Exchange Sync Kicks Dial Up - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

So, I am having this issue that when ActiveSync (on the Pocket PC) goes to sync with exchange, it'll kick the dial-up connection that my PC has (via bluetooth) to the internet so that it may sync. Its really bizzare and driving me nuts. Can anyone lend a hand?
My setup:
Audiovox vx6600 (EVDO for Verizon)
Firmware 2.03
ActiveSync 3.8 -- using an Exchange 2003 server syncing "Items as they arrive" (note that changing this to scheduled does not fix the issue).
What happens as as soon as ANY application on the Pocket PC tries to sign itself onto the web, it decides to kick the DUN call that the computer made. This means the computer gets disconnected, very irritating.
The problem seems to lie in the fact that DUN connections are not seen as real phone calls, so they are kicked in preference of a data connection. This happened this 1.35 firmware and is still happening with the 2.03 upgrade. When I delete the connection on the PPC completely, it seems to connect fine and will never get kicked. This, however, is an annoying, half-ass work around.
Does anyone know a way, in short of making an app to do it (which I'm tempted to do if I can't solve this), to make the DUN connection take preference over the data connection, so that the laptop doesn't get kicked?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Andre

How to activesync by WiFi

Hello,
I can easyly syncronize with USB or Bluetooth.
I've set a WiFi connection to my ADSL router, it works fine, I can scan the LAN (with ScanIP) and see my PC, but no way to sync...
Though Active Sync 3.8 is installed.
Some of you succeeded, what's the magic ? ? ?
Thanks for sharing,

Cool link, added to my Favorites, thnks for shareing that with us
Superb
Excellent, if only everything was explained like this, keep it up!!!!
It was already here...
I had actually found it on this forum a few months ago...
But since I had put it into my favourites I figured it would have taken me about the same time to give it you than to tell you "go and and look for it"!
Glad it helped.

I struggled with this for awhile and could not get it working. The issue was I had was in the PC WINS setting I had left the LMHOSTS Lookup enabled. As soon as I unchecked that and had the Netbios tab checked it synced up. Thanks for the link. Now I can wifi sync.
another gotcha
I read every thread I could find on several forums regarding activesync via wifi and yet I could not get it to work. Then I finally read on a thread that the PPC network card "My network card connects to:"should be set to connect to WORK not The INTERNET. I changed that one setting and bingo, activesync instantly connected via wifi (I already had a partnership created while connected via USB). Of course to have the PPC connect to the Internet via wifi, you have to set it back but that is easy enough to accomplish.

On my SX66, I don't have to change back to "the Internet" to surf; I just leave it set to "Work".
New problem...activesync connects but
Well, I had everything working, now I have a new issue. I can successfully sync via usb and BT connects. When turn off BT and then tell activesync running on the BA to sync, activesync on both the PC and the BA indicate that they are connected (as BT is off and the BA is out of the cradle, it is obvious that they are connected via WiFi at this point). Then the "looking for changes" meter starts advancing and when it gets about 1/3 of the way finished, it just stops. Both the PC and the BA still show connected and activesync still indicates that it is trying. After several minutes of the no more progress, the PC side activesync indicates that there was a synchronization error.
Any ideas. I have uninstalled activesync 3.8 and reinstalled. I have run the outlook repair utility just in case there was something weird with my outlook pst file (it was clean).
Thanks
David
I have this problem too - I find if i soft reset the unit (and sometimes my computer too) then it works fine. anyone got any ideas?
Tried the soft reset ....
I tried the soft reset on the PPC as well as rebooting the PC and still activesync stops progressing during the sync process about 1/3 of the way thru and eventually reports the synchronization error. I have noted that during BT or usb syncing, the process pauses at the same place for just a split second and then zooms thru the remaining 2/3s of the process. It is like activesync is waiting for somekind of a handshake or acknowledgement from the PPC. I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Have you tried turning off synchronise 'Files' in the activesync options? sometimes funny files can cause this problem?
Only syncing...
The only things I am trying to sync are my contacts, tasks and calendar. I even tried unchecking even those items so that I was essentially NOT syncing anything but activesync via WiFi still stalls at about 1/3 complete. As I did have WiFi/ActiveSync working for a day or so with NO issues and nothing has changed (or I guess I should say, I changed nothing), this is a real mystery.

