Hi,
I'm looking into purchasing an XDA2, and am doing some research on upgrading the ROM.
My questions:
1. Can I flash a Qtec or Imate ROM on a XDA2?
2. Does it matter whether I get the ROM from O2, T-mobile, etc? It will be used in Canada on Fido's network.
3. Some tutorials I read were really complicated, can you not just double click the file and flash the XDA2 through Active Sync?
4. How do you upgrade the Radio Stack?
5. If the phone is unlocked, will it remain unlocked after the ROM upgrade?
tnx

THANKS :?:
Greetings!
The ROM upgrade will make you lose all the information in your phone. Just sync your phone before executing the upgrade.
I did the SIM and CID unlocks before upgrading, just to be sure.
BTW after upgrading you\'ll notice the phone response will be snappier than before.
OK. I'm ready to take the plunge since I'm not expecting T-Mobile to release an official upgrade any time soon (if ever). Before I upgrade my Vario II from WM5 to WM6, can someone answer the following questions (yes, I have read the wiki about flashing and upgrading).
1. What version is "best" for T-Mobile Vario II?
2. Can I go back to WM5 if I need to return my phone under warranty?
My desktop PC runs Vista if that makes any difference re. the choice of WM6 to use (I think some programs require ActiveSync?).
Re. 2, I see that there is a copy of the ROM on this site - does that mean I just download and install over WM6 if I need to?
Cheers.

1. Personal taste - try them out! Black Pro 2.5 has a separate T-mobile edition so I would try this first
2. Yes
Hi all,
i am thinking about upgrading to one of the WM6 Roms from this forum.
There are some doubts I am thinking about:
Do i have to flash the Bootloader to HardSPLv7 when i only plan to flash the OS?
The background is that i am running on Radio 1.32.00.00 after flashing with the official new ROM 2.04.162.1 from Vodafone.de and dont want to change anything despite the OS, because this Radio works fine for me!
And for varanty purposes i dont want to change anythin other then the OS.
As i figured out from the upgrade guides, the new Bootloader is only needed when also upgrading the Radio. Am i wrong?
I think the WM6 Roms also work fine eith other Radios and Bootloaders, isn't it?
Also i want to know if Vodafone Live! is (incl. Video Streaming) is working fine with the WM6 Roms?
Thanks for your help,
Hype2k

Yes you need to flash the bootloader to flash the OS. Your radio won't change.
Thanks
Ok thank you for that information.
Does anyone know if Vodafone Live! and MobileTV is working with WM6 Roms?
AnyOne tried yet on the Vodafone Network (or even Vodafone.de network)?
Thanks in advance,
Hype2k
You can flash only OS, but you would be foolish to NOT flash HardSPL 7.
I didn't think any of the vodafone live stuff worked on these things due to the browser and the coding of the site. Mind I've only tried it on vodafone uk. whenever I try and browse I just get a blank screen, buy I have an htc tytn noy a VF branded one.
Video calling works fine by the way if that's any help.
Hi, I am not that familiar with windows mobile pocket pcs, i am about to buy a cingular 8525 / at&t 8525, one of the two and i don't know if it will be locked or unlocked ( i will go by the best deal )... if its locked, can I upgrade it to Windows Mobile 6 and in the process of upgrading it and having a new rom, will it automatically get unlocked?
I am not sure but i believe that there is a rom, a radio and a bootloader, my question is that out of these three, which needs to be modified in order to unlock the phone? if its the rom... then i'm pretty sure upgrading it to mobile 6 will automatically unlock it...
if you can upgrade it mobile 6, then how? which rom do i need? do i need to change my bootloader to some universal edition, if so, is there any danger in doing that? how will the software distinguish between the hermes and the 8525? ( hermes has a 3g vga camera, 8525 does not )...
can someone please clarify?
Please visit WiKi page or read.....

The WiKi refers you to how to:
SIM Unlock it
CID Unlock it
upgrade your Bootloader, IPL/SPL, Radio, and ROM

Hi to all,
I have recently gotten an O2 Exec (Universal) and would like to know about the radio upgrade or a pointer to info on it-
1. Is the radio to do with the telephone/ 3G aspect?
2. Will an upgrade make connections faster?
3. Is a radio upgrade necessary before upgrading ROM or is it included in ROM upgrade?
I think Tomal's latest is what I'll go for.
Many thanks
