Hi, i just got an XDA IIs and have been reading up as it does seam to crash regually. and i heard that removing the o2 active peice of crap helps. but i cant find anywhere how to do it?
Cheers Paul
The best way to get rid of O2 active is to hard reset, when the screen apears asking "PRIVATE OR CORPORATE" install select corporate then enter 0506 in the password field.
If you do this back up your phone and address book to the SD card, before you hard reset - do not try to re-install all your programs etc from back up following the hard reset, as doing this re-loads part of the rubish you are trying to get rid of - believe me if you do this it really screws up the handset - I tried it - wouldn't charge in the car, kept locking up etc. The sooner you do the hard reset the easy it will be - less applications to re-load - good luck _ Mike
Hi all,
I to am trying this reset process with an O2 XDA, when it hard resets I am not getting the screen asking me for "PRIVATE OR CORPORATE", any ideas as to why?
Can someone also confirm the Hard Reset sequene?
Many thanks
Paul
what i do is, after the hard reset (and choosing personal) and having it do all its stuff, first, remove/disable all O2 stuff from the today screen (start -> settings -> today -> remove all the o2 stuff in both tabs).
then start -> settings -> remove programs, remove all the o2 active VR stuff.
probably a message will pop up, noting some directories it doesn't remove. after removal is done, just go to file manager, and manually delete those directories.
seems to remove it for me =)
Mackster, you only get about five seconds to select the mode you want, if you don't do anything it will install personel mode as default - Why O2 insist on puting this rubish on there badged machines is beyond me - it makes a nice bit of kit into rubish, Ive had no problems since getting shut of it, even O2 support by phone will tell you to take it off as the first line for most queries - Mike
Paul, the thing I did was hard reset, and when it gives me a warning that programs will be installed in 3 seconds, I did a soft reset. After the soft reset, it won't try to install the programs anymore. I think this gives you the CLEANEST install.
When I did the Corporate setup, it still installed the PDF viewer, blah blah... I would like to control what I put in my PDA, even if they are useful programs. Hope this helps.
Sam
Sorry to dig this topic up, but I was looking for a solution and came up with one myself and thought I'd post it incase it comes in handy for anyone else.
Right, to disable the O2 Active UI from running...
Code:
Programs -> File Explorer
- Go to \Windows\Startup (make sure you have \ not \\ at the beginning if entering a path name)
- Delete the "connections" program
Soft Reset
This should stop the little O2 icon from appearing in the taskbar. For completeness, you'll probably want to stop any of the other O2 apps from running as well...
Code:
settings -> today -> items
- untick o2aui
- untick clockinfo
- untick o2BatteryPlugin
- OK
Soft Reset (to be sure)
Personally, I like the battery plugin, because its actually quite practical. Anyway, if you want to completely remove the software, do as follows...
Code:
Programs -> File Explorer
- Go to \Windows\Fonts
- Delete or rename the xpdr_02 (font) file
Settings -> System -> Remove Programs
- Select the O2 active UI from the list and click remove.
The UI should now be removed. It will probably tell you that it was successful, though some directories remain. You can delete them manually if you wish, but they shouldn't matter.
If you need/want to re-install the O2 software, you can do so from the software CD provided with the XDA, or it may be still available from the add/remove programs menu in ActiveSync.
You'll have probably noticed there's quite a lot of programs in the \Windows\Startup folder. I'm not sure what all of them do, but I bet you can get better start up times by removing some of them. Be careful though!
Enjoy
Thankyou to all that helped me out.
Many thanks

remove O2aui
Hi there,
I have seen so many clever hints how to successfully remove the O2aui from the device that I wonder what's wrong with simply goint to settings/system/remove programs and remove Mobile Solutions SRL O2ActiveUI v... ?
Would this remove more functions that I actually need?
Thanks for your comments.

