have Cingular 8525 with upgraded ROM to WM6. Works fine for a long time.
Yesterday I tried to view my photos on flickr.com, and noticed that it was actually accessing the address m.flickr.com, which was the mobile version of the web site. But below, they had the link to view the full version of the same site. I wanted to use that instead, and when I clicked that link, and website was almost loaded, it closed by browser. I tried several times, and no avail.
I disabled proxy, switched to MY ISP instead of MEDIA NET network, and still cannot load the web page to the end. Actually, it is loading, but when I tried to scroll down using the arrow keys, this is when it fails.
Anyone tried to use it with success? Or maybe some suggestions. I must say that it happened to me before with some other sites, but I did not pay attention. But I use a lot flickr, and surely can use the mobile site, but it is not the same.
yeah. look on the wiki.
PIE identifies itself as a mobile browser. That is why it puts you on the mobile version of the site. There is a registry edit that will change your browser's apperance to the outside world to look like IE7.
Opera does this automatically I think. But I've enjoyed looking at mobile versions of most sites as it makes navigation a lot easier.
it is not the point that I cannot look at some site, it is the fact that it is closing the browser, like it crashes.
But maybe this just exhibits the behaviour you tried to explain.
Both browsers on my Tilt2 (IE and Opera) seem to have some serious problems where the screen is at times unresponsive or extremely slow. This seems to happen in 3G and Wifi.
Actually, I saw these types of problems in a review at: http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/cell-phones/htc-tilt-2/10602.html which said: "Nowhere did the HTC Tilt 2 give us more trouble than in the browsers. Both the standard Internet Explorer browser and the Opera Mobile browser gave us serious trouble, with an unresponsive screen that always took numerous taps to register a click on a Web link. It was a very strange issue, as finger scrolling was much more responsive. But when we wanted to click on a link, or when we wanted to tap the address bar to change our URL, the phone would require multiple taps, which was a seriously annoying issue."
Have others experienced this? Is the phone a complete lemon? Is anyone aware of a what could be wrong and/or a fix?
Experiencing the exact same thing.
At stock, don't expect the TP2 to run flawlessly, and this device is certainly not a lemon. Flashing a custom rom to this device improves its usability, and even functionality in some areas, But of course, it depends on the rom that is installed. It would help to scour these forums as there are numerous fixes and enhancements for the WM platform that'll make you enjoy it
I am not expecting it to run flawlessly. I assume, as you are with T Mobile, that you do not have the Tilt2. My experience with the Tilt2 is that both browsers are just non-functional given the complete lack of responsiveness. I understand that there are many things that can be done to it, but it seems like it should simply not be operating like this out of the gate. I would be pleased to do what I can to increase performance, but purchasing a new product that is not functional with the goal of enhancing performance should not be acceptable. Please understand, that out of the box when I click on a link many times it simply does not work and when it does, it often takes minutes to connect (in some cases worse than a throw back to dial-up connection speeds). If this is what Windows Mobile has come to, as a consumer device it really will continue to become obsolete with a very small user base. I am hopeful that it is not WinMo as I have had Pocket PCs since they came out and hope to remain faithfull.
That said, I have done a considerable amount of searching in the forum. If there is something you would recommend for this specific browser issue, I would very much appreciate the reference. Thanks.
While I wouldn't say that Opera is "unusable", it's definitely slow. I've read on the forums that Opera Mobile 9.7, which is currently in beta, seems to be significantly faster. Though, it lacks Flash if you care about that sort of thing.
I haven't tried it yet but it seems like a worthwhile shot.

Do any of guys use skyfire(this by far the best option), also check the proxy setup, Third just heads up, when I was selecting diferent option packages from ATT they initially screwed up my data connect and I was getting block out of there proxy, once this was corrected all is well but Skyfire is still the best released product.
Skyfire works, but its not very clear unless you zoom in. I have Opera beta but you can't use the zoom slider and its only marginally better.
Iris (God rest its soul) is okay but its not fast either. I wonders why none of them are cutting the mustard.

