While I was upgrading my XDA IIi to the latest ROM from O2 my computer crushed and now my XDA is dead.I can't turn it on.I have tried many thing even taking the battery off and it still does not turn on.Any solutions for this problem?
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=25390
Can not try this because it does not turn on at all.Did you mean full reset?
Are you saying that if you hold down the DPad (in the centre) and at the same time perform a hard reset, you don't get the Serial or USB 1.XX display on your device?
I don't get anything.The XDA doesn't power on.

sounds like its still stuck in mid upgrade, try and press power soft reset and the notes/voice record buttons at the same time, this worked on the last person i helped on this matter. then try and upgrade again. and close all programs before upgrade to prevent crashing again.

Ok, this is a slightly weird but VERY annoying issue..
Today I stopped being able to turn my TP2 on from standby.
What actually happens is when I push the power button, the phone activates, but the screen remains blank.
Pushing the volume buttons turns it up and down ( I can hear the tones)
Hang up and other buttons work ok.
The soft rest button does nothing.
Pulling out the battery restarts the phone, and the screen then works fine. Power button can then be used to turn the screen off, but will not turn it back on again
So long as I then keep the phone awake, all is well, as soon as it sleeps, I am back to the same situation.
Problem number 3 is that the Charging LED is no longer lighting up, but the phone is charging as normal.
I have hard reset the phone, and also flashed the latest WWE ROM from HTC, to no effect.
Charging LED is off even when the phone is shut down.
errrm...
Any ideas???

OMG, i am having the EXACT same issue. powerbutton will sleep phone but not initiate the screen to turn back on, openeing keyboard lights up the keys, closing lights up the buttons under the screen. Ive also hard reset etc.
Any help!?!?
I'm gonna try task29 and see what happens, could that be what caused it? Thats the only new thing ive donw
hmm, also noticed that when booting android, i get an error message: Something used micropkit_lcd_ctrl. This function should no longer be used.
Since the problem deals with the screen/sleep could this be a hint?
BTW: task29 doesnt help at all =[ cant anyone help?
Are you using Windows Mobile or Android?
Hard reset and see if the problem goes away.
running windows mobile and android. Cant boot into android because I receive that error message previously stated... Hard reseting doesnt help =[
Running WM, and I've done 2 hard resets and a ROM flash.
Interestingly enough, the last thing I did before having problems was to run up and play with the latest version of Android, using the cab install version.
Is there some code for that (perhaps used for the power button to intercept the press) that could be remaining in rom after the reset???
Clutching at straws here...
Ok, found this at the end of the Android thread:

thanks a lot, man!
this pretty much solves it - mines' also working now
Note: Flashing hard spl seems to have fixed mine too!
Hmm... could this HSPL also cause a problem with not connecting the device to PC? (device is not reckognized)
Hard SPL Reflash
Hey there, did you just reflash Hard SPL and evertything was fine? or did you hard reset and reflash your ROM also after reinstalling Hard SPL?
Thanks!

I just booted up into my current rom(firestorm) and didnt let it sleep, plugged it in and flashed hard-spl, and it works now!! So dont hard-reset, just flash over your current rom.
Hmmmmm...
Just out of interest (as I'm always updating and playing with android) which version screwed with the phone?
Although it seems to be resolved, I'd rather not have to go though the bother of re-installing HSPL
I was using the cab install version
Project Android 031710v2.cab
Just to note further, before using it I had not installed Hard SPL, nor had I flashed my TP2 to any official ROMS
Hello, someone can tell me how to do a soft reset to htc desire, there is some key combination or there is some software to do it?.
Thanks
keep the power button pressed for a longer time. a menu will be shown. select power down (phone will now shut down), press power button again. et voila! you have 'rebooted' your phone!
thank you very much but I do not work or do not
Any apps to do this ?

Uuhh.. What?
So is it at all possible to have an app that reboots the handset essentially?
There was an app on the market called quick boot I think, never used it myself but you could try that, although it may need root and the desire will probably be too new to work with it, so maybe one to keep an eye on.
Sorry for such a noob question, but the reply above, is that not simply turning the device.off and on again as opposed to rebooting, or carrying out a soft reset? Coming from an iPhone and wm before that, i was led to believe there was a difference. Removing the battery with the device on was a soft reset, rebooting the iPhone was also slightly different from turning it off and on again. ?
I would also like to know if we could do a soft reset without having to take back cover off and remove battery?
Thanks
I have to take back cover of my Desire to reset it. Turning off doesn't work in my case. Simply - last time I was waiting 15 minutes and it still displaying 'shutting down'. I can't shutdown my phone.