You guys are amazing.
That company HCT should put you people on a permanent retainer.
I can testify that 0506 works to stop the O2 interface program being installed.
My XDA is now O2-free, and my lady's XDA is running an Orange Pay-as-you-go card.
As good as we think the XDA is, it would be nowhere near as good without this board and forum. The only problem we have had is actually finding the tricks to use.
A sticky or a permanent post would be most helpful. You folks all know how to do things like Hard Re-sets and have forgotten the time when you didn't. Just those two simple things... a hard re-set and that 0506 trick... have profoundly enhanced my use and experience of my XDA.
BTW in case anyone is thinking of buying one, we got a Stowaway Portable Keyboard with one of our XDAs, and we think it's pretty good. You have to remember to turn off the IRD when you want to use the keyboard, but aside from that, it was a good addition for us.

You could try this;
Go to start-settings-today. Click the items tab. Remove any of the o2 stuff from there and okay back to the home page. Close the Active UI if it's still open. Do a soft reset and then go to remove programs and get rid of it.
Not 100% sure it'll work 'cause I don't want to test it (I like one of two of the Active UI features, although I disable it most of the time).
Try going to START|Settings|TODAY|ITEMS| and unchecking O2AUI
Any idea if there is a way to add personal application shortcuts into the O2AUI..?
I downloaded the LG Today plugin as i liked it very well it also works as promised by the developer! but i can not get rid of the two buttons no matter what!
i can understand from searching using the search function (so DONT accuse me of ignoring it) that you could get rid of it using a Reg Edit software but i have never dared to mess with my regisary (due to past experiances it reg on xp!)
Could Someone please tell or show me what to do!

so far i've found this:

ps: dont worry about changing your regisrty, just do things one step at a time and if you do mess it up theres alwasy the "hard reset" option.
update: ok found this registry editor. it runs on your pc and is a real time editor for the ppc registry (you can even do a full backup of your ppc registry). still trying to figure out how to remove the tray icons.

Hey pal, i've tried a few different things and found out that the prog in question is called o2c.exe (thats on my device anyway, maybe the same on the hermes). I found a thread that said rename the "o2c.exe" and replace it with "dciNobar.exe" renamed to 02c.exe, I tried this but it got rid of the soft keys (not what i wanted), so i just renamed 02c.exe to 02c_orig.exe (in file explorer), soft rest my device and hey presto no system tray, all that popped up was an error message saying it can't find o2c.exe or it is not trusted.
btw added these two little proggies (within zip) and my phone is now super sexy.

Hi, first post here. I finally replaced my 6 year old iPAQ 2210/2215 with an HTC Touch Pro 2 a couple of days ago. I'd appreciate advice on a few points please. Hope it's OK to raise multiple topics like this? I also posted to HTC forum yesterday but so far no replies.
1. I make/receive relatively few mobile phone calls so I prefer to use the TP2 in a rather similar mode to previously. IOW, more as a Pocket PC than a phone. Am I right that the Today screen cannot co-exist simultaneously with TouchFlo3D - it's one or the other?
2. Assuming that's the case, is there some way I can quickly restore the TouchFlo UI when I do need it? Or must I go through Settings > Today > Items and re-check that box (losing all my other checkmarks)?
3. I can get to most of the TouchFlo features anyway from the Today screen. But one at least has defeated me: that nice Weather program, which I like a lot. Any suggestions on how to build a shortcut to it please, even if not with the fancy animation?
4. I'm concerned to maximise battery life. I can turn off WiFi and Blutetooth. Is it possible to turn off GPS when I'm not using it?
5. I've so far not found a built-in backup tool (like iPAQ Backup). Is there one, or must I use a 3rd party tool like Sprite Backup?
6. Is there an executable somewhere on my TP2 that will rotate the screen please? When I add Pocket Plus to my Today screen, that has such a toggle tool under one of its tabs. But, despite having only just paid for Pocket Plus (which I've happily used for years on the 2210/15), I don't think I'm going to get on with this latest version, so I need an alternative rotate tool.
Sorry for what's turned out to be a rather long first post!

