Hi just to let you know, TomTom have just released their upgrade from either TomTom Navigator 2 or 3 to Navigator 5. This can be found on their website.
It costs 59 Euros and your getting the whole of europe on cd plus the new software interface.
I've just ordered my copy. Lets hope it doesn't take 5 weeks to arrive
It can be found here..

Cheers,

When its says maps for the "whole of europe" I'm pretty sure this is the "major roads of europe" we had on tt3. Anyone who's used this, and I have, will know its pretty crap unless you will only ever travel on motorways and the bigger 'A' roads. I was in northern France and ended up junking it and going back to a proper map.
JD
personally, I disagree. It isn't 'dust road through an orchard' perfect, but it is a hell of a good (free) tool, which just got me door to door 1530 miles through three countries (including ferry crossing) without a hiccup.
just a thought.
BTW, Still can't access TT5...
Yeah I agree. Bloody good bargin for 40 quid!!!!!
Regarding the upgrade link, if you go to www.tomtom.com or the link above, they are doing maintence work to their website, no doubt to put a direct link on the homepage or something. Keep checking. I orderd mine this morning, so its def released
By the way the link is working again now...

Cheers.
Has anyone actuallt either eceived their upgrade yet or had confirmation it has been despatched by UPS?!?!
Mine still states "warehouse"
Mine still says 'Warehouse'
Does yours still state warehouse?!?!
Yes. Just checked.
Does anyone know when they are going to be released as many people have actually received their upgrades!!!!!
Can someone ring TomTom direct?!
Cheers,
lydiachris
Mine has now shipped - delivery by UPS within 1-2 days

I'm sorry to go on about this but I'm anxious to help save any one else the hassle that I'm going through!
Please think twice before buying tomtom's pathetic navigator gps.
My BT GPS mouse has now failed, I have a few days off and so far after 4 days I have not managed to get any reply phone or e-mail. you will get similar 'customer support'
WHILE I'M TYPING THIS I'M IN A QUEUE TRYING TO TALK TO A TOMTOM SUPPORT PERSON (AS I HAVE BEEN FOR HALF AN HOUR ALREADY!)
There are no instructions, not even basic, their discs are not labelled except for nos 1-8 (yes! 8 cd's & you try finding the part of the map you want & you need a navigator to find your way around the discs)
They sell you it with your local country's map, then they sell you you country maps again on maps of western europe, why not sell it as a kit with western europe in the first place
If, like me, you cross Europe via many different countries you'll be more knackered from the moronic tomtom setup than you'll be from the journey! :?
My GPS mouse has packed up, I've e-mailed but no response, there are no contact no's for UK offices, warranty agents or addresses, you have to phone Holland & wait in a queue for about an hour. their web based support page mirrors their product, inadequate!
Now there is a newer V3 which you can buy if you're daft enough, but owners of V2 are being made to wait for the privilege of paying for an upgrade! Ye Gods!!!
I have typed this with 1 finger & I'm still on hold :?
@ this rate I'm going to end up going to their Dutch offices personally as it seems impossible
Hey, .
You need to buy the maps for Holland
by looking at the date of the post, I guess Chop got it sorted out (or has dropped out completely)
When is this coming out in the UK. Have phoned several shops in my area and they have never even heard of it DER
Im sick of waiting for it. T mobile are just so slow at releasing anything. Why is this.

I like it, it's a nice pda, but I haven't had a chance to properly test it so I couldn't recommed it just yet.
Im on the phone right now to t mobile. Only been waiting for 25 mins listening to some crap music.
@stand
Can u post some pictures of your Compact III ? & it's package !
Hi, does the UK T-Mobile MDA Compact III have wi-fi? I'm asking this question, because the German T-Mobile version doesn't have built-in wi-fi, but the Dutch version has it
Ordered my compact iii direct from t mobile today
It does state on t mob website that it is wifi. I do hope so.

I hope u can post some picture of it's package & photo's of device !
No longer compact 3 is listed on t-mob site .

