enjoy my friends..
A "real" version of WM2003, I bet O2 wont follow suit.
Yeah it is the final.. its very nice i installed it and its way faster and doesnt crash.. very pleased.. although the .exe file sucks and wouldnt install so i just loaded it onto a sd card and used the bootloader to get it on the pda..
great.... this is what i've been waiting for... for months.... the dream finally come true... hehehehehehehe....
Can I install this on an asian version?
Will it force-upgrade my radio stack?
I presume this is for US market? So it will be on 1900.
Its shown on the website that it can be "Auto band selection when traveling overseas", so does I can use the 900/1800 band when in asia and uk?
the other thing, can I just put out the .nb1 file from this exe installer and then replace with the one inside the "cooked" rom? will it cause error?
yes you can... extract the .exe file using Winzip or Winrar
take the Nk.nbf file, use XDAtool or XDarit tool to burn it on your SD card, upgrade using SD method... then it will only upgrade your ROM not your radio stack
what "extras" does it have, and what AT&T WS programs does it have.
Now hopefully T-Mobile will release theirs soon.
hi,
has anyone tried to run the file once its downloaded???
just downloaded it myself and double clicked on the exe and i get a corrupt message...
anyone having any luck with this???
Thanks alot
Zetex
Working OK
I extracted the all the files from the downloaded file using winzip. I then used xdatools to copy the nk.nbf image to my xda.
It worked .... no problems so far running the WM2003 ROM.
I guess I was taking a few risks and would have been better copying the nk.nbf to a SD card and then use the bootloader method but I didn't have an SD card handy.
Hope this helps.
zetex
dont do that if you upgrade using the exe then you'll prob get the radiostack aswell and if it's an us radiostack you'll loose your gsm 900/1800
hi m8,
what the best way of putting on my xda1 and also upgrading my radio stack to v4.21.
my radio stack is currently v4.20. I have recently used the xdatools to load the beta version A.20.07 ENG version of wm2003.
What will i need to laod this version and also upgrade my radio stack to v4.21. IS v4.21 the best for the UK???
should i extract the nb1 from the exe and use xdatools like last time???
Thnaks alot
Zetex
From what I've seen on this forum, I think v4.21 is the most recent & best radio stack for the UK. Follow the links from http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html to obtain it.
As for the new A30.09 ROM, I extracted the nbf and then used xdatools. I think xdatools converts the nbf to a nb1 if you put it on an SD card but I don't really know too much about it.
hi,
i ahve just downloaded the radio stack from O2 v4.21. I have tried to upgrade through active sync 3.71 it upgraded ok, but when i went to restart the xda it gets stuck on the boot screen. the one that says test not for resale... and at the bottom right hand corner its says A.30.07 and then locks up.
normally before i tried to upgrade it said A.30.07 the underneath it said 4.20...
anybody know what i need to do to correct it??
Thnaks alot
Zetex
I can't even get the damn thing to download
How does this compare to the T-Mobile Rom 4.01.00 ? I'm in the UK and O2 don't appear to be releasing a Rom so I'll be going with one of the US ones..
I currently have 4.01.00 on my XDA and it is fairly stable, with only a few minor quibbles.. is the Siemens Rom better in any way ?
Cheers
I had no problem downloading, a little slow but it came across ok. By the way, I am in need of an early radio upgrade for O2 xda, anything before 4.21.
what version of the radio update is included in this version ???
fcan anyone fillme in. thanks
Does anyone know if this rom has WMODEM.exe (wireless modem program)?
something went wrong
I just did the sd install of the attws mobile 2003, and my radio stack is not working. If I go into the bootloader I get the message gsm error. I have tried to install the rsupgrade into the windows folder in the sx56 after I execute the file it will get to 1% and then it will say failed and press ok to restart. I do the restart and it trys to reload the radio stack again and then says failed. The only way to get it our of this loop is to do a hard reset and then wait ten minutes for the sx56 to start again. I hope someone can help me. Thanks.
p.s. I don't have a battery meter either and the sx56 charge light doesn't work either.
Hi all - I've just corrected the link on the MPx200.org page (it originally pointed to an international link, but knowing that it is for the US version, I searched the US pages for an alternative link) so if you were having problems getting it before, you should be able to click on the valid US link now.
Hey..
I think in the moment there are many guys, out there, included me, that share the same problem: all probably unlocked their Dash's, Mail's or whatever using anykind of unlocking method (me, imei-check).
I am using a German MDA Mail, i needed to unlock it, in order to use it with my phone carrier apparently.
Now, the version of my phone is somewhat 1.18, and I want to update it to the WM6, like many others too. Both ways; SPL 1.11 and trying the update itself onyl lead to the same outcome : Invalid vendor/model id !
Many often say: yea, look in the CID unlock thread...well i did, very often, but there is no real solution to that problem, since basically, my Dash is unlocked, and presumably also CID unlocked since i got that from imei-check, which i think is a pioneer in that sector.
So, after all, what can we do!? Is it possible to still trying update that phone?
Hope we can find a solution, cuz i dun feel i am the only guy who has that problem.
I may have the same problem. Are you trying to unlock on Vista or XP?
I got it unlocked on XP, it worked fine i got to admit, no problems at all, my phone now seems to be unlocked and it works with another phone carrier, apart from T-Mo, which should be an indication FOR the CID unlock...
I dont think it is important to App unlock the Mail as well, cuz imei-check said it would be included...soo, would it be reasonable to ask imei-check, or does somebody else have an opinion about that?
I just upgraded to WM6. Here's what I did.
Unlocked it from imei-check. Ran SPL Upgrader. It gave me a Vendor ID being incorrect error.
Then I ran the WM6 upgrader from HTC. It upgraded and rebooted.
Now my phone is running WM6 and everything is fine.
Ha? you serious, thats very cool...well i tried it again with the spl upgrader, he went to 100%, aborted then with an invalid model error...then ran the upgrade afterwards, still didnt work... what about the version, did u take the German or the English one!?
Aaaargh, i am about to freak out..why doesnt it work, both SPL and the WM6 Upgrade give Invalid model errors, before i at least got a invalid vendor id, but not even that anymore...HELP...did imei-checks unlock didnt really work or what...
Yeah, I am very serious. I am using WM6 right now. I have a Dopod C720w.
Ok, here's what I did.
Unlocked through IMEI-check's software.
After that, I ran the SPL Upgrader. It went to 100% then gave me an Invalid Vendor ID error. I exited from there and then ran the HTC WM6 upgrade rom program. That started and slowly went to 100%. It said it had finished its job, so I removed my phone from the cable.
Then I proceeded to totally freak out because my phone looked like it was stuck at the Windows Mobile loading screen. I waited and after a long time, the rom initialised and ran through its first boot sequence.
Now its working perfectly and everything feels a bit faster.
If you went through the exact same steps, then I am not sure what your problem might be. Sorry. To tell you the truth, I am a completely noob at this who just did random steps and was lucky enough for it to work
P.S. I used the WWE (English) version, as I can't read German. I downloaded it off a rapidshare link posted in the big thread about HTC's rom release.
Well, i might not have much more skill either, but it is still quite worrying, is there maybe a difference between model and vendor id !? i am not quite sure what to try anymore, i remember yesterday, that i had a wrong vendor id as well, but today i just always got invalid model ids...very weird...well i will continue trying..do u remember what ur MDA mail version was before u updated it..sth like...1.18 !? by the way, which SPL upgrader are u using?
I am not using a MDA Mail. It's a Dopod c720w, same hardware, different branding.
This is the SPL Upgrader I used:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/smartphones/Excalibur/RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe
Try with that. It should work.
I think my version before upgrading was 1.15 something.
Nah, i think its the same SPL Upgrader (same size...) but i just dont get the idea why it doesnt work, some experienced upgrader here who can explain us the process?!?! I am not sure whether a reset of all settings would do a thing?! geez feel quite helpless in the moment^^
I had the same problem
but the only thing I did when got those problems was leaving my Vista based laptop and try with an XP based, downloaded the activesync, connected my htc, installed the SPL (downgrade) and then the WM6 WWE ROM, oh, I remember, first I installed the german version by mistake, so I had to repeat the process with the SPL before applying the correct ROM again.
When I was unlocking my HTC, I had some problems on the vista system, and I deactivated the antivirus... Could that be related?
Good Luck!!!
You haven't answered as to whether you're using XP or Vista. I ran into the same issues trying to do the SPL and ROM updates via Vista, when I tried it on my XP system -- both worked without errors.

