Activesync - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello, I cant sync my XDA2, when you put it in the cradle it says "user authentication" then nothing. The Active sync on the pc says "connecting" but never does. Some one said it could be conection settings on the XDA2, If you go to O2 active interface then my XDA Then connections it says Germany if I change this to UK then finish it reboots but comes back as Germany. Any ideas???
Thanks Peter

How to activesync by WiFi

Hello,
I can easyly syncronize with USB or Bluetooth.
I've set a WiFi connection to my ADSL router, it works fine, I can scan the LAN (with ScanIP) and see my PC, but no way to sync...
Though Active Sync 3.8 is installed.
Some of you succeeded, what's the magic ? ? ?
Thanks for sharing,

Cool link, added to my Favorites, thnks for shareing that with us
Superb
Excellent, if only everything was explained like this, keep it up!!!!
It was already here...
I had actually found it on this forum a few months ago...
But since I had put it into my favourites I figured it would have taken me about the same time to give it you than to tell you "go and and look for it"!
Glad it helped.
Chris
I struggled with this for awhile and could not get it working. The issue was I had was in the PC WINS setting I had left the LMHOSTS Lookup enabled. As soon as I unchecked that and had the Netbios tab checked it synced up. Thanks for the link. Now I can wifi sync.
another gotcha
I read every thread I could find on several forums regarding activesync via wifi and yet I could not get it to work. Then I finally read on a thread that the PPC network card "My network card connects to:"should be set to connect to WORK not The INTERNET. I changed that one setting and bingo, activesync instantly connected via wifi (I already had a partnership created while connected via USB). Of course to have the PPC connect to the Internet via wifi, you have to set it back but that is easy enough to accomplish.

On my SX66, I don't have to change back to "the Internet" to surf; I just leave it set to "Work".
New problem...activesync connects but
Well, I had everything working, now I have a new issue. I can successfully sync via usb and BT connects. When turn off BT and then tell activesync running on the BA to sync, activesync on both the PC and the BA indicate that they are connected (as BT is off and the BA is out of the cradle, it is obvious that they are connected via WiFi at this point). Then the "looking for changes" meter starts advancing and when it gets about 1/3 of the way finished, it just stops. Both the PC and the BA still show connected and activesync still indicates that it is trying. After several minutes of the no more progress, the PC side activesync indicates that there was a synchronization error.
Any ideas. I have uninstalled activesync 3.8 and reinstalled. I have run the outlook repair utility just in case there was something weird with my outlook pst file (it was clean).
Thanks
David
I have this problem too - I find if i soft reset the unit (and sometimes my computer too) then it works fine. anyone got any ideas?
Tried the soft reset ....
I tried the soft reset on the PPC as well as rebooting the PC and still activesync stops progressing during the sync process about 1/3 of the way thru and eventually reports the synchronization error. I have noted that during BT or usb syncing, the process pauses at the same place for just a split second and then zooms thru the remaining 2/3s of the process. It is like activesync is waiting for somekind of a handshake or acknowledgement from the PPC. I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Have you tried turning off synchronise 'Files' in the activesync options? sometimes funny files can cause this problem?
Only syncing...
The only things I am trying to sync are my contacts, tasks and calendar. I even tried unchecking even those items so that I was essentially NOT syncing anything but activesync via WiFi still stalls at about 1/3 complete. As I did have WiFi/ActiveSync working for a day or so with NO issues and nothing has changed (or I guess I should say, I changed nothing), this is a real mystery.

MDA III - Newbie Set-Up Confusion (MSN Messenger)

