Blackberry and XDA IIs - Could be Mar-Apr 05 - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Spoke to 02 Blackberry Support this morning regarding a few issues with the XDA IIs.
Due to current list of bugs (ie, bluetooth etc) Blackberry is quite low on the list to be including in a Rom update. He felt that it would be Mar-Apr 05 before such a update is released!
It seems that even they are directing people to www.smartner.com to try there solution out rather than have to wait!
I think Smartner could be onto a winner here!!!!!

Pylon Anywhere is a better and cheaper product than Smartner's.
You can download an eval from www.ianywhere.com/products/pylon_anywhere.html

Cheers for the update!
I mailed O2 data support last night so it'll be interesting to see what they tell me.
What I really find peculiar is although they are directing people to smartner, and the smartner website lists O2 as a partner, why aren't O2 listing Smartner as a service offering?
I'm going to check out the other product offered here, but between xmail and smartner, I've pretty much got my "push" (really pull) mail solutions sorted out for a few months.

With Smartner's product, it is simply software for your PPC, which is configured via an web based interface at their end. Priced at $50 per year is pretty reasonable for push email.
How much does Pylon Anywhere cost ? Have looked at their website, but it's not exactly clear. Also I get the impression that users also need to install a 'server' type client - is this correct ?
Cheers
Mark

I'm downloading it now and it is a server based installation, so if its for your work you would have to get your IS department to test and certify the software before deployment. Looking at the site its restricted to Exchange/Domino environments only so those of you with Pop3 or Imap access are out of the picture.
LIke I say, i've got a test exchange environment at home so I'll configure onto that and see how it performs, but I doubt its for the end-user.

Hmmmm, I think at $645.00 for the Pylon software, I'll stick with Smartner for time being!!!!! WOW - I have picked myself back up off the floor now!!!!

Remember, thats not counting the price of the software to run the mailserver as well as the time taken to learn how to configure it.

Pylon Anywhere is a server and client solution, not a hosted service like you mention ($50 per person). You need your own server, just like Blackberry Enterprise.
For the price, you get five users (buy in bundles of five users). This includes the server software and client software for Pocket PC, Smartphone, Palm, Symbian and even desktop XP and more.
The client software installs on your device USING THE DEVICES APPS, not some custom solution, allowing you to use any application available for the Pocket PC (PI/AF for example). It is TRUE push; I can push calendar, mail, contacts, tasks and memos if I choose to (only do calendar and mail). You can then also setup what's called ReadySync sessions that occur at scheduled itervals that sync everything (you select) that you don't want pushed (in our case contacts, memos and tasks).
You can also manually sync your device. It also supports SMS Push for those who like having this service (SMS triggers your device to sync - sound familiar).
Fully encrypted, from end-to-end. Users can install the solution themselves via a web interface system, it also provides access to all their e-mail etc (like OWA) if wanted (can be disabled). User can also install via a CAB file and full install program as well.
You can say what e-mails to push and what not to, like HIGH PRIORITY only etc. You can sync your GAL or portions (filtered) of it.
What else do you want to know?
Dave

As i understand it you can use the blackberry client from the extended rom of the XDA II. You could either add it to your extended rom , or simply run it as a cab file.

Where can I get the cab?
z0mbi....where can I download the cab file for Blackberry Connect?
Thanks

Same questions here.....where can we get the cab file????
And do we have proof this works???

Blackberry CAB file
I have BB Connect working on an XDA II succsessfully, Although we now have an XDAIIs i want to get it going on. So can someone please post the CAB file or tell me how i can extract it from the XDAII ext rom pleeease
Shannon

Desparately seeking the Blackberry CAB
Somebody please help us all!

I have it going on my XDA2 and have extracted the cab and tried it on my PDA2K I-mate .
It installs ok but wont work
I have also got it from the MDA III german version this also installs and runs but RIM detects it as a illegal pin. There must be some sort of checking that it is in the correct rom version.
If i knew german i would be right
Looks like we just have to wait for a english rom with it installed .

