Hey guys, i just got a new T-Mobile Dash and it's started acting up from day 2. Turned it on today and it doesn't work, it doesn't get past the Windows Mobile screen (from what i've seen this looks like a fairly common issue). After reading around i've tried to flash to numerous roms but only 2 of the official t-mobile roms have worked (others gave error 270, wrong vendor, wrong device, etc) but still the phone doesn't get past that screen. I've tried to do the hard-reset trick a bunch of times and still no go, any clues? Thank you.

Take out the memory card and try to boot her up. If that does not work.. call T-Mo and get a new one
To get past the error 270, download the SDA Unlock app. That should get you past the error there. As for not getting past the Windows screen, I had that problem too. You should be able to get it working by hooking it up to the charger. I found that my Dash was not reading the battery as having a charge. I am not sure if I have solved the overall problem yet but, just in case, you might avoid using the USB as a charger and go with the wall charger. Just keep it on the USB long enough to sync and unplug.
Hope that helps

do a hard reset hold da 2 soft keys and press the on button keep holdin da soft keys until u see a screen asking u do u want to do a hard reset hope dat works
Thanks for the responses guys but i've already tried all that. The only thing i haven't been able to try is do a hard reset with the wall charger plugged in, for some reason it doesn't matter how many times i do the steps it never shows me the black screen. I might be on the same boat as you because the battery i got with the phone is some cheap counterfeit chinese crap. I'll keep trying to get to the black screen with the phone plugged in but any other help would be greatly appreciated.
Btw, i can't do anything with T-Mobile because this is an unlocked phone i got somewhere else and can't return it so i'm stuck trying to make it work.
Check sticky to make sure doing correctly
Hard-Reset & Bootloader there is 2 x options there.
I was doing it right.
So after a million retries i got the phone to boot and do the cold boot thing. Then, i did the usual steps for putting a newer rom with WM6.1 on it (RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_080408_WWE). It worked, rebooted and went into the home menu, i thought i had brought it back from the dead until i inserted the sim. I got the sim failure message and when i pressed done it crashed. Now it won't go into the home menu no matter if the sim is inserted or not. Already tried to see if the sim was making good contact by putting pressure on it, no change.
This is too frustrating.
Ok so i've semi gotten it to work by booting it up without a sim, turning flight mode on, inserting the sim and then turning flight mode off. I get asked for my pin, the phone registers and i can make/receive calls. The problem is that a) it eventually loses the connection and b) i don't want to be doing this every time i turn the phone on.
Any ideas?
Even after uninstalling it with titanium backup, root explorer and native android in menu it keeps popping up in notification bar with these ill-effects:
It closes out any apps or programs I was using!
It automatically puts me on speaker when I make or receive calls
Screen orientation cannot be disabled
Screen lock cannot be disabled
Volume is lowered when playing music
stays at the same volume and cannot be adjusted.
Some suggestions were to disable automatic startup and bluetooth in Car Home's menus when it pops up, I did not see such option. Now the menu does not pop up anymore, only the steering wheel icon pops up in notification bar to let me know its here to make my day a living hell again. Everyday, Every Hour, Every minute. I've done full wipe, cache, dalvik, and reinstall of cm6 6.1.2 and it just wont GO AWAY! Please HELP!
Posting in general forum because I'm not getting any help in Q/A!
You know what, my phone started exactly the same thing yesterday lunchtime and it's bloody annoying.
One thing that bugs me is that the headphone volume is now jammed at "very loud" with no way to adjust it.
Likely cause: pins 4 & 5 of the USB port shorted out. I would recommend carefully cleaning the USB port on the phone to see if that helps (it didn't for me).
Unless anyone has a magic solution, mine is going back to stock today and then back to HTC for repair.
Had the exact same issue a while back so I just took it to Sprint and got a new one.
perhaps its my google account cuz i notice after fresh install and before i sync my market there car home is no where to be found. so im thinking theres probably an issue with my google account and apps. even thiugh it does not have car home as one of ny apps ive installed.
issue temporarily fixed by going to both car apps in applications and force stop/clearing data but then it came back again, defiantly sometime to do with usb port
My phone started having the same problem, it would come up for no reason at all. Just now I plugged it into my car charger and it magically stopped. I was wondering if the usb cable I got from HTC could be bad.
Its a provlem with your micro usb. I had the same problem on multiple
roms. Getting a new usb cable cleared it up for me.

