Is there a hack version of the ROM update for an iPAQ hx 4705 on this site yet? I have an hx4705 and would like to try upgrading to 5.0 without screwing around with waiting for HP (and paying 50 bucks) to get around to releasing the update.
Thanks.

I'm not too sure that updates for the iPAQ range are on topic on this forum, however HP have released a BIOS update today.
I am sure that it doesn't include windows version 5, and iti s incorrectly labelled, but it's the closest you'll get for a long while.
Here's hoping it fixes the memory allocation...

Has anyone heard anything from Imate on where the AKU 2.0/MSFP upgrades are for the Jasjar? I am hoping early next month for a new ROM upgrade.
seems that it is delayd because of the current lawsuits that is Microsoft into con Visto.
I don't think there are any delays with the AKU 2.0/MSFP. Visto just filed a lawsuit, that does not mean anything has to stop until a judgement is made, just like with RIM/Blackberry which likely years in courts before anything is done.
Gigabyte (a Taiwan based company) has just released the first Windows Mobile device with AKu 2.0 built in: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4701.html
I am hoping that IMate and Qtek are going to be quick to follow since Microsoft has stated that AKU 2.0/MSFP shipped to carriers and OEMs nearly 1.5 months ago.
What are the chances someone can get ahold of a device to check to see if there is a MSFP.cab or something in the extended_rom?
Been trying to get my hands on the MSFP for ages with absolutely no luck. Been pleading with various Microsofties and they all tow the company line.
Should have tried to join the beta programme at the beginning.
It'll be out in a few weeks though.... I suppose....!
Hi all,
My brother in law was impressed with WM 5.0 on my XDA IIs, and not long after, he received a HP IPAQ 1940 from work for free.
Now he's pestering me to get WM 5.0 for his PDA.
Anyone got any resources or information regarding this?
TIA
Gav
Official upgrades can be bought from HP here:
http://www.ipaqchoice.com/generic3.aspx?page=wm2005
No mention of the 1940 though a hacked rom may exist.

hi
i have an hp ipaq 1950 but in chinese language
does anyone know from where i can have the english rom???
All,
Just a quick note ... thought you'd be interested.
I contacted Dopod here in Australia, trying to find out when the official Australian D810 (with GPS) ROM would be available. I have also been requesting any details of whether or not Dopod would release WM6 for the D810.
The response on my query for the GPS ROM resulted in the following:
It looks like it is 4 weeks away.
We will also bring WM6 with GPS in another 2-3 months time for the D810.

How's that for good news!!
yeah!!
what a great news!!! althought I don't have a D810...
Great news....
Any one else can ask Dopod for confirmation about the wm6???
I'm not Dopod costumer...
Thank's...
You got this information directly from Dopod? Hmmmm, for some reason I just don't believe you.
Super, thanks for the good news
It looks like it is 4 weeks away"

thats was official reply or chat ! ! !
WHOA!!!! GREAT NEWS if confirmed!!!!
cool great news we will be waiting
Sounds like a duck to me, not very plausible.
But then again if true, then very very cool!
awesome news if true
Importer for Spain and Portugal convinced HTC will officialy release WM6 for Trinity in few months. No data on timespan known at the moment. Same source says immediate release of WM5 GPS enabled ROM (next week).
This was already said. Hope true.
this is good news
What did I say in the donation thread? If we pay a bunch of money (and I did, don't get me wrong), an official release will happen.
You know if we hadn't, they wouldn't have bothered... :$
Hope its true!
But in Portugal the importer its NovaBase, and when the dopod gps version cames out, i've contacted NovaBase to know if HTC was going to release a gps rom, and the tell that it would be released during the February month!....
So, las week i've mailed them again and said that February has passed, and no rom released.... than I ask if they have a prevision to release that and ask too if they will release this quipment with wm6..... they answerd that gps will be released but no time prevision and tell that dont have plans to release wm6!
It is not worry, if dopod releases it! I am using the gps rom for dopod d810 in my p3600 and it is great!
Attachment:
Exmo. Sr. Não temos uma data certa para existir a actualização de ROM. Deverá consultar o site da HTC Europa (www.europe.htc.com). Não existem planos para haver um upgrade de sistema operativo Windows Mobile 6. Cumprimentos, Equipa do Mobility Support

