error accessing image when using ER2003Edit - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

firstly, i am trying to flash the rom following the guide from romkitchen.
after using dos command, i want to double check whether i set the operator correctly.
so i use er 2003 edit for fast checking
NK.nbf and radio.nbf have no problem
except that when i open MS_.nbf, with the correct password type in, it just prompt me
error access image.
i checked the setting is correct.
I want to confirm whether this error is normal
please advice
thanks
keith

download he patched ER2003Edit from the thread mentioned in WIKI.
The original had this problem if you have file type = auto detect in the file open dialog. Choose Extended Rom and it will work.

dont use the romkitchen to get roms for xda2 devices it's ONLY xda1 roms which can be made in the romkitchens

if i dont follow romkitchens, then who can give me a brief explanation or can say easy way to upgrade from XDA 2 to WM2003SE
I used to upgrade my ROM before, but due to people giving a lot of ways to do it, i am getting confuse.
need someone to compile the overall documentation
what i did last time
1. unlock all files and change the operator name to O2
2. put or remove cab files into my extROM, including editing the config.txt
3. flash it
after reading so much, i am still thinking with the genuine WM2003SE, do i need to edit a lot?
i believe i need to change the operator name to O2.
as i am from Asian, i also believe i need to put in Asian Cab, so that my phone, will display local telco.
also when u say genuine WM2003SE, does it means is standard package ?
thanks for advice again

@Rudegar : I hope/think he means following the instructions in the WIKI HimalayaRomkitchen. which is maybe a confusing name, but a good starting point to learn about upgrading (At least that is my humble opinion)

the reason why you are getting this message is becaz after you click on file open rom image window pops up over there at the ottom thers an option giving different file names make sure you have WM2003 Extended ROM (ms_.nbf) selected there to open ms_.nbf or accordingly.
regards
jeetz

yeah thanks, i got it done
appreciated.

"Un-brick" Imate JasJar After Failed ROM Update

First time post ...
I recently downloaded the 1.13.53 WWE ROM update from the Imate site and attempted to install it on my JasJar. The update failed leaving my JasJar in boot loader mode. No reset method seemed to work to bring it back up. Subsequent attempts to load the ROM update gave me the dreaded "Country Code" error. Here are the steps I followed to get the ROM update to succeed:
1. Uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 as downloaded from XDA FTP site. Disabled firewall and Anti-virus. Rebooted machine. I am not sure whether this step was neccessary or not but noted that others had some success with this. At this point I was still getting the country code error when trying to install ther update.
2. Run the update but once you get to the first screen that asks you if you want to proceed, switch to the Windows file system using Explorer and set the current directory to your TEMP directory. If you are not sure where this is, open a command prompt (Start - Run - CMD - OK) and type SET. This will display environment variables. Look for the one called TEMP - that is where you want to go.
3. Search for a file called ROMUpgradeUT.exe or RUU.conf anywhere in the TEMP directory or its subdirectories. When you find the correct directory, copy the files to a new location.
4. In the new location, edit the RUU.conf file and add the following text at the end of the file:
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
5. Save the file and then run ROMUpgradeUT.exe
At this point I was able to get past the country code error and the update began. The radio upgrade was the first component and it took the most time (about 10-15 minutes). The other 2 components upgraded the extended ROM and the OS but only took about 5 minutes each.
After getting the completion message on my PC I also noted a "100% complete" message on the JasJar screen. After a hard reset (soft keys and reset) the JasJar came up with the upgraded ROM in place and I was REALLY HAPPY!
I don't know if this will work for anyone else - use at your own risk but I wanted to share what has worked for me.
BTW - many thanks to all the previous posters who left "breadcrumbs" for me to follow in getting my JasJar back. This community is SUPERB!
Thanks again.

