Xda II ROM upgrade v172181 - About xda-developers.com

Hi
I recently down loaded and install an Xda II ROM upgrade v172181 (26.5MB) from the UK O2 website.
After the installation finished my XDA11 is no longer working. The screen is completely greyed out
but you can make out the word Serial at the top of the screen and v1.06 at the bottom of the screen.
Other wise it looks totally dead. I have tried the soft and hard reboot (by pressing power button and reset button simultaneously) with out effect.
Any ideas greatly appreciated

Put it back in the cradle as re-start the upgrade. Also make sure the cradle is connected directly to a USB port on your PC and not through a hub, and that the power supply to the cradle is connected.

Life but no action
Hi
thanks for the advise. I now have life in my machine where there was none .
I tried the rom update again but I now get an error 101 stating it can't find my XDA and as for the XDA it stay onat the start screen showing the o2 water sceen.
So if you can work your majic again I might get the benift of this mean machine I have only had it for two days
Thanks again

re-installed xda-developers ROM...IT WORKS!!.sort of.

Flashed O2 ROM to unlock, didn't work as still asked for GID code.
Re-installed xda developers ROM, still asked for GID code, just for the hell of it I typed in 4 zeroes and was very supprised to see popup box appear at the top of phone screen saying T-mobile  so phone now works...almost. All the external buttons don't work.
Only way to switch xda on is to put it into its cradle, only then do the buttons work.
If I remove power cable from cradle xda stays on with the green LED flashing.(all buttons still working). If I then remove xda from cradle and start to use programs etc, it shuts down only to be restarted in cradle again.
Thought it may be a battery problem but the battery power bar in settings says it's fully charged.
Does anyone out there have any ideas about this please.
Cheers Guys

Did you carry out a hard reset after burning the new rom? You can sometimes get weird problems if you only do a soft reset. It may also be that you have a button stuck in the down position. Also check setting under settings/personal/buttons.
Cheers, but I did do a hard reset.
I've now re-installed Rom 3 times with same result, although with the last one, xda stayed on a bit longer before it crashed.
Thanks

will MTTY help me??

I have a o2 xda exec that only responds if i do a hard reset then all i get is the 0 or X options and then nothing whatever i choose.
where can i get mtty from and will it help
is the Bootloader screen where it says 'Press 0 to restore... X to exit?'
i have found a version of MTTY but it only has com1 & com2.
i now realise i did not do a soft reset after upgrading the rom....
the version of MTTY i have is 1.11a
my o2 xda exec is less than 24hrs old. i have already broken it.
I cant beleive O2 ships with such an old ROM. I bought it for push email so i have to upgrade the ROM. But now its useless and I am in trouble!
ok well i have mtty1.42 now but still that only shows com1 or com2
Please can someone tell me if the '0 or X' screen is the bootloader?

No, the bootloader screen is when you hold down the backlight button on the front of the device, the power button, and then use your stylus to tap the reset button. You will then see "Serial" up at the top and probably V. 1.00 at the bottom. It will not be a lighted screen, but dark gray. Make sure that ActiveSync is not in use. If you're not sure hold alt-ctrl-delete until task manager appears then click on Processes and look for something like wscecom.exe (spelling is wrong) but this is ActiveSync. Click on this and end this process, this should free up your USB and then you can enable MTTY and plug your device back in, start up MTTY and you should see the USB port to the left below the COM's. This worked for me. I am still stuck at the blue splash screen though...
Take care,
Monty Gibson
hey thanks alot!
it worked i now see usb in mtty. I am trying the upgrade again - fingers crossed!
what a crazy day it is for me... this morning i found a rom with push email and stereo BT. I installed it and it killed my machine - from high to low and its all my fault!
i hope this splash screen error gets fixed for you!!!
for me i think the manufacturers are partly to blame. they should all release roms with full functionality and then none of us would be going through this!
it worked!
for anyone reading this and concerned about upgrading a rom note that mine failed as i did not follow the instructions exactly!

Damaged XDA Orbit - can only access BootLoader?

Hi Guys,
Managed to blag a "broken" XDA Orbit from work.
Reportedly, this unit was dropped in the bath some time ago, but has been sitting on a desk for a few weeks - should be nice n' dry now!
When I connect to a usb charger (for my HTC Tytn), the top right LED on the phone flashes etc, but doesnt turn on. After a while, the light disappears.
Found something strange - the bootloader (which I tried to access via Voice Dial + Power + reset pin hole), actually works, tho without pushing the reset pin hole! I.e holding down just Voice Dial and Power puts it into Bootloader mode.
This makes me think two things:
1. The reset "btn" is damaged - jammed on or something
2. The connection inside is damaged
The Bootloader reports as follows:
IPL 1.25.0001
SPL 1.25.0000
USB
When entering BootLoader mode, the PC plays the "Hard Ware Connected" tones...
Is there any chance flashing using bootloader mode would get this puppy up and running again?
The phone was originally on a company account with O2 - would flashing to WM6 etc unlock the phone?
Be very interested to hear any suggestions!
Do a search on the Artimis forums for the O2 UK ROM and try flashing that to the device, you have nothing to lose!

I would strip the phone down and blast it out with and airline/air duster, then leave it apart for a day or so to dry-out some more.

