Danger? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

is there any danger in doing hard resets often?you see whenever i install an app i dont like or if some inconsistencies show up in my device i always do a hard reset and re-install all my apps.i do this probably once a week.i know its kinda OC but i actually enjoy the re-installation process!!

I dont think so.. besides reseting devices are much more gooder than having the very old system in your device just like in desktop pc. Desktop PC is required to Format once a month to avoid some errors and stackup..

I'm constantly trying new stuff and hard-resetting and re-installing backup file (sometimes 2-3 times a week) and always have done on xda, xdaII and MDAIII and MPx220 - not problems so far.

help: Error deleting file

Been running my MDA Compact III for just under a week now. Everything was going fine, tom tom working etc. Yesterday I installed SPB Pocket Plus , now I can't connect via activsync and can't delete any files (from phone or memory card), get the error message....
Error Deleting File
Cannot delete 'filenamehere': Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use.
What have I done? I've tried a soft reset, that didn't work. I've took the memory card out and can delete files when I put it in a card reader. I'm hoping if changed a setting somewhere but I can't for the life of me work out what I've done.
Can anybody offer any suggestions?
I've never had problems after SPB Pocket Plus was installed. Currently I don't have it installed on my device since I use it solely just for navigation thus I cannot find a more concrete solution but to try uninstalling SPB Pocket Plus and see if your problem is solved.
Thanks for your reply, couldn't uninstall anything so had to go down the hard reset route. Wasn't too bad though, I got back up and running in about an hour will all my programmes installed and working again.
Still don't know what happened though.

activesync problems
iam also facing the same problem. is there any alternative solution for this problem other than hard reset.
thanx
It may have nothing to do with Pocket Plus but rather the mysterious problem discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285511
I had the same message and couldn't delete the erroneous files. My solution was also to hard reset.
My view
Oh i had the same problem, these files become stacked and are due to long paths, use the tool available at pathtoodeep.com ,it is a tool which deletes and also searches such undeleteable files and also assists in installation and sharing of long pathed files

Is anyone else having issues with slow device after installing some prgs?

I've described this before under different topics, but some cabs and exe files that I install make my whole phone like 50% slower. And you cannot restore the speed by uninstalling the programs - you have to do a hard reset. I finally wised up and bought a backup software so I don't have to reinstall, reset, and rerecord voice tags all over again. I go ahead and do a backup with Sprite and I've found that I cannot live without this program now. It's REALLY good. I know some people don't believe in backup programs like Sprite and SPB, but I will never be without this program.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem besides me. I usually get into trouble because every new cab file I see, I try to download and run. So far these are the programs that I've identified that cause this:
HTC Home cab (old one)
HTC Album
Voice Commander
Touch Keyboard
There may be a few more (or combinations of programs that cause this), but those are the ones I remember. Also, was wondering if anyone was able to restore the speed of the device without hard resetting.
BTW, I'm using Meschle's Premium Plus ROM.
yes i did but i soft reset and all was ok for me

Hard reset required?

In one of my more thoughtless moments I have installed the emoze client on my S620. Now the phone locks up after every restart. Is there any way I can stop that software from starting or do I have to do a hard reset!

I guess you never found an answer here? I have the exact same problem. Old versions of emoze worked fine... new one, killed my dash.
I haven't tried it, but from other posts I've gathered that you can remove the SIM card, start the phone, do NOT clear the error at boot, connect USB to a PC and launch ActiveSync, then remove the offending program from \Windows\StartUp. This avoid the hard reset.

I'm not really familiar with this app, but just out of curiosity, did you install this on your micro-SD card? if you did, then remove the sd card and then reboot. This will make the startup link "fizzle out" since it's pointing to media located on a piece of hardware that is not installed. This should allow you to then re-insert the micro-SD card (after a couple of minutes) and then go through the settings-->>remove programs ...portion
Thanks for the feedback.
I cant remember where I installed the offending software.
I have done a hard reset since the original post and all is working fine, but I will snaffle those ideas away for future reference - should it ever happen again.
I love this forum!