Hi,
picked up a shiny new MDA III yesterday afternoon having switched providers - number transfer in progress - so I'm new to both the handset and the provider.
Managed to get the unit hooked up to my home WiFi network pertty simply etc and got the Active Sync sorted etc.... other than the fact the GRPS isn't configured out of the box, I've got a single major bugbear to sort.
That is that I don't seem to be able to get MSN Messenger to connect.
It's exhibiting exactly the same symptoms suggested here.... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832515
... but obviously the refers to a previous OS version ?
So, either I have something to fix or unlock in the set-up, the port is blocked on the handset (works fine on my laptop on the same WiFi through the same firewall) ?
Had a search through the forums, but to no avail. Can anyone help me on this ?
Are there any recommended patches/fixes I should have installed straight from the off ?
Thanks in advance !
Matt
OK, just so you you don't think I'm totally clueless, from what I've just been reading in the T-Mobile online manual, I have to have the GPRS connection open to connect to Messenger.
Is this right ? Surely if I have a active WiFi connection is should be able to connect using that, right ? Will it connect via GPRS and then pass it over to WiFi ?
I'll have to check it when I get home to see if I can resolve it in that way.
Any other tips gratefully received !
Matt
I'm using Messenger with a CSD (GSM) connection because it's part of my allowance. Sorry but I haven't tried WiFi yet.
I'm having the same problem.
MSN Messenger works fine using GPRS but fails to login using my Wifi connection.
What's even weirder is that it works ok when docked (ActiveSync)!!!
I'm using MDA III on T-Mobile (UK)
Anyone got any ideas?
I've tried replicating this issue, but on my XDA IIs over WiFi, it connects to messenger no problem... it doesn't even try to initiate a GPRS connection first. I can only assume that the MDA III is configured slightly differently out of the box.
As a thought, you might want to double-check Connection Manager and see which type of connection is set for programs that automatically connect to the internet
Ok, home and finished doing the set-up.
I've found no way of using MSN by any other protocol than GPRS. If you are WiFi atached and attempt to use MSN, then it will drop the WiFi connection and instead pick up GPRS. And obviously you're on for .075p per kb... which might be the real answer in why T-Mobile have set-up the device in this way.
The 'programs that automatically connect to the internet' doesn't seem to allow you to select WiFi as the default connection, only the range of GSM/GPRS options and the 'My Work' one.
Should I use the 'My Work' VPN option and set that up to use WiFi ?
If anyonebody has got any tips on how to set or hack this... seems there are a few of us that might benefit !
Just out of curiosity: if you go into your WiFi manager, have you specifically told the device that the WiFi card in your MDA III connects you to "The Internet"?
I can't recall whether that was the default setting before I set up my wireless network connection on my IIs... it seems like such a no-brainer, but it could assume that your WiFi connection is to a work network etc.
I'm at work and it 's at home.... but I'm adamant that that it knows that the WiFi connection connects to the Intanet. As you say, I think that it is the default setting
However, I will check !
Any other MDA III owners shed any light on this ?

S620 suddenly won't sync using WMDC 6.1

Hi people,
My HTC S620 suddenly stopped synchronising with my Windows Vista notebook using the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
I also have a HTC X7500 which I also sync with the same PC (along with some other Windows Mobile devices now and then) without any problems.
But.... today the S620 suddenly stopped syncing. When I connect the device to the notebook there is this Vista connection sound (so the device is recognized) and the WMDC also recognizes the phone as a connected Smartphone including my device name. It notices the date and time of the last successful sync, which is correct.
The thing is that it doesn't do anything else from that point. It should start syncing by itself, but it doesn't.
The WMDC mentions 1 error: the syncing can not be completed. Cause: error. Please see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=72544. - saying nothing at all.
Removing the partnerships on both the PC and S620, rebooting computer and S620, it doesn't matter, the sync just won't start anymore.
When I connect my X7500 again, there's no problem at all...... the syncing starts like it should, but just not with the S620 anymore.
So where is the catch and how to solve it?
Thank you for the help!!
Update
Hmmm strange, but here's an update:
When I turn off the Windows Firewall, the S620 suddenly starts syncing.
How can this suddenly be a Firewall issue?
Everything regarding "Windows Mobile" is checked in the list of allowed ports/programs and the S620 (and X7500) WERE syncing before, with the firewall being activated.
Any suggestions?
You'll have to delete the current partnership and establish a new one to get WMDC 6.1 to sync with a device that was sync'd with the older (original) version of WMDC.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. The S620 DID sync until yesterday. Before that everything was perfectly fine, with the same WMDC 6.1.
Go in Settings->Connections->More...->USB to PC
and untick use advanced networking.
I had the exact same problem, when I installed 6.1 I can't get any devices to sync when advanced is ticked. And even going back to 6.0 doesn't fix it!
That last hint worked for me...thanks.

