XDA Rom Upgrade - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have an XDA II with Rom Version 1.66.00WWE. I would like to have the same screen functionallity as the XDA11S (Landscape and Portrait).
I spoke with the 02's help desk and they said "off" the record that I may find help somewhere here. Does any one have the information that i am after.[/b]

Landscape
Hi. It can be done. As far as I know you have 2 choices:
1) There is a piece of software developed by members of this forum. Try a search using the keywords SRS and Landscape. Read through the thread carefully because lots of versions were developed. I found one which worked really well for me ... but sorry I can't remember which one.
Advantage: Works. Quick & simple upgrade. Can easily be uninstalled.
Disadvantage: A number of your applications will not display correctly in landscape, notably the phone dialler (though you can still use it in portrait).
2) Upgrade to WM2003SE (second edition). A number of upgrades have been developed by members of this forum. I am currently using ROM version 2.06.00WWE with the UK extended ROM optimised for O2 users (put together by Finalzero). So far so good with this one for me. Your choice of ROM should be based on your locality and possibly your network. Again, do a serach - but make sure it is for the xdaII/Himalaya and not one of the newer versions.
Advantages: Works well and with more (but not all! - especially ones you add yourself) applications.
Disadvantages: Involves a ROM upgrade (I've been lucky so far but there are some horror stories around). Will invalidate your warranty. The 2.06.00 ROM is not official and not supported so you are moving into the unknown (though my experience has been good so far).

Which one to choose?

i'm looking a rom to replace the official wm6 one.
since this i s the first time i'm doing such thing i'd like to recieve some help.
which rom should i choose?
there are many and the list of features is long and hard to compare between each other, any hint on how to choose and what to look for are well accepted.
thank you.
Lyllo,
Hello and welcome. There must be a thousand threads on here askng the same question.
I suggest you do one of several things:
- Search for each thread asking this question and see what responses were given:
- Look through the threads on here for each rom and from the discussion decide which is best for you (recommended option)
- Choose a number of roms at random, flash them, and see what you think.
I would personally sit down and decide what you are looking for in a rom, eg, speed, stability, speed (don't care about stability), stability (don't care about speed), feature rich versus feature lite, etc.
Once you have done this then go to option 2 above and see what fits. Next read mrvax guides THOROUGHLY (see here...http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/) BEFORE you jump in.
Also it is esential that you read the wiki (see here...http://wiki.xda-developers.com/) BEFORE you jump in.
If you want to change roms safely there is no short cut to assimilating knowledge, understanding thoroughly, then implementing.
Good luck and don't forget to backup your data before you start.

can i go on asking some few things here?
1) wondering what's the difference between Black version and other ones.
2) i've noticed that most of the last releases basically give the same pack of cabs, so which are the parameters to distingush between them? they always define them quite stable, so cant find a way to choose
i'd prefer some more stability in order to have a fully and costant working device, but some speed would be nice.
found the schap's one but can't uderstand if it would be worthy to do an upgrade or not.
basically on this forum i've found that is always worthy...
4) what does at&t means? what has it for?
5) what's about the "big storage"?
thank you and hope i've been quite clear pls excuseme for my english ^^
thanks 4 your attention

