Dear friends please help.
I signed up for trial account (pro) at 4smartphone.net to get benefit of pushemail. Everythings was fine during the process and I downloaded setupfile at my jasjar (through sms) but afer running the file it always gives me following sms error
"system notification" - change of device settings is unsuccessful/
I am sure many of us are using this facility very nicely and I must be making some mistake.
Can any one help me or define the whole (step by step) process to setup pushemail from 4smartphone.net like.,
setting email accounts to server settings.
It would be once for all help for pushmail issues.
Regards

You have to configure exchange in activesync in the pda or on the pc .
in your profile on the 4smartphone webpage, go to "Mobile Setup:Review and Upload your mobile setup"

Done it. It works!
I've set up mail forwarding from my belfast-biker.com domain to the 4smartphone one, it sync beautifully, BUT...!
It syncs lovely between OWA (I think that's it, the web-based Outlook thing) and the Exec, but there seems no link with my normal Outlook, and I'm sure there should be.
Also, when I receive emails, they go to my device, and my OWN, but not to my normal Outlook anymore, I'm sure it's coz I've failed to establish a link I should have done.... any help?
I think you want to configure your outlook on the destop :
I give you a copy of the mail I receive from technical support :
Thank you for using 4Smartphone.
Here is a step by step we found to be good:
http://www.petri.co.il/configure_outlook_2003_to_use_rpc_over_http.htm
Information specific to 4SmartPhone:
Profile Name = Your login ([email protected])
You need to check [x] Use Cached Exchange Mode
Microsoft Exchange Server = SNSHBEA107.4smartphone.snx (Instead of zeus)
User Name = your mail again(Instead of daniel)
RPCProxyServer = secure.4smartphone.net (instead of zeus.dpetri.local)
You need to check [x] Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL
RPCProxyPrincipalName = msstd:secure.4smartphone.net
Your user login will be : the mail for your account
And your password is the one you provided at account creation
Please do not hesitate to contact us again if necessary.
Best regards,
Also, you must have outlook 2003 on your desktop - I initially made the mistake of thinking outlook XP was OK - it is not - 4smartphone offer outlook 2003 for free on their site
(PS sorry if this is a "granny to suck eggs" type post, but I made the mistake and know of at least one other who did the same thing.
I'm sure this has been answered before but I cannot find it.
I got just got hooked up with Cingy moving from T-Mobile. I have checked all internet settings carefully according to the instructions received from Cingy.
Everything works except I have to click send/receive to get email. It does not automatically download as it did when I was using T-Mobile.
I am not using Cingy's Xpress Mail. I'm using my mail2web.com account.
Any help would be much appreciated.
*HINT*
Maybe something like activesynch
I just went through this. However, I am using Exchange Server. You need to call Cingular, get yourself escalated to a higher level 'data' tech, and talk to them about provisioning your account for diect push.
*SIGH*
Umm no this has nothing to do with Cingular..
Launch ActiveSynch and click Menu/Schedule
Make sure its set to 'As items arrive'
You may want to check off 'Use above settings when roaming'
MrDsl is correct. I use the above setting for my work account eamail and schdeule the hours for business hrs. Btw you will want to have PDA connect plan for this because you phone will convieniently not turn gprs off at the end of your scheduled sync time.
Gentlemen:
Thanks for the info. I have the activesync settings right. I have the PDA plan for the 8525. I'll call Cingular. So far I'm impressed with the data speed, but the voice quality and number of dropped calls far suppass what I had with T-Mobile.
Maybe i'm retarded, but I cannot for the life of me find the Menu>Schedule as MrDSL described. I've checked on the phone, on the pc... I'm guessing that I am just overlooking it constantly, but where is it?!

Open ActiveSync. On the left is Sync, on the right is Menu. Schedule.
And as everyone here has stated, this has absolutely nothing to do with Cingualr, period. If you DO decide to call them, you (and they) have more patience than I.
Also, one needs never use their PC to configure AS for push mail. My PC is used only to flash new ROM's and copy a cab.
ah, thats why i wasn't seeing it before, it's greyed out. now just to figure out why it's greyed out and everything will be kosher.
sorry for the retard question, thanks for the answer.