No phone despite reboot

Hi There.
Did a search on this but didn´t find any with an identical proplem so here goes:
Once in a blue moon the phone part of my TP2 shuts down. In this event everything else but voice calls & sms works fine.
When it happens, and it did twice now, i´we tried soft reset, without success.
Only thing that seems to work is a hard reset meaning a couple of hours reinstalling everything.
Can anyone please tell me, if there is another way to restart the phone software, e.g. running an exe file from the windows directory.
Regards
ELO
try putting the phone is airplane mode and then going back to normal operation.
when the phone is working properly use a back up program like Sprite or SPB and make a back up.
Then if you have to hard reset you just load back up your restore and you are good to go. Just as a note though: It does not write over stuff that is not in the backup ie: if you removed an app or many and then backed it up it will be there when you restore. You will still have to remove those apps. However all your settings etc will still be there.
This does not solve your phone issue but it may save you a few hours that you can invest in finding a proper solution.

Lost ALL images and videos - will rooting possibly save me?

Hey all,
as I was backing up files from my phone (internal storage full, 500MB to go) via USB, and after I'd done a bunch of PDFs and what not, I wanted to start moving videos / photos. That failed instantly and after that, EVERY SINGLE IMAGE / VIDEO file was gone from the phone. I installed three "recovery" apps - they couldn't find a thing. I have a bunch of family stuff I really, really would like to have back.
I downloaded the MIUI unlocking tool and wanted to 'get going' with rooting, but I'm getting a "Unlock will erase user data" notification, for if I continue. This does not seem what I want.
- Can I continue without definitely trashing any hope of recovering files?
- Is there another way to get to files that magically disappeared (no Sync on, no OneDrive auto-backup, no nothing at all) that do not required root, and/or ...
- Is this a "known" problem? I cannot seem to find anything.
Many, many, many thanks......
As MIUI Unlocking tool says, it will delete all the data on the phone.
Whelp, this is happening. I'll give it a go before I can't get the files...
I have to wait 2 weeks for the MIUI tool to allow unlocking the bootloader. So I guess at this point I'd mostly like to know if the Mysterious Case of the Disappearing Files is something that's more common on the Redmi Note 5 - or on Android 8.1 / MIUI? I'd like to assure the reader at this point that, while threads like these are a dime a dozen and it often boils down to user error, I'm not a complete nitwit and assure you I was doing nothing other than Ctrl-X -> Ctrl-V to harddrive, got an error message, 40GB were magically freed up on internal storage and ALL files were gone. All of it. Folders too.
Updating thread title, hope that's okay..
Realistically, considering different "undelete" / "recovery" apps are not finding ANYTHING!!! at all, how likely is it even that something will be found once the device has been rooted? This almost seems like it had a system reset while it was still enabled...... Just everything gone / re-encrypted / whatever. Is that even possible? Again, though, the device DID NOT reboot. The files were there......then 40GB was gone.
It is possible to recover the data but the process will require root permissions. Install Disk digger pro from playstore. And give root permissions it can easily recover the most of the photos ( May recover all but possibilities are less ) Give a try bro it will definitely help you. As it helped me before.
I had something similar back when I had Redmi Note 3. Files just disappeared when I put them inside obb folder. However, they reappeared when I entered the recovery (it was custom) and I copyed them via cable onto my pc. They weren't there when I connected normally turned on phone to the pc, and it was annoying. So whatever you are doing, don't format your phone, otherwise you'll lose the files forever.
If rooting and installing an app to recover the files won't help, I suggest you flashing twrp and trying to find them from there using the cable and a pc, or whatever.
Thanks. It's a shame I'm finally "getting in to" rooting only now, now that I have a problem. When I tried many years ago I felt it was too complicated and most of all risky....
The main problem I have with rooting is that the Mi Unlock Tool wishes to Reset the phone, re-encrypting it in the process, and destroying any hope of recovering data. I intend to flash OrangeFox before it can reset.... Does anyone have a better idea....? It's really very, very much appreciated!
