Hi, WP7 support UNICODE?
I see some post where its said that WP7 supports Unicode,
But on my HD7 I cant see Georgian Text (UNICODE)
what part of the phone are you looking at? i know the browser does support it, but i'm not sure about the rest of the phone.
browser (IE),
I just navigate to http://google.GE
and get squares not Georgian text (Unicode)
the net seems to be stuffed on my phone at the moment... thanks vodafail.
i will try and test it when i can and get back to you on what it looks like on my phone. but i always through ie supported it, but if you're saying it's blocks, then i guess not.
if you want to know when it will be, twtter/facebook/social.microsoft.com would be the best ways to get in contact with them and find out.
Hm..., WP7 supports UNICODE!, because when i navigate to http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=yi its Yiddish google page its shows text correct!
Yiddish is UTF-8 and Georgian is also UTF-8
So perhaps its missing Georgian font
but how can I add Georgian font to WP7, and what fonts are supported...
Would be nice, if Microsoft would allow just copying sylfaen.ttf to windows\fonts directory, just like good old wm6.5
Pretty certain WP7 supports unicode since it's based on Silverlight which does so.
Yes it does support unicode. But for some reason it is missing fonts for some languages, like Georgian, etc.
use chevron ringtone installer for add fonts to wp7.
first step u need to change *.ttf to *.wma (chevron will build as ringtone)
after that deploy to ur phone.
open touch explorer and change file name to *.ttf
copy to /windows/fonts
don't know working or not
sorry for my poor english
I think the whole system is unicode.
WP7 has unicode. Cyrillic alphabet is working fine in browser, mail client, Office etc. The problem here is with the fonts.
I do not think it works. WP has some kind of restriction on ttf extensions.
1. You can not copy ttf's through mail attachements,
2. touchexplorer freezes when changing file extension to ttf.
Even worth. I coocked my own rom with Sylfaen.ttf in init and tweaked the registry as well. All I get is blank screen when viewing Georgian pages. Anyone has suggestions?
how to install unicode to HD7
Here is same problem too. I can't install my native font to HD7.
Could somebody help?
Thank in adv!
No Help Yet
I have truyed all kind of diffrent things to make georgian letters appear, but no hope. The furthest I could get is view georgian in MS Word, that's it... On the internet I found out that the unicode support in WP7 is half way through. It has problems displaying some charecter sets. So, I gues will have to wait for M$ to work this problem out.

I can not read messages originally sent to my WM5 Smartphone AKU3 in cyrillic (Russian). Does anybody know how to add this support? Instead of words I receive: ?????????? or x^#(&(*?
Please help!
Is it just a problem of SMS/Emails?
Do you have a "wince.nls" supports Russian language?
Yes, I do have wince.nls
here's the long story. This is s Samsung SGH-i607 Blackjack WM5 Smartphone AKU 3.0.0. Purely Cingular-only baby. The default language is US ENG. No manual network selection nor Call Option access when used with non-cingy SIM cards. It has no Windows-1251 support as far as I understand. I have no idea how to add it or what to modify in order to recognize cyrillic words sent in SMS or emails whatsoever. Though I can browse and see webs with cyrillic coding as well as contacts in cyrillic synced with outlook. My previous Cingular 8125 was capable of seeing (understanding RU, UKR or some in SMS / emails /) I used a little prog called AEKMap to have a hardware support for Russian, too.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hi!
I have a Dell Axim x50v (VGA device) running WM5 AKU 2.3, and would really want to have HTML support for email, since WM5 email client doesn't support it. I don't want to download any extra third-party application like Flexmail, but rather would like to know if there is some kind of a plugin for this native email client that allows HTML support.... I heard of WM6 and it's richer email client. Is there any way you can install WM6 email client on a windows mobile 5 device like mine? If not, is there any WM6 ROM that will work on my PDA? (Other things like viewing Internet Explorer Mobile in high resolution mode, or the new "calendar ribbon" would also be a worthy upgrade.)
.... There is a very slight chance that Dell will release an official WM6 upgrade considering how old my model is.... (it came out in 2004, being replaced by x51 models in late 2005).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
For what I have read, you are basically out of luck.
You can't rip the email client out of WM6 since it seems to be very much incorporated within the OS. If you want to enjoy the WM6 email client you have to upgrade.
As far as if there is a WM6 I am not sure and since you have reached a HTC forum, well, have you tried a Dell site?