Ok dude.....heres ur answers (please note mrvanx has about 3 bottles of merlot in him to cloud his judgement)
1) Black set the standard for ROMs, however the base ROM has evolved a fair bit since the last version of WM6 black (WM6 Black X).......Right now i recommend doing some reading about Pandora Naked 6....and customizing it for your own needs ;-)
2) Speed/Stability are relative to what you have installed....see 1)
3) Schaps ROMs are a VERY good place to start, however if you wish to truely taylor your device you should read into cooking your own ROM.
4) AT&T is a US based betwork......ignore it unless you are in the US
5) Big storage means the ROM has some optimisation added to the IMGFS file system so the storage space on the device is freed up for you to use, in some cases you could see a storage capacity of 80MB or maybe more!!?
...............finally.....
...INSTALL HARDSPL BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!!!! good luck. ;-)
thank you ver much ^ì
extremely clear for 3 bottles of merlot, Vanx.. I'm very impressed
Lyllo, I'd say, first of all, install HardSPL like Vanx said
Next, I would advise you to try out some ROMs. The Black is very complete, there are some others who are very good. I personally use Schap's 4.22 and I like it alot (eagerly waiting for 4.30, hint hint Schap ) If you follow the proper procedure, flashing usually is a piece of cake and within 15 minutes you're up and running again.
You can only really know which ROM you like by trying them out for a couple of days. I tried Black and I switched to Schap cos I like it better but it's very personal.
Also, I suggest you take a look at your Radio ROM too. This isn't customised but it highly influences the performance of your Hermes, i.e. how long your battery lasts, how quick you get a link to the internet, how well bluetooth performs and so on. Read the threads on the various versions and pick the one that seems best for you and just give it a go for a couple of days.
After a while you will find your ideal combination. And that will be the best for you.
Shamanix 2.2
If you are not in to Internet Sharing, I would recommend you try Shamanix 2.2. No bugs. Its fast and stable.
I would recommend to give one of Edhaas's Roms a try, they are very fast AND stable:

thanks to everybody guys.
i'll look around, even if i'm thinkig about waiting for android to give it a try.
these ROMs are wm6 the same, keeping all the M$ defects...

Yeah, thats right.
BUT:
At home I'm using Linux on my desktop system, my previous mobile phone has a Symbian OS. In the last 25 years I was using computers with C64 OS, Amiga OS, MSDos, DR DOS. None of all these operating systems was completely bugfree. Android is based on Linux and much more important: its developed by humans. So again it will have failures
The point is to create a Rom which handles all the given defects in a useful way. And I think some of the Rom devs here did a very good job.
the more static and simple an os is the more stable
the more cutting edge user costimizable and featurefull and advanced an os is the more places bugs and unablity to test all senarios play it's part
thak you guys.
let me just explain deeper that i'm talking about defects, not bugs.
it's quite obvious that human can do some mistake that reflects into bugs, i'm not complaining about that
i was just complainig the way wm6 is designed
anyway, i guess i'll have to wait for android or an iphone surrogate
by now i think i'll at least upgrade the rom from the official to a better in performance one.
there's only one matter, i've just found Schaps' 3.54 one in italian, can you tell me where can i find a list of localized rom in order to choose something newer?
i'd like to scratch as less as possible my ppc, so a full rom, with a sotisfactory set of program would be better.
thank you.
My first question would be are you sure you are using a Hermes/Tytn 1?
You said you were new to all this and asked which ROM you should change to from your stock/official WM6 ROM.
Not many Hermes/Tytn 1's are available with WM6 on them as standard. So just double check you have the phone that is being discussed in this particular sub-forum as if you use the wrong image on the wrong device it can cause big, non-correctable (aka permanent) errors.
At the risk of blowing my own horn, If you are new to this and would like a good start, try my ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355439
This will:
1) Updates your Radio ROM to the latest version - which many people find performs better (although there are apparently some issues with AT&T network - but as you're not in the US, that doesn't matter here).
2) Give you a featureset similar to what the phone manufacturer would have - including Office 2007, a voice command/dialer application, and the latest Windows Live.
3) Gives you the option to uninstall Office 2007, voice command software and Windows live if you don't want them.
4) Will work with pretty much any network due to the inclusion of the HTC network wizard which sets up your mobile for almost every network worldwide - just pick where you are.
5) Gives you about 54Mb of free storage BEFORE you uninstall any addon applications.
This will give you a solid base to starting to flash your device etc too - which is great
thank you guys.
i'm on a tytn II, not on I, my mystake, i guess i'm a wizard not hermes isn't it
i'll take a look.
this forum is really great, never found so many considerate and patient guys!
thank you very much to every one.