I prefer not to use Skyfire because it's completely insecure. I went to my fantasy football website and found some other user's session logged in. Had I wanted to be a jerk, I could have dropped all of his good players and replaced them with players from the Detroit Lions.
Seriously, though...if you use Skyfire be very careful what sites you visit as all of the data is rendered remotely and will be seen by others.
CAVEAT before I begin: I had pretty good connection with Opera (on 3G) out of the box.
As others have said on this thread, first thing is to disable the AT&T proxy (Start\Tools\Proxy Manager\Disable Proxy -- then soft reset), unless you want to use AT&T's Media Mall and other bloatware that requires an Internet connection.
In Opera the proxy still sticks unless you manually edit the opera.ini file. See this post here for instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4771442#post4771442
I had to do this, or Opera would not connect at all under Wi-Fi. Speed also seems to be improved.
It sounds, though, that you're speaking more about screen sensitivity. It seems that you have to zoom in more (than on a Fuze, at least) to get a link to actually respond when touched. This may sound simplistic, but note that when the Tilt2 boots up for the first time (or after hard reset), it does not run through the screen-alignment process as the fuze and other phones do. Go to Start\Settings\System\Screen and do the alignment -- it helped a bit on my phone. And every little bit counts...
SLLLLLLLLOW Browsing
I've very disappointed with the AT&T Tilt 2. I've tried several ROMs but the MS IE is slow in all of them. In some of them the Opera gets download speeds of over 1000 kbps. However, the MS IE is usually down around 300 kbps.
This is unacceptable. I used the same sim in my original AT&T Tilt 1 and I get 1200 kbps. What gives??

That's been my experience, too. Even with an excellent 3G connection (a megabit usually, or close to it, and sometimes better than that), and with the AT&T proxy disabled, both Opera and IE are utterly unusable on my Tilt 2 with WM 6.5.
And I can't blame Touch-flo. I don't even use it.
As a result, I run Skyfire as my default browser unless I'm in a place where I can't get a strong 3G signal. Then I switch to Opera Mini. Both are fast enough to keep me very happy.
I've wasted too much time trying to get Opera to do anything other than annoy me. Try some cooked ROMs, or switch. Otherwise, you're wasting your time.
i agree
I dont even bother to tap the links anymore, i navigate through them using the arrow keys and then press enter. I find them completely unresponsive to taps.
concur that the browsers suck
Too bad that there isn't a safari port....

just bought mine yesterday and it is un-usable taking 20-30 min. to access and sign into my ebay account is pretty much un-usable. My 8925 wasn't the fastest but I coud access the web w/o taking 2-5 min per page. I took my iphone back thinking this would be atleast as good as or better than my 8925,boy was i wrong. And now they tell me I only get one return(iphone) so I am stuck with this beautiful p.o.s.

i also experience problem with it. My experience seem to be that if I have both IE and opera running together, it will cause the unit not responsive. So far, I kind of stuck with IE as it seem to work better than opear.
Try the Opera 10 Beta, it is masses better than Opera 9 as far as interface experience and speed. never liked IE mobile and skyfire has potential but still feels unfinished.
Opera 10 has a really nice tabbed browsing system and is finger friendly. haven't seen any responsiveness issues. The other thing to consider is what else you are running in background, is Opera 9 still running in background? it could be slowing everything else down.
BRETT
i have a TP2 on TMo and i am just not seeing why things have to be so difficult to take care of basic stuff. i have had my TP2 for a few 3 weeks and am not liking how the wifi, touch sensitivity, and browser function. I got my hands on a iphone 3gs 32gb and used it for the last week. There are HUGE differences between the phone and am amazed that there is. I was using their "safari" brower here on my wifi home network and it was flying and screens formed fast for being a hand held device. I switch back to the TP2 and it was about a third of the speed. WHY!!!! I have skyfire and opera on the phone and they both acted the same way. what is so annoying is when you go to scroll a page it has no clue how to remember how the page looks and does the little grey and white checker board.
I don't understand why the touch is sooooo much better on the iphone than the TP2. i could actually type somewhat normal better on the iphone than on the TP2. it reads the touch great and with very few errors. when i go to the contacts i can flick up or down and it actually scrolls. i do the same action on the TP2 and most of the time it dials the number at where i tried to flick the list.
why are they such differences in performance and how to i correct these differences.
i have the energy rom ...latest one
There's no way to "correct" the differences.
What you are experiencing regarding the touch sensitivity is a capacitive screen versus a resistive screen. If you understand how a resistive screen works, and adjust accordingly, then scrolling is just as smooth. Just apply a bit of pressure.
Safari browser is indeed fast. But Opera is not too shabby. Consider this. Opera does real-time text reflow. I'm almost positive that this is one of the factors that hinders the performance. However, I'd still rather have real-time text reflow. It's better than on the Safari where you have to pan horizontally and vertically if you zoom in to the text.
If you understand the differences and you still can't live with them, then this device is probably not for you. Better return/exchange it while you can.
i didnt know there were dif kinds of screens.. how do you adjust them in the manner you state
With resistive touch like on the TP2 you have to apply a little bit of pressure. I have a friend who just got the iPhone 3GS and I don't see/feel much difference between he's capacitive screen and my resistive screen. It's all about feeling and technique, seriously.
Here's a little read about resitsive and capacitive from Wikipedia:
Resistive
A resistive touchscreen panel is composed of several layers, the most important of which are two thin, metallic, electrically conductive layers separated by a narrow gap. When an object, such as a finger, presses down on a point on the panel's outer surface the two metallic layers become connected at that point: the panel then behaves as a pair of voltage dividers with connected outputs. This causes a change in the electrical current which is registered as a touch event and sent to the controller for processing.

