Install WM2003 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi:
I am not a developer, but have a few questions regarding installing the lastest ATT WM2003. I have a Siemnes SX56. I used the XDA-Developer's edition to unlock the device - so thats what is installed now. I would like to install the WM2003 instead.
Here is what I have now:
ROM: 3.17.03 ENG
ROM Date: 05/15/03
Radio Version: A.33.02
Protocol Version: 1.3.3
Is there is any special procedure to do this, or I can just flash the WM2003 that I have downloaded from ATT's website? You can email me directly at [email protected]
Thanks for any help in advance.
Dave

please read thr the forum, all answers are there!

The only thing you've got to know is don't use the .exe method, use the .nb1 method with the SD card method. All the info is available in thousands of posts.

If you're installing an official ROM including a radio upgrade you need to use the .EXE method or the radio upgrade won't go in. The SD method doesn't update the radio.
I'd be more willing to do the .EXE method for an unadulterated ROM from AT&T than a cooked ROM, but that's just my opinion

Installing ATT WM2003
Thanks to everyone's responses, and special thanks to Nerrdo for taking the time to write up the details. I have successfully installed WM2003 using the .NBF file method.
With the new OSImage Tool you really do not need to use the SD method anymore. You can do it directly through ActiveSync as long as you have the .NBF file somewhere on your hard drive.
Thanks to everyone again! I am enjoying my WM2003!

Is the SX56 WM03 upgrade ROM also suitable for O2 XDA users?

I just downloaded SX56 WM03 ROM, now my main concern is on whether this upgrade ROM is suitable for O2 XDA users? I just don't want to take the risk on messing up my XDA, coz as we all know experimenting with ROM upgrades has taken a toll on many XDA users!
Please, I need an expert advice regarding this issue...
Yes it is suitable for O2, I have an 'O2' XDA and have it installed. But since the ATT ROM includes a radio update, you have to be very carefully to not to install the radio update and only the rom update.
It is not the ROM update which has taken toll, because you can recover from a ROM update failure very easilly. It is the radio update which can be very dangerously!
yes ... as long as you don't upgrade the radio stack
use SD method instead the exe file provided by the siemens web site
Thank you all so much for the help!!!
I'll do try it!!!
I'm running the latest Tmobile Radio Stack... on Tmobile WM2k3, if I update the ROM with the ATT ROM and my radio stack with the ATT radio stack, will my XDA1 still work? Thanks.
if you have a functioning RSU ... don't touch it!! ... extract the nbf file from ATT and use the SD card method

AT&T SX56 w/XDA-dev Special Edition ROM v1.2 HOW UPGRADE

I have an AT&T Siemens SX56. I used the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.2 to get my SIM Lock disabled. I have T-Mobile service and my T-Mobile SIM now works, hoooray!
However!, The version of Pocket PC on this ROM is not to my liking.
I went to siemens site and they offer the latest Windows Mobile 2003 for my device, however I can't use it becuase my ROM versions don't match.
IS there any way I can upgrade the latest Windows mobile 2003? What would be the recommended method?
My current SX56 info:
Rom Version: 3.17.03 ENG
Radio Version: A.33.02
Protocol Version: 1.3.3
Model No. says: PW10a1 (even though it says on the back PW10b1)
MS Pocket PC 3.0.12039 (build 11178)
Any help or advice would be appreciated. I scared to do anything for fear that using a ROM kitchen might toast my ROM
ANY advice on this would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Brock
the rear sticker is THE right one .. your device is B and it works on 900/1900 MHz.
As long you don't touch the RSU part and you are using the SD method for ROM flashing, there is almost nothing can go wrong for using the kitchen for ROM cooking. I can't remember how many times I flashed my ROM
You can get more details by reading through this forum carefully.
Good luck
Hmm... So what version of ROM on this ROM kitchen website would be most recommended: http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ ?
Also is there a reason why you are only allowed 3620kb of ROM space? I thought my device had 32MB?
All I would have to do is create the ROM on that site save it as a .exe and then it would do everything else?
Thank you for the quick reply!
I forgot to mention that I have the Wallaby Boot loader version 5.22, if that makes any difference.
I also was wondering if the newer radio versions make any difference on reception/clarity/availablity of a signal????
Another thing I was wondering about is... How come on this ROM kitchen website http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ I have to e-mail information and await instuctions to proceed? Does he have to give me a special number that is generated to make the ROM I downloaded work w/ my IMEI or device?? Or is that totally not right???
Thanks again,
Brock[/i]