BlackRain ROM (Project On Hold) (All Members Please Read)

THE BLACKRAIN ROM RELEASE WILL BE DELAYED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

PROJECT CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE - PLEASE READ POST ABOVE
Introducing the BlackRain ROM Series, based on Topaz/Rhodium Original ROM's.
UPDATE: I will be posting from my PPC A lot of the time, answering questions and so forth. I'm actually making this post, and trying to answer questions from my PPC right now. For this reason, when you ask a question, look in the Third (3rd) post on this page, and see if you question is answered there. I will answer all popular Questions there instead of posting individually. Also, don't worry. The reason the ROM hasn't been posted is this. I only found a File Host a couple of hours ago. Since then, I haven't been home to post the Files. All these updates and answers are coming from my Diamond. So as soon as I get home sometime thru the night, and get set up on the File Hosting site, I will provide you with a link.
Introduction:
The BlackRain ROM Project was started by myself, and a few friends in the Tech Department at the Company I work for. The Development of this ROM originally began for personal use only, and was never actually intended for public release. However, over the past few weeks, seeing how big the request was for Topaz/Rhodium Ports, we decided to release it here on the one and only XDA-Developers Forum.
BlackRain is a fully functional ROM, with very few, known issues as of right now. However, like any new port, there could be some bugs. Any problems you experience, please feel free to report them directly to me, and we'll try out best to take care of them.
Last but not least, I have to state that this Project will be done at the fastest pace we can acheive. All three members who have been working on this ROM work everyday in ThirdPary Software Development. And truthfully, when we get home, we sometimes do not want to work on anything else. We will log on everyday to answer questions and help you as much as possible, but I will not gaurantee any updates dates, or even guess at them. All I will say is we will have a final version within the next 3 weeks.

