Audiovox PPC 4100 Headset? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Is there a way to hack the headset jack to use a universal headset? Or the headset boom from nextel for the i730. Or has any one come across a headset with a boom that will work on this device that is not the proprietary earbuds from audiovox?

look at the plug if it firts then great if it doesnt u can chop off the wire and change the jack to make it fit
u gotta match up the wires.

modifying my headset

im pissed of that theres no way of piping sound through the car kit, so i want to know is this possible. i have a haicom charger/gps lead which will provide power and gps, using a cheap type holder. For sound , would it work if i cut off the earpieces, and wire to a jack plug, into my stereo aux input?...if this works, the only drawback is having to switch to aux to take a call, so could i patch in a cheap car kit speaker into the cable.....is there enough power to drive it?, i could then only use the aux input when listening to mp3......
yes it would work
but you need not kill a headset you can get
2.5mm to 3.5mm converters and just use that

How to make our own Headset to use with Universal

Anyone interested in this topic to advice to make our own Headset
Count me in
I would be interested. The headset supplied is not very good: the earpieces don't stay in place to get the best sound and the wires are to 'wirey', ie they're not soft enough, and they don't lay straight.
I had seen before someone had taken the Nokia hands-free headphones (similar to the Universals, with a central piece with a mic and button on) and they manages to fit a tiny 2.5mm stereo socket in it, so any standard headphones would plug in. But on the Universals, I don't think there's room.
www.remtrak.com sell 4-way Jack Plugs (3.5MM Angled or Straight) so we could feasibly manufacture our own, with the corrct pin out.
L, R, GND, Mic - But which is which?!
I have an old 80's BT Viscount Handset removed from it's phone base and itching for headset duties. . .

I don't see how that helps me hook up a Pokia, Novophone, or connect my own home-made devices. But good link for Non-Geeks!

Wired Headset skematiks needed

Hello,
I'm interested to know more about wired headset.
I need it for answering when ride my moto. (this is why I don't need BT headset - but I have it)
Well, here in My country i didn't found a headset for Uni, because they are too rare.. and Uni have an 3,5mm jack, not 2,5mm as used in lot of gsm phones.
So, if anyone has skematiks, how to build headset for Uni from other type of stereo headset, I would apreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
Basically, you can just buy a normal headset, then replace only the jack. All headsets (should) have the same impendance(did I spell that right?), so no modification to the headset itself should be needed.
Just get a 3.5mm 3-channel(not the general one, you need the extra channel for the mic...but I guess you already know that) jack from an electronics store, cut off the original, identify the wires used(using a multimeter, or linking it up to another cable playing music), and splice on the new 3.5 mm one used. Just be sure to insulate the wire joints well so they won't accidentally short-circuit.
There: one 3.5mm headset, ready for use. Maybe slap on some cosmetics to the joint, so it won't look that ugly and homemade(a heat-shrink tube should do the trick, along with some padding to give it a some taper like those on factory-made jacks.
Good luck with your MacGyvering, mate!
Very thank you..
Your idea is super.. the only thing is that I never seen a 3,5mm jack with 3 chanells.. but I will search for it..
After I will do the trick will post back the results.
P.S. as subject of meditation.. did you ever seen another phone model which use a 3,5mm jack at headset?

XDA compatible with Nokia wired handsfree?

Hi,
Does anyone know which, if any of the XDA's are compatible with a standard wired Nokia handsfree headset with a 2.5mm 4 pole jack plug?
The reason?
I'm trying to use my XDA Orbit in a powered cradle on my motorcycle. This cradle has a 2.5mm 4 pole jack plug output which I have established is a standard Nokia fitting. If any of the XDA's had/have a Nokia compatible jack socket I can then order an adapter which allows connection of a headset and stereo output. I can then receive phone calls on the Orbit and listen to music/tomtom output!
Anyone out there any ideas ?
Cegmawr.
allo dude
i used a standard nokia 2.5mm handsfree as basically a single earpiece when watching films so i know for definite that the audio part works, im not too sure about the mic.
just confirming the speaker works!
Nokia compatible
Thanks,
Thats a good starting point for me.

[Q] 2.5 mm headphones

2.5 headset
I have an o2 XDA Atom Exec and got an o2 in-ear stereo headset with it.
That headset is now faulty, one side no longer works and i cant determine where the problem is.
Anyways, i want an in-ear headphones to use with the pda mainly to listen to audio rather than to make calls.
I tried connecting it with 3.5mm headphones with an adapter but with any movement of the adapter, the pda would automatically stop the audio and load dial the first number on the dialed list. Its very annoying.
I tried both the small stick type adapter and the wire adapter with the same result.
So now i'm after an in-ear stereo 2.5mm headset or a solution to stop it from going to the phone mode.
Any help ?
Thanks
is it work fine be4?
perhaps There is some short circuit in your headphone itself or maybe in jack port. trying use another headphone to identify the problem
oftenly headphone for mobile has 4 intersection in its jack. and common music headphone only have 3 intersection, I think use the 3 intersection jack should be fine
you can use the nokia 2.5mm headsets. they are like the OEM ones but they sound better. they both use the 3 ring jack, instead of the more standard 2 ring jack.