Internet Sharing (Not a problem with Kavana or Ricky ROM)

Accessing & Using the internet via USB
I have an unlocked HTC S620 & TyTN (Hermes).
When I connect the TyTN to the USB I am able to browse the internet as the phone uses the PC as a gateway automatically.Even if I do not setup a profile for activesync and the software recognises the device as "Guest". I am ceretain that this is the case and not accessing the service via the carrier or WiFi as I have enabled flight mode and been able to use the internet on the TyTN, browsing, using IM+ Mobile Mesenger etc.
I do not find the same functionality with the HTC S620 (T-Mobile Dash). Does anyone know how to get this functionality going?
Usually you always need to make a partnership for internet pass through to work. Strange you don't with the Hermes.

When you say partnership I asume you mean bluetooth.
I Turned on Flight mode and diabled bluetooth on the TyTN, connected it to the PC. Activesync came on and I cancelled setting up a profile so it was registered as guest. I got internet access via the usb cable connected to the PC. The same is not working for the S620.
I guess the distinction between the two is the TyTN is a Pocket PC and the S620 is a smartphone. There are various Ethernet Miniport Cards available for configuration on the TyTN. You find these under Settings>>NetworkCard>>Network Adapters. The one I find that shows up as connected is IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wifi Adapter, this I find strange as the device is in flight mode. The S620 does not have all the features and configurable network adapters under settings. Simply put a smartphone will not have all the networking capability of the Pocket PC
Let me know your thoughts please, or if you have another solution.
Here is how I got mine working.
1) Connect phone to pc.
2) Make sure ActiveSync shows connected.
3) Under ActiveSync Window select File->Connection Settings...
4) Change the "This computer is connected to:" setting from "Automatic" to "The Internet".
5) Under you phone go to IE -> Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Connections and make sure "Automatically detect settings" is enabled.
That's it. You should now be able to browse the internet through your pc connection.
Forgot to mention I am using ActiveSync ver 4.5.
Dash Internet Sharing Files on S720
On my HTC S720, there was no Internet Sharing option, even though it is WM6 unit. So after reading lots of threads on here and hofo, found out Blackjack had similar issue, as well as some WM5 devices running AKU 3 or higher.
So I copied intshrui.exe, intshare.dll and intshrui.lnk from Dash WM6 Rom dump, created relevant registry entries as:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp\DefaultIcon]
@="tapres.dll,-14294"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp\SelectIcon]
@="tapres.dll,-14295"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING]
"0"="MSINTERNET_SHARING"
"1"="IntShrUI.exe"
"2"=dword:00000001
"3"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING\Session]
@=hex:00,db,4d,43,70,b9,c7,01
Then run intshrui.exe and while I can connect via Bluetooth PAN, I couldn't get any IP. I also tried a static IP and that didn't work as well. I investigated a little more, and found another key:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing]
"DisabledOnBoot"=dword:00000001
"EnableAddressTranslation"=dword:00000001
"EnableDhcpAllocator"=dword:00000001
"EnableDnsProxy"=dword:00000001
"EnablePacketFiltering"=dword:00000001
"PrivateInterface"=""
"PublicInterface"=""
"SetLastDhcpAddrToIEH"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing\Driver]
"Dll"="ipnat.dll"
"Flags"=dword:00000002
"Index"=dword:00000000
"Prefix"="NAT"
Then I copied ipnat.dll to s720. Here is the interesting part. If HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing exists, intshrui.exe will not connect, it will briefly grey out and come back to disconnected mode. As soon as I delete the key, it will setup USB or BT PAN and wait for connection (left soft key turns to Disconnect). I don't even have to reset the unit while making change to this key. Also, I left the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing as empty, and noticed as soon as I run intshrui.exe, it will populate
"PrivateInterface"=""
"PublicInterface"=""
keys under ConnectionSharing key. I also tried to change various reg keys, such as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\IpEnableRouter to 1, and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Connectivity]
"InternetSharing"=dword:00000001
None helped as well.
Am I missing a file or reg key to make this work? I looked on my Dash for various keys/files but didn't see anything useful.
has anyone figure out how to get internet sharing on wm6?
Have a look at;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1517183&posted=1#post1517183
I posted up the files and a .reg file taken from my WM6 Dopod 838, but I don't know if everything required is there. If anyone knows what else is required I'm happy to copy it from my device and post it here.
Would you mind posting ipnat.dll - it is missing from Blackjack II WM6..

