GPRS with xdaIIs - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

hello all,
How can i make it so, GPRS stays on all the time?
right now, it connects to GPRS when an internet connection is needed by an application, but diconnects when done.
Can I have it on all the time, even when the xdaIIs is idle?
Didn't have that issue with my previous xdaII.
Thx in advance for your help.
Glad.

um, I'm VERY new to this & really feel that I shouldn't be answering a post for at least another few months, but have you tried changing your preferred wireless data conection channel to "GPRS"?
For me after I do that it just stays on untilI shut it off.

Thanks for the reply,
where is that setting located? can't find it

connect to the gprs munually from the signal icon and it will stay on forever or until you lose signal. If you set the gprs to be your default connection and another app calls it, it will disconnect automatically when done. So your best bet, and this is what I do and I stay connected 7-10 hours at a time is to connect manually and it will stay on.

Hi, resently I'm having problems with the Internet connection. I used to have internet connection practicly all the time but know very often on the day I lose conection and have the soft reset to conect again...
Some of you, can sugest something?

Disable GPRS on BA ?

Hi, I use wi-fi hotspots and the like, and am sick and tired of my phone trying to connect to GPRS when wifi fails etc. I would like to be able to turn it off and on via a menu, but if not I will settle for hacking it out.
Unless I need it for some reason I don't know.
any ideas ?
You know, if you don't have any GPRS connections for it to connect to, it doesn't connect.

Blackbeery GPRS and WIFI drives me nuts....

Hi there!
Has anyone an idea, how to make the Wifi and the Blackberry GPRS
Connection work at the same time?
It drives me nuts, as i am turning on WIFI, the Blackberry GPRS gets
disconnected. BUT, in 99% of the cases it reconnects the GPRS within
5 seconds. So there is not enough time to connect to any WIFI AP.
As i want to sync via WIFI its very annoying.
I know i can turn of the Radio, so that GPRS is disabled, but then
i cannot receive any phone calls, thats NOT what i want.
Any ideas, anyone???
cheers

PS: i forgot: Using Blueangel MDA III from Austrian T-Mobile, with newest Austrian German ROM from T-Mobile (like the one on the xda ftp).
PPS: Thanx for the extrom unlocking tool, really good stuff.
I must admit, I've never had that problem, but I make sure that I close ALL applications before turning on the WiFi. It can take 10-20 seconds for the WiFi interface to estbalish a connection and get an IP address. During that time, the device will try and connect via GPRS when you launch email, internet explorer etc
Hi!
The great problem is not an application. the problem is the
blackberry service, which you cannot deactivate without loosing
all data and settings
thanks to t-mobile

Ouch that could get expensive if you didn't realise - I'm glad I don't have blackberry services, just plain old POP3 & SMTP email
hi!
no it actually doesnt, because t-moblle has an extra gprs setting for the blackberry client. when you are connected with the blackberry gprs, there are no costs. on the other hand, you can only use the blackberry service with this gprs connection, no internet, nothing.
its really annoying. No one else any ideas about that ??? pleeeease
cheers

Blackberry and GPRS
Hi,
just use a taskmanager like "supertasks" which supports starting and stopping of services. Go to the services tab and stop the blackberry service. Then you can use WiFi as you like and afterwards you just turn on the service again. Nice handling so.

Is it possible to use GPRS whilst cradled?

...I have just upgraded to T-Mobile 1.42 and decided to subscribe to T-Mobile UK's Instant Email using Blackberry Connect. This of course uses GPRS and works perfectly wherever I go.
At work, however, I often leave my phone cradled. When I 'sync-up' to the PC, I lose my GPRS connection, and forcing a connect drops the ActiveSync connection. As such, Instant E-Mail stops working.
Some may argue that if I am synced up, I instantly get all my e-mails through the cable anyways, but in fact I also get personal e-mails via Instant Email.
1) Is the disconnecting normal behaviour?
2) Is there any way of keeping a GPRS connection whilst ActiveSyncing?
3) If not, is there any other way of using BB Connect in this state?
Regards,
Darren
disconnecting is normal behaviour - I have not found a way to avoid it
Hi!!!
It´s normal, you only have one chance, sync or GPRS.........if you want to conect by GPRS while your PDA is in the cradle you sholud disable USB conection on active sync
PD:excuse me for me english

can i restore lost data connection?