1. Completely right, but you can use SecondToday (freeware) as a shortcut to the "old" today screen.
2. See 1
3. Stay with the Today screen in combination with secondtoday
4. No, you cannot turn off the GPS, but what helps a lot is to put the band of the telephone fixed to GPRS, not UMTS/3G/HSDPA. That saves your battery a lot.
5. No there isn't, you must look for Sprite, SPB or sunnysoft backup.
6. Try Flip-it, it works automatically with your Gsensor. Otherwise look for Gyrator or ChangeScreen
Hopes it gets you going
Re backup software. dotfred.net's pimbackup is a handy tool to transfer personal info and can be scheduled.
I am using Second Today.. works great!! love it!! Just like you, can't live without the WM today screen.
Thanks all, appreciate the replies so far. Will try SecondToday. I'm still experimenting with Today plug-ins such as Pocket Plus and PocketBreeze.
I have another query but will post separately about it as it's an application problem.

Just to add.
GPS is turned off all the time unless an application is polling it.
So unless you leave the GPS test,GPSToday, Google Maps, Tomtom, iGo or whatever running, it will be off.

Thanks labbbby, that's good to learn. My main app is Memory-Map, which I use for planning walks (hikes) and recording them etc. On a 6 mile walk the other day I was a bit disappointed to find that my battery was down to about 50%. So extrapolating to a full day's trek (say 12-15 miles) it would be on the limit. Reckon I'll have to invest in a spare.

Try a search on SecondToday for other download sites, maybe you where unfortunate to get a faulty install file...
Hi,
- I would advice you to use TouchFloDetacher, works better than mToday or SecondToday AND it has an easy softkey changer so you can switch easily between TF and Today
- My favorite weatherplugin: WeatherBugDirect_PPC_VGA. Works great but maybe not fancy enough (?)
- Rotators enough: there is a cab somewhere on this forum that does it by changing some reg setting: is better because all the others (i think) are separate programs that need to be running in the background using up mem!
hope this helps a bit ... (still a TP2 beginner myself)

I feel I must correct others:
4.- yes, GPS is switched automatically off when no program listens to the virtual COM port that they see (the driver monitors it), and started when a program connects to it.
It is also switched off in suspend mode, if you would like to log track with PPC "off" - see my program at www.madhacker.org that changes the way the driver behaves.

Ron: Turned out to be down to my stupidity. I tried to execute SecondToday.CAB from my PC! Installed OK of course when done properly from Resco File Explorer on the TP2.
But can you help me get it working please? I first ran the CAB while in TouchFlo mode. Should I then see any evidence of it on the main screen (purple, with large digital clock)? I didn't see anything obvious so went to All Programs. There I found 3 relevant entries:
SToday Quit
SToday Settings
Second Today
I clicked the last and got an empty Today screen, with the left softkey 'Calendar' and no softkey on the right. I clicked that blank area anyway, as I couldn't find anything else, but that gave the error message "This file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found..."
That mention of a trusted certificate is puzzling. When installing from the PC desktop I've been getting an alert about that and clicking Yes to proceed. But when installing from this SecondToday.CAB that didn't happen.

Thanks Curehead. Not sure if you've seen my reply to Ron about SecondToday, but I'm having the same frustration with TouchFloDetacher! I'm sure it will turn out to be down to some basic mistake on my part.
I ran TFDetacher.CAB in Resco File Explorer while TouchFlo was on. Then, as I couldn't see any more direct way, in All Programs I found 'Hide TouchFlo' and clicked it. That gave me the error message "Unable to find TouchFlo Detacher Service". I also tried re-installing when in Today mode, but got into a similar mess there too.

AlCapone: Many thanks, I've duly installed GPSTweaker.exe which sounds exactly what I need!
If I've understood correctly this means that while using Memory-Map to record my walks I will be able to switch off (suspend) my TP2 to minimise use of the battery, yes? But I'm not clear how Mem-Map will still be tracking while the TP2 is suspended? Unless it does, there's not much point keeping GPS running?