Fix Internet Sharing ----do not work for me ;(
6.1 Internet Sharing Problem *R.I.P.*
Has anyone figured out why Internet sharing NO LONGER works with any 6.1 roms that i flashed to? From Kavanas ROM s to Ricky's Remakes.
Is there a fix to this?
Can any of you "smarter" Gents or Ladies, look into this.
this is wierd. who is your operator? mine works just fine with the settings i use. maybe we should find out if this problem only exist for certain operators. might also have to do with the network connections on the pc. like i said in another post, i noticed a new network connection appears when you sync the phone, unlike in wm6.0. another thing is i would have problems with activesync everytime i flashed to a new rom without doing a uninstall & reinstall of activesync.

Shouldn't be operator issue. Worked great prior to updating to 6.1. (T-Mobile USA)
What rom are you using?
damn u were quick to respond. i edited my first post. im usin the new v15 rom. and tmobile is my operator.
ediit: i just messed with my settings and went back to how i had them before and now its not letting me do the internet share. hmm... this is not cool
Iv used V14, V8 and V5 and none of them allow my internet sharing to work. V5 worked at first but then stopped.
I really like 6.1 but I NEED that internet sharing
WHAT settings are talking of? that work for you?
INTERNET VIA USB PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
ok i think the problem may be with activesync. like i said, in my second post edited, i had messed with the advance settings of connections menu, and reverted back and it stopped net sharin via usb. i noticed activesync gave me an error sayin somethin about not being able to fully connect but i was still able to browse my phone, also giving me a constant animation of the activesync icon, saying "connecting" never stopping when a full connection is establish. when i fixed this and the icon stopped turning and said "connected" i tried and it worked.
on a fresh install of the past couple of roms, this is what i did... (from an earlier post of mine)
this is what i did. use the "connection setup" in the accessories folder. choose country & operator. dont think it matters but i also selected "Enable Auto Configuration" under the menu.
in explorer, under "menu/tools/options/connections" Auto.Detect Settings is selected. under "Select Network" choose The Internet.
now go into ur phones "Connection" settings, select "GPRS". in my case, select, "T-Mobile WModem Link", under "Connects to", select The Internet. for other operators, guess look for somethin similar. now u should be able to share via usb.
one thing u might have to do is, delete whatever gprs settings u have now and power off and back on. then do the above.
sorry if this is so messy looking
Can you post the entry "seetings" for "T-Mobile WModem Link"
I manually entered my connections.
So i dont have the modem link

tp2 tethering (tmobile version)

Ok. So I went through the user manual. I installed Microsoft Activesync 4.5 on my HP Netbook and connected my phone via usb. From here i am lost. According to the manual it says that my phone is supposed to say connect to pc with a "internet sharing"option. that option is not there. The only options available are connect via active sync with outlook or disk drive. Am I missing something? I combed through the manual and searched the web and still could not find the solution. Any help will be appreciated and I'm sorry if this has been posted before but i could not find anything on this.
i just did this for my self last week..
the help section ON your phone is where i got this info...
first, disconect your phone from your computer..
then open active sinc on your computer...
click "file" then click "connection settings"
a new window will open.
UNCHECK "allow usb connections.
close active sinc.
plug your phone in.
on your phone tap to connect via "active sync"
now, on your phone go to "programs"
then "internet sharing"
it should now show on your phone,
status
pc connection
make it USB
network connection
should say tmobiel data.
at botom of screen, hit the "connect" tab, if it didnt auto connect..
if done properly status will show it connecting then finaly connect.
your computer will then automatically get an ip adress from tmobile... and then in a few moments you should be able to use computer internet normally...
i notice that it likes to drop connections periodically... all you need to do is go back into the internet sharing on yoru phone and just tap "connect" again and it reconects.
You can leave all the active sync settings at stock.
Plug in the phone and it will make the activesync connection, go to the program menu on the phone and click internet Sharing. Under PC connection it will say USB, Network is Tmobile.
Click connect and it will automatically shut down activesync and start the connection sharing...
In short...
Connect to computer. Activesync should start automatically.
Start Internest Sharing on the phone.
Click Connect
Done....