(7- march-2007)
Hope dopod releases it! (as soooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnn as possible!)
Suspicious bunch arent you?
To put further context around the information I received:
The reply was from Dopod Support
I have been communicating with Dopod Support on a range of queries. In Australia, they were going to release an RSS Reader (which they haven't yet, but I was lucky enough to get a Test Version - it is just rebranding an existing RSS Reader available), and while I was asking I queried about:
GPS Australian ROM
Official RSS Reader Release
Availaibility of the Blackberry Client in Australia (which they have made available in other markets)
Whether or not WM6 would be made available, even for a small fee
I have now got confirmation from Dopod that the official Australian GPS ROM will be available in around 4 weeks
No confirmation as to the final release of the RSS Reader
No confirmation when the Blackberry Client will be available in the Australian market
Confirmation that Dopod will release WM6 for the D810 (Trinity) in 2 to 3 months
From my discussions with Dopod, it appeared that with there discussions with M$, M$ was apparently going to offer an upgrade installer for WM5 devices. My guess is that they have not provided it as Dopod wanted to provide WM6 via this channel, but as it is no longer happening I see this as the catalyst for providing it.
Take from this what you will, but I am very excited about this news from Dopod.
Nice!!!!
So..... lets wait!
It was nice too if HTC makes da same, But if doesn't make, we have de dopod rom!
Tks!
basically
dopod = HTC, cuz HTC bought dopod already.

Man thank you for this news, it seems that P3600 will be in my posession more than I previously thought an year for sure but as you may see there was MANY speculations about release versions of GPS and WM6 ROM's and none of them happens to be true, at least not for HTC branded devices and it is 6 (six!) months since original HTC ROM present in my P3600
BTW, I see you have some F1 action in couple of hours in your town, man I would give my Trinity to be there now
That's wonderful news assuming it's true.
However, I guess I'm going to be switching to the upcoming E-Ten X800 since it comes with WM6, VGA and (presumably a better than Qualcomm) GPS unit at launch.

Hey that x800 phone looks pretty cool.
I think you've convinced me to switch to that phone when it's released...
as I can understand, HP Ipaq 4700 received a very welcomed update to WM6, without HP effort.
Pocket Loox 720's form factor and memory and USB host funcionality are worth fighting for
Can u please consider my suggestion?
Is there already a WM5 version that works on the loox 720?

just no one want to help the 718/720 user..to bad
it is not a "helping" issue. i have been waiting an upgrade for my LOOX 720 over 3 years. i think it is one of the best pocket pc's that are ever made but FS said "hey guys we are sorry we made a technical mistake so you will never get an upgrade" so they killed their leading model after a while they shut their pocket pc section which i think this is one of the biggest reason. at the end if we can not find a young, brave, genius and hero pocket pc programmer from "xda developers" who can spent time and get rid of this "technical mistake" we will never have a upgrade.
After 3 years of waiting i gave up and bought a "o2 xda flame" which have very similar functions like vga 3.6 screen, usb host, 128mb ram plus 2gb rom, nvidia goforce GPU and also phone. But now i am waiting a WM6 upgrade for my flame which other standard pocket pcs all ready get one.
So i start to think this is the faith of non-standard pocket pcs.
So is the whole wm6 concept for FSC Loox 720 dead???
Have you guy read this:
Last week, Microsoft formally unveiled Windows Mobile 6.1, the latest version of its operating system for handhelds and smartphones.
Naturally, the owners of current devices are anxious to know if and when updates for their units will be released.
Unfortunately, there's bad news for users of HP's latest iPAQs. Responding to a question from Brighthand, Mike Hockey, Hewlett-Packard's Worldwide Public Relations Manager, said:
HP will not be offering an operating system upgrade for currently shipping HP iPAQ devices beyond what ships on the device today -- Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.
This decision comes after having evaluated the potential for delays in firmware and software updates, device recertification, and carry-over costs to our customers that are often associated with an operating system upgrade.
HP is committed to continuing its long-standing relationship with Microsoft and will deliver HP iPAQs with Windows Mobile 6.1 at a future date.

Just bought a HP 214, so I'd be very interested in the 6.1 upgrade.
It does not supprise me that HP have made this decision, they let us all down with the upgrade for the 4700 from 2003 to wm5, that in mind it will be better to have someone cook the rom than wait/trust HP to release a workable upgrade.
This just shows how committed HP is to their customers--they're not! I'm in the market for a new pocket pc and I was thinking about getting the HP 211, but I think I will just go with the dell axim X51v now.
Soo much for their so called "3 years Supports" ...
This is what i got.. 1 single version OS for the rest of your life.
multimedia on ipaq and dell.