Quoted for the truth.
Outlook (PIM) depends on Shell, Shell depends on Coredll, Coredll depends on kernel. Bummer.
Like I said, there is no chance that Dell will be releasing WM6 upgrade for its handhelds, so visiting "aximsite" wasn't very usefull for me right now.
When you guys mentioned that the WM6 email client is very much incorporated with the OS, does the same apply with the Internet Explorer Mobile that now supports high resolution, or the Microsoft "MarketPlace"?
Is there at least a third-party HTML support plugin for the native email client, or is Flexmail the only solution for viewing HTML-formatted emails? (I would really prefer a "free" third-party application.)

Try Qmail IMHO the best email program and what is more important free
http://q3.snak.org/download/ take most up to date compilation from Nightly build section and don't be afraid about japanese page Qmail is in english! At the bottom of download page you'll find openssl extension for secure connections.
I can't properly download this "Qmail" program. If I want to download and install it through activesync by first of all extracting the zip file from the nightly build and then running the exe file, it eventually says "not a valid Win32 application" or something like that. In fact, i can't stand that official japanese website, cause i get that same message for anything i try to download from there.
Actually, i got a chance to see how Qmail works (looks pretty nice - it supports HTML, right?), but not necessary to use it. Instead of running it on a PC, i copied right away that zip file to my device, and installed Total Commander on my PPC. However, I had to extract each component for Qmail separately using the Total Commander. Really a disasterous download, if not even. It ended up opening the program, but never really saving it anywhere on my device. After a quick soft reset, there is no more trace of it.
So, SERIOUSLY, does anyone have an alternate cab or exe file of the latest nightly build for Qmail v3 that actually works, not links to that japanese website?
I think you don't get the idea of inslalling it it's not self installing program! unpack it on your desktop than move whole folder with all files (all dlls and q3u.exe) to some folder on your ppc, probably the best is storage card. You can copy files that way by opening activesync and than klicking on explore button there will be your ppc just like any other folder in normal desktop pc. Copy whole qmail folder to it and thats it, you can start qmail using totalcommander on ppc or later create some shortcut to program on today or in programs.
here is packed folder "Qmail" with all needed files unpack it on your desktop and copy unpacked folder with files to your ppc using activesync explore button! Sorry but I can't write it more simply This one works on my ppc as all other versions did!
http://przemek.nekla.pl/Qmail.rar
and one more thing here you can read somthing more about qmail and the power of this program! also how to set it up