I think you didn't catch what we are talkin about. Soft reset doesn't meen we would like to erase all data and revert back to factory settings.
My phone is not able to shut down even after one hour after pressing: power botton for a moment -> power off. Any clues?

Strange indeed soft reset works here fine but used it only a few times
Maybe a hard reset forces to reinstall the o/s correct and solves you're problem because it should work via the power button...
Do you get the pop-up menu with the different choices?

what the hell are you people talking about?
a soft reset is a way to restart the phone using an option in the phone, perhaps an app
so when there's the option to POWER OFF the phone, there is the option to RESTART the phone

I got the popup menu when I press power button for a while but when I press first option to shut down the phone - it does not shut down. Shuting down message displays for ages and nothing happens.

Sorry, I think I got it wrong. D-fens - what you have done is fine, taking out the battery, judging by htc website
htc.com/europe/howto.aspx?id=721&type=1&p_id=312
but I don't know why wouldn't it shut down with power button, it works fine with my.
I think I know what your trying to get at, the problem is in your phone, unmount your SD card, I suspect its faulty. This will I suspect work. Try it and tell us how you get on. I'm assuming switching the phone off and on again is the same as rebooting or soft reset on Android.
Lol mega fail answers. I think currently there is no way to soft reset your phone without going the long way of turning it off and turning it on again. Quite annoying I know, but you should not have to soft reset your phone much at all, if you do then there is a prob with software etc. I have only soft reset my phone maybe 2-3 times in the few weeks I have had it for.
But again I believe the question is:
Is there an app or some special way to soft reset the desire, without removing battery or without pressing and holding power button and selecting turn off, as both these methods simply turn the device off and are not actually resetting the device...
Use quickboot or root boot. I personally use root boot. Works fine.
Hi everybody, I really need help.
I have tis problem:
Occasionally and in the last period more often my phone does not exit from standby mode when I press the power button. It a press it several times and also press the volume buttons in the end it starts. The button is functional because when I press it the buttons on the bottom of the phone lights up, but the display doesn’t.
I have the original rom and already done a factory reset but same problems. Also from time to time when it starts in the end after several tries the display starts to flick.
Android Version 4.0.4
HTC Sense version 4.1
Software number 2.17.401.2
Any idea what to do
Please Help!!!!

This happened even in 5 minutes after factory reset.
I've had issue with the screen with a delayed start. Mine is not that servier though. I if it is that bad, I suggest you exchange the phone. If you don't want to exchange it, you can always take the dive to rooting, although BE WARNED, this does void the warranty so if it doesn't fix the problem, you're out of luck. I hope this helps

Hi there, this is my first post, i didnt want it to be like this but i have come to you in desperation.
I was excited about 4 hours ago to realise my phone was getting an update saying it was going to imporve battery life etc..
Well i let it do its thing while it was downloading, i went to check after an hour or so and it said the software had been corrupted or something along those lines, either way it had to start the download again.
It was about bed time when this happened so i chucked it on the charger, fell asleep, woke up and it was doing something on a kind of screen i had never seen before, black screen, obviously showing that it is processing the update(i was a little tired from waking up) i think i remember taking its time maybe longer than it should have been.
I went back to sleep woke up about an hour ago from now and checked my phone and the screen would not turn on, i think the charger cable had fallen out from the phone because it is loose and does that some times.
So i placed the cord back in and it didnt seem to respond with the red led coming up for a while then all of a sudden it worked for some reason, but was flashing. i suspected this was because the battery had been sucked dry. So after a while the led stopped flashing and i pressed the power button, sure enough it powers up straight away to the HTC - quietly brilliant screen. And thats that, end of story. It's stuck on that screen WTF?
I have been through forums like these interested in changing ROMs and so on but it all seems so complicated i never even bothered, so obviously i am a noob, but i dont think there is any reason for this to happen other than sh*t luck.
Can anyone help us out?
Your better off sending for repair unless you want to start unlocking the bootloader etc.
Reboot your phone in bootloader ( press PowerButton + Volume down at the same time) you will get to a screen with various lines, look factory reset, navigate that menu with your volume keys. Hit factory reset you should get . See if it fixes it.