Yeah, after hearing so much about Vista, I used my XP system to update the rom. Worked fine.
i LOVE imei-check, i wrote them an email a moment ago to ask them for support, they replied me after 10 minutes with a full strategy how to encounter the problem, fabulous support i gotta admit, here's what they said:
Hello,
It sounds like you try to make a CROSS-MODEL-ID update (e.g. WiFi chip missing T-Mobile ROM on a WiFi enabled HTC device).
EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. You only have to use SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS in order to make a CROSS-MODEL-ID update:
*If you REALLY do it EXACT step by step like described you will have no problems*
Tools you need:
===============
- HexWorkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
- the ROM of your choice
- Winzip or Winrar
- a valid UNL file for YOUR phone
Preparation:
============
a) install HexWorkshop and Winzip or Winrar on your pc
b) in explorer on pc, RIGHT click on the ROM of your choice and use: "Extract files to folder ..." from conext menu Now it will unpack all the files
c) in the new folder you will have ONE file like "HRUU_signed.NBH" (*.NBH) RIGHT click on the .NBH file and use: "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from context menu
d) You'll see on the 5th row EXCA20000 ==> !!! make it EXCA***** (5 stars) and save the file
e) Now RIGHT click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and use:
"Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from conext menu Search for word
"BsaD5SeoA" (without quotes, case sensitive)
You'll find it around address 0x3FC6C
==> replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" (without quotes) and save the file
ROM-Update:
===========
1) take SIM card and SD card OUT of the phone
2) Connect the phone running windows ce to the pc (normal way).
3) Completely Unlock your phone using our unlocker <== REALLY IMPORTANT
4) After phone is unlocked run unlocker (again) BUT when the unlocker ask for UNL file, remove the USB cable from the phone THEN press "Cancel" on the unlocker select file window (unlocker will close on PC). NOTE: The screen on the device will not show something usefull when in this mode. Most probably it is complete WHITE. !!THIS IS NORMAL!! Don't touch phone, let it like it is!
5) After you closed the unlocker, attach usb cable again (phone has still white screen)
6) start (the modified) ROMUpdateUtility.exe
7) when update finished and device started you will get a message:
"Data Crashed, contact service provider" (!NO PANIC!)
==> Simply fix this problem by running the unlocker again and this time select the key file normal way (full unlock process again).
In case you have problems please indicate the step number/letter which is not clear/not working for you.
*If you REALLY do it EXACT step by step like described you will have no problems*