Ron,
I started with Gyrator but I'm totally baffled as to how to set it up. I read earlier in an article about it something to the effect that "Install the MS.NET stuff and the CAB and it just works." Not here it doesn't.
After reset I got a sort of setup screen I didn't really follow so I opened the 'Events' window only to get a complex settings window that meant nothing to me. I'm not normally this dense! Is it meant to be understandable by mere end users rather than programmers/developers?
Is there a reasonably simple step-by-step on how to set it up you can point me to please?
I was hoping for a program that would simply install itself and then either automatically rotate every screen or let me do so at the tap of a command.
I'll try Flip-It now.
Edit:
Gave up on Gyrator and didn't try Flip It following further study. But instead I'm pleased to report that late last night I eventually got ChangeScreen working. The only one I found comprehensible!
BTW, its default was set not to rotate TouchFlo screens, so I had to change that. Why would that not be generally regarded as desirable please?

Hi all!
I've installed a new skin to my TP2 (that was a big fault) everything was going wrong..
All buttons are completley white, horrible loading animation, etc, etc.
Now I have restored nearly everything. The only problem is that my startmenu is now as the old windows mobile drop-down menu. I want to have my HTC application launcher back. I think that it is a simple register setting...
I've searched here but cannot found a solution.
Can anybody help me with this problem/setting?
Thanks is advance and sorry for my poor English!

there is a registry key that changes the start button and start soft button (top left) from opening the quick programs (manila shell) to the drop down menu (windows mobile default). can be found here:
HKLM\Software\EnlargeMenu
"EnableManilaStartMenu"
Change 0 to 1.
Hope that works. this is how I changed my quick programs to drop down menu (I prefer the drop down menu better).

Thanks for the replay,
I have searched for that register value, but cannot find it.
So I have restored some parts of the register (after a backup) in the HCT/Malia map and the HTC EnlargeMenu (In local machine and Current user). but still not working. it is already a '1' in there.
So my (simple?) conclusion is that there is a deeper problem.
Still missing other register values, or missing files that have to be somewhere to run that program menu...

hehe. I've hard reseted my phone at least 10 times since the last week I've had this phone. it's the only way to test out apps to find the right one that works for you. I do installs and uninstalls. eventually I will find an app that [email protected]#$ up my phone, or that works really well. this will be an on going process for at least 3 months until I find what to settle with. It was like that with my Mogul, and it will be like that even more so with the TP2 because it's such an awesome upgrade.
Hi all,
please excuse the vagueness of this post.
I have just been given a tp2 as a replacement to my td2
My wife also has the tp2 which she got a year ago
the whole look of the phone (software ) is totally diferent
for instance the program page used to list a few progs (your choice) and then you had to hit all progs to get them up.
i am guessing that its a different rom or different version of sense?
also how do i change/edit/remove some programs from the list?
cheers guys
you'll need a registry editor to get the job done here, you can find that in the Theme's and apps section, i'll be back with a link, but you have to navigate to --
HKLM\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu
and where you see
EnableManilaStartMenu = 1
change the one to a zero and restart the phone, should work.
thanks for that
sorry to be thick but does that just enable me to move the prog icons or delete the progs as well
appreciate the help

Different issues, my friend. Sense is the UI (aka Manila versions 2.1 and 2.5) you see when you start the phone. It is on by default, but you can turn it off in the Today setup and use the much less memory intensive standard Window Mobile screen. Go into the Today setup and turn off Sense by removing the check mark in the list and putting a check mark on Windows Default.
As for the bloatware that comes with the phone, anything on the ROM can not be removed except by flashing a new ROM. You can delete shortcuts from your start menu for programs you don't/won't use, but the programs will still be there. Do a search for Crud Scraper, a neat little tool that can 'remove' stuff from specific phone models (it worked great on my Tilt 2). Beyond that, read up as much as you can on modding your phone. This place is a great resource. Unfortunately, easy answers are hard to come by. You have to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty.