Known Issues:
*When Adding Contact From Call History, Application Will Crash (Manila DOES NOT CRASH. The Call History Screen Simply Closes & You Return to the homescreen when this happens.) Will be fixed in next version.
*Mark All As Read Feature DOES NOT WORK. Delete All Feature still functions perfect. (Will Update In Next Release)
*AudoManager Tab In Manila Crashes. (This Is a Mistake On our Part. We have included a 2 second fix for this which you can download from below. Details Below.
*Thats All Folks!! We have been testing this ROM for three days now on 3 Seperate Alltel Touch Diamonds, and these are the only issues any of us has experienced. We have not had one single crash from manila, nor any other application for that matter. We are not experiencing any of the more commong bugs, such as ring delay from previous s2a versions, or any others. Th eonly draw back on this entire ROM is not being able to add contacts from call history. This feature works 1 out of 5 times, however, IT WILL NOT CRASH MANILA IF YOU TRY!! In other words, this ROM is fully ready for everyday, heavy usage.
AUDIO MANAGER FIX:
To solve the issue with the Audio Tab, simply download the "AudioTab_Fix.rar" rom below. Extract contents into your windows directory, and choose "yes" when it asks if you wish to overwrite any files. You will be good to go then.
We Will have this fixed in the new couple of days. We simply forgot to include these "fixed" files in the ROM.
Thats it for now. I will be posting screen shots within the next hour or so, as soon as I get home from the office. Once we figure out about posting the ROM, I will aslo update the thread with all possilbe information on the ROM (channel log/features/etc.)
IMPORTANT
Ok guys & gals, heres the big catch. We are ready to post this ROM right this second. It's packaged up, and ready to go. However, it is to large to post right here on the forum itself. And like I said, we did not plan on releasing this to the public until here recently, therefore we never set up an offsite account to host this file.
If anyone wishes to host this ROM for us,we would be more than happy to do that. If no one is able to, we WILL NOT BE ABLE TO POST THE ROM until Saturday, possibly even Monday. No matter what, we will have the ROM posted here by Monday Morning. If you wish to host this file for us, just PM me and let me know, or post a comment in this thread. If anyone wishes to do this, it only needs to be hosted until monday, and we will move it to our own offsite account.
UPDATEWow guys!!!! Honestly, when I opened this thread today, I personally thought that you would be waiting until Monday before you seen this ROM posted. However, to my suprise, I recieved 14 replies & offers of file hosting in under an hour after posting!!! THATS AMAZING!!!!! It actually makes me glad to have decided to share this with the fourm!
Now, I have actually found someone to host ALL of the files for me! Not only will we be posting the BlackRain ROM, we will aslo be sharing the OEM Packages for new version of manila, as well as the new phone canvas. But wait, dont worry. If things go as planned, WE WILL HAVE CAB FILES for these applications as well.
I am actually updating you all from my Diamond right this second, and it is getting kind of rough on the eyes . I hope to be home in a few hours, and as soon as I do, I will be sending the files to be posted and will then share the links with you all. Thanks for the support!!!
NOTE: I am trying to answer as many of you quesitons throughout the thread as possible. Keep in mind, I am, and will be doing alot of posting from my PPC due to the crazy hours I work, and the little time spent at home. So if your reply, or any future updates are a little "off/mispelled", just cut me a little slack lol.
THANKS GOES TO:
XboxMod - If it wasn't for his por to manila, we would have probably never even started on this ROM. Eventhough we done some work to fine tune this, all the credit goes to him period!!!
Dharvey - For hosting all the files that are needed, from OEM's to cab's, down to the ROM's themselves!!
I3V5y - For doing the .cab files that will make life so much easier on you all!!!
Much more that I will mention when I'm actually posting from a PC!!!
Q&A
Q&A SECTION
This Post Is Dedicated To Getting All of The Most Popular/Common Questions Answered. When you post a question in this thread, chech this post first to see if you have been answered. (I post alot of updates from my PPC, and this helps me move faster, instead of answering each question with an individual post)
When Will This ROM/Applications Be Released?
The ROM & OEM Packages are already ready to go. The reason they were not relased when this thread was first opened was due to the fact that we needed to find someone to Host the Files For us on an offsite account. WE HAVE FOUND SOMEONE to do that for us. The person will be hosting every file, ROM's, OEM Packages, & Cab Files. If everything goes well with there File Hosting Site, I will have everything posted for you to download tomorrow.
Is this For CDMA or GSM Devices?
Currently, the BlackRain ROM is for CDMA Devices. However, we are planning on releasing a GSM Version as soon as next week. ALSO, we already have the Topaz Phone Canvas Ported For GSM Devices! We will be posting the OEM Package for this at the same time as the ROM.
Will you be relasing the Update Rhodium Manila Port Outside of the ROM?
Yes. We actually have two different, fully functional versions of the XboxMod Rhoduim Manilla Port. One For GSM Devices & One For CDMA Devices. The reason for this was due to the fact that many features that could be used on the GSM Devices, were useless on CDMA. We already have OEM Packages of both versions. More than likely, these will be released at the same time as the ROM as well, however, I will be talking to xBoxMod about a few things before making that decision.
Will You Release The Phone Canvas Port Outside of The ROM?
Again, yes. I understand that the Topaz/Rhoduim Phone Canvas ports have been long awaited! They will be posted at the exact same time as the ROM, and YES, there are versions for both CDMA & GSM.
Are there any known/major issues with this ROM or any of the Ports?
There are no MAJOR issues of any kind that we know of with the ROM, or any of the other ports we have worked on. Manila is literally the only feature that has any known issues as of right now, and that is only one minor problem (Listed in First post). Other than that, the Phone Canvas, and every other feature of the ROM has worked flawless. We have tested this ROM on 3 seperate Alltel Diamonds, for the past three days not, and the bugs listed in the first post are all we have found. Not one crash, not one freeze. In other words, this ROM is ready for everyday, heavy use.
Will you Be Relasing Cab Files of the Update Manila & Phone Canvas?
Yes. Hopefully, we will have cab files for both the Updated Manila version & the phone canvas, ready to be posted at the same time as the ROM thanks to I3v5y from xda for agreeing to help out with this.
Will Manilla Work On Other ROM's?
Yes. We have run this updated manila version on the Shipped Alltel ROM for an hour or so to test it out, and had no problems other than a bit of lag. We recommend a newer build, at least 20931 or up, however, you shouldn't have any trouble running this on stock rom's or any other custom ROM's. Not that we know of as of now anyway.
Will The Topaz/Rhodium Phone Canvas Work on Other ROM's & GSM/CDMA Devices?
We were able to install the Phone Canvas on a Shipped Alltel ROM, and had no trouble at all, and you shouldn't have any problems with installing it on any other custom ROM's either. We will post details on how to install this once the cab file has been posted. AS FAR AS GSM VERSION GOES, we have tested it to the best of our capabilities. We are almost 100% sure that everything is perfect on it as well, however, I will make no gaurantees until its tested on a GSM Device. But Like I said, I'm sure it's perfect.
If this is the Actual Topaz Phoen Canvas Port, Where is the Toggle Switch in The Lower Left Hand Corner?
I've been asked this 8 times already... Let me explain..... The BlackRain ROM as of now is for CDMA Devices, and that is what the screenshots in the post above are from. Some minor changes were made to the PhoneCanvas to make it fully functional on CDMA Devices, such as replacing the toggle switch with a spearkerphone feature. THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF THIS PHONE CANVAS PORT!!! CDMA & GSM. This change was only made on CDMA versions. The Toggle Button is still there on the GSM Port, as it will function on GSM Devices. Hopefully, or at least we plan on releasing a couple of different versions for the CDMA PhoneCanvas, with different features in its place such as a mute button, link to activate in call recording, etc. But for now, it will simply activate the speakerphone.
This is impossible!!! Your images show 200 MB in one of the Screen Shots! Diamond DO NOT have that!!!
CDMA DIAMONDS DO!!!