Push Isn't Pushing
I've read this thread completely and I still cannot get the push email to push.
Facts:
1) I am using Dutty's WM6 Premium v. 2 on an 8525 on Cingular USA with the $44.95 PDA plan.
2) For internet settings, I have tried both the MediaNet Settings with all the proxy settings they suggest, and the more simple settings (My ISP) where one just uses wap.cingular and the User name of [email protected] and the CINGULAR1 password, but not proxy stuff.
3) On the Active Sync/Schedule settings, I have chosen "as items arrive" for both settings.
4) My Exchange Server is mail2web.com. Previous to buying a Cingular SIM card, I used the BA, a Wizard, and my 8525 to receive push email using a T-Mobile Sim (so I have a little experience).
5) I can get a 3G internet connection. It shows two 3Gs on the top of the today screen and then Two H's (for HSPDa) when downloading data. When the icon is tapped it shows how long the connection has been live.
6) I can get my email off the exchange server by clicking send/recieve, but I WANT PUSH.
7) I can put my T-Mobile Card in the 8525 and change the WAP settings to wap.voicestream.com and get email pushed instantly (The internet Icon at the top of the today screen shows two Es for edge network).
8) I can put my Cingular SIM in my Blue Angel and get push email (via GPRS).
9) This all makes not sense, I've got a live connection, I can download the email but it won't automatically show up.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tired isp.cingular and [email protected] (no proxies). These are for the PDA access plan (not MediaNet((=wap)) which runs through proxies)