Blackbeery GPRS and WIFI drives me nuts....

Hi there!
Has anyone an idea, how to make the Wifi and the Blackberry GPRS
Connection work at the same time?
It drives me nuts, as i am turning on WIFI, the Blackberry GPRS gets
disconnected. BUT, in 99% of the cases it reconnects the GPRS within
5 seconds. So there is not enough time to connect to any WIFI AP.
As i want to sync via WIFI its very annoying.
I know i can turn of the Radio, so that GPRS is disabled, but then
i cannot receive any phone calls, thats NOT what i want.
Any ideas, anyone???
cheers

PS: i forgot: Using Blueangel MDA III from Austrian T-Mobile, with newest Austrian German ROM from T-Mobile (like the one on the xda ftp).
PPS: Thanx for the extrom unlocking tool, really good stuff.
I must admit, I've never had that problem, but I make sure that I close ALL applications before turning on the WiFi. It can take 10-20 seconds for the WiFi interface to estbalish a connection and get an IP address. During that time, the device will try and connect via GPRS when you launch email, internet explorer etc
Hi!
The great problem is not an application. the problem is the
blackberry service, which you cannot deactivate without loosing
all data and settings
thanks to t-mobile
cheers

Ouch that could get expensive if you didn't realise - I'm glad I don't have blackberry services, just plain old POP3 & SMTP email
hi!
no it actually doesnt, because t-moblle has an extra gprs setting for the blackberry client. when you are connected with the blackberry gprs, there are no costs. on the other hand, you can only use the blackberry service with this gprs connection, no internet, nothing.
its really annoying. No one else any ideas about that ??? pleeeease
cheers

Blackberry and GPRS
Hi,
just use a taskmanager like "supertasks" which supports starting and stopping of services. Go to the services tab and stop the blackberry service. Then you can use WiFi as you like and afterwards you just turn on the service again. Nice handling so.

Is it possible to use GPRS whilst cradled?

...I have just upgraded to T-Mobile 1.42 and decided to subscribe to T-Mobile UK's Instant Email using Blackberry Connect. This of course uses GPRS and works perfectly wherever I go.
At work, however, I often leave my phone cradled. When I 'sync-up' to the PC, I lose my GPRS connection, and forcing a connect drops the ActiveSync connection. As such, Instant E-Mail stops working.
Some may argue that if I am synced up, I instantly get all my e-mails through the cable anyways, but in fact I also get personal e-mails via Instant Email.
1) Is the disconnecting normal behaviour?
2) Is there any way of keeping a GPRS connection whilst ActiveSyncing?
3) If not, is there any other way of using BB Connect in this state?
Regards,
Darren
disconnecting is normal behaviour - I have not found a way to avoid it
Hi!!!
It´s normal, you only have one chance, sync or GPRS.........if you want to conect by GPRS while your PDA is in the cradle you sholud disable USB conection on active sync
PD:excuse me for me english

Activesync with No Partnership

Hi Everyone.
Ive got my O2 XDA Orbit configured to sync my mail and Calendar etc from my Exchange Server at work. If I use GPRS or WIFI, this works a treat. However, I have a couple of locations where WIFI isnt available, but a USB connection to a PC is. Rather than setup a partnership at these places (I dont need to sync anything locally with the PCs), I want to use the internet connection on the PC to connect. Im sure that with my old EXEC, when I connected it to the USB port, it went right ahead and synced through the internet with Exchange, but this machine never seems to start doing so.
I have disabled partnerships on the PCs so that I dont have to click "Guest" each time I connect it. when the USB is connected, Activesync will not work at all on the Orbit.
I know youre all cleverer than me, does anyone know why this happens?
Steve

Help with Activesync!!

hi, i had the Cing_v2.5_bbc rom on my Hermes, and loved it. I noticed on that rom that Activesync always stayed connected, and i didn't have to set up a schedule for it to check my email (activesync was always connected). i recently switched to Schap's newest (4.31) rom and i was able to get a constant data connection, but my activesync will not stay connected all the time. I was wondering if there was some sort of setting or registry hack that will force activesync to stay connected at all times (instead of using the schedule in activesync and synching every x minutes). any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
even a 3rd party app to make A$ stay connected would be helpful...