P.S., would be a good idea to post this as a sticky, since it really explains how to update a original HTC rom on such wifi lacking Excalibur versions like the MDA Mail,
greets and good night
Did you try to email imei-check?
I know that exactly the same problem occurred when the T-Mo WM6 came out.
Imei-check had sent back their customers who were not able to upgrade a procedure how to modify their unlocker with a hex editor to change the model ID.
BTW: Model ID: there are two different models - EXCA100 and EXCA200 - take a look under your battery - german XDA Cosmo for example is EXCA200 (there the SPL seems not to work)
The other thing is the vendor ID. This seems to be solved by pof's Upgrade SPL 1.11
So simply try to write to imei-check and say that your unlock does not work - in the past they were very customer friendly - hope this didn't change meanwhile
EDIT: OK - vivid was a little bit faster - next time I should refresh the thread before I answer...
FYI !!
saw some post where people was being impatient during the upgrading process and completely abort the process ...etc
you are supposed to be at the logo screen for a period of time ... it doesn't meant it's hanged ... be patience !
just a note
Patience is the key...
Hm, OK, I did it... I bought the fracking UNL, took me one hour to figure how to get rid of the protection (security + antivirus) in my laptop that did not allow me to run the unlocking app. Finally, I got it.
First time I flash the ROM it did not work. I tried using first the SPL, and it worked nicely. After that, I could flash the ROM. Be patient, it takes some minutes to reboot, and it looks like is freezed, but not... wait!
Can´t see much difference from WM5, but I noticed a best performance in wifi connection. Now I´m fracking installing all the goodies I had before... bluetooth keyboard is not working... I will work it out a little bit.
Just in case, if someone wants the UNL for research... PM me.
I am glad it all worked out for you. Didn't know that the MDA Mail came without Wifi.
Wow, I must say, I am glad I used Imei-Check's service as well. That was an extremely helpful reply they sent you. Not seen many companies who do that.
That's exactly what i thought
Maybe we should write them a thankyou email for all their great help in name of the whole xda-developers community what u think
Anyhow, can somebody explain me real quick what should be definitely be installed to WM6?
@PhoenixAG: yeaa stupid T-Mobile GER...they didnt take away the wifi chip on the S710 or the newer ones, have no idea why they did it to the Excalibur then..
It would be a good idea to stick this solution.
I think many users in this forum have exactly the same problem in doing a cross model ID update. You can see Excalibur devices from many countries and carriers here.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Mail too which lacks the Wi-Fi and had to do the same steps after cid-unlocking it through imeicheck.
You have to do it really step by step. I had problems in doing it out of my memory for the new HTC ROM and wondered why it failed. But going through it step by step really works EVERY time I did it and thats now the third time.
First was installing T-Mobile Dash WM6 ROM, second the Russian HTC ROM and now finally the German HTC WM6 ROM.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17473
well im changing this because of a request that a lot of people supposedly dont know how to flash. but i dont think that the link was doing anyone much good. so here is what is at the link (right now at least).
THIS IS ONLY FOR THE HTC CDMA TOUCH (VOGUE) !!
i know this first post here is now real long, but READ IT ALL before posting/pm'ing anyone. trust me, you will get through it all...every last word.
(dont get all scared either, this cant ruin your phone. if you are stuck at the htc boot screen, your device is not bricked. if you are stuck at a rainbow/tricolor screen, your phone is not bricked. have faith and patience! )
this method is for a pc running Microsoft Windows XP. if this is not your situation, still continue reading as there are methods for virtually every case.
ive been told that imcokeman's vogue unlocker will not work from a partitioned drive, though im not sure if thats the case.
if you know what flashing/the benefits of flashing are, skip this paragraph; if not, read on. flashing could be likened to installing a different Operating System on your PC. keep in mind, however, that when flashing roms to phones/pdas, the roms ARE DEVICE SPECIFIC. if you find an awesome rom for the titan and LOVE it, but you yourself have a kaiser, forget it. only roms made specifically for your device (and no, even if you have a cdma device, and they make a gsm version of your device, it still will not work) will work for your device. the benefits/advantages of flashing a custom rom onto your device are speed enhancements, addition/removal of programs/settings/reg settings you want or dont want.
now for how to..
for some slight insight on using a Mac, have a look down to the bottom where it says "HERE IS THE BOTTOM" after reading everything else, and/or go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ighlight=macos