I copied the new M2000 rom 1.31.124 WWE

I know you were all crying out for it, so i took 5 mins and uploaded it.
Let me know if ive done it right!!
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Extended_Roms/Orange_UK_SPVM2000_Ext_ROM_131124.zip
Operator version 5.31.1.124
ROM Version 1.31.00 WWE
ROM Date 12/13/04
Radio Version 1.06.02
Protocol 1337.38
ExtROM Version 1.31.124 WWE
I have tried to perform Rom update from your link.... I get the File cannot be skipped. The file :"\Windows\IA_P_DspCID.dll" must be copied for the application to work correctly. Try copying again ?....
I have tried to copy but nothing happens..

Whats the BT Stack Version.Build in this ROM??
Hi Blackhorse,
Thanks for doing that.
Does your download include all the roms? - operatior, rom, external, radio, bluetooth etc?
If not, any chance of uploading the others?
Sorry if this is a dumb question - i've not down any rom upgrades yet so I dont know what's in there - i'm just looking at the version numbers on mine and the ones posted here!
Thanks

How can I reload the OS on Orange SPV M2000
I have erased all data with a ROM or Firmware upgrade and now need to reload it. Plrase advise
It looks like this is just the extended ROM, eg, the apps and customizations from Orange which are only installed when you hard reset your phone. This update only really applies to people who are Orange/M2000 users or people that can "cook" their own extended ROM.
If you need insturctions on how to install this, then search the forums for "Extended ROM Unlocking" or visit the recently updated ROM Kitchen via the links in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/.
Hope this helps,
Dom

how 2 unlock wm2003 upgraded sx56

hi,
first i'm really glad to find this forum. i am a palm refugee and am desperate to switch platforms. someone is offering me an sx56 that has already been upgraded to wm2003. i think it still has a subsidy lock. what will be the easiest way to unlock? thanks for a wonderful forum!
You will need to downgrade, it would be best to download the special edition rom, this will unlock your phone, you can then restore your current rom if you backup your rom to sd card before flashing. You can also make your own rom and use the unused space in rom for other programs, here is a link to the rom kitchen.
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
I am not sure if xda manipulator works under wm2003 but this requires a serial to xda cable to work also.
ok, i don't think i will need anything on it from the previous owner. so if i just downgrade the rom with the one you specified, then upgraded with the wm2003 rom (i found a copy earlier today), that would do the trick?
thanks
worked like a charm. thank you!!!