The CAB
Apologies for the no reply, I forgot to check back on this thread...
I haven't tested this personaly as I don't own a 2s but it works on my SE'd II
Anyhow please find the attached cab

Thanks... do you have the Desktop configuration tool sw?
Thanks so much for sending this along... Still trying to get it working.... looks like it also requires some desktop-based software.
Would you mind posting?
Thanks in advance!!!

BLACKBERRY XDA IIS
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the Cab file really apprecicate it ... next question, I have got it installed alright however when it is running, active sync does not work . So has anyone actually got it to work on the XDA IIS?
Maybe i need a newer rom for the XDAIIS although i think there is only the launch going round ?
Shannon

I installed it but it screwed up my blue angel - it had the memory errors (i.e. no more memory available to run programs), so I tried to uninstall it but could not - hard reset after that

It installed on my Verizon Harrier, but it doesn't register... It's possible that I need to have a Blackberry account, so I'm going to call them tomorrow to see.

You might not need a blackberry account from your provider to make this work, you probably just need an account on any BES

Rogers MyMail

Has anyone been able to install Rogers' Mymail on their Blue Angel?
When I go to the site (mymail.rogers.com/ota) it doesn't give me an option to download the application.
- According to Rogers tech support, MyMail will not work on the BA (PDA2K for me).
- Since you must install the client APP through the browser on the PDA2K, it sees that you aren't using the HP 6325 and gives you an error message.
- This is based on what Rogers told me though, not from my own experience.
- I've been using GetMail on my PDA2K using the SX56 client for a couple of months, and am relectant to switch to MyMail unless there is some real advantiage to do so.
- Security issues aside, apparently MyMail can't be configured to dial-up only when user requested like GetMail. This is a drawback for since I need to "pull" e-mail when I want it, not every 5 minutes (or whatever specified time interval).
- If you do hear of someone getting the MyMail client for the HP running on their BA, let me know!!
Thanks,
Rombo

I guess there may be a registry hack to get IE to announce itself as an IPAQ?
I don't see how the software would be different...[/code]
Where can I find getmail?
- Strange that they've taken it off the Rogers site already. I guess since it was replaced by MyMail, there is no longer a need for it?
- I can e-mail you the two GetMail .exe files, then you would need Rogers tech support to walk you through the install, since I don't recall which you need to install first.
- The files are 5.5MB and 2.9MB

Different answers
Hey guys, I got different answers from Rogers. I've tried three times to get the device app installed, and the last two times I just told them I had an IPAQ 6325. Seems the Rogers Navigate browser provides a direct link to the /ota site, while regular PPC browsers take you to the normal mymail website.
Does GetMail provide real time push? I've been using Smartner and it's not too bad, but only pushed every 10 minutes or so.
Groo - did Rogers walk you through the install?

the did walk me through the install. I told them that I had an Ipaq as well. They claimed that I was seeing the non-wap version of the page.. didn't make much sense... I'm sure the app asks the device to identify itself. I'm sure a simple registry entry could fool it... Not really sure if it's worth going any further..
I thought it might be a Wap thing, so I installed EZWap but got the same result.
How is GetMail working? Is it real time push?