for how to on Vista: look down to the bottom where it says "HERE IS THE BOTTOM" after reading everything else, and/or simply remove any sd cards you might have and follow below directions as normal, and/or go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292631
linux users: still read everything here, but have a look down at the bottom where it says "HERE IS THE BOTTOM"
for those who don't know this, flashing your phone also performs the same functions a hard reset would. all your previous apps, contacts, registry tweaks, etc will be gone. also, when you flash someone elses custom rom onto your device, keep in mind that they may have cooked in their own apps and registry tweaks.
ok, go ahead and go to this http://rapidshare.com/files/88767429/RUU.zip.html rapidshare link, and download the ruu.zip there. (if this does not work, navigate to \vogue\users on the ftp, and you should find "RUU.zip" there. if not, go to the folder there titled "jim256-jim2561" and you should find "RUU.zip" there.)
if for some reason you are unable to download the ruu from the above link/location, try my ftp dir here: ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/jim256 - jim2561
download whatever rom image you want
if the rom you download is in nbh format (something.nbh), read on and skip step 7.
if the rom you dowloaded is an exe (something.exe), read on and skip steps 5 and 8 (or use winrar or a similar program to extract the .nbh from the .exe)
then, get imcokeman 's latest vogue unlocker tool.
for those who arent sure, you never have to have ActiveSync synchronized for this to work. you just have to have it connected, with ActiveSync recognizing that the device is there and plugged in.
1. backup all contacts/data/etc..
2. ensure your device is connected to your pc via activesync.
3. run imcokeman 's vogue unlocker and follow ALL instructions in the command prompt exactly .
4. once you have booted back up into wm and are connected to activesync again (dont worry about setting up your device again because you're just going to flash it again and erase all that in a second anyway) extract the ruu.zip to somewhere convenient.
5. (FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF THE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS AND NBH) stick the rom you downloaded (should be something.nbh -- if the file extension is NOT NBH, stop; this will get you nowhere. as i stated above, roms are device specific, you cannot install another devices rom to your vogue.) into the RUU folder from the rapidshare/ftp link.
6a. (power-camera reset) press and hold both the camera button and the power button (top), and poke the stylus into the reset hole. you should then be presented with the tricolor screen and near the top you should see something like coke 0.4.0 ( if you do not see the coke 0.4.0, then dont bother trying to flash your device. if it does not say coke 0.4.0, the device is not unlocked, and you need to start at step 3 again).
7. (FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF YHE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS AN EXECUTABLE). run the exe!
8. (FOLLOW THIS STEP ONLY IF THE ROM YOU DOWNLOADED IS AN NBH) run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the ruu folder you downloaded and extracted.
9. follow the steps, be patient, be careful, and whala!
10. thank imcokeman and whoever you downloaded your rom image from.
good luck.
also, for all those that keep asking about this and are worried about this, yes, the version discrepancy is completely normal in the ruu before updating. it just means v1 of the cookers rom, so even if it is a version lower than 1.12.651.1, that is ok.
whenever you flash a custom rom, it says whatever they want it so say in the ruu, so even if it doesnt say 1.12.651.1, that doesnt mean that it is downgraded, it is just the version of the custom rom builders rom.
HERE IS THE BOTTOM
ok, for those vista/mac/linux users, there is another method of flashing., courtesy of pnyce777 in post #42 and on. this method is via the sd card. it is not required that you do step one if your card is already fat32. i will update this post as we gain more knowledge
1. Format your MicroSD card to FAT32 (YES - FAT 32 32 32!! not just plain old FAT) (again, this is not required if your card is already fat32; it is ok to have other data on the card). I have read that the card needs to be 2gb or smaller, though I'm not sure how much truth, if any, there is to that...
2. Extract the .NBH you desire to flash from the exe or zip or w/e put it on the microsd card rename it from RUU_signed.nbh to VOGUIMG.NBH
3.Put the MicroSD card in your phone and Get To the BOOTLOADER screen (camer+power+reset) it should then start updating with the .NBH on the SD card and the procedure should begin automatically.
you can also use this procedure to unlock your phone by flashing the .nbh from Cokemans unlocker just extract it and rename it VOGUIMG.NBH or if your stuck at that HTC screen and cant sync because your phone wont boot up.
i will try to provide support on this as i can, but as i have never used this method myself, pnyce777 is probably a far better resource if he is available and willing.
sorry this is now so long, wasnt supposed to be in the first place. but if you're not already used to a lot of reading, this is a good first step, because you will need to be doing a LOT of reading.

