S620 suddenly won't sync using WMDC 6.1 - HTC Excalibur

Hi people,
My HTC S620 suddenly stopped synchronising with my Windows Vista notebook using the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
I also have a HTC X7500 which I also sync with the same PC (along with some other Windows Mobile devices now and then) without any problems.
But.... today the S620 suddenly stopped syncing. When I connect the device to the notebook there is this Vista connection sound (so the device is recognized) and the WMDC also recognizes the phone as a connected Smartphone including my device name. It notices the date and time of the last successful sync, which is correct.
The thing is that it doesn't do anything else from that point. It should start syncing by itself, but it doesn't.
The WMDC mentions 1 error: the syncing can not be completed. Cause: error. Please see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=72544. - saying nothing at all.
Removing the partnerships on both the PC and S620, rebooting computer and S620, it doesn't matter, the sync just won't start anymore.
When I connect my X7500 again, there's no problem at all...... the syncing starts like it should, but just not with the S620 anymore.
So where is the catch and how to solve it?
Thank you for the help!!

Update
Hmmm strange, but here's an update:
When I turn off the Windows Firewall, the S620 suddenly starts syncing.
How can this suddenly be a Firewall issue?
Everything regarding "Windows Mobile" is checked in the list of allowed ports/programs and the S620 (and X7500) WERE syncing before, with the firewall being activated.
Any suggestions?

You'll have to delete the current partnership and establish a new one to get WMDC 6.1 to sync with a device that was sync'd with the older (original) version of WMDC.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. The S620 DID sync until yesterday. Before that everything was perfectly fine, with the same WMDC 6.1.

Go in Settings->Connections->More...->USB to PC
and untick use advanced networking.
I had the exact same problem, when I installed 6.1 I can't get any devices to sync when advanced is ticked. And even going back to 6.0 doesn't fix it!

That last hint worked for me...thanks.

Activesync 4.0 not connecting

I'm not sure if I should start a new topic about this but it seems a lot of people have problems connecting Activesync 4.0 (build 4343) and the device. I'm one of them.
I have 2 pc's and I'm trying to connect a WM5 device to both.
The 1st pc (Windows XP sp2) works instantly, connects immediately, lets me create a partnership and I can synchronize.
The 2nd pc (Windows XP sp2) tries to connect but fails. The activesync wheel keeps spinning but no connection is created.
Since I'm not the only one with this problem it would be appreciated if the real tech die hards could shine a light on this.
Thanks.

Help: ActiveSync cannot connect

Dear Friends,
Need your help.
I am trying to connect my TyTn with newly bought Tablet PC HP-TC1100.
Everything was happening well with my old IBM Laptop. But with the new tablet pc, the active sync is not establishing partnership.
When I connect the device, the active sync icon goes green and spins.
But after a minute or so it says "ActivSync cannot connect to the windows mobile powered device".
I did gone through many forums & microsoft web pages..for about 2 days...but no help.
I reinstalled active sync in my pc...hardreset the TyTn...disabled firewall...uninstalled Norton anti-virus & live update.
But nothing works.
I believe this group has gone through so many known problems and found successful solutions.
I have Windows Mobile 6, XDA Live 2 in my TyTn.
Appreciate your help.

Try uncheck 'Enable advanced network functionality" in the USB->PC connection setting . That should work - as reported by others when using WM6. Cheers

This has solved it for me in the past with WM6. Did this solve it for you?
Tons of Thanks to pl55
I Love xda-developers forum for this!!
The solution from pl55 has solved my 2 days issue of connecting my PC and TyTn.
I am grateful to you pl55!
Thanks again,
Ari
Does someone know how to solve the Error "Failed to disable RNDIS to Seriel"?
It occurs when i try to uncheck the USB Advanced Network Functionality.
Edit:
I'm using XP and the XDA Live 0.2 Rom.
Edit2:
I got it. I turned off the TyTn, plugged the USB in and then turned the TyTn on.
Now the Active Sync connection works again.

Dash WM6 and Vista WMDC, can you get it to sync?