Ordered mine today for delivery tomorrow. I could have queued up in the Oxford St. store but decided that it'd be quicker to get it delivered.
I hope that it does have wifi but if it doesn't at least I'll save £10 per month on my hotspot access! I was offered Copilot with it but declined as I already have TomTom 6. Does anyone know if it has TomTom in ROM?
Phil
Got mine on Friday and suprisingly there is no Wi Fi built in... this is a pretty serious problem as the website states it does!
Phil,
There is no TomTom on the rom although TomTom 6 runs perfectly on it, just select COM4 under other GPS unit.
I knew it was too good to be true. No wifi is a major bummer. WHY
It now appears that despite there being stock (I know this!) there is no mention of the phone on the site after I sent an email enquiring why it was advertised as having wi-fi and not actually having it.

With the correct version of TTN6 loaded you get an option to select "Built-In GPS receiver" if you have loaded TTN6 on to your device can you check a couple of things:
1/ does the roller ball control the volume level?
2/ does the roller wheel control the map zoom level
3/ does the roller wheel skip through the menu pages
Only interested to see if its version specific or does TTN6 work with this hardware as a matter of fact - Mike
Picked it up from the post office today. Very nice little unit. Complicated to use, as im not used to a PDA device, but im getting used to it. Gotta get Tom Tom 6 installed ASAP.

1) Yes scrolling the rollerball left and right controls the volume for the voice from the main screen
2) No, the roller ball moves the cursor but the roller whell has no function
3) No but the roller ball allows you to scroll through the menu items.
Hi,
Am I missing something here? Just upgraded to xda Orbit. All working lovely jubbley.
But....no SatNav software (CoPilot I think should come free with it). There's nothing in the box except the usual stuff....unless I'm being really stupid and it's right under my nose?!?! Where should it be??!?!
Anyone? Or am I not entitled to the free software as I am not a new customer?
Any light shed most appreciated.
I think o2 only gave away Copilot on the higher tariffs, otherwise you had to pay for it.
Possibly, but I'm on £50 / month.
Plus it says nothing about it on the website: https://shop.o2.co.uk/phone/O2/Xda_Orbit_-_Sat_Nav
Have they just forgotten to put it in the pack? Should it come in the normal box or in a seperate box?
Anyone know?

Its not preinstalled on your memory card is it?
No....but have found an answer.
Looked on another forum and saw posts detailing NO CoPilot software unless you order online.
I am an o2 select customer (as most are I think anyway....) so used the phone to upgrade.
Well unhappy about this, but then again, I love a good argument (esp with o2), so watch this space, will have my free software by the end of tomorrow if it kills me!!
Thanks for any help given, and if anyone has any ideas about how to get this freakin software it would be most appreciated.

They send it out separately so may arrive in the next few days. But if I was you I'd ring them up and find out for sure. On a £50 tariff you're definitely entitled to a free Copilt. The Copilot pack should include memory card, CD, car charger and car mount.
Great, thanks for the heads up! Think I will go easy on them at first then!!

Not quite true. Online gave away copilot on any tariff, but have now changed to the same as the high street where you get it free on the higher tariffs only. Ring them and get it sorted.
I upgraded over the phone but am an online customer (billing done online as opposed to paper statements sent thru the post each month). I got everything bundled into 1 box, should be 1 o2 branded box for the phone and a separate one for the Co-Pilot stuff.
Spoke to o2 this morning. Apparently I am eligible for the CoPilot, however o2 had neglected to order it....no surprise really.
Anyway, its on order and will be with me shortly...again, apparently....!!
Will keep you update,
Thanks.
Many thanks...due to this topic I called O2 and suprise suprise they found the Co-Pilot software in the store I should have got free. Went straight down and got it....thanks for the info.
Eoin
Had a right nightmare upgrading mine with O2 over the phone mate.
After the usual yes you will give me what I want conversation I got em to agree to including the copilot and the handset for free.
Phone turns up...... no copilot anywere.
Call to customer services, "no notes saying its included sir"
"well I suggest you listen to the call" I said. "I wanna speak to the bloke who upgraded me (insert time date and name of operator) "
He calls me back, makes his appologies and explains he's sending it out today. Turns up next day, on a MINI SD Card!!!!!
Called back (again) explaining the problem, rather miffed by now. "only one I can order " he says
(Me banging my head against the wall icon)
Finally get him to send me a Free Micro SD card to put it on, principle really as I'd already ordered a 2GB one
Just shows how sometimes the operators haven't got a clue! rant over LOL
Everyone be calm...I have received my CoPilot.....everyone can now relax!!
Only joking, but yes it is here.
So, in summary, o2 need a hefty nudge now and again. But we all knew that, didn't we?! If you ain't got your free software, a few well placed calls will do the trick.
End of thread methinks. Thanks for your help.
GPS Software Ideas - T-Mobile Dash
Im in desperate need to find a good GPS program that works with the Dash. My bluetooth GPS receiver came in today but I need to find a GPS program.
I have searched this site, and well the Search sucks and returned about 2 or 3 things pertaining to GPS Software.
Anyone got some ideas?