If I've helped you out, $1 would be more than appreciated! donate. thanks
bump for same reason as above.

Jim, great how to. As a noob, I have a qstn about different carriers. I just got a VZ touch and want to know which roms are best to use with which carrier? Some roms seem carrier specific... others seem like they will work on anything. How do you tell whats wat? I have been waiting for someone to post a ROM specifically for VZW, but I haven't found it yet.
It might also be helpful to add a glossary. Like I have read how some folks have taken a sprint kitchen moved it to a new directory (?) and merged it to make a verizon kitchen. With that people have flashed their VZ phones but it doesn't seem like something a noob should try

ok. so as for different roms saying they are for different carriers, they are most likely just referring to having the different directories (/folders) for the carriers. so what that means is that a sprint rom would actually work just fine for you, but it may have things like sprint tv or on demand on the cube or other places. it will still function just fine and everything though. it would probably look a little different than the stock vzw rom (im not sure really how it looks) and such. the only way that you could get screwed having the wrong rom for your carrier is if you were flashing the radio as well. but since you're not (in most cases), it doesnt matter really. just be sure to check the roms threads about whether they include a radio or not.
as for the glossary thing, that is probably a great idea. thanks for the tip i will get working on that.
so what you will need to do is:
1) download a kitchen: set of tools for creating/editing roms. dcd just finished his vogue kitchen; available here on xda in this vogue upgrading subforum. there is also lattisimo's older vogue kitchen available on the ftp site over at ppc geeks ("qlinks" at top of page, ftp upload/download, vogue -> users -> lattisimo? (i think?)).
2) download a verizon titan/mogul/ppc 6800 kitchen from somewhere, look in the "sys" folder contained therein, and copy the "carrier vzw" or "verizon" or "carrier customizations - verizon" folder (it will be something like that) into the "sys" folder of the vogue kitchen you have downloaded.
3) delete whichever other carrier customization was already in that folder (such as alltell or sprint or bell etc..)
4) run "buldit.bat" or "buildnb.bat" (or something similar) and flash your new rom that will be located in the "ruu" folder after the batch file (xxx.bat) is finished!
feel free to ask any more questions if that wasnt too clear (sorry :S) .
good luck!