Capacitive
A capacitive touchscreen panel consists of an insulator such as glass, coated with a transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide (ITO).[2][3] As the human body is also a conductor, touching the surface of the screen results in a distortion of the local electrostatic field, measurable as a change in capacitance. Different technologies may be used to determine the location of the touch. The location can be passed to a computer running a software application which will calculate how the user's touch relates to the computer software.

It should give you a good idea of how the two types of screens work and why you have to use different methods in order to get most out of resistive screens.
I have to agree, the iPhone's touch screen is flawless in operation.
Just my 2 cents .......

it was so sweet playing with one for the week. now i understand the difference and it will run the phone accordingly.
is there a way to make the keypad for the dialer full screen so typing numbers will be easier and faster?
how do i move icons around to different pages. i hate i cannot just hit one button to get to the dialer. i have to do 3 steps to get to the dialer and it is stupid since this is a PHONE to make calls.

Sounds like iDialer is what you're looking for if you want a full screen keypad.
What 3 steps are you taking to get to the dialer? Just press the call button? Also the left soft key on the home tab of also gets you to the dialer.
From my vantage point I see 5 issues:
1. As stated above, you need to learn the differences between the screen technologies.
2. You need to use the TP2's hardware keyboard. No onscreen keyboard can compare.
3. If you want a hamstrung, entertainment device, feel free to migrate to an iphone. If you want a relatively open device with depth and breadth, take the time to learn the Win Os. It does take some time to learn, but once you do, you realize how much of a toy many other devices are.
4. You don't seem to be aware that ATT's network has been optimized for and gives preference to iphones. Not to mention that many sites have special pages cleverly and clandestinely optimized for the iphone. They look in many ways like the real thing and you think that you are getting the "full web," but alot of functionality is missing.
5. Most important, and no disrespect to all the chef out there, you are using a cooked rom. These roms promise a great deal, but in the long run most fail to deliver because they introduce more problems than they solve.
I have handled the iphone fairly extensively and it is a good device in its own right. I has a really easy and intuitive interface but it is in a different and lower class than the TP2. It is meant for casual users who use their phones primarily for entertainment. It is really a dressed up feature phone and not a true smartphone.
I use my smartphone (TMobile TP2) for entertainment and for business from VPN client to Wifi internet access router to remote desktop to watching movies to email to GPS to document creation (incl. powerpoint slideshows and spreadsheets) to games (incl. many kinds of emulators), all with free software! Nowadays, I hardly ever have to pull out my netbook. My phone is nimble and loads web pages incredibly fast. At home in VA, I get between 500-600 kbps on avge, up to about 900kbps on a good day. I was in NYC this weekend and got 1260kbps fairly consistently. How's that for performance? Can an iphone do all that?
Bottom Line: Learn Win Os or even Android, you'll be more satisfied in the long run and at the very least you won't be captive to Steve "Jesus" Jobs whims.
my last phone was a G1 with droid and it was neat on the web pages. what browser are you using which you are getting lightning speed. i have an N router at home on cable internet. I wifi to it and it is the lowest loading pages i have ever seen on a phone. My G1 outran it and the iphone just smoked all above. i have opera, skyfire, and IE on the phone...what do you suggest to get the most out of it?
and yes i agree i have to learn the phone and all the info on this post has been extremely helpful and gave me a HUGE understanding of what i am running.