Fixed... No wonder no one had replied. Thanks
I won't lie, I've been trying to install several pirated version of it today. And it just doesn't seem to work. The closest of my attempts has been when TomTom opened up then asked for configurations then told me TomTom is not compatible with this device. Sigh. Gladly I didn't go out a buy it before trying it.
And what makes you think that a paid product will not work, just for trying it's pirated version???
I'm no saint, also tried out several pirated GPS software, AFTER I bought R66.
R66 always performed to the standarts, while all the others gave some kind of problem. I succed to make some work, but it's just too much trouble... for me, anyway.
I would advice to question the software development houses, regarding compatibity issues with your device, just to be on the safe, but I don't see why a comercial, legal version would not work correctly.

I can assure you that TT 6 works just fine on Excalibur. Retail product I mean. Certain cracked version also works, but I advice against it since developers deserve to be rewarded for their hard work.

I agree, but you can bet your ass im not shelling out that much to find out it doesn't work. I've tried several TT6 and TT5, and for some reason it says not compatible for this device. I will take your word on it though and take TT6 into consideration with Route 66 Mobile 7.
Vmiguel, do you have R66 Mobile 7 on a Dash? I've been looking at buying this. Also If you do, I read that it comes with MiniSD/SD but the Dash uses Micro SD. Are you able to install from the DVD to micro sd?
Im particularly looking for a good GPS Software that I can download online and pay for. But if I have to I can order it.
TomTom 6
I've been trying to locate TomTom6; however, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Amazon says "Coming Soon" -- as does the tomtom.com website. Is this product available in the U.S. yet (European version seems to be shipping, though...)
Also, does the bluetooth receiver included in the package need an external power source, or is it battery powered?
The online materials don't mention compatibility with the T-Mobile Dash specifically...
Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed you could order TomTom 5 from TomTom.com but TomTom 6 didn't have a purchase option.
I already have a bluetooth GPS receiver, so I am seriosuly thinking I might just order Route 66 Mobile 7 WMS.
If you guys know of any other compatable GPS software please post it.
Copilot Live
Has anyone tried Copilot Live? I read some reviews that seemed to recommend the product -- and it's a lot easier to find than Route 66.
Also, anyone have some thoughts in general about using a smartphone (such as our beloved Dash) for GPS navigation as opposed to just buying a dedicatd unit?
Thanks!
Another GPS Question...
Here's one more question. Can all of these packages be installed on a Micro SD card and run from there? Or does the main app have to be installed in phone memory? It seems these apps take a significant amount of space (6 Megs for Copilot Live, 16 Megs for Route66, etc.), so it would be a shame to be forced to install them in phone memory...
Thanks!
I'll get my Excalibur in couple of hours and will post some impressions and screen shots.

I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE TO ALL.
TomTom does not work on Smartphone. It installs fine, but then there is no possibility to pick correct com port and keyboard pressing does not correspond properly.
OK, I just ordered Route66 online from their shop. I'll let you know how is it after it arrives - within next week or so.

You have to try iGO 2006. This is very nice and easy software. Works for me and as original is pre installed on Mini SD, so it should work on any PDA's.