You can't just "make" a ROM for a different carrier. The phone itself won't work because it's registered for one comapny.
Great Thread!
Good to see there are some thorough instructions out there for noobs... Howabout an unlocker for Vista 64??? Any advice? Thanks.
Yes, we're all noobs!!!
I have a brand new Excalibur (I bricked my first one five mins. out of the box) and I attempt to upgrade following instructions on the tutorial posted on these forums.
What's not stated on said tutorial (and no one tells you, only after you bricked your phone) is that YOU MUST BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM before the upgrade, because if anything goes wrong, that is the only ROM you can flash to your phone to restore it, otherwise IT IS BRICKED. (Believe me, it happened to me).
So, to all you experts reading these, please, help us noobs and post here a complete guide on how to back up your original ROM.
We will thank and worship you forever!!!
These days, there is no need to backup your own Rom.
We have a collection of ROMs on this site alone. Or in my signature.
I do suggest to download one prior to updating your ROM.
This forum uses most of a collection of ROM i have uploaded for everyone.

I have two questions: Firstly, there is no official O2 Xda Cosmo ROM or? Secondly, if you back up the ROM first, how can you flash it back to the device? Is there a tutorial for this?
Thanks

After rereading, I still have the questions:
1. How is it possible to flash back a saved backup ROM image?
2. If I use a USPL and then something goes wrong while flashing a cooked ROM, can I only re-flash my original ROM (i.e. for XDA Cosmo which doesn't exist)?
Thanks
Okay - maybe I just figured out the answer to my own question: if I flash the USPL-RUU first before flashing a ROM update, maybe this means I can reflash if something goes wrong? Is this correct, or is there a chance that the SPL get overwritten before the error and I still get stuck?
Well, in fact, it is necessary...

...When I mean original ROM, I mean the ROM that could only work on a CID-Locked-by-a-carrier Excalibur, not the HTC WW ROM release.
Also, many of us noobs are international, I doubt that on the ROM database on this website we'll be able to find, say, the Movistar Mexico HTC Excalibur WM5 1.15.0000 ROM, which in my case, is the only one I would be able to flash in case anything goes wrong on the upgrade attempt. (I dedicated a week searching this ROM for the first Excalibur I bricked, no results)
Therefore - and I really hate to contradict -, for many of us, a ROM backup IS necessary and a tutorial from you experts on how to do it would be a great, great contribution to this community. (And also to the database, 'cause I'll definitively upload my ROM once I back it up)

Actually, it's quite easy to CID unlock your phone to load whatever ROM you want. Much easier in fact, than dumping your current ROM and restoring it. I was able to flash my first ROM within about 30 minutes of reading on this forum, and had no problems at all.

I completely agree with you
I just have no idea how to restore a backed-up ROM and I haven't read anything saying how to do it either. As you say, many of us a stuck with devices CID locked to some international ROM that is impossible to get.
So once again the question: Does anyone know how to re-flash a backed-up ROM?
I'm no expert but all I'm going to say is this. If you have a Rom from a different carrier that has not leaked to the public, then you are probably out of luck. You take the risk of hoping your phone will not have serious problems down the line of your contract or usage. You should pick up insurance on your phone depending on the stipulations your carrier has about lost or stolen or even broken phones. In that case you could return/replace your phone if need be after modifying it to your liking. I also would suggest that the entire reason we are here is that we don't want to be like the norm. We want what we paid for and don't want to be restricted. It's a risk. You must make that choice and succeed or fail that's not anyone's problem but your own. With all the Roms out there you should find one to your liking. If you brick your phone which seems so much more difficult than my razr modding days, than sell it for parts and lesson learned.
In the U.S. the Open Headset Alliance is our future so what we do to our phones in the future will be our choice.
Good Modding
Pfunk
C'mon guys...
Wy all the negativity?
I'm I conspiring against copyright laws if I want to have a backup of the ROM I paid for?
Is backing up a ROM frowned upon on this community? or is it so easy (from what I can gather it requires "dumping" and "restoring") that it is even insulting for me to ask you how to do it?
Yes, we are all here because we don't conform to the norm, but we are all HERE to help each other out. Why the closure? Why the elitism?
Like all of you, I want to take full advantage of the piece of technology I acquired without the restrictions installed on them by the phone corps. Yes, I would like to have the minimum risks while doing so, and yes, I would like to do it as cost effective as I can, just as anyone of you would.
It is a risk to upgrade a Cid.Locked phone with the bypass provided on this website, It happened to me and to many: USB cord unplugs and voila, bricked phone.
One alternative is to pay $40 bucks for a permanent Cid.Unlock, which will allow you to flash and flash and flash, even if you get stuck in the middle of one process.
The other, used by many here who wont pay, is to use the Cid bypass, while having a backup original rom "just in case".
What I only ask (for myself and my peer noobs) is to have this same other alternative as many, many of you.
Really, is it to hard to post the following?
1. Downoad these softwares;
2. Do this to "dump";
3. Do that to "restore";
4. To re-flash, do this.
C'mon, all for one and one for all right?
p.s. For my friend asking how to re-flash a backed up ROM, from what I've gathered, it goes something like this: your backed up ROM must be in a *.bn format (I still don't know how to even achieve this); then you must get a hold of any HTC RUU Software, extract it (Winrar) and replace the *.bn file inside the extracted folder with your *.bn file; with the HTC connected in bootloader mode, run the exe file in the extracted folder.