HOW TO: Rom Upgrade - Universal / XDA Exec

Well, this is pretty newbie advice to most of you, so you may think it doesn't warrant a write up, but I had to do some searching for info on how to upgrade my ROM so I thought it would be good to put it all in one thread.
1) Download the ROM you want from the FTP server....Details here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FTP_Site
2) Download MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to your Desktop from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=7644
3) Disconnect your device from the USB cable.
4) Hold the Power button + Light bulb button, and press the reset pin found at the back of the device (fiddly if you have large fingers).
You will notice that the screen of the device is dark but has “USB” and "v 1.0" written on it.
5) Connect back your device via the USB cable.
6) Run the download ROM upgrade application...When it prompts you to begin the upgrade process, just minimise the window or leave it alone (DON'T CLOSE THE PROGRAM).
7) Whilst it is running, use Windows to search for a file named RUU.dll
8 ) Right click file and choose ‘Open Containing Folder’
9) Select all files and copy them
10) Create a temporary storage location....C:\Upgrade....And Paste all copied files in here.
11) Copy the file MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe from the desktop into C:\Upgrade
12) Close the previously started upgrade application running in the background
13) Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe from it's C:\Upgrade location
The upgrade process should begin now…If it does not, run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe application again
Make sure you DO NOT DISCONNECT the cable.
The upgrade takes around 20 minutes to complete.
14: Disconnect the USB cable when told, then push the reset pin. Ignore the advice to do a hard reset by holding down the soft keys while you do this, just push the reset pin by itself. Your Universal will load the new ROM image and you're all done.
Thanks.
Thanks!
There is only one thing, step 4, it is not USB but Serial.

Help!
OK, I made my own instructions. Follow this instruction of mine:
The file is extracted in your computer. Once you run the shipped.exe file, you need to go to:
My Computer
Your Drive (mine is Drive C)
Show the contents of this drive
Documents and Settings
Choose your folder name
Choose "TOOLS" from the menu bar
Choose "FOLDER OPTIONS"
Click on the "VIEW" tab
Click on "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS"
YOU WANT TO SHOW ALL HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
Now go to TEMP folder
Now you will notice a bunch of folders will show up, tons of them to be exact. What you need to do now is click on the shipped.exe file again and "LOOK" for the folder being created because that folder is what you want to copy. If you did not see it created, you have to manually open each folder and look for the files I listed below.
Assuming you found the folder, you will have these following files inside that folder:
ms_.nbf----------------------this file is responsible for EXT ROM Version
nk.nbf------------------------this file is responsible for Windows Mobile Version
radio.nbf---------------------this file is responsible for Radio Version
EnterBL
GetDeviceData
readme
ROMUpgradeUt
RUU.conf
RUU.dll
UI.dll
MaUpgradeUt_noID
If the file MaUpgradeUt_noID is not there. You need to get hold of a copy of this file as you need this.
There you have it, REMEMBER, you need to have the MaUpgradeUt_noID file plus all the rest of the file if you want to upgrade to the ENTIRE I-Mate ROM, QTEK, O2, or whatever ROM you want.
If you only want to upgrade to the radio version then you need to delete 2 files namely: "ms_.nbf" and "nk.nbf". Leave "radio.nbf" alone and click on the "MaUpgradeUt_noID" file to initiate the Radio installation. Basically those 3 files control what you want to update on your device.
Hope my instructions were clear enough for you. Hope this helps.

Did you follow the instructions above on how to show hidden files and folders? After double clicking the .exe file and running it, leave it open then look for the NEWLY created folder in the TEMP folder as instructed. You need to look for it the hard way by opening each folder one by one and check for the files to see if you got the right one.
someone advised me for some extra step, someone please advise is it coorect steps:
"Then you need to make a small change to one of the text files. Look in the directory for
RUU.conf
Open it in notepad and add this line
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
then save it
That’s about it….."
thx for reply christian,
yes i tried searching every folder the manual way but still no joy, I have just copied the rom exe onto my other computer and it worked OK on there and updated my exec without any further problems
Hi All, Linked to the update of the exec software , i noticed the audio playback on tom tom navigator and media files is very jerky to the point you can hardly make out what is being said. has anyone else had the same problem and have you found a solution to fix the problem ?
many thanks

Bricked QTek 9000

Hi
I'd like to take the risk for updating my Dopod 900 for new versions of ROM & radio, but I've got couple of questions.
1. I've got Dopod 900. I do understand, that it's absolutely the same with Qtek9000, but to be sure: may I use ROM update for Qtek?
2. My ROM (1.13.69) & radio (1.04.02) as of 10/12/05 are ancient What version of ROM & radio consider to be stable as of now? I saw in signatures that people using ROM 1.30.77 and radio 1.09.00. Are they OK?
3. I got on FTP and was a bit confused: as far as I understood the latest ROM is 1.30.100 (UNI_QTEK_130100_190_10900_ESN_Ship.exe), but it's for ESN (Spanish???) localization. So in order to get WWE I should use UNI_ORUK_13090_174_10300_WWE_Ship.exe and that update radio separately from 1.03.00 up to 1.09.00 or just UNI_QTEK_13077_176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe? What would u advice me?
4. What is the benefit for updating from 1.13.69 and 1.04.02? Will it works faster & more stable?
Thx in advance & take care
Hi
I tried this and get a 120 (incorrect country ID) error.
Strange, my V1640 from Vodafone is spanish and i want to upgrade to UNI_QTEK_130100_190_10900_ESN_Ship.exe
so it should be ok.
Am i wrong? Is there a way to get rid of that message?