I have no clue, still looking for the binaries for getmail
Rogers Getmail is pull mail only
I've been using the GetMail app with Rogers' Enhanced Wireless Desktop for about a year.
Last Thursday, something broke. When I called Rogers tech support, I was told that Enhanced Wireless Desktop had been decommissioned and that I would have to start using MyMail... There's a catch... Only Rogers-provided devices are permitted to download the .CAB file so I'm out of luck with my PDA2K since it's not a 'supported' Rogers device  !
I told them I don't need them to support my device... Just give me the .CAB file and I'll take care of getting the app working. No dice!
If anyone has the .CAB file, or has some sort of hack to have the PDA2K appear as an ipaq h6320/h6325, please let me know.
Thanks,
Dan.
Rogers GetMail
- I've just posted the GetMail files (in a zip file) for the SX56 client to the ftp site (uploads/BlueAngel/Rogers GetMail).
- Sorry it took so long, but I'm an FTP newbie.
- As of yesterday, GetMail was still working fine on my PDA2K, but Dan makes a good point about Rogers forcing a switch to MyMail, since I recall I had to log in to GetMail through Rogers site to activate it??
- I'll let you know if it crashes, but someone needs a hack for us to get MyMail operational on the PDA2K!!
rombo
I stand corrected... I called Rogers again this morning and the tech support person deleted my Enhanced Wireless Desktop account and re-created it and, once I re-installed the Desktop Assistant (on my PC) and Get-Mail client (on my PDA2K), I was up-and-running again.
Rogers technician I spoke to suggested I find someone who owns one of the ipaq 6320 or 6325 and ask them to download/install the MyMail client on an SD card and just handle the rest of the install through registry edit and file copy (if any files are copied to the device RAM instead of the SD card. Anyone out there try this approach or know someone who'd be willing to lend their ipaq for this test?
Dan.
Got it working
Thanks for posting the executables. You can actually download them directly from wirelessdesktop.rogers.com as well.
The install was identical to Mymail (except the device install actually worked).
Seems to work ok, other than it is pull, and the shortest interval is every 15 minutes to sync.
Hi gohabs,
Are you saying you managed to install MyMail on a PDA2K (client install)?
If yes, can you post the .CAB file (for MyMail)?
Thanks,
Dan.
Sorry
No, I meant that I got GetMail installed. I had the same problem as you guys with MyMail on my XDA IIs.
I got the MyMail desktop app installed and configured, but could never get to the ota web page to install the device app.
Getmail works fine on the XDA, so I'm sure if someone can extract the cab for Mymail it will work as well.
Here it is...

Blackberry Software....

When I had my O2 XDA Mini S, I had the option to run the Blackberry Software (not that I ever managed to get it working!) - is it available anywhere for the XDA Orbit?
I've upgraded the rom to Black&Blue V3 if that makes any difference.!
Thanks
90 odd people have looked at this post, and not one has replied - I guess that the software isn't available then!
Ok, so what Push Email software is recommended? I have tried Emoze and didn't find it that reliable - I need something that will ideally not require me to leave my home PC on to forward the email.
Thoughts?
There is other posts already for this but the main reason blackberry software doesnt work on the orbit is because on your old Mini you would have a PIN in settings/device information but on the orbit this is lost.
hope this clears this up for you.
P.s for push email try mail2web

Got bbconnect working!

Thanks a lot for this GREAT forum! Finally got blackberry connect working on my artemis! Downloaded v 4.0.0.92 from this forum last week, thought I'd give it a go. It's been a month since I tried all other versions 4.0.0.84 to 4.0.0.91. They ALL made me sick, had to restore a few times. I was amazed that it worked this time, and still works! I have my work mail coming in from BES, and also configured 3 other mail accounts (gmail, isp and my domain), works like a charm.
of course, thanks Meschle for the fantastic touch 3.01 rom!
cubist, what radio are you using?
how did you manage to get the BES to work? Is there any trick or magic?
Radio 3.07.90, which comes with touch 3.01, no alterations made to registry, like some suggested in other posts for older versions of bbconnect.
Once you manage to get connected, setup personal mail through secure blackberry browsing. Create a login here too for web access, so you can resend service books when needed! Once that is all ok, you should get autoconnected to blackberry over edge. My plan is paid by my company, and we have a bes server with lotus notes. I called our dept to reactivate (they have to activate account with password on server, it works only for 48 hours) Then reactivated with password.
Cubist,
thanks a lot, mine is working as well. Just did as you proposed.
glad I could help you!
by chance, do you know what happens to re-activation after having flashed a new ROM? Do you need to go through the re-activation process again?
you can resend service books from the web. If you have the same radio and bbconnect can install on the rom, you should get connected. For the BES part, I'm not sure. I think the key used to register with the BEserver contains a device id, I'm not sure if that changes when installing another rom. I will know shortly: when touch with wm6.1 comes out, I'll test it.
Hi and wonder if you can help!
I am with O2 in the Uk - XDA Orbit WM6
Got BSoftware 4.0.0.92 and got 1 of my emails working okay, but when adding a 2nd one got the following error message:
Service Book Management
Device Message Store Limit.
You must delete a message store to use service.
example: [email protected]
Do you happen to know the way around this?
Many thanks....Carlos
Some providers only allow a certain amount of mailboxes to be added. Your BES account is the first, probably you can't add more than 1 account.