Serial v1.02 screen

I tried to do a firmware upgrade (HA_VZW_207_117_01167_A12.exe from Verizon) on my BA using ActiveSync 4.5 from a Vista Ultimate workstation. The upgrade process stopped and now I have dim screen with the word "Serial" at the top and "v1.02" at the bottom. The BA does not respond to any buttons, hard resets, battery removal, etc. What did I do, can it be fixed, and how do I do it? Thanks for any insights and help.
more on Serial v1.02
I should have added this:
I have tried holding Power + Record + stylus in Reset hole, but when I do, the screen display does not change, still Serial v1.02.
I get the "bedunk" sound when I put the BA in the cradle but no light on the BA indicating that it is charging and no indication in ActiveSync that the BA is connected.
When I run the upgrade firmware program, I get a Error 101: Connection error.
Problem is Vista?
Just got everything to work on an XP workstation. Maybe it is a Vista problem thing.
Verizon should have posted an instruction how to upgrade under Vista environment...try searching their forum. It has to be somewhere!

The same thing happened to me when I tried to upgrade my phone to WM6. What I did was to restart everything and resume upgrading. Hope this help.
I had same problem, and I solved it applying original rom update for appropriate device.
Using other rom updates it was giving errors or it was not working at all.
My PDA is Blue Angel - QTek 9090 and I used BA_WWE_14000_147_11200_Ship.exe
Now is everything working
Hope it will help you, too

Help!! just got an Xda IIs - seems locked up

Hi all, I have just got a Blue Angel Xda which is in mint condition but when powered up hangs with an unlit screen showing the O2 logo and some faint red writing near the bottom right of the screen which I cant read. It does nothing from this point.
I have tried pressing the key combination to enter bootloader mode and this appears to work with a blank white screen saying 'serial' and a version number - but what to do from there?
Can I reflash the software? does this problem sound easy to fix or is it destined for the bin? I have the docking cradle and some software with it - I would like to unlock it if possible but since I cannot access the PDA I cannot copy the unlock file to it.
Any help would be very appreciated - what software do I need to get it working again if I can?
Thanks in advance.
oh dear I was hoping I would be told it was simple matter by now - anyway in the mean time I have tried to get the phone to connect to active sync but it will not. I have put it in boot loader mode and it says serial on the screen which changes to USB when put in the cradle - still will not connect to active sync. I can in fact read the red writing on the screen which I said I couldn't above - it seems to be various version numbers of something.
I am using XP with the latest version of active sync for XP downloaded from MS yesterday.
All I want to do is reflash this XDA - I was told it was a simple thing but so far have had no luck even connecting to it.
Hi.
Try to do a hard reset first. You can learn how by reading the following:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueAngel_WM5_For_Beginners
No luck
Thanks for that but I never see the coloured stripes - maybe its not WM5? I can clearly enter boot mode according to that guide but otherwise just have a stuck unlit O2 loading screen. The soft reset only seems to cause a momentary blanking of the screen and then back to the same O2 logo. I have tried pressing the camera and record buttons a thousand times whilst pressing soft reset but nothing different ever happens.
isn't there a way to just reflash the rom?
Yes...of course you can reflash.
Download the rom from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382909
Enter bootloader mode, connect your Blue Angel to the cradle and run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe.
When the flashing is complete...hard reset your device.
Wow - thanks so much you are a genius - I followed the instructions with relative ease and my Xda lives again - I need to play on a bit with it now to learn how to use it but thanks a million.
Everything seems to be OK - WiFi seems a bit flakey with connecting but once connected behaves well - biggest annoyance by far is the fact that there is no sound at all, no matter what the format and volume the xda is mute!
Heh..you're welcome.
The 'no sound' issue could be a hardware problem. If you are sure that the software is ok and you should hear sound then the best scenario would be a replacement speaker.
I have just replaced my speaker with a spare from a qtek s200 and it's great.
BA is a great device
I am not sure the software is OK - the PDA is in mint condition it seems highly unlikely that the sound is faulty - its totally silent - wma makes no sound at all.
I wonder if there is a factory rom I could try just to be sure if its the software or hardware - I have followed links to various 'ship' roms and they seem to be dead now.
I plugged headphones in and they too are dead so it it probably isn't the speaker?
Also the camera button starts media player not the camera and I dont appear to have any access to camera functions - I think this could be a software thing perhaps a less ambitious version of WM.
As a beginner in this forum its really hard to find any actual files - there is much talk about this rom and that but where are they kept?
surely there is a stock rom that can try to be sure the hardware is ok?
Hmm..
Try this wm2003 rom(run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe):
http://rapidshare.com/files/111121136/BA_O2UK_14000_237_11200_ShipXdaIIs.rar
Are you sure that there's a camera on your BA? Because some BA come without a camera.
Thing is when I try the stock rom I end up exactly where I started with it frozen on the boot screen - it just wont seem to allow me to do a hard reset - I reflashed the 6.11 and works fine but again no sound and the camera says it cant initialise the hardware (definately has one)
I even flashed a T Mobile stock rom and it froze exaclt y the same as the O2 rom on the boot screen and wont respond to the hard reset buttons.
When i flash the WM6.11 the hard reset works just as it should so I conclude from this that the buttons are OK
I am at a loss as to what is going on - right now I am back to 6.11 but no sound and no camera again but I cant see me living with it like this