I was wondering if anyone can manage to get their phone to be recognised as connected at all with Windows Mobile Device Center (any version) in Vista, when advanced networking functionality is ticked (thats on the phone in Settings->connections->USB To PC. When I connect the network connection shows up but WMDC does nothing and just sits there saying disconnected.
I can however get it to sync if I untick advanced networking, but I really need advanced networking to work and the phone to get a real IP address.
I've read lots and lots about disabling firewalls, checking certain services are running but now I'm clueless. So I'd really like to know if anyone has managed to get this working?
Hmm I haven't had any problems synching mine. Make sure you have downloaded the latest release.

[SOLVED] ActiveSync 4.5 Problem w/Windows Mobile 6

I upgraded my Cingular 8525 today to Windows Mobile 6 with no problems that I can see except for one annoying thing.
When I have my device connected to my desktop, I get an error when trying to sync with my Exchange server.
I have my 8525 set up for Microsoft Direct Push. In the past, the 8525 would sync with Exchange through my computer and it's network connection. Now this not seem to work since upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.
===========================================
Many thanks to the folks who discovered this fix. You would think ActiveSync would have put this entry in itself. I was seeing both error code 85020006 and error code 80072f7d.
One simple registry edit and all is working perfectly. See below:
From: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/acti...shoot-as4x.htm
#23 If you are using ActiveSync 4.2 and have a problem with Desktop Pass-through it may be caused by a Layered Service Provider (LSP) that use the Windows TCP/IP stack. This has been known to occur with ISA Server. The registry file LSPValue.reg will reverse this setting. Microsoft and the Pocket PC OEM does not support users that edit the registry.

Any ideas are appreciated. I'm guessing it is another ActiveSync anomaly.

just untick Enable advanced network functionality
/start/settings/connections/usb to pc/
Hmmm... I did and it still gives me the error. Code 85020006. Cannot connect with current connection settings. Microsoft Exchange - Attention Required.
Other ideas?

Rob
This MAY help you:
right click on the activesync icon in your system tray (on the pc).....click "connection settings".
on the drop down menu titled "This computer connects to:" change this from automatic to "the internet", then apply the settings.
Cheers! Thanks for the suggestion. I got a different error now.
Synchronization could not be completed. Please try again later. Support Code: 80072f7d
You gotta' love it (or not)...

Same Problem
I know this problem, but never found a working solution.
I can uncheck "Advanced Network Functionality", or change to "Work" under connection settings to succesfully sync with Exchange again, but thats not an option for me.
I want to have work and internet connection at the same time, because I also want to sync my IMAP account over the internet, and update my Weather Forecast automatically.
I know when I hard reset my device, it will work again, but I already did a clean install 1 week ago.
Who really knows why its working one day, and the next day it isn't working anymore???
I guess the problem occurs while using exchange-sync and IMAP at the same time. I had exactly the same problem. And in general, there is a problem with new ROMs since other users have to disable "advanced usb mode". That wasn't the case with older versions of WM6.
This helped for me:
1) Using Black Satin ROM
2) Do not use Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool
But my point is:
WHY is it working for several weeks, and then suddenly it STOPS working??
There must be an explanation isn't it?
It seems to be a problem with my PPC, cause when I perform a hard reset it will work again(but who knows for how long?)

Pass Through Problem Solved
I upgraded my Dopod 838Pro to Windows Mobile 6 with no problems. Since then when I have my device connected to my desktop, I get an error when trying to sync with my Exchange server.
I used the following settingscombined and they worked GREAT!
- just untick Enable advanced network functionality/start/settings/connections/usb to pc/
- right click on the activesync icon in your system tray (on the pc).....click "connection settings". On the drop down menu titled "This computer connects to:" change this from automatic to "the internet", then apply the settings.