The Official ROMs collection is as full as I can make it. To have more images, we need everyone to upload ones that are missing to something like rapidshare, mediafire, or one of a few dozen other hosting sites, then tell up here on xda dev. Or upload it to several yourself. Spreading things on the net is much easier than ripping the ROM out anyway, and you benefit from the online backups, too.
So, yes, if you aren't going to back up your ROM, hope that someone else already has. Or, even better, be that first guy who does it, to make things easier for the rest of us. Besides, we might want to see what kinda goodies are tucked in the Movistar version
Indeed!

Thanks for the support Profezza, indeed I intend to be the first, but in order to do that, I need to know how to do it.
I'll keep my hopes up for someone to post here the procedure for backing up my own ROM.
Also, the Movistar version is pretty lame, at least it would be a language addition to the database since it is originally in Spanish.

I think the version # system is controlled by HTC and fairly consistent across brandings, so it looks like it is a rather old one, but yeah, it could handy just for the Spanish. And ya never know, maybe a better graphic or two in some odd corner. I'll come back and bump this if it looks like it is fading away.

Hi velascoperroni!
Thank you for your help - this is helping me to get closer to understanding
Basically I have my old ROM image as .img files (actually 5 of them) produced by bkondisk, together with a log file saying what goes where. So now all we need to figure out is how to turn these back into a .bn file and we'll be in business. For info on bkondisk, which lets you save your ROM (as .img files), see this wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=bkondisk
Could anyone point me to some resources on these two file formats? Then maybe we could come up with a conversion program when one doesnt exist
Getting closer!
Great, it seems we are getting closer to our goal!!!
But still surprises me that no one has posted a complete how to... perhaps the only few who know the deal haven't read this thread yet.
Now we know the following:
1. Bkondisk: software that allows to backup ROM in *.img format.
2. The original format of the ROM is *.bn
We don't know if the *.img file needs to be converted to *.bn or if they are compatible.
I also found out about an easier method to re-flash the ROM:
1. Format your SD Card in FAT32;
2. Copy your *.bn file to your SD Card;
3. Turn off phone, insert SD Card, Turn on phone in bootloader mode;
4. The phone should automatically recognize the ROM and start the flashing process.
Uccelino: Try placing the *.img file in the SD Card instead of the *.bn file. Maybe, just maybe the phone also recognizes *img files!

Sorry for the double post back there!!

I never got a feasible response to wether sprite backup would work or not, and I did not want to spend $30 bucks to find out.

I just had an idea: I will flash a ROM, back it up, and compare the *.bn files to the *.img files I get from backing up - maybe they are or are almost the same, and we can convert them
I will try. Thanks

No search! Impossible. Theres a whole forum dedicated to flashing including WM 6.5. Looking through that forum there is even a sticky for noobs on flashing. I won't even post the link.
Heres the link to flashing! Start with this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
But seriously, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, its just that if you couldn't find that forum you probably shouldnt be trying to flash a ROM.
Welcome to forums
Read deeply the Wiki (Rhodium)
And here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
Then select your desired 6.5 ROM and enjoy!

Hmmm...I smell a troll. Managed to find XDA forums to ask about ROMs but can't understand the concept of searching? Nah, I don't buy it, just a kid playing around.