Nice!!! I finally got Qmail installed on my device. Seems like it can do a lot more than just let you view HTML-formatted email. So, how well does it compete with the native WM6 email client?
Ohh, you guys never answered me about WM6 Internet Explorer. I find that IE that comes with WM5 takes very long time to open pages, or at least - fairly slow. (Doesn't work very well in the morning when you are in a rush, and don't want to wait for your PC to start up, and whenever it's ready to connect to the internet). Many WM6 reviews say that the WM6 IE is quite faster, supports AJAX, and especially more stable. (Don't know how to explain it to you, but when scrolling too fast the web pages, especially in landscape mode, at one point all the graphics and program icons become as if shattered with black, grey, green, red, ... lines -the images corrupted, that requires soft reset.) Not sure if this is an error, or if WM6 fixes it. That's why I was thinking of overwriting my current IEMobile with the Internet Explorer that comes with WM6. Or is it hard-coded, as well as WM6 email client, into the OS?
One last question. (sorry, if I'm bothering you guys too much.) Everyone knows that IEMobile of any kind does not allow multiple tabs. And i really would have preffered some kind of a plug-in, not a separate web browser, that allows it. I tried PIEPlus, but it also adds way too many features that I don't even need (i need a browser plugin that handles it as simple as possible) that only wastes more memory, and i think, slows down the IE even more. Any idea???
Ok, I know I was asking above lots of things. So, to make it easier:
1)Does anyone know how i can speed up my internet explorer mobile?,
2)And how i can fix that occasional screen error that occurs while browsing the internet that messes up my whole PDA?
So, um, can somebody help me?
Hello! Is anyone out there?
I have probelm displaying Chinese texts with IE and Opera on My HTC HD Chinese version. All Chinese texts become square. It seems that there is conflict with one of the softwares I installed, but I don't know which.
I have tried different browers, and only NetFront 3.3 works.
Is there anything I can to fix it except hard reset?
I think that u have to identify which software couse the problem first, otherwise nobody can help u.
And for the chinese character, I suggest the MSYH6.01 font, it's perfect.
Did you install Lingvosoft? It messed up all the fonts for me. You need to obtain a Chinese version of Tahoma and Courier and copy it over the ones in your Windows dir.
Hi I was thinking of switching from Omnia to TP2 and use Opera Mini all the time due to its speed. Had anyone tested it on the TP2, wondering if the different screen res makes it differcult to read due to size or should it be better.
I just installed it in JBlend. The legibility is OK, although the default font size is a little small. The main problem is that opening or closing the keyboard requires you to restart JBlend, which is a royal pain in the neck as I often want to switch between landscape and portrait mode when I'm browsing.
This problem seems to exist with all JBlend apps.
Install JBed, works like a champ. Will thoroughly recommend it. Much better than JBlend.
On Jbed what is the font size like?
Are there no problems with keyboard as described with jblend?
I just installed the latest JBed and OperaMini now loads fine. The font is pretty small, but readable (by me, at least).
Does anyone know how to create a direct menu shortcut to a specific JBed application (e.g. OperaMini, GoogleMail, etc)? (i.e. without having to launch Jbed then select the app you want to launch). I'd also like to assign a different icon to each application, so that I can tell them apart purely from the icon.
Sorry for the obvious question: JBed? JBlend?
Are these some sort of Java runtimes that one must install on a WinMo device?
There's no Java ME edition in WinMO 6.1 by default?
I don't get why you wouldn't just use opera mobile which comes with it
Because until Opera Mobile 9.7 with Turbo ships, mini opera is several times faster with proper settings.
For the past 3 years I've used almost nothing but Opera Mini myself, instead of the full fledged browsers available (I have bought Opera Mobile as well and a Webkit browser).
It's just so much faster due to Turbo caching and fits my needs.
I suspect many others are in the same boat.

Thanks for the link.
So....following the instructions for jbed...I created a text file on the PC containing only the following line:
"\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_"
(with the quotes included). I copied this file to the TP2 and renamed it "OperaMini.lnk". When I run the renamed file it doesn't know how to handle it - I get the "Open with..." dialog.
Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong??
itm,
I believe what you need to do, is create the shortcut file on your TP2 using a file explorer other than the stock WM one (at least on my Uni, it is not capable of creating shortcuts). I think you can either use the inbuilt function of the file explorer (i.e. paste shortcut or something like that) or create a file and change the file extension to .lnk (as you have done) Once the new shortcut file is created, you need to access the "properties" box of that file and in the box where it says something like "go to" or "link" you will need to paste "\windows\jbed.exe -run s0_" (with the quotes). You then save the change and should hopefully be ready to roll...
Appologies for the vague explanation, but left my Uni at home today, so can't physically go through the process on an actual WM device atm.
If you're still stuck after reading this, PM me and I'll try and walk you through once I'm home.

Couldn't find anything simple so I just made this very quickly: it copies the 2 Meiryo fonts to your \Windows\Fonts directory and sets the appropriate HKLM entries.
Made it for myself to display Japanese properly in PIE... No functionality guaranteed
If it helps anyone else, great!
(P.S. My X1 runs 6.5 with the 2009/7/3 EnergyROM)
(P.P.S. Sorry I didn't compress it but that seems to work better for me from a mobile)