I had the same problem, and it turned out that it was a 3rd party charger that I bought on ebay that caused it. I bought a charger from Sprint, and it cleared up for me.
Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but figured would be better than starting a new one.
My Evo just started doing similar things just two days ago. Pretty sure mine was a moisture issue- put it in my pocket while swim suit was still wet, I've read similar reports on other forums.
My issue is Car Home will launch whenever it wants (seems to be purely random.) It will 'dock' then 'undock' (indicated by the chime it plays) two or three times in a row before it finally just runs in the background. If you are in an application while this happens it will either crash the program, or refresh everything, losing what ever state you were on.
Any got a software fix for this yet? I've tried uninstalling it, freezing it, reinstalling it, deleting the apk with root explorer... nothing. Not only is it god awful annoying it's killing my battery life. From what I am understanding this issue is rooted in hardware problems, but there has to be a way of stopping a program from auto loading.
I even went as far as to delete EVERY file that root explorer found the words 'car' and 'home' in with it's search function. Tried installing apps that supposedly blocked it from auto loading like NoDock, did nothing.
If all else fails I guess i could do a full wipe and reload CM7, but I've read reports that that doesn't even fix it. Is there anyway to confirm it's a USB problem, and not a short in the magnetic sensor? I attempted to take a cat log, think it was throwing a Java error, need to read up on how to post said log.
If there is a more complete thread or resolution page, please link it, I have no issues reading up on it myself if only I can find it.
Thanks for any input!
This problem is caused by the liquid damage... Everytime I have one come in with this issue.. I have signs of liquid damage to the board, especially around the charging port...
I hear ya, but there has to be a way of removing carhome completely. My phone operates fantastic for 80% of the day, so it's not like it's a catastrophic error or anything.
Same thing happening here on my Evo with Cyanogenmod 7.1RC1. Really odd behavior. I just uninstalled car home using Titanium and I'm waiting to see if that fixes it.
I downloaded nodock (trial) and pretty much solved the issue. I still have problems on start up but once I am able to enable the app. I might just end up buying the app because of no other choice.
I fixed this issue by getting a new phone. Its a hardware issue, something something usb port dying glitching, thinks its docking with car dock
I would totally do the same thing if I wasn't living in fear of the new ota

This.
It's a hardware issue, not software. The tech at my local Sprint store said they see this a lot with people that use car chargers, especially during the winter. The end of the cable falls on the floor and gets dirt, salt, and other crap in it then gets picked up and plugged into the phone and screws up the USB port. Sometimes it just needs to be cleaned, but sometimes it actually gets damaged.

I cleaned my charging port with rubbing alcohol and it seems to be fixed.

has anyone found a solution to this issue, im currently experiencing it on my inspire.... from what i have read its a hardware issue, but isn't there anyway to make a patch of something that can block car home from launching?? it randomly starts up on my phone and causes my speaker phone to always be on when receiving calls or making one, until i manually turn it off but still its pretty annoying... help!! lol
water damage or generic charger
I had this problem I was using a cheap stand charger when I switched back to the stock charger it solved the problem after a few days.... but that evo broke and my next evo had it again plus HDMI wasn't working. Took it in and it had all kinds of corrosion from water damage causing the problem. So take it in or take it apart and clean it hope that helps

what ROM you running that you can't uninstall it through the standard settings?
you should be able to uninstall with Titanium. at least as a quick fix, but this may be indicative of another issue?
i had the same problem

I had the same problem before. In settings you can disable car mode from launching but every time you use headphones the volume will be stuck because it thinks its in car mode. I think the problem came from a cheap charger that I was using it may have bent or affected the connections some way that made the phone think it was in a car dock. Even when it wasn't plugged into anything. I just bought a better charger and a few weeks later the problem just stopped. I have no idea. hope that helps

yeah i have no idea i'm completely stumped. i've been using the same MIUI rom without upgrading for over a month now. all of a sudden today it starts and nothing in my system has changed. the thing is i have no car mode app in titanium nor is there an installed app to change settings.