1.40 iMate ROM and XDA2s

Hi all, my new BA arrived finally! I have decided to keep it afterall. I am a total n00b at this stuff, and really struggle to understand the Wiki site. However, I did manage to download XDA tools and backup my ROM.
I then downloaded the PDA2k_WWE_14000_176_11200 ROM from the FTP site. It said it was going to update my Radio and Ext. ROM too. Anyhow, it comes up with the country code error.
I added that line of script into the file but it still has the error. Any ideas? I thought the iMate 1.40 ROM was supposed to work on the XDA2s.
I really want a more stable device. Are there any other ways to do this? I tried using XDA Tools to upload the NK part of the iMate ROM separately, but it said it needed to be an exact size to work.
What is the best ROM? We couldn't even figure out how to cook and Ext. ROM so if anyone could give me a hand it would be much appreciated. The Wiki assumes you know what you're doing but I really have no idea.
Cheers guys - Mike x
You don't need to use XDA Tools it you're using a standard manufacturers ROM, just the No ID program for the device ID shortcut.
I had to add the country code ID in too, but after that it was golden. Not sure what's up with you...
Chris
If you are on O2 UK and want the imate ROM that also has O2 settings for GPRS, MMS etc, have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24000&highlight=
It's a set of instructions that I made using the wiki, as well as info other members had given me, particularly mdaIIIuser to upgrade a UK O2 XDA IIs to the imate 1.40 without having to enter GPRS settings etc manually afterwards, and still keeping the country code to O2 (which means you can use an official O2 upgrade later , without any problems, if they ever get their arses in gear!)
If you need any more help, let me know and I'll do what I can. If you have an ftp site you want me to upload my upgrade files to, PM me with the details and I'll send it you. I'd put in on the ftp here, but i don't think it's worth taking up so much space with a customised ROM.
HTH,
Fin
OK guys, I managed to upgrade my device to the latest iMate ROM, and the 1.13 radio ROM
Problem now is cooking my Ext. ROM. I know I can't update the Ext. ROM that came with the iMate ROM. I want to put my 02 settings in, but I really don't know how. It won't let me put my old 02 image back on the phone, it says the USB is not connected properly
Does anyone have the .nb1 of the 02 Ext. ROM?
Sack that. I downloaded the newest 02 Rom I could find and extracted just the ext. Rom file from the .exe
I am learning
which o2 rom did you use? if it was the uk rom you will have problems as it is 1.31 and your rom is 1.40. you need to unlock the extended rom and copy the base rom 1.40*147 then add your o2 cabs and anything else

Hey thanks Findus, your guide was great.
Yea, I put the 02 1.3 extended ROM on. I didn't know what else to do.
Do you mean the base extended ROM of the iMate 1.40 ROM I put on? I tried that, and there is no Config.txt in the iMate extended ROM.
Sorry, I don't understand this too well

I did not do anything with upgradetools.rar but the device seems to be working fine. I haven't made a call yet as I'm cut off. Does this mean I don't have to do it?

Glad to have helped, although I can't take credit, I got all the info from thw wiki and other posts!
Have just been trying to upload my Extended ROM, it is a modified version of Cooked ERK 1.4x Base that can be found in the wiki under ERK 1.40 . This version of the EXT ROM does have a config.txt, you were probably looking at 1.40.176? All I did was add the 6/7 O2 CABS to the config.txt of the base rom, then changed the caller id cab to 1.20 from the link below:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/CAB_Files/Caller ID/IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
You will probably have some problems with the Ext ROM you have on at the moment, because you haven't got any of the patches for 1.40 which might mean GPRS etc might be unstable.
I will try and upload my Ext ROM again later if you want, all you will need to do is unlock your ext rom, delete the files, and copy over the new files. DO a hard reset and you're away!
Good luck!
Fin
OK, I don't understand.
I just delete all the files (aside from the 02 setup ones) of my current ROM and put these ones in? I don't need to upgrade the Ext. ROM bith the BAUpdate thing?
No, you won't use the BA Upgrade itility- that is for reflashing, which if you had a ms_.nbf file(extended ROM installation file) you would need. There is no tool to edit ms_.nbf files on Blue Angel, instead you have to unlock the Ext ROM manually, copy/delete files, update the config.txt then do a hard reset. Takes some getting used to- I was used to using er2003edit with my Himalaya to make a custom ms_.nbf file, but hey, this method works too!
Good luck,
Fin
Hey man, I already did it! Well good! It's based on the Qtek ROM you reccommended with the o2 stuff added in and the caller ID updated.
now running:
ROM version: iMate 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/10.05
Radio version: 1.13,00
Protocal version: 1337.42
ExtROM: 1.40.147 based on the Qtek cooked for use on 02 UK
My phone hasn't required a single hard reset all day and is still recieving calls (with sound) and messages
Thanks everyone!

Hi
I am about to get an XDAIIs to replace my falling apart PDA2K.
I want to use it on Vodafone.
Is there a real 'idiots' guide to putting the latest and greatest ROM onto the XDAIIs.
(I really do mean idiots guide by the way).
Cheers.
Robin