Getting WM 6.5 shouldn't be this hard, SOS - I need help!
I'm having the same problem. . . . . I have flash my T-Mobile TP2 by following all the instructions posted by mskip. I have the multi color screen (red, green, blue white) with the following information:
RHOD210 32 SS- BC
SPL-0.85 OlinNex
MicroP(LED) 0x0A
MicroP(KEY) 0x04
TURBO HW/TURBO SW
TP MFG DATA
505,527 807, 853
811,196 199,193
203,860 Calibrated
So my TP2 is flashed. . . . My phone still says 6.1 when re-started.
Now What? I know people are going to say download a rom from the Rhodium forms. . . . I have about 20 downloaded to my computer.
My question is how in the HELL do you put window' mobile 6.5 in the the TP2? I have read thru many threads however no one address the most simple of questions or perhaps I'm just not understanding a crital step in the update process.
Where do you find the rom to install wm 6.5? And how to get the rom on to the phone? Oh and please don't point to [Resources] Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom (For Noobs) I have read that about 100 times.
If I find the correct rom, then what?
Is there a drag and drop process that I'm missing or do I have to reformat a file to RUU,NBH or EXE or somthing.
I have downloaded the CustomRUU, Rhodium-HardSPL and every version of wm 6.5 manilla type file I can find however I can't find the simple rom to upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5
I'm so confused and fustratiated that I am going to sell my TP2 and go back to the EASY iPhone (Jail Breaking was soo easy) or Blackberry Bold.
Please HELP. . . . I don't want to have to junk a phone that I want to keep
so youve had the hardSPL part already done i see.
now pick a rom and open that zip or rar file
in there are two files, drag and drop them on your desktop
now connect your phone with activesync or devicecentre to your computer
and make sure your phone is and stays connected
now double click on the RUU file from within the zip/rar file and follow the on-screen directions.
thats it.
hope this was helpfull
OK, I have followed your intruction to the letter and I have made progress. . . . . however I while following to prompts on the program (The Update Utility) I got the following error message:
ERROR [240]: file open
The Update Utility can not open the requested field.
Please check your Update Utility.
And on another attempt I got the to the end and nothing happend.
The last prompt said the following:
PDA PHONE UPDATE UTILITY 3.27.4.3
Verify that you want to update the Rom version
From
Image version:
To
Image Version: 0.85.OliNex
Click next to proceed: Click Cancel to quit.
. . . . I hit the next button and nothing happens. I still have WM 6.1
What am I doing wrong or am I missing a crital step?
Seems like I need the program to recognize the rom some how or mabe I'm way off.
I really do appreciate your help!
If you are using the CustomRUU.exe that comes with HardSPL, you cannot flash ROMs with it. That CustomRUU.exe is specially made for flashing HardSPL, and won't flash other stuff.
Try downloading this ROM (it's the one I use on my device, it's in my signature), and once it's downloaded, extract it using 7-zip/Universal Extractor/WinRAR or any other RAR unizipping utility. Ensure the directory that you extract the RAR file to has no other .NBH files in it. Now, run CustomRUU.exe (the one that comes in the RAR file) and follow the directions. Keep in mind that when it says what Image Version you are updating to in CustomRUU.exe, it should NOT say 0.85.OliNex.
Now, if that still doesn't work, try transferring RHODIMG.nbh to any MicroSD card (ensure it's formatted to FAT32), putting the microSD card back into the device, and manually go into the bootloader (Hold Volume-Down and the Power button). Follow the instructions, flash the ROM, soft reset (or yank out the battery) when it's completely finished, and congratulations, you're running Windows Mobile 6.5!
Hi fellas:
I just bot a used Touch Pro 2 with 6.1 for the wife for xmus.
Is it possible to use the HTC Rom that is listed on the EU site on a US HTC and then try to put it on Roger's 3G/Edge in Canada?
Thanks!
ok...I guess not
Is there another ROM that I would have better luck with?
My carrier (Rogers Canada) says that the 3G I have will not work on their network because it is T-Mobilized. The Edge Network is working (slow) and now I'm worried that this may never work on 3G here.
I read there is a vanilla "unlocked" 6.5 ROM here. Is that what I should be shooting for?
If you hardspl your device then you can put any rom on it that you want. Search, read and learn in the rom section.
From what i understand is that you bought a Touch pro 2 with T-mobile rom installed. So what you need to do is look in the rom section and read the flashing for noobs guide. Then pick a rom and flash. I think you will like the |R|6.5.3|ROM|WWE| ★ EnergyROM "Phoenix 2" 28011/21885 ★Dec 25★ Sense 2.1/Titanium. After you've flashed your T-mobile rom will be gone. Good luck