WORKING Blackberry Connect configurations

Hello All,
I believe there are many like me who would love to get the Blackberry Connect Software working on their HDs. At the moment, it seems like black magic how to get it working and the other thread doesn't really contain much useful information on working configurations.
So far, we know the following:
1. It is Radio, ROM and SIM card dependent.
2. You need to have the BB service provisioned on your SIM and have the new style SIMs that support full data functions.
3. Latest version of BB Connect required for TouchHD (4.0.0.106). This is available from HTC Asia on on the internet (just search these boards)
What i'd like to use this thread for is for people to post WORKING configurations with as many details as possible regarding the setup/installation procedure. I'll start with the only configuration I've managed to get working so far.
ROM: Dutty's 1.9b extreme
Radio: 1.12.25.16
SIM: Blackberry service from MTN
Installation/Procedure:
- Flash ROM
- Install BB Connect software
- Provision SIM card
- Connection was activated after a few hours.
Other information:
- The BB connect service defaults to IE as the browser.
- BB Push email service worked but with lag. SEVEN was much better in this regard.
- I was unable to get messenger, stock tabs, weather update, google maps, etc to use the BB connection
- BB push email service creates its own mail folders on your device regardless of what you already have.
- BB email folders do not have full flip to scroll to next message functionality in TF3D.
- BB email did not display pictures, etc
Please lets have other users chime in here and perhaps we can get a Wiki section created for BB Connect on the HD. Lets please keep to the same format as above to keep the information easily referenced and trackable.
Thanks
Thanks for the info, I have been able to run the service with all ROM's expect for the ones built on 6.5 OS's..
Connection was instant in each installation (right after a reset I am connected - then I'd push my service book -- done)
I do not have any lags in mail arrival.
Its satisfactory for me- but as you said you have to stop the BB service prior to any attempt to use the data connection for other purposes (IE, weather...etc)
Only thing I miss is the blackberry messenger.
Thanks for the thread.
Taiseer
Thanks for responding Taiseer.
Could you tell me what mobile operator and country you're using? Secondly, what do you mean by push your service books? Is than an automatic process or manually performed by you? In the installation that worked for me, I didn't do anything of the sort.
After installing did you have your BB sim in the phone or did you insert it later?

I am currently residing in Oman and its Omantel...
and normally what I do after the 1st installation and device reset, all of my mail arrives to a new mail account named system..(and I won't be able to send or reply to mail from it), so to be able to get the rest of my accounts and have a better use out of the service, I log on to the Operator's blackberry's site and manually demand a service book sending.. in few seconds mail arrive into auto formed mail accounts..
As far as the SIM card its always in the HD..
It looks like SEVEN may be better for me then, how does battery compare between the two.
Thanks for the information Taiseer. My provider does not offer the internet log on option so I guess I will need to get them to push the service books to me somehow. When I install the software with the sim in it, i get nothing after a soft reset. No pin and no ip address. Did you find that MS Live or any other microsoft service was able to use the BB connection or is it just the browser?

Seven has a good service and I've had no complaints. The BB data plan is the cheapest where I live though. So if you can get unlimited (or cheap) data packages, stick with SEVEN. I didn't notice any differences with battery life.