It started out as the V1D version, yes. But it has literally been completely stripped down, and redone. There are literally no known issues with manila, after three days of testingon CDMA Diamonds.

I'm sure. And yes we will be sharing the build with the forum. If all goes well, and everyone likes what they see, we will try to get it added to PPCkitchen as well.
We are also working on a side project, Excalibur ROM's. There not as special as this one, but there still pretty nice. There basicly standard 6.5 builds, with manila, w/o manila, lite, packed.
This is amazing stuff. Mind if I ask how you guys are able to work on these roms through your company?

What is the best approach to setup Sat Nav on the TP2?

Hi All,
I have a Vodafone TP2. I was wondering what the best approach would be to get Sat Nav working on my TP2?
I am starting afresh here.. so no views on software etc although my VF may have a freebie ??? I will have to check..
Thanks in advance,
Sam
I strongly suggest you start by using the forum ... I know it's been said before, and will be again, but honestly, just spend a bit of time looking at the threads already started - or use search for some GPS software brands.
I'll give you a heads up on two things I think are important:
1. There is currently no official way to get TomTom working on it as the TP2 is not supported by them yet. Of course many people do have TT working on their devices so it is obviously possible, if you know what I mean
2. Beware of the free Co-pilot demo - reading the various threads covering GPS systems on the TP2 shows that it's a bit of an A**E to remove (the latest update may not be removable at all from what I read today).
Good luck searching!

Hello! Device Contacts problems and Minor helps

hello to everyone here in xda
I just got my sprint tp2 three weeks ago because i needed a winmo cellphone to install chinese dictionary/1,500mah battery/hardware keyboard/ and something different than samsung, (last phone was samsung innov8)
I've modded my phone little by little by lurking, but there's some annoying issues that i've been trying to solve by searching the internet and xda forums but couldn't find it, like:
(using today's screen)
-making the contacts remember the setting "filter by Device Contacts",
it always display "all contacts" <--- Big headache...
-that same contact's menu uses big fonts, i've changed the fonts to small text, but still couldn't make it smaller (attached file)
-adding and removing things on windows today screen(attached file)
-any good converter to change money, mass, temperature....
I've changed rom, but the same problem were still on the original sprint 6.5 rom, software information are:
OS version: 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manilla: 2.5.2010121225.0
ROM : Mr.X ROM 2.5
Rom date 04/10/10
Radio version 2.32.00WF
thanks !

