problem to fix. Just read. I still suggest Mobile 6.1. Especially on the Wizard.