I find Opera Mobile 9.5 and 9.7 performance to be underwhelming at first. But I find that disabling java-script helps significantly. Most sites that I visit don't need java-script for me to see the content anyway. And disabling it, means I block a lot of ads from loading.
You can also try Opera Mobile 10 which is in beta right now. It's pretty quick in my experience. But I personally settled back for 9.7 because of it's flexibility in terms of zooming in and out of pages.
Troubleshooting Internet Speed
1. Make sure the rom/you are not running any memory hogs. Push Internet is a notorious memory-sucking monster: disable it. Ideally, your TP2 should have under 50% ram usage when you boot up and ensure you refresh the memory every few hours. CleanRam does this beautifully and automagically.
2. Double-check that you are in fact getting a 3G signal and operating at 3G speeds. Use mobilespeedtest.com or dslreports.com/mspeed to test. Anything less than 500 mbps might indicate a problem.
3. How many bars do you have? 3G requires a strong, quality signal. You might want to contact ATT to ensure that you have the correct sim and provisioning for your line and for this particular phone. (This last point is based on my experiences with ATT in the past. My phone, for some unknown reason, was ignoring the tower nearby. This may be a long shot but might be worth it.)
4.Consider flashing back to a stock ROM to see if anything improves.
5. Make sure you are using the latest versions of the various browsers. Have you tried the latest opera mini, opera mobile, or skyfire browsers? Stay away from IE; it really stinks! I get terrific results using skyfire because of the fact that it is essentially a thin client where all the necessary processing is done server-side.
6. When using opera mobile check its settings via opera:config or opera:about to make sure it is not searching for a proxy server.
7. If you are close to a major metropolitan area, use google's dns servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. This is a long shot, but when I was in NYC I did see an overall improvement of latency.
8. Check to see if wifi improves the problem. If not, check router settings. Have you tried optimizing for performance rather than for battery/neutral in wifi settings on the phone? The TP2 can only connect to g and b networks. A or n are irrelevant to its operation.
9. What sites are you trying to access? Websites do have special scaled down pages for the iphone and increasingly for android phones. You might want to spoof the user agent on your device. Essentially, this makes the website "think" that you are using a different device. The upside about using the user agent settings as is is that you do get more of the internet the way you would experience it on a desktop. That's also its downside. By trying to eat too much of the internet, the browser can choke the system. Remember, the TP2 has a 528 MHz processor and memory in the MBs, not GBs.
10. Make sure the cache, history, and cookies are cleared before testing. Corruption in any of these three areas can compromise page rendering.
I've been watching youtube videos via the app and skyfire and video news from AP.org via skyfire and have not had a hiccup. So I know this device has a sufficiently good internet capabilities.

Awesome information.
once i read the title of this thread, all i could this was: "that's what she said."

