Hi, i just got an XDA IIs and have been reading up as it does seam to crash regually. and i heard that removing the o2 active peice of crap helps. but i cant find anywhere how to do it?
Cheers Paul
The best way to get rid of O2 active is to hard reset, when the screen apears asking "PRIVATE OR CORPORATE" install select corporate then enter 0506 in the password field.
If you do this back up your phone and address book to the SD card, before you hard reset - do not try to re-install all your programs etc from back up following the hard reset, as doing this re-loads part of the rubish you are trying to get rid of - believe me if you do this it really screws up the handset - I tried it - wouldn't charge in the car, kept locking up etc. The sooner you do the hard reset the easy it will be - less applications to re-load - good luck _ Mike
Hi all,
I to am trying this reset process with an O2 XDA, when it hard resets I am not getting the screen asking me for "PRIVATE OR CORPORATE", any ideas as to why?
Can someone also confirm the Hard Reset sequene?
Many thanks
Paul
what i do is, after the hard reset (and choosing personal) and having it do all its stuff, first, remove/disable all O2 stuff from the today screen (start -> settings -> today -> remove all the o2 stuff in both tabs).
then start -> settings -> remove programs, remove all the o2 active VR stuff.
probably a message will pop up, noting some directories it doesn't remove. after removal is done, just go to file manager, and manually delete those directories.
seems to remove it for me =)
Mackster, you only get about five seconds to select the mode you want, if you don't do anything it will install personel mode as default - Why O2 insist on puting this rubish on there badged machines is beyond me - it makes a nice bit of kit into rubish, Ive had no problems since getting shut of it, even O2 support by phone will tell you to take it off as the first line for most queries - Mike
Paul, the thing I did was hard reset, and when it gives me a warning that programs will be installed in 3 seconds, I did a soft reset. After the soft reset, it won't try to install the programs anymore. I think this gives you the CLEANEST install.
When I did the Corporate setup, it still installed the PDF viewer, blah blah... I would like to control what I put in my PDA, even if they are useful programs. Hope this helps.
Sam
Sorry to dig this topic up, but I was looking for a solution and came up with one myself and thought I'd post it incase it comes in handy for anyone else.
Right, to disable the O2 Active UI from running...
Code:
Programs -> File Explorer
- Go to \Windows\Startup (make sure you have \ not \\ at the beginning if entering a path name)
- Delete the "connections" program
Soft Reset
This should stop the little O2 icon from appearing in the taskbar. For completeness, you'll probably want to stop any of the other O2 apps from running as well...
Code:
settings -> today -> items
- untick o2aui
- untick clockinfo
- untick o2BatteryPlugin
- OK
Soft Reset (to be sure)
Personally, I like the battery plugin, because its actually quite practical. Anyway, if you want to completely remove the software, do as follows...
Code:
Programs -> File Explorer
- Go to \Windows\Fonts
- Delete or rename the xpdr_02 (font) file
Settings -> System -> Remove Programs
- Select the O2 active UI from the list and click remove.
The UI should now be removed. It will probably tell you that it was successful, though some directories remain. You can delete them manually if you wish, but they shouldn't matter.
If you need/want to re-install the O2 software, you can do so from the software CD provided with the XDA, or it may be still available from the add/remove programs menu in ActiveSync.
You'll have probably noticed there's quite a lot of programs in the \Windows\Startup folder. I'm not sure what all of them do, but I bet you can get better start up times by removing some of them. Be careful though!
Enjoy
Thankyou to all that helped me out.
Many thanks

remove O2aui
Hi there,
I have seen so many clever hints how to successfully remove the O2aui from the device that I wonder what's wrong with simply goint to settings/system/remove programs and remove Mobile Solutions SRL O2ActiveUI v... ?
Would this remove more functions that I actually need?
Thanks for your comments.
Cheers