4) Hold the Power button + Light bulb button, and press the reset pin found at the back of the device (fiddly if you have large fingers).
The devide says me:
Boot options:
Enable KITL
Clean registry hive
Format storage
I soupouse that it isn´t the boot loader for go on with the proces... what happens?
I want to upgrade to UNI_QTEK_13077_176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe for use my heasphones motorola stereo... (AD2P..)
Can any body help me?

Please!!!
Edit post number 1 and add as the last step:
14: Disconnect the USB cable when told, then push the reset pin. Ignore the advice to do a hard reset by holding down the soft keys while you do this, just push the reset pin by itself. Your Universal will load the new ROM image and you're all done.
It seems that a lot of people are having trouble after a ROM upgrade by following the instructions on the upgrade program which tell them to hard reset.
Many thanks! PU10 by German T-Mobile upgraded to WWE
I have a T mobile mda pro, any recommendations as to what the best rom is.
Im torn between the new orange rom which is supposed to be good and the jasjar one?
Anyone?
Latest jasjar ROM
Hi,
Can I follow these instructions with my UK jasjar?
Where can I find the latest Rom?
Cheers
Anyone can point me out to the adequate ROM?
thanks

MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe error

Apologies in advance for the newbie question.
I have a new SPV-M5000 locked to Orange. I think I have all of the files that I need to unlock it, and using all three hands I managed to get it into bootloader mode, but when I try to run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe I get the following error: "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe is not a valid Win32 application"
I hope that I am making some kind of really dumb (and therefore easily fixable) newbie mistake here. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Upgrade utility
Hi.
I have the same issue and posted the following on Buzz's site (buzzdev.net) over a week ago but have had no replies. Hopefully someone with an answer will reply to you here?
Quote:
Having read pretty much all the forums on Universal software optimisation starting with craigiecraigie4's excellent guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and extensive reading on the wiki site and of course Buzz's brilliant work throughout this and other sites, I finally feel ready to take the plunge with updating my new o2 xdaExec using o2's 1.30.107 WWE ROM, Dopod's 1.11.00 Radio and my own Extended ROM creation (yet to be made as I want to do 1 bit at a time). I thought I'd put Jasjar's extended ROM (164 I think) on until I have got use to modifying the Ext ROM image as I want.
However, I need to use Buzz'y MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program as the standard installer is telling me there is a country error. Fine, so I have that downloaded BUT when I try to run it, my Windows XP system tells me that it is not a valid win32 application. Am I missing something here? Have I downloaded the wrong program or is there a problem with my XP? I don't appear to have this problem with other programs.
Hope I have included enough info for someone to tell me where I am going wrong.
HELP................
Unquote.
I have just downloaded a version from this forum (about half way down) - I haven't had a chance to test it yet but it IS different and if I run it without connecting my Universal, it does run the program but fails as no PPC device connected so it may be the better version. I will try it tomorrow but if you test it first, let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54210&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25
O.K., that file seemed to do it.
I have now flashed my ROM with the latest non-Greek QTEK build, UNI_QTEK_13077_176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe, and then copied UNI_Unlock_v1.exe onto a SD card and ran it. I got a successful unlock message.
However, when I put my SIM into the phone, it booted up to a plain screen with a title bar of "Simlock" and the following message: "Network is locked, Please input unlock code".
Did I miss a step somewhere? Is it possible that the SIM itself could be locked (it's a brand new Cingular SIM) somehow?
Yes you did miss a step, in fact you missed lots of steps.
Go back and read the readme.txt file that came with the unlock program, everything is explained very clearly in there what you need to do!