11. Check to make sure you are using the correct APN. Some APN's have known speed and port limitations. Get that info from your carrier.
Can someone please tell me how -- or point me to an existing thread that will provide instructions for how -- to get AT&T's Tilt 2 to use wi-fi?
My situation is that I'm new to the Tilt 2, and I'd like to be able to access wi-fi -- rather than the slower than molasses 3G network -- when I'm within range.
My network is wired with a WAP, and it uses static IP addressing. I have no problem accessing the network with my (old) 8525 and my (newer) iPhone or my PDA or my laptop (all configured by me) to use my network to access the Internet and email.
My network is pretty tight (I think, or hope) in that it requires a specific IP address that matches a specific MAC address to gain access.
I've configured my router & WAP to accept a specific IP address for the Tilt 2, as well as the Tilt 2's MAC. I've checked & rechecked too many times to count to make sure I didn't make any typos. I've assigned the IP address on the Tilt 2 by going to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Wireless Networks > Network Adapeter, and I set the Boradcom 8-2.11 DHD Newwork Adapter (is that the right one?) to use the specific IP addy I've assigned.
However, while the wi-fi icon indicates it's connected, I'm unable to use either browser on the Tilt 2 to access the Internet -- all I get are error messages.
I have honestly tried to read here for tips, and while I've read that I need to disable the AT&T proxy, the threads I found were a little (or a lot!) over my head.
I would sincerely appreciate any guidance.
TIA,
Saundra
Please, Need Help with Wi-Fi Settings
Surely I'm not the only one having problems getting the settings right so my AT&T Tilt 2 can connect to a home network, am I?
Honestly, I'm not a moron, but I can't figure it out, and the AT&T store was no help today, either. I recall that I had a similar problem with my 8525, so I went back & looked at my notes from 2008-- the problem was the MEdia Net proxy settings. On the 8525, it was a simple matter to uncheck the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" box.
On the Tilt 2, however, I can't see where to give that a try because all I see is a message that says, "This connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified."
Am I looking in the wrong place, or what? Or is that unlikely to be a problem on the Tilt 2?
I will greatly greatly appreciate any suggestions to try!
TIA
My first question is, are your WiFi router and the wifil on the TP2/Tilt the same? If the router is g and phone is N, they won't communicate.
That's a good question, and one I'd not thought of. My WAP supports B, G, & N & is operating in B/G/N mixed mode-- I don't know what the Tilt 2 is, but I'd think one of the three would cover it, yes?
Try going to this thread and downloading the files in post #13. Run the remove hidden proxy cab and see if that works, that will remove the hidden AT&T proxy server setting that often can't be disabled otherwise. The Tilt2 supports 802.11 b/g, so a router in mixed mode should have no trouble with that. You might try playing around with the network adapters again; I'd personally take another stab at the DHD adapter you tried earlier, since that is the one used on wlan connections. Also, you should probably make sure that the box which says: "My network card connects to:" is set to The Internet, and not work (this setting can be found on the Network Adapters tab of the Wi-Fi applet.
And while a bit off topic, you might want to consider adding additional security on your router (such as WPA2 encryption) if MAC filtering and static IP addresses are your only security; it's quite easy to grab both using free tools like aircrack-ng.
I want to thank you for your suggestions, but I'm not having any luck so far.
Scratch that -- things seem to be working . . . kind of. All I did was keep redoing the same things over & over, and suddenly, things are working.
I'm starting to think, though, that there's something wrong with this particular phone. Seriously -- I did nothing different tonight to get wi-fi working . . . encouraged by your comments, I just kept doing the same things over & over & over that I did last night.
Last night, running the removeHiddenProxy4CWS cab (it's in the Tools folder) resulted in not being able to connect to the Internet via 3G or wi-fi. Tonight, the results are different: I'm able to connect to the Internet via both after having run for the umteenth time the removeHiddenProxy4CWS file.
Further, while I've read many comments that the Internet is really slow on the Tilt 2, I'm thinking mine is abnormally slow & seems to hang up even via wi-fi. Now, I'll admit that perhaps my expectations are different coming back from an iPhone, but I charged up my old 8525, turned off the phone on the Tilt 2 to make sure I was connecting via wi-fi, and we are talking agonizingly slow on the Tilt 2 -- I was able to browse to six different Web pages on the 8525 in the time it took the Tilt 2 to partially bring up the first page (I used the same starting page on both). And, I say "partially" because it seemed to hang up at only partially displaying the Web site until I eventually hit the little circle in the bottom right of the screen. It does that on lots of pages -- is that the way things usually work on the Tilt 2?
Also, after my last soft reset just before things started working, I got a memory error message after I turned on wi-fi & when I hit the Internet button -- I should have written it down, but it said something about being out of memory on line 2. Any suggestions about that?
If the above are normal experiences for the Tilt 2, then I'll start learning about the tweaks to improve speed & such. If not, then I guess I need to try to exchange this phone. <sigh>
I also really appreciate your a bit off topic comment because I'm a security freak but not sure I understand much! My WAP uses WEP 64-bit encryption in addition to the MAC filtering & static IP addresses, and my wired router has a firewall -- does that sound sufficient. None of my neighbors can "see" my network, and it can't be seen from the nearest public road -- does that sound relatively secure?
Most of your Tilt2 problems could be fixed by flashing a custom ROM. If the phone is a business phone (as in it belongs to your company) or you otherwise can't void the warranty, a custom ROM sounds about right. It will improve the device's speed on all fronts, and will also have more available memory on bootup (mine had 25% less RAM in use on startup with a custom ROM). On my Tilt2, using a custom ROM with the latest Manila 2.5 build, things are still quite snappy, and pages load quickly on 3G and EDGE. If you'd like to know how to put a custom ROM on your device, this link will tell you everything you need to know. If you decide to put a custom ROM on your device, keep in mind you'll lose all the data on your device if you don't back it up.
As for the wireless security: WEP is extremely insecure. It has been proven insecure for many years, and has been replaced with the WPA (okay but obsolete now) and WPA2 (best current router security) protocols. Cracking WPA/WPA2 is much more difficult, as it requires a password cracking program and a wordlist to crack downloaded traffic obtained from the network, which can take days of cracking, sometimes ending in failure regardless. Unlike WPA/WPA2, WEP is much more vulnerable to many different attacks, from programs like aircrack-ng, which are free and readily available. If you don't believe me, check out this video of WEP being cracked on a test router, with the Backtrack 4 Beta security Linux distro, in as little as 2 minutes. MAC addresses and IP addresses can also be grabbed with many readily available tools, and the MAC can then be spoofed quite easily with free programs. And even a hidden SSID can be grabbed with a program like Kismet, which scans all wireless network traffic in an area (regardless of the network it's on) and can grab the hidden router's SSID during the handshaking process (when a client computer connects to the router). If you're absolutely positive that your network can't be detected from any public road (as in, there's no signal whatsoever), you're probably okay and can probably sleep safe at night. But, unless you have old equipment/software which doesn't support WPA2 or WPA, I'd recommend upgrading to the latest WPA2 security (if you're really concerned about security/privacy).
I really appreciate your help!
The Tilt 2 is a week old -- it was a birthday present. Am I correctly understanding that I could flash a custom ROM & then flash back the original if I don't want to void the warranty?
If so, playing with different ROMs would be something I'd be interested in doing . . . I just don't want to void the warranty in case there is something wrong with the phone. I had lunch with a friend with an AT&T stock Fuse (I think) Thursday, and we were playing with each other's phones. I can't say that I noticed her Internet was any faster (I wasn't really paying attention), but she was quite surprised that both IE & Opera failed to display a complete page until the screen was touched. On my end with her Fuse, Web pages opened completely with no fuss.
So, the whole "hang" thing makes me very nervous, particularly with the "out of memory" error message with nothing other than Contacts on the phone yet -- I've not even bothered to configure email (my lifeline). I was hoping the Web interface (I have IMAP) would work OK since that was one of my big beefs with the iPhone -- the onscreen keyboard just didn't work for me. But, with The Tilt 2 taking over 60 seconds to even get to my web-based Inbox, the Tilt 2 is gonna be a problem unless I can get that resolved. Hence my concern about not voiding the warranty.
You are correct: I do have older equipment that only supports WEP. My PDA & my old 8525. If I can get the Tilt 2 working well enough for me, I can rotate the older stuff out and go with stronger wireless security. I know my neighbors can't "see" my network, but I've never tested from the street behind my house since the closest neighbor behind can't see the network. However, due to the configuration of my neighborhood, I'd best check that street. <gulp>
Thanks again -- I really appreciate the help.