You guys are amazing.
That company HCT should put you people on a permanent retainer.
I can testify that 0506 works to stop the O2 interface program being installed.
My XDA is now O2-free, and my lady's XDA is running an Orange Pay-as-you-go card.
As good as we think the XDA is, it would be nowhere near as good without this board and forum. The only problem we have had is actually finding the tricks to use.
A sticky or a permanent post would be most helpful. You folks all know how to do things like Hard Re-sets and have forgotten the time when you didn't. Just those two simple things... a hard re-set and that 0506 trick... have profoundly enhanced my use and experience of my XDA.
BTW in case anyone is thinking of buying one, we got a Stowaway Portable Keyboard with one of our XDAs, and we think it's pretty good. You have to remember to turn off the IRD when you want to use the keyboard, but aside from that, it was a good addition for us.

Hi Everybody,
I was trying a trial version of TodayX and while I was playing around with it, I noticed that the "Messaging" today item is not there anymore. The "No new messages" has disappeared and also when I get a new SMS, the Today item does not appear either.
Thanks.
RE
Can you s it from setting -> today -> items and check on "messaging" or it completely lost?
No it is completely gone
Hi cornelius, thank you for replying. No, it has completely disappeared, even from the today items menu. I am an experienced user and have some development skills and I even tried to look into the registry to try to find what is missing, but no luck so far...
backup..... HardReset.... ( i'm an experienced user too , or u can say...expert , but it's about loosing time searching for an answer ...that's why Hreset exits :twisted: )
Sorry
I'm sorry sandmik, i didn't mean it, it's difficult to know if someone newbie ( Like me actually ) , or experienced, just want to help.
I think xeon right better to hard reset your device. If you wish you can do something like me, as leaner i always want to know, when i have to hard reset because of something, I record my registry ( For system not S/W ) and see what difference whit fresh one....
Good luck....
Hi again
Hi cornelius. I did not mean any insult to you, I am greatful for you trying to help, it is just I wanted to save sometime. I'd rather not hard reset because I want to use the software TodayX and If I hard reset and install it I might have this problem again, I'd rather find a solution which should be something in the registry. And I also contacted the developers but they did not answer. If someone can send me a dumpe of their PDA2k registry or maybe search for the work "Messaging" and just send me a dump of this information, that would be great. Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Don't worry
Hi sandmik, don't worry, no hurt feeling, but i put my highest respect on you, you're experience but don't arrogant, my respect. OK, i'll do my best to help you. do you know some suspicious area? if no that's ok, i'll explore my registry to find out. Give me 1/2 days, i really want to help you, once again my highest respect 4 you. Good luck.
Fixed
Dear Guys,
I did it, I simply borrowed the BlueAngle of a friends of mine and got these registry entries:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Messaging"]
"DLL"="tmailutl.dll"
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000000
"Order"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
"Selectability"=dword:00000002
I guess this solution is much better than hardreset :idea:
And thanks for your efforts cornelius.
Late
Hey.. you've solve it
im late about few minute ???
but great to hear it....
Question
Sorry, but i hink i need to known did TodayX slow down your XDA?
hi,i found this WisBar is the leading task management software(skinable)
for the PocketPC and i ve tired it.its really cool.
so i just wanna share with u guys and hope u like it
Wowsers - Just added it to my MDA3.. Look fab!
Thanks for sharing!
Wisbar is good, but slows down my BA alot. It tends to mess up quite alot too. Like sometimes certain bubbles won't open. Also, the alert icon isn't specific (ie. no way of telling whether you have a missed call/message/low battery/GPRS connection just by looking)
I find that you spend as much time double checking things using wisbar as you would just closing all the apps separately.
wisbar is a great skinning program but not a very good task manager.
i am actually waiting for the version that disables all features except for the skinning ability.
this is actually a frequently requested add-on
I tried this and it killed my ringtone. I could not tell when someone rang me it did not even show up a missed call is this common or just me?