No - you got to stop data connection, but because I am used to my WIFI conection and hotspots everywhere I normally do not discounnect the BB connection, DO you??
Whilst my service worked I was too scared to disconnect the BB connection so I just didn't use any of the other services. It sucked. I've just flashed Davideuck's newest V 2 ROM so we'll see if i can get it working.
Okay, great news people. I've got my service working on Davideuck's Version 2 rom. It required a call to my network provider. For all those installing on a HD, its down to your provider regardless of what they say.
Taiseer, thanks for the heads up about the blackberry page for my subscriber. I managed to track mine down and set up my email accounts from there.
Woohah!
I am using a stock ROM 1.14.405.3(22273) WWE, Radio 1.09.25.15
I hate to have to use a cooked ROM, I've used Dutty's ROM's on my Kaiser and they worked well but this phone works so well I don't want to mess things up.
I believe the stock ROM should work as well. Be sure to hassle your service provider to set it up on their end. I think some providers are not pleased to offer the BB service for non BB phones and do not fully enable the service (they can tell that its not a BB phone from the PIN number). After a talk with my provider, I was told to reset my phone and presto! all was working.
It works on on my Kaiser so I know it works on my T-Mobile plan. I may mess with the radio's to see what I can do.
Sorry to keep adding to this thread but I have some new developments. I upgraded the ROM to 1.19.831.0 and Radio 1.09.25.14
I have version 106 and ran the desktop software, it switched the PIN from the Kaiser to the HD. I changed the version reset the device and now I have the service books and an IP address.
When I look at the status I get network available>data tunnel available then not connected.
Update, since it wasn't working I tried to reinstall BB Connect on the HD, when I tried to configure I got the PIN 0 error. As a last resort I put the SIM in the Kaiser and configured it, then switch to the HD, configured it and it worked!
I'm not sure but it looks like changing the PIN was all I needed to do.
blackberry working great on orange uk htc touch HD standard phone
I downloaded the blacberry install files form a link on this forum, I belive it was the same blackbery files from HTC.
Rom Version 1.19.61.1 wwe
Radio 1.09.25.14
Installed the BB app to phone - then went to start settings > system >" click" icon blackberry.
Blackerry connect (identity) tab shows 3 bits of info
PIN said something like waiting for PIN
IMEI 78*******************
IP Address No connection
Spoke to orange asked for blackberry service. they said 5 permonth £ 250MB of blackberry
Orange sent me text message with a pin number and told me of the orange blackberry site to go to I think it is blackberry.orange.co.uk
On the blackberry.orange.co.uk I enterd the PIN number from the text message and IMEI number.
My phone recived a text a turned it of and turned it back on.
Checked the Blackerry connect (identity) tab
PIN was now populated with the pin that was in the text message
IMIE still there
IP Address says connected.
Went back to the blackberry.co.uk setup my email accounts with blackberry the pressed service book. looked at my phone 20 mins later and my there email accounts were there 2 for work and 1 for home.
I dont do much surfing on the phone but opera works and and the blackberry is fantastic.
orange were very helpfull on this.
But saying that blackberry is really a network service Windows Live I belive does a similar thing you get push email.
I'm glad to see people are getting it sorted. There are certainly many other options for connectivity and push email. Some even work better than the BB service. The reason i'm on the BB service is that its the cheapest way to browse regularly and get push email in my part of the world. When a page can cost as much as 30 pence via gprs versus 20 pounds a month for unlimited data on the BB plan, its a no brainer. Yes, I'm painfully aware we're being gouged but theres no getting away from that.

Very strange, because I used earlier bb connect on diamond and everything worked...
Any solutions?

Its probably because you are only having the "system mail account" you should try to send your service books to your winmo via provider

Problems with BB connect on HTC HD
Hi guys,
after setting up successfully BBconnect on my HD, I noticed that when I send emails from my BES account on my laptop, I always find them in my Inbox (not in Sent Items as I would expect) of my HD reporting me as Sender and no body message in it. Instead, should I send emails from my handled device, I always find them in Sent Items of my device as expected....Has anyone of you faced the same issue?
Thanks...