I can't really help with the other issues, but I can easily recommend uConvert as the best measurement converter available for the TP2. There's a basic version available for free (cab is attached below), but for $.99 you can purchase the full version which just unlocks some more types of measurements and units.
More details: http://uconvert.us/
thanks.. ! i wonder if... nobody have this problem on their sprint tp2 or they just use sim contacts???

thanks !, now the other minor today screen customization to be happy with the phone !

[Q] Cooked ROMs for TP2 With Different Keyboards (Original vs. Verizon vs. Sprint)

I have seen some wonderful cooked ROMs for TP2 devices in these forums and elsewhere, many of which with excellent appearance, performance and functionalities. Some cooks are even thoughtful enough to make both GSM and CDMA versions. However, my use of such has stumbled on the following very significant obstacle: the physical keyboard (aka "the main reason why people purchase this device in the first place").
I have identified at least three types of keyboard on TP2 devices depending on whether they are directly supplied by HTC or if they come from carriers such as Verizon or Sprint. Not only do the carrier devices not have a Ctrl key like the original one does, but they also differ regarding other key mappings. There are also differences between the keyboards in Verizon and Sprint phones as to the location of the comma, underline, other punctuation marks, special characters, and functions.
As I own a Sprint Version device, most ROMs I install tend to jumble up the functioning of the keyboards so that I end up pressing one key and getting a different symbol in response. Therefore, I am now using the WM 6.5 update issued by Verizon March 19th 2010, having upgraded Windows Mobile Office and Windows Live through the Microsoft Marketplace service.
I wish I could upgrade do WM 6.5.3 and also take advantage of some goodies provided in cooked ROMS, such as crapware removal, upgraded versions of pre-installed apps, improved interface, etc., but I don't want to scramble my keyboard. I also do not want to have to install keymapping software, for I am Brazilian and already use AEKmap to generate the special characters in the Portuguese language (á, à, ã, é, ê, ç, etc.), so i dont want do complicate matters in that department.
Anyone know where I can find good Sprint-keyboard-friendly customized ROMs? Or, perhaps, some other way of dealing with this issue?
Thx in advance.
Energy ROM has a function in Start>Tools called "Carrier Provisioning" which will automatically remap the keyboard for your TP2 version. Other cooks may have similar solutions.
But I'm not sure how you will get the Brazilian characters you're looking for. There is a Rhodium Keyboard Controller CAB (below) that works really well to remap keys, but I don't know if/how you can get the Brazilian characters.

You're in the wrong forum to ask about Verizon/Sprint phones, since they're CDMA and this forum is about GSM ROMs. Check out either the Rhodium CDMA sub-forum, or (probably better) ppcgeeks.com which tends to have much better coverage for CDMA devices.

Thx for your response.
If there is such a function, I believe it would most definitely help me out. The Energy ROMs are precisely what I had in mind. Is this a new addition? I was reading the Energy forums and October last year there were still issues with Sprint phones.
Regarding the special characters I need, AEKmap works just fine. I just didn't wanto to have to include extra settings (create a third keyboard layout) to correct any jumbling from the ROM.

Given that I was not referring to a GSM x CDMA issue (I originally mentioned that this has already been addressed by developers), I though that the ROM forum would be the best choice.

I might have got it wrong. But I thought you have a Sprint phone (i.e. a CDMA TP2) and you want to get the keyboard working properly on it ? If so, then that's a CDMA ROM issue.
Not trying to be unhelpful here, quite the opposite - I'm suggesting you'd get much better help if you went to ppcgeeks.com and asked on this, because there would be a lot more people with CDMA TP2s there.