Sure, I'm glad I can help. Well, you're partially correct about the whole ROM thing. The deal is, your warranty is only voided if they know you put a custom ROM on it. If they don't find out (ie, you restore the ROM and SPL to their stock counterparts) you're good to go. However, you do technically void the warranty because you put a third party ROM. However, you can take it from me when I say it's almost 100% safe when you follow instructions and it's completely worth it. You get more features and stability with less bloat while using an unofficial ROM. Keep in mind that if the USB port goes bad, you can't restore the device to stock configuration, and you'll have to pay full price for repairs (unless you dispute the warranty violation in court, and try to prove that there's no way an unauthorized ROM broke the USB port). Otherwise, a custom/cooked ROM is completely worth it, and will greatly improve your whole experience over the stock ROM.
Just a quick one - I am using a branded orange desire handset straight out the box (no modifications at all). I have downloaded a few different browsers and to give them a bit of a road test I have been trying to access anything on the iplayer through the url bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
A couple obviously just cannot handle it, but Skyfire for example appears willing to load the programmes but then they get blocked when it tells me 'not available in your area'. Just to confirm I'm bang in the middle of the UK and can access on my desktop pc which is on the same wifi network. I get the same message when trying to access through orange 3g.
I have seen old posts about the now disappeared beebplayer which clearly looks like the decent option if available, but I was just wondering if anyone is getting a feed of any kind through a browser (not worried about quality at this stage) or if the error message I'm getting is consistent with everyone else.
Live tv feeds through m.tvcatchup.com work through 3g but not my wifi for some reason (have tried all of the above with wep, wap and no security at all btw).
Although I've read in a few places that theres no way of getting the iplayer on desire right now, I thought the flash capabilities of skyfire would allow it, even if very poor quality, which has left me wondering if my router is actually the knackered piece of kit here?
Any ideas - sorry, I know it's a bit of a long one.
to maybe put this question a bit simpler now I've had some sleep - can anyone out there view, for example the bbc iplayer, through any browser installed on their desire? Or should I not be concerned by being told I am not in the UK because this is the error message its spewing out because it basically can't handle iplayer at the moment under any browser?
There is no way yet to watch on iPlayer through the browser on the Desire.
If you install android 2.2 froyo you can install flash 10.1 beta from the market, but still iPlayer is completely awful quality, and totally unwatchable.
Your best bet is beebplayer, which is pretty bad quality, just google beebplayer.apk and download it.