Blackberry Connect

Will Blackberry Connect work on the Touch Pro2?
I have installed version 106 and no luck as yet with t-mobile., stiil pending.
I just put the blackberry service on the phone and they said give it another day to activate the service.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
i have been stuck on this issue for a week... no luck...
wrote to htc and they came back saying that look for updates on its site... now that's a really long shot..
would suggest that you too write to them... lets put some pressure..
this is a business phone according to them... then bberry is as much important!
I havent bought this phone yet, but I would only be able to if bbconnect is working.
Could you try to change the device ID to TouchPRO in settings/system/about and change the registry HLM\System\Versions\Aku to .1.6.0
But you need to change it BEFORE you install BBConnect
Please indicate if this makes any difference, otherwise we'll need to wait for a new bbconnect version
When i had installed the software without the above settings, i had a PIN and IP address - but it would not connect.
Later on i had hard reset the phone...
now i re-installed the software with the settings u mentioned, but i do not have a PIN or IP Address and bbconnect will not register either...
could u please tell me how to un-install it safely too? as i do not want to do another hard-reset now!
(btw, i had done a hard reset on the phone earlier coz after i tried 106 and uninstalled it, i installed a previous version 100 and it hung my phone.... )

we cannot connect to exchange alone (that incurs data charges and is not roaming friendly - especially international).. we need bberry coz that keeps us mobile from country to country that we visit...
common guys... its just a few lines of code u hv to modify... am sure...
Hi,
Have you tried this?
See WM65 solution here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502623
I think you have to play with the version number of your WM...
In case of WM61
I used this:
HKLM\System\Versions\AKU key, change whatever in there (like .0.0.3) to .0.4.2
Br,

I'm an Aussie wanting to purchase a Rhodium...
I'm upgrading from a 7100G blackberry handset. (yup a massive upgrade). Although the most critical part of my phone... (apart from making phone calls) is my blackberry push e-mail...
I can't afford to change over phones until I know that the Blackberry Connect 4.0 works. I know that HTC have a special version of the Blackberry Connect for the Diamond, the Touch Pro ect...

With Windows 6.5 rumoured to be released within the next month I'm speculating that we won't see Blackberry Connect 4.0 working on the windows mobile 6.1

Hi,
Have you tried this?
See WM65 solution here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502623
I think you have to play with the version number of your WM...
In case of WM61
I used this:
HKLM\System\Versions\AKU key, change whatever in there (like .0.0.3) to .0.4.2

Me too!! Not working.
Had T-mobile and Rim on the phone together with no luck.
Well I contacted HTC to find out when it would work and this was the reply I received:
Since Windows Mobile is our platform for the HTC handsets, we would push customers to use the Microsoft exchange server.
The device comes with microsoft exchange server support and also supports IMAP and POP3 accounts.
HTC is not going to release any Blackberry connect applications and it would not up to HTC to do this. If Blackberry wants to develop an application and release it to HTC, you may need to check with RIM/BB.
RIM (is the company name)
Blackberry is the platform
Hope this information helps.
Sounds like the person I was contacted by either has no idea or there's no plan for blackberry connect to work on the touch pro 2.... Oh well looks like I'll have to purchase a storm...
Just be patient...
I'm more than sure that we will get BBC to work the same way we did it before. By manipulating the Device-ID string in the ROM (from HTC-Rhodium to whatever) BBC should recognize the device as "allowed" and it _should_ work. So all we have to do is to wait for the HardSPL-guys getting it done so that we can flash custom ROMs. Once this is done, I assume we will have BBC up and running.
Blackberry Connect.
Blackberry Connect does not work on the device, however, it seems to work on the HD.

Has anyone tried this?

make sure your AKU is set to .1.6.3. I have bbc .106 working fine on my touch pro2 with this and the SetModelID solution

I am planning on upgrading from Fuze to Fortress (TP2) and want to see if this works. You need to make sure your account is provisioned for BBConnect service.
Didn't work for me even after switching system ID to identify as Raphael, on T-Mobile US.
It works fine on the Rhodium. Check out the thread entitled "blackberry connect, not yet working" It got working about halway through. I use BBC on mine but I needed to make a couple of tweaks as outlined in that thread.
Dominoid - Rhodium - Blackberry connect
very interested in your asnwer dominoid.....can you send us more specifics as to how / what / where. We are dying to get Rhodium work with BBErry Connect. Which version worked with yours?
Does anyone know the orignal AKU for the ATT Tilt2?
I hate cross posting in threads, but somehow people decided to open different threads on the same topic. (Maybe a mod can merge them into one if he reads this).
Read more for a final solution without using SetModelID and starting and stoping services each time:
