text to speech
elanspeech has a tts-engine for pocket-pc. various languages. it works quite well. not for free however.
The SDK for the TTS for Pocket PC (Pocket Speech) is downloadable for free (evaluation pop up version) on their web site (www.elanspeech.com)
It is provided with c++ sample...
I can not read messages originally sent to my WM5 Smartphone AKU3 in cyrillic (Russian). Does anybody know how to add this support? Instead of words I receive: ?????????? or x^#(&(*?
Please help!
Is it just a problem of SMS/Emails?
Do you have a "wince.nls" supports Russian language?
Yes, I do have wince.nls
here's the long story. This is s Samsung SGH-i607 Blackjack WM5 Smartphone AKU 3.0.0. Purely Cingular-only baby. The default language is US ENG. No manual network selection nor Call Option access when used with non-cingy SIM cards. It has no Windows-1251 support as far as I understand. I have no idea how to add it or what to modify in order to recognize cyrillic words sent in SMS or emails whatsoever. Though I can browse and see webs with cyrillic coding as well as contacts in cyrillic synced with outlook. My previous Cingular 8125 was capable of seeing (understanding RU, UKR or some in SMS / emails /) I used a little prog called AEKMap to have a hardware support for Russian, too.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hey everyone, I am running an XDA IIs at the moment, and have alot of pdf's that I would like to read on my one hour bus ride into the city, I have tried the latest adobe reader but it is slow and not very "reading" friendly. Does anyone have any suggestions, I have tried converting the pdf is .doc format but that is a no go as well because I could never find a coverter that actually worked. I did a little search on this forum but no definitive results. Thanks alot
On my device, ClearVue PDF is preinstalled. But there is also a good freeware alternative (PocketXpdf).
Hey there Alegra, thanks for the tip, will give it a try... will also see if I can purchase ClearVue for a try.
i often convert dpf's to Lit to use the ms ebook reader which is free and let one set bookmarks which is importent if i read whole novels
That might be a good idea, I do like the .lit format, will have a look at that too
Did you tried XPDF?
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/
Freeware and work's great.

If it is preinstalled, you don't need to buy it. If not, there are enough freeware alternatives.
You can also look for the thread "iPhone style browser" here in the forum. That's Picsel Browser, also a very good web browser / Office / PDF viewer.
EDIT: XPDF is a PDF viewer for computer (I couldn't find a Windows Mobile version on their page). There is a port for Pocket PC (PocketXpdf) which I already mentioned.
I was just wondering if any of you know of a .pdf reader that works well on the s620. I am running ookba's 2.80 3volution rom and the LE reader he cooked in is not cutting it for me as my old eyes have me squinting bad to see the font or if I'm zoomed in to a font that I can read I have to constantly scroll right and left to read a sentence and after about 60 seconds of that nonsense I give up. I have been cutting and pasting the content from some of my files into a Word doc but then I'm missing important screen shots, charts and graphs that I need to get the whole picture if you know what I mean. If anyone knows of a better reader or a conversion utility that converts an entire .pdf to Word .doc including all graphic content please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Try Document To Go, it is one of the best pdf reader for the dash.
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Try using Mobipocket Reader.
But first convert your pdf using Mobipocket Creator.
It's great for reading books... you don't need to scroll for every row.
Hi, WP7 support UNICODE?
I see some post where its said that WP7 supports Unicode,
But on my HD7 I cant see Georgian Text (UNICODE)
what part of the phone are you looking at? i know the browser does support it, but i'm not sure about the rest of the phone.
browser (IE),
I just navigate to http://google.GE
and get squares not Georgian text (Unicode)
the net seems to be stuffed on my phone at the moment... thanks vodafail.
i will try and test it when i can and get back to you on what it looks like on my phone. but i always through ie supported it, but if you're saying it's blocks, then i guess not.
if you want to know when it will be, twtter/facebook/social.microsoft.com would be the best ways to get in contact with them and find out.
Hm..., WP7 supports UNICODE!, because when i navigate to http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=yi its Yiddish google page its shows text correct!
Yiddish is UTF-8 and Georgian is also UTF-8
So perhaps its missing Georgian font
but how can I add Georgian font to WP7, and what fonts are supported...
Would be nice, if Microsoft would allow just copying sylfaen.ttf to windows\fonts directory, just like good old wm6.5
Pretty certain WP7 supports unicode since it's based on Silverlight which does so.
Yes it does support unicode. But for some reason it is missing fonts for some languages, like Georgian, etc.
use chevron ringtone installer for add fonts to wp7.
first step u need to change *.ttf to *.wma (chevron will build as ringtone)
after that deploy to ur phone.
open touch explorer and change file name to *.ttf
copy to /windows/fonts
don't know working or not
sorry for my poor english
I think the whole system is unicode.
WP7 has unicode. Cyrillic alphabet is working fine in browser, mail client, Office etc. The problem here is with the fonts.
I do not think it works. WP has some kind of restriction on ttf extensions.
1. You can not copy ttf's through mail attachements,
2. touchexplorer freezes when changing file extension to ttf.
Even worth. I coocked my own rom with Sylfaen.ttf in init and tweaked the registry as well. All I get is blank screen when viewing Georgian pages. Anyone has suggestions?
how to install unicode to HD7
Here is same problem too. I can't install my native font to HD7.
Could somebody help?
Thank in adv!
No Help Yet
I have truyed all kind of diffrent things to make georgian letters appear, but no hope. The furthest I could get is view georgian in MS Word, that's it... On the internet I found out that the unicode support in WP7 is half way through. It has problems displaying some charecter sets. So, I gues will have to wait for M$ to work this problem out.