This works for me. Vp3G 3.0 Rom. I sync with 2 desktops as well as exchange. Although I'd get errors the sync would still happen for the most part. Now it's perfect though!
Great thread - very helpful.
help!!!
i cant sync with my pc....error no 85010014...
also i m nt able to upgrade my rom...whenever i select a ruu wrapper it says failed to initialize...sumone pls help on this...
thanks in adv
its showin the same warning"failed to initialize properly"
i tried variuos roms(shamanix, tnt, funkey's ,etc) but its still not workin...
guys i updated my .net framework n the roms r gettin updated but my sync still doesnt work
Just another data point... I had the same issue with my Mogul. I tried all the settings changes (Internet, Disable Advanced USB, etc, etc) Nothing worked until i read the MS thread and noticed someone got it working by turning on wifi and then turning it off. Worked for me also. Seems like some settings are getting cached somewhere....
Sorry for digging up and old thread, but I thought I would share something related to this subject.
I recently got a new Kaiser and Dell D830 laptop supplied by my work and was quite annoyed to be getting the 80072f7d error when syncing my exchange email via activesync while connected to my laptop with a USB cable.
I had came across the allowlsp registry setting which resolved the error, but since I was away on a 3 week work trip with nothing much to do, and not being happy about basically disabling a new 'feature' to make something work I was determined to get things working the way they should.
Going by the below articles I noticed that the registry entry either enabled or disabled Activesync desire to use LSP's (Layered Service Providers).
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/sams...3050-activesync-4-2-internet-pass-thru-2.html
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/troubleshoot.mspx
As the first link clearly states, Activesync ability to use LSP's is a good thing:
This allows for improved compatibility in environments where connections to the internet must be passed through these LSPs
Click to collapse
So in situations where one might be using their laptop in numerous different locations and on different networks (airports, hotels etc) we would want it left on.
As per the second link:
When other applications install additional LSPs....
Click to collapse
It pointed to the fact that some other application installed on my laptop must be causing the problem.
A quick google on "Layered Service Provider" Dell found me an article on the Dell website mentioning that:
Some versions of the Wave software written for Dell include the file biolsp.dll that adds Wave's Layered Service Provider (LSP) to the Winsock catalog, which...htm Future releases of Wave software written for Dell will not include biolsp.dll.
Click to collapse
So I figured...hmm...I have a bum LSP on my machine, and I have crazy pre-installed Dell software which uses one which is known to cause strange problems. A quick deinstall and reboot later and now Activesync is back working the way Microsoft intended...using LSP's but capable of syncing via pass-thru connection.
I'm happy to have found problem/cause/solution instead of a potentially problem causing workaround....and it passed an hour or two in a lonely Hotel room...win win
other solution
this was posten in on of other messages and it worked great for me...
Delete the partnership with Activesync then reconnect my device and it started working again.
(Make sure you phone is not connected to the USB)
Open Activesync --> File --> Delete Mobile Device
fix outlook, and advance options off did not help..

This fixed also my Problem with 80072f7d

problem with WM6 and Vista connection

Hi,
I cannot get my HTC620 connected to my pc with OS Vista.
The Sync centre cannot find the phone when connected via USB.
Is this a known problem or just me...?
Yeh it sucks, a massive reason to stick with XP and active sync
You can try going in settings, connections on your phone and turning off advanced usb functionality.
Also you can try different versions of device center, here is v6:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ea-9df9-4920-af33-3a0e2e4e7beb&displaylang=en
And here is v6.1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f1-e46a-4a5f-a791-09f07aaa1914&displaylang=en
Personally I couldn't get either of them to work. I'm pretty sure reinstalling wmdc has no effect on the rndis drivers that the windows mobile devices use to connect. Mine got in an irreparable state some how and wouldn't detect anything.
All this effort to get something working which sucks so bad. Its the worst device sync software I've ever seen, like years behind what active sync was. You'll see everything is a few clicks slower and even the syncing task tray icon is gone.
Bump cause I'm having the same problem. Disabling advanced functionality did not work.
Using windows mobile device center version 6.1.6965
Would love it if someone has found a way to make this work...
what works for me,
if you go into your settings > connections > usb to pc > UNCHECK "enable advanced network functionality"
with that unchecked, it should work!
cheers!
I had this problem and I solved removing, from control panel, WMDC and WMDC update, then rebooting and reinstalling WMDC 6.1 again!
(Unfortunately) I've found the problem but no way around it. I mostly access my PC remotely over remote desktop from my laptop. For whatever reason, wmdc only syncs with the account that is logged in locally. I've tried to get it to sync while connected to the remotely logged in account to no avail. I think this one is on MS to fix...