Well did it work? before you say that long thanks
Thanks for your help, unfortunately, the factory reset didnt work.
What happened when i first did it, the update screen came up like the first time but still ended up freezing on the quietly brilliant screen.
I'd be willing to unlock the bootloader, i really dont want to send the phone away for a third time. Why didnt i get the Galaxy S3!?!?!
I hate to ask, can u point me to the right thread to do that, there seems to be a few but they seem to have different purposes.
Thanks again.

If you wait a day or so, the RUU will be released for your region now that the OTA has been released.
You'll be able to fully reload your phone - this is all HTC do when you send it for repairs and you can do it in a lot less time.
At the moment, HTC may even reload the 2.17 software so you may still have the problem again when trying to load the OTA.
Thanks all for your interest.
I spoke with customer support and they told me exactly what i already had done, factory reset through hboot.
After that was a no go, he told me i have to send it back to the point of sale, so they can flash the software?
Where can i find this ruu once it has been released?
I'm pretty sure the updates all say to not have the phone plugged in when updating.

I bought a Samsung Glide i927 phone last month in the US, i bought it unlocked as i am from argentine, and i wanted to use it with movistar.
Recently the phone started to crash a lot, by that i mean that the screen starts going white, with horizontal lines and pixels of different colors appearing, then just turn off or restarts itself, only to crash again as soon as it starts an then turns off.
When this happens i try to start the phone and select the shut down option myself to see if the next time it starts it doesnt crash. But sooner or later it happens again.
This problem its happening too often, and not while doing something in particular like running an app or something. Sometimes it crashes just by plugging it to the power adapter, it even shows the white screen with the lines instead of the charging battery image when i charge it while turned off. I have already try to fix it upgrading android or doing a factory reset, but that didnt work.
Anyone have any idea of how to resolve the problem, or if its a hardware malfunction that cant be fixed?
To make things more difficult, as i said earlier im from argentine, and i cant go to AT&T or Samsung to get it fixed or get a replacement. English is not my first language, so please forgive my orthographic mistakes.
Thanks
This really sounds like some hardware problem, but to be safe, learn how to use Odin and use it to revert your phone to completely stock condition (cleaner than factory reset).

I tried to do that, but the first times when Odin try to reboot the phone it just freezes and i have to unplug it. After many tries it finally finished, but the phone keeps freezing and crashing.
The phone even crashes while turned of and conected to the power adapter.
Do you think that with LiteROM 0.9.0, that might fix this issues?
I've got reboots too, try to disable auto brighness
It helps for me

Power button issue
I am having a similar problem. At first, it just happened on rare occasions. However, today, it started doing it repeatedly. The phone was unusable. I did some checking around, and it appears that the power buttons on Samsung phones are prone to sticking. Some people suggest you actually remove the battery and slam the power button against a table. I wasn't going to do that, because I could just see it doing even more damage. What I did instead was firmly tap the power button repeatedly. It seemed to unstick the power button and allow the phone to function again.
Another alternative is to have the power button replaced, but that might be a hassle.
First of all, sorry for my bad english.
I bought it on amazon a few days ago, I have the same problem...
I thing aznemesis is right, because my power buttom is very sensitive, in fact, some times, when I press the button smooth and fast, to turn off the display like, the typical menu appears as if I had pressed the button for much longer period. Which proves your theory. The problem is if I hit the button over a table and the button breaks here in Chile do not exist spares of the terminal
Well, I did. I couldn't stand the desire to do so. After nearly 18 hours, the terminal isn't rebooted again.

The horizontal lines on the screen sound as if it is an overheating issue. What were you doing before your phone shut off? Are you using the factory charger?
cure found
take the battery out...blow on the power button with some compressed gas to get the dust out....then pour a drop of silicone based lubricant on the power button so that most of it gets in the gaps...then hit the power button a few times....haven't had any reboots since then