here is the thread i ran on this problem... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12027541#post12027541 turning on bluetooth seemed to work for me for most things. Even though the app doesnt launch it still thinks its in a dock so the problem will continue. My best advice is buy a quality charger. I got a dock charger so it charges upright and that seemed to fix everything. But Im not 100% sure. My other Ideas was that I keep my phone in my pocket at work. Im in construction so I thought sweat may have caused a moisture problem in the phone... gross but just a thought haha
Could also be a bad usb port, causing the phone to think it's docked.
ok i'm still struggling with this. maybe the usb port is going bad i have no idea. that being said is there any possible way to remove car mode all together? its not listed as a separate app in titanium but i imagine there must be a way to remove it.
I had the exact same issue and it turned out to be a bad usb port since it happens to be one of the other issues with certain hw versions.. like b spot on nova screens n excessive light leakage. I would recomend flashing a stock rom n taking it to a sprint repair center for an exchange unless you know a particular that is lenient on rooted phones. Good luck.

just to add to this, try flashing a different rom just for kicks, to see if anything changes.
edit: sorry, I guess this was a couple weeks old
Here's a stab in the wind (unless it only happens when you plug it in). The car mode application also responds to magnetic fields. Are there any magnets near where you usually have this problem? (Wallets and purses often have magnets in them)
My problem is the USB stays on whether its plugged in or not, debugging or not and I only have this problem on Gingerbread leaks not on EC05.
Any suggestions?
Jump off ginger then

Had this problem for only a minute. Either do a factory data reset or try reflashing the ROM. Backup first of course.

Searched high and low for this. And I finally found it!
This is the exact problem I am having except it doesn't seem to be confined to ROM. Also, USB still works properly. The problem is the phone keeps thinking it's connecting / disconnecting to USB all day long and for some reason this kills the battery life. It also makes it impossible to see notifications in the bar without sliding it down (the bar is constantly flashing USB connected).
I had this problem on SRF1.2 (EC05) and ODIN'd to EH17 last night... there's no way the problem could carry over if it was a software issue right? Well, the USB was connecting/disconnecting as soon as EH17 booted.
Any insight into what is causing this? I'm starting to think my only option is to ODIN back to stock and bring it in to a Sprint store...
UPDATE: It seems the problem has 'stabilized' a bit... the USB connection is now ALWAYS considered to be on and no longer flashes connect/disconnect over and over. Maybe I just need to clean out the USB contacts?
One last bump of this thread for ideas... I really don't want to take it in to a Sprint store. Problem is still ongoing and cripples my phone to just a few hours battery life. Is there some way I can clean out the contacts of the usb connection? This might be where the "false connections" are coming from.
Open to any other ideas.
My girlfriends phone did that for about 10 minutes one day last week. I just took my better than stock micro usb cable and gently jiggled the connection a bit. We haven't had an issue with it since. Her stock cord went bad at that same point in time, so she uses a better one now as well. I would imagine you probably already tried this, but I figured i'd post my experience.

Howdy Folks,
I'm looking for some help, because my Galaxy Nexus is kinda frustrating me right now.
For some reason my Galaxy Nexus does not charge anymore, unless I shut my Phone down en while it's rebooting plugging it in.
This part is the same when charging it by the 3 dot connect on the side, or the USB port.
I have not been able to find a fix for this problem, so I would like to uninstall superuser. And Lock my phone again so I can send it back to get it fixed.
But I can't figure out how, Cause my laptop or any other computer i've tried it on. Does not recognize my device..
Could Someone help me restock my phone, without the use of USB.
Galaxy Nexus
Android 4.1.1
JRO03C GSM
Started with the same problem yesterday. Y did notice that if I shut Orr the phone, while in the process, right before shutting off, battery icon jumps to charging.
So I uninstalled some apps I recently downloaded and now it charges.
So. It maybe some app affecting some service. Also use a small brush to clean the connectors in the adapter and phone

Thanks but I'm sure its not a faulty connector. Cause my 3 dot docking station gives the same results. I have had this problem for a month now. Didn't download any apps at the time. I've also did a factory reset. No results. And a reset in recovery mode. But the strange thing about it is. Even thou it wiped all my apps except superuser. It did not remove my music and photos.
