How to access the registry ? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hello,
When starting my 9090 I get a message "Impossible to find SmartFilter.exe check the file or the access path..." and the Pocket remains stuck for a while.
I suppose the uninstall process of the trial version of this programm did'nt run complete, and left an entry somewhere.
Searching for 'smartfilter' doens'nt give any result.
Where to search for autorun/autoload folder or key in the registry ?
Thanks for any help.
Jean-Jacques

Go to \windows\startup\ and delete the shortcut for that program. I'm not sure that's your problem, but it sounds like it to me.
If not, then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7136&highlight=regedit
or search around. I know there are two versions floating on this board. I think the previous is the one I use/prefer. Also, I've been told that when connected via activesync, you can use windows regedit to access your device???? Not sure though.
Good luck, and if you muss up your device, it's NOT MY FAULT!!!!

No way :-/
Thanks, but it's a glue... :?
Neither Windows/startup nore deleting entries of NOVOSEC/Smartfilter helped.
I'm going to reinstall the trial version, and uninstall again

XDA2S Pocket PC Application CD.

I am a new XDA 2S owner and have a slight problem. The Cd that came with my phone that installs Fonix_voice dial , Zip, True Fax and SPB GRS Monitor on the users pc appears to be blank. There are no files on it. I had no problem installing the main Disc which has active sync etc. Has anybody got a copy of this application CD or knows where I could obtain one please. Thanks in advance.
I am sure you could get a copy if you tell your supplier that the cd is blank, maybe they will lend you one that you can copy or swap the one you have, it is their duty to supply a full working package.
Going to give that a try, thanks for your reply.
go to http://www.my-xda.com/xda2s_soft3.html and download xda IIs aplication suite v2002. its got the missing apps
Thanks very much graham. Downloaded it from your link. unzipped it and when I tried to use the voice dial feature it had an error message. Now what? Youve probably gathered Im not that clever with a pc. Any help gratefully accepted with thanks in advance. should I do a reset on the XDA2s then try again?
Fonix voice apps
what is error msg? - this might give some clues
does voicedial run at all?
u should not need to do a hard reset
a soft reset sometimes helps to get rid of data 'indigestion'
use activsync to install/remove the fonix apps u might try uninstalling the problem program and then reinstalling it again.

Volume Slider hack for BA?

Hi
Does anyone have an volume slider hack for Blueangel? I mean to remap the slider as an standart up/down key...
KTamas
Edit: okay, next time i swear i will use the search button first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18216&highlight=vol+volume+slider
Dit this work for you? On my BA (Original Qtek 9090 Dutch Rom) i do not see any buttons after installing the setup file.
Great hack. Really cool.
Does anyone know how to remove it?
I can't seem to get rid of:
\Windows\AddHotkeys.exe
Even if I do it immediately after a soft-reset, it doesn't work. The file is always in use.
I've tried numerous things, but no luck...
Thanks!
Mike
Hi Michael,
happily i know how to remove the things! I cant get it working so its useless 2 me.
Solution:
Open your (PC) explorer and go to your device (in cradle and on activesync) and into the folder \windows\start up\
Rename or remove (didnt remeber surely) the file addbuttons.exe (ie addbuttons.bak) and reboot (soft reset). You can get an error that the lnk addbuttons.bak cannot be found, if so click okay and continue.
Then delete the program via settings\remove programs and after if necessary, remove the addbutton.bak file from \windows\start up\.
Probably this solves your problem.
(But did you really liked it, did it work for u on your 9090?)
safemode
try to use this:
safemode at http://www.monocube.com/
I find it very useful
This is great stuff, guys!
Thanks!
I'll give it a shot.
Although, funnily, last night I was reading a PDF book, and I started getting used to the hack! I may leave it now!!
Silly me!
But these are great to know!
Thank you!
Mike

XDA Exec PHM regedit won't load

Has anyone else had this problem:
I've downloaded the PHMregedit msi from phm.lu (the activesync desktop installer version) and installed it in the same way as every other add-on, i.e. just double click the msi.
It installs to the desktop machine OK and it pulls up the ActiveSync installer as per normal BUT regedit does not appear on the ActiveSync "programs to install" list.
If I OK the install dialog then the install finishes up as normal but there is no "please check your mobile device for any additional required steps" message and the software is not installed on the XDA.
Everything else that I try installs fine.
Is there some other step I should be doing or is there a problem here?
Thanks
Pete
I just use the CAB file. Here it is:
Drag cab to my device/Documents/ run cab... then I get "unsuccesfull"
Any ideas?
RE
Why don't you try another FREEWARE registry editor, Tascal Registry Editor (TRE), here:-
http://www2r.biglobe.ne.jp/~tascal/download/pocketpc/tre_e.htm
It works well on my QTEK9000 aka Universal
Also read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/UltimateRoundupOfRegistryEditors.asp
Thanks Guys... Should keep me busy for a while/
FWIW, I just had the exact same problem with PHM Registry Editor. It would load up just like another program, launch the ActiveSync program loader, but then nothing would appear on my 8525. I tried soft booting a couple of times and various other combinations with no results...
However, dragging the CAB file to my storage card and then running it from the unit seemed to do the trick. Thanks for posting that cktlcmd!

None-uninstall

Howdy...
silly question, I'm sure. I uninstalled an application from my phone (for the record, RedHalo EDA software)... but now, every time I unlock my phone from standy, or switch it on, I get Notification Error: Can not execute storagecard/program files/redhalo
I really don't want to reinstall the application just yet, but for the life of me, I can't find where startup programs are started from, where i can remove this autorunning from?

Hi,
I think it´s a link in Folder \Winwows\Startup
Delete it with TotalCommander or Explorer.
Otherwise search the Registry for the Programname.

Can't install any .cab, unsuccessful, need serious help!!

I've looked around but no one seems to ever give an answer.
I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 (SPRINT). Every, and I mean every, (even RegEdit cabs) fail to install. I get "Installation of ________ was unsuccessful."
I do NOT get the choice to install onto device--as soon as I select, it fails.
I soft-reset. Nothing.
I hard-reset. Nothing.
I installed form both SD and phone directories. Nothing.
I downloaded the cab again. Nothing.
I am in serious need of help. What's the use of having this phone if I can't do a blasted thing to tweak or personalize it?
Any help welcome. Again, I have listed my problem and what I've done to try and resolve it. I cannot access registry from the phone, and I've tried through activesync but I don't have permission to change the phone's registry.
So this is odd if it happens even after a hard reset. Are there any Exchange security policies being pushed to your phone that may prevent the adding of programs? Have you tried installing anything from the Marketplace? Are you sure that the cab file you are trying to install is for Windows Mobile and is compatiable with 6.5? Can you install a .exe program when connected to a PC?