I often lose my data connection. Only thing I know of to do is reboot, which takes a while. Any way I can force data connection back on? I cannot choose it Comm manager.
Hi Rocky2,
I have the *exact* same problem. I don't have a solution, though.
I've tried disabling all other connections (Bluetooth, WiFi, Activesyc) but no go.
It appears that the connection must be automatically started when there is an application asking for it (e.g. PocketIE). The error mesage I get is that the "The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again."
This suggests that it thinks there is a connection, so it doesn't need to start GPRS. I haven't been able to find out which connection is active.
Mike
It's frustrating because even firing up an application that needs the connection (Outlook e-mail, for example) won't start the data connection. Instead, Outlook fails because it cannot connect to server. Maybe WM6 will be better about this.
Tmobile wm6‘s tzones starts up the data connection even after you losing it everytime I try.
Try turning off the radio, then back on. This should force a new connection.
Hi merde,
Turning off the radio doesn't work for me. Besides is very slow too (typing sim pin code..). Even with all connections disabled, some how the connection manager still thinks there is a connection.
Like rocky I'm hoping WM6 resolves it.
I'm considering a hard reset, see what that does..
Hm...
It appears I have the same problem for Wifi... Today it happened twice that I had a wifi connection but no SSID (network name). And then same problems like with the GPRS...
Strange

TouchPro Wifi loses connection :-(

Hi friends,
I have a terrible problem with my fine TouchPro2.
It constantly loses the wifi-connection. My old TouchPro1 never had these issues.
I have the actual HTC stockROM installed. Tried WiFiMonster - but again. After a few seconds it loses the connection.
Sometimes I'm able to download three, four mails, but then it breaks again :-(
Any idea?
re
To be more specific: WiFi goes off after 30 sec. or so. :-(
does wifi turn off? or simply disconnect? if it's disconnecting, first thing i'd do is reboot my router with wifi enabled on the phone and see if the connection improves. if wifi is physically turning off i'd guess it's an issue in the rom. maybe try another rom? and make sure wifi is set to "best performance" on phone.
Is this everywhere or on a specific router?
Does your connection drop after a certain activity (e.g. screen going into standby, opening a specific program, etc.)? Also, have you tried to backup your device and perform a hard reset?
Similar Problems
I've been having similar problems for about two weeks now.
I have tried several things like hard reset, soft reset, changing the rom, playing with the wireless connection and just about everything in the connection folder but no.
I my case, when I turn the wifi connection on through the comm. manager, it slows down the phone while its trying to connect and then it just goes off, leaving me with t-mo data connection. However, when I turn off data connections in comm. manager, it connects to the router and stays connected but it does nothing with the connection. Meaning, I am connected to the router, but somehow I won't be able to use the connections.
If anyone have any suggestion(s), I would greatly appreciated it.
solved...
Thx guys,
I performed a Hardreset and testet one by one the installed software... and found it: I installed a CommManager and it caused the WiFi-Problem :-(
thx

What do you mean "slows down the phone"?

If your wifi connects but you cant get out, check to make sure you don't have the proxy box checked in connection settings. I have seen this box mysteriously become checked in the past.
Just a little comment
I will be getting TP2 very soon, but speaking of WiFi problems in general..
I had 3 phone: TyTN II, Samsung Omnia & iPhone 3g. only the TyTN could connect to WiFi at home while the other two can connect but will not get any data... however, they worked flawlessly in numerous other locations...
the problem was with my linksys router
apparently some older routers not compatible with the newer devices...
just wanted to share
Ok. As of today, it seems to be working, thanks for the help. However, I think it might have been my router. I think it had something to do with overheating because I put my modem on top of it. But the funny part was, everything, with the exception of my phone, was connecting. However, the connection was never really strong or reliable.
Anywho, thanks for the suggestion, even though it didnt really help me, I appreciate the gesture.