you have to get the latest version. go to the lakeridge site and enter the forum.there you will find the latest build that works.
currently i'm using wisbar advance 2.4.1.8 along with wisbar advance desktop beta .07
It's running pretty stable and it takes less memory usage than spb pocket plus.
here's some screenshot of wad
Wow, seriously guys, i think this wisbar adv. v2 is kinda cool, i mean there is so much more you can do with it than what u normally can with default ppc software, i got a m2000 and it works well. It used to lock up forcing soft resets really often, but now i upgraded to v2.4.1.8 and i cant even remember when last it locked up.
I really think this is a program worth getting...
well done to Chris McKay and Lakeridge Software for this awesome program...well done guys
I just got a Dopod C730 today and already put it through some ROM upgrades, and am currently on the 1.16.707.7_1.43.50.00_108_Ship ROM from the wiki ftp. After playing with it for a while (which is fun and faster than my previous Dash), I tried to open Messaging, but it just refuses to launch. I still have no idea why this happens??? Anyone know how to put things on the right track again? Pls save me!!! Any help is much appreciated!!!

I tried it also, but the situation's still like that. Guess I may have to HR it, another time to lose Anyway, thanks a lot for your input, mate!
Never mind it, guys. I've figured it out; It was just a matter of quotation marks I accidentally left out when tweaking the device, to move the mail stuff onto my Storage Card. Have a good day!!!
Hi all!
I've installed a new skin to my TP2 (that was a big fault) everything was going wrong..
All buttons are completley white, horrible loading animation, etc, etc.
Now I have restored nearly everything. The only problem is that my startmenu is now as the old windows mobile drop-down menu. I want to have my HTC application launcher back. I think that it is a simple register setting...
I've searched here but cannot found a solution.
Can anybody help me with this problem/setting?
Thanks is advance and sorry for my poor English!

Check out the sticky. The registry edit is there.

Thanks for the replay, I've already made that register setting, but i have still the old application (/start) menu... I think that the skin (...) has removed more settings.

Can someone upload a register file fith the malia settings?
Thanks in advance!

Since you messed it up so bad, it may be a better idea to backup your data and do a hard reset.

Good idea, but everything else is working right now, and i was hoping to wait until the wm6.5 version is ut (official) so I can use the installation time for that moment...
Can you help me with a register file from the malia settings? (or do you have other good idea's?
I think that the problem is simple --> I've installed a verry ugly skin. I was trying to remove it but Wimo give me everytime a error (failed to remove....)
So I've uninstalled it with SkTools, but I think that it has not restored the previous settings, but that it hase removed all the register values from the skin file...
Thanks again for all helping people!

there is a registry key that changes the start button and start soft button (top left) from opening the quick programs (manila shell) to the drop down menu (windows mobile default). can be found here:
HKLM\Software\EnlargeMenu
"EnableManilaStartMenu"
Change 0 to 1.
Hope that works. this is how I changed my quick programs to drop down menu (I prefer the drop down menu better).

Thanks for the replay,
I have searched for that register value, but cannot find it.
So I have restored some parts of the register (after a backup) in the HCT/Malia map and the HTC EnlargeMenu (In local machine and Current user). but still not working. it is already a '1' in there.
So my (simple?) conclusion is that there is a deeper problem.
Still missing other register values, or missing files that have to be somewhere to run that program menu...
Anybody else a good idea?
Thanks for al your good idea's and help!
I'm using the device at my work (medical information/patiënt information) so it's nice if I could save the installation and wait until the 6.5 update will come out!

hehe. I've hard reseted my phone at least 10 times since the last week I've had this phone. it's the only way to test out apps to find the right one that works for you. I do installs and uninstalls. eventually I will find an app that [email protected]#$ up my phone, or that works really well. this will be an on going process for at least 3 months until I find what to settle with. It was like that with my Mogul, and it will be like that even more so with the TP2 because it's such an awesome upgrade.