Nice, but no North America maps...
mapopolis
I like mapopolis. It has GPS support, street-by-street driving instructions (with voice prompt), business and place-of-interest look up, etc.
So, if you're wondering in and about a different neighborhood, you can click on the businesses and it will give you their telephone number/location, etc. You can also look up driving directions via address (like mapquest) etc.
It's works great for the pocket PC -- smartphone (like the dash) i suspect is so-so. I've used it on the mx220, and without a touch screen it's just O.K.
The cons would be their web site interface. You pay $99 for unlimited downloads of individual counties in regions of the United States. Since a state like California has 58 counties, (58 separate maps) that's a lot of downloading time. They have an option to just buy an SD card with all the maps on it, but the dash doesn't use SD. (plus it costs more).
However the pros: Trial download. (I think 10 days?). Give it a shot, see if you like it, it uninstalls pretty nicely too.
http://www.mapopolis.com
For anyone still looking to snag one, http://1saleaday.com/ has the lapdock for sale again. $54.99, plus what I would imagine is their standard $5 shipping.
Edit---------
As mentioned by pre4speed, they decreased the rice by $5. Curious -- I have never seen them do that on their site before.
When will these sales be available outside the US ?
NM...............n00b moment!
Just received mine today. Opened it up to discover it has a UK keyboard... ಠ_ಠ
Ill get mine tomorrow and let you know whether mine is uk as well, hope we didnt get fooled
Yea, sure hope this wasn't a common thing. Emailed support though. I don't recall seeing anything in the description about it being a UK version.
It doesn't affect too much on the layout, but it is a bit annoying. I'll post back if/when I get a response from them.
yup uk keyboard
Good News
Well, I have good news. It would seem that they are accepting returns on the webtops with a UK keyboard. The email seems like it might be just a script/automated message, but it should work.

sup guys got mine today, using it now. Didn't even notice the keyboard thing till i saw this thread.(smh..it said it on the box) look like its a common thing. other than the "@" and "2" functions being switch around everything is good. i think i'm going to stick out and don't bother trying to get a exchange plus itook the stickers of already (feel like the uk version is probably the only one they have)
Yea, that's what worries me. Also, it's not going to be exactly cheap to send a box of that size that weighs 5 lbs. I think I'm going to reply back to them to make sure I'm not going to waste time & money on getting the same thing.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G using XDA App
just going to keep it. not worth the trouble to ship back
I need a lapdock!! Why do I always arrive late to the party

Got another email from them. It seems that upon request, they will provide shipping labels. So if you were debating it on the fact that shipping it back will cost you, just send support an email.
thanks but was mostly worried about them not having the us keyboard version(which Im started to believe is the case) and making me send it back for no reason. After 3 days im loving this thing and can wait for ICS update w webtop 3.0
onesaleaday has it on sale again (via Newegg.com). looks like model #9SIA0MC0B56334. can someone that has received one check the model number so that it can be confirmed if US or UK layout. Looks like the "other model 3 is 9SIA0MC0932943. I went ahead and put it on order, but might cancel if someone confirms this is not US model. I think it is not, as the latter model # is out of stock.
while trying to find out which KB this has, I found another link from 1saleaday to http://bensoutlet.com/products/motorola-lapdock-atrix-4g they also list it @ $59.99.
also I sent an email to 1saleaday asking them to confirm which KB for item on sale.
update sent email requesting info on keybrd in stock. It was forwarded to someone else who replied asking what i wanted (request was in email she was forwarded, and in turn responded to me on). Final response was "We can not guarantee that the keyboard will be either US or UK". I will not do biz with these folks after dealing with them and also from reading all the probs other folks had with their service.
Yea, they gave me the same thing when I sent mine back. We can't guarantee that there are US keyboard ones in stock. Got a refund, and I don't think I will be ordering from them any time soon.
Just head to ebay or Amazon. Surely a few more dollars to guarantee a US keyboard is worth it. As for me, I'm going to hold off until webtop 3.0 comes to purchase a new one.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
Oh you guys had me scared. I did end up getting a UK keyboard version, but that's just the labels on the keys. Shift + 2 still gets me @ instead of ", for example. So unless you intend to use the lapdock for learning how to type, it won't be a problem.