HTC Prophet G4 CID Unlock

I think i may have come up with a way to CID unlock the G4 version of HTC Prophet, but i need help to complete some gaps.
As far as i can tell (and please correct me if i'm wrong) the only reason why the "downgrade&unlockcid" procedure doesn't work is because "pdocwrite.exe" can't write back the unlocked file. So, if we could find a way to write that information the problem should be solved...
I think that by performing the following steps one could do the unlocking:
- create an ActiveSync connection;
- run "unlockcid.bat" to get the "acidunlocked.bin" file;
- get the checksum of the "acidunlocked.bin" file;
- restart Prophet in bootloader mode;
- run "Rom Update Utility" and cancel after a successful "Verifying information..." window;
- use a TTY program to connect to the PDA and issue the following commands:
>ruustart
>ruuformat ???? 10000
>wdata ???? 10000
>HTCS
>"acidunlocked.bin content"
>"4-byte acidunlocked.bin checksum"
>HTCE
>ruuflashdoc ???? 10000 "4-byte acidunlocked.bin checksum"
>ruurun 0
>ResetDevice
The knowledge i lack is the exact memory address to place the information.
Also, is the data retrieved by "pdocread" in a "raw" format? And can it be directly written to the DOC by this method?
I think i'm very close, but i really help with these few things before taking the last step... i don't want to end up with an expensive brick.
PS.: i would like to thank all the people in the xda-developers, modaco and spv-developers forums, and all the other guys who have been "burning their brains out" to find solutions, and without whom i could never have gone this far (if one can call THIS "far"... )

T-Mobile Dash rom on a HTC 620 it's possible?

Hi boys
I have a question for you..
Can I load the T-Mobile Dash Rom on my HTC S620Pro unlocked?
I love the T-Mobile Dash Home screen theme and i f it's possible I want run it on my HTC S620 Excabilur
Thank you in advance for the answer
Yep but you might need to CID unlock (obtain SuperCID) which costs £20 ($39). If you just want the home screen just ask someone for it and copy it on. I would post it but I currently have the WM6 Dash ROM on my S620 and it probably doesn't have the home screen you mention.
I was wondering if anyone could help me.I have a HTCs620 and I am trying to flash it with the T-Mobile WM6 Rom.I have had the unit CID unlocked with IMEI Check and still I get the invalid model ID (something like that)I read something about upgrading the bootloader but where do I find this file for the HTC Excalibur......Any other suggestions since I have tried evereything else............
hope this helps

There are different versions of Excalibur EXCA2xxx and ECXA1xxx
You could write an email to imeicheck and they will give you this solution regarding the invalid vendor id:
Tools you need:
===============
- HexWorkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/-
the ROM of your choice
- Winzip or Winrar
- a valid UNL file for YOUR phone
Preparation:
============
a) install HexWorkshop and Winzip or Winrar on your pc
b) in explorer on pc, RIGHT click on the ROM of your choice and use: "Extract files to folder ..." from conext menu Now it will unpack all the files
c) in the new folder you will have ONE file like "HRUU_signed.NBH" (*.NBH) RIGHT click on the .NBH file and use: "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from context menu
d) You'll see on the 5th row EXCA20000 ==> !!! make it EXCA***** (5 stars) and save the file
e) Now RIGHT click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and use: "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from conext menu
Search for word "BsaD5SeoA" (without quotes, case sensitive)
You'll find it around address 0x3FC6C ==> !!! replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" (without quotes) and save the file
ROM-Update:
===========
1) take SIM card and SD card OUT of the phone
2) Connect the phone running windows ce to the pc (normal way).
3) Completely Unlock your phone using our unlocker <== REALLY IMPORTANT
4) After phone is unlocked run unlocker (again) BUT when the unlocker ask for UNL file, remove the USB cable from the phone THEN press "Cancel" on the unlocker select file window (unlocker will close on PC). NOTE: The screen on the device will not show something usefull when in this mode. Most probably it is complete WHITE. !!THIS IS NORMAL!! Don't touch phone, let it like it is!
5) After you closed the unlocker, attach usb cable again (phone has still white screen)
6) start (the modified) ROMUpdateUtility.exe
7) when update finished and device started you will get a message: "Data Crashed, contact service provider" (!NO PANIC!) ==> Simply fix this problem by running the unlocker again and this time select the key file normal way (full unlock process again). In case you have problems please indicate the step letter/number which is not clear/not working for you. If you REALLY do it STEP by STEP exact like described you will have no problem.

Hello,
Thanks for the great guide. When I get to the part to look for the bsa file in the hex editor program I cant seem to find it.Also, when I save the hex editied files do I save them to the folder were I extracted the Rom.I tried to run the utility without editing the bsa file (because I could not find it) and when I tried running it after pulling the usb cord it gave me the error message Invalid Update Tool.Do you know of anyone who can edit the T-Mobile WM6 Rom for me even if I have to pay for it.....
One last question...the rom I am supposed to edit with hex editor is it the new Rom (t-Mobile WM6) or the bootloader upgrade Rom..
Thanks in advance!!