1.) Delete your exchange server on the 8525.
2.) Start fresh as far as connection settings go so either uninstall all connections or start the os fresh(best option).
3.) Run attached .cab. It will be automatically set with the isp.cingular no proxys as default.
4.) Launch ActiveSynch and setup your exchange server again.
Any luck?
MrDSL
Thanks for the advice. I tried that. I finally reflashed the ROM and it all works perfectly.
Thanks Again
I have a Dopod 383 Pro running Black Magik (apparently BBC does not work with Black Satin) with the BBC software v4.0.0.67 downloaded from the Dopod Australia website.
I have installed Blackberry Connect Desktop on my notebook and connected it to the Exchange server. I have added myself as a user on BES and set an activation password. The status of my account shows up as "Initializing". I have installed the Blackberry Connect cab file on my Dopod however the status of the service shows up as "Not Connected". ActiveSync has been installed and is synchronizing fine with Exchange.
I have a Blackberry Data Plan activated on my SIM card.
Can someone please help me get connected to BES?
Thanks!
On the desktop software:
1) can you see your BES account settings??
2) have you hit the 'configure handset' button? and let it do its thing (can take a while)
In the General Tab, PIN shows up as "Unknown Type". Security is set to "Generate Keys Automatically". In Advance, email shows my Exchange email address. That is all the information I have showing in the desktop software.
I click on Configure Wireless Handset and I get an error message that says it cannot connect to the device.
1) did you download the desktop software from the same site as the cab file? There are a number of versions of the desktop software and they are not all compatable.
2) have you completed the setup on the handheld before you active sync to your PC? ie do you have the Blue BB indicator on the bottom right corner of the today screen? If it is there what does it indicate BB, Bx, B! If its not there then you need to set it up. On your handheld go ... Start>Settings>System>Blackberry select services you want (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes) then 'next'. Select the 'connection' (hopefully this is already set to blackberry) then 'next' and finally the device will 'prepare for first use' then ask to reset. following the reset the BB indicator should be on the today screen, then try to connect to your PC, Activesync, BB desktop connect and 'configure device'
1) The desktop software was downloaded from the same Dopod Australia site as the CAB file.
2) Setup was completed on the handheld and it indicated B! on the bottom right. Everything has been setup as you mentioned however following the reset the desktop connect is still unable to access the device when you click on "Configure device". ActiveSync works fine.
I'm fast running out of ideas....
1) are you using BBConnect 4.0.0.90 on Black Majik? I am not sure this version works on Majik. However I do have it working on Black X Beta 2.
2) B! means either blocked or suspended (no connection). click on the B! and check the Status Tab what is the text after the word Service: (If its Suspended by user then click the resume button). Then select the Identity tab, is the PIN shown? If not then uninstall & reinstall BB Connect on the device.
3) On the blackberry Connect Desktop app, can you check the version? Is it 4.0.0.17 ?. If not then get it from here... http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/activesync_bbconnect_desktop_setup_4.0.0.17.zip
4) Is your active sync V4.5?
1) I am running BBConnect v4.0.0.67 on Black Majik as I heard it does not work with Black Satin.
2) Service: Not connected and the Resume button is greyed out. The PIN is showing in the Identity Tab.
3) I am runing BB Connect Desktop v4.0.0.17
4) I am running ActiveSync v4.5
got me buggered! (B!)
Last thing I can think of is that the Black Majik version you have is not 'hex-edited' for BB.
you might want to try Blackberry connect 4.0.0.90 (google it for the location)
Is there a way to check if the version of Black Majik I am running has been edited for BB?
I will try BBConnect v4.0.0.90 now.
I'm not sure how to tell whats hex edited and whats not (no doubt there is something on this site that explains it).
Black X beta 2 is really stable and BBC 4.0.0.90 definetly works with this. If you can't get it to run on Majik, consider heading to the X ROM.
Okay, I have installed Black X Beta 2 with BBC 4.0.0.90 and now it works fine.
I have used BBC to sync my contacts, calender, task and notes and ActiveSync is not being used to sync any of those. Once BBC syncs all my info, my appointments tab disappeared from the Today screen and going into the Today screen settings, the appointment option cannot be found.
Another thing I noticed is that my contacts is displaying Last Name, First Name. How do I change this to First Name, Last Name?
Thank you very much for all your help.
Long time user of windows mobile devices and long time reader of this great forum ( well nearly 2 years anyway )
I've not contributed much as I dont posses the knowledge that some of you guys have.
For those new people that come on here the only advice I would ever give is search and read, the answers are nearly always there.
Anyway on to my point.
I have just set up an exchange server ( windows small business server 2003 ) and have things syncing across the airwaves nicely.
Laptop, desktop and mobile device all saying the same thing with no duplicates poping up. ( Always seemed to be a problem when syncing between two computers, for me anyway )
Also able to use Outlook Web Access.
Set this up for myself for a couple of reasons, firstly to make sure all computers where synced properly and secondly because it was worth a challange to learn how to do it.
If there are any people out there that would like the facility that exchange server gives PM me, as i will give it a go setting it up.
You will get exchange server syncing ( calender, contacts, tasks and emails ) with desktop/laptop outlook, outlook web access and an email address that you will can use to forward existing mail to. ( sorry only way to get emails to you )
Going to open this up for a couple or more people mainly to get it working properly. ( so far no problems for myself )
If I do open it up for more a donation would be nice to help pay for the outlay of equipment and for the increase in my electric bill to keep it going.
So if anyone is interested feel free to PM me.
What do you have it running on? Looking at doing the same myself.
Just a bog standard computer, nothing special
An old MSI K8 Neo motherboard with an Athlon 64 3000 2 Gig ram
Dual 250 gig discs in raid mirror for data
and a 120gig for operating system
Windows 2003 small buisness server with R2 technologies
it was also an excuse to upgrade by desktop as well.
well chuffed with how seamlessly it works with the syncing.
do you have microsoft direct push enabled on that exchange server? I would like to do that myself, don't know if it's possible
Yes got it set up.
They call it direct push but i think it goes more along the lines of your phone keeping a link open to the exchange server then as soon as an email is recieved it gets pushed across.
From what ive seen so far i'm sure the battery life is longer now than having the phone looking at a set time period for new mail.
Easy to set up as well, especially the phone side.
thanks, is the direct push functionality included in exchange server. Is it on the install cd's? I'd like to install it for my own domain, don't want to spend lots of money on blackberry server or services.
2.edge is enabled all the time on your phone, just as with blackberry? Does your phone send data at an interval, or is it the server that sends?
You need to make sure you have SP1 or R2 Technologies version for direct push with the server software
you have to set up a user profile that has permission to you the mobile services.
Also if your on a dynamic ip address its handy to have an external service set up to keep track of any changes there. And to get the full use of the server a domain name.
on the phone side you go to activesyn, and in the menu is configure server option. configure the server and thats it done.
The phone does seem to have a data connection all the time.
While i'm at work today i will write out the steps i had to do to get it working fully.
at work now so here we go :-
1) Get a domain name www.
2) If on broadband and on a dynamic IP use the services of someone like zoneedit for redirection.
(for remote access) vpn.yourdomainname to your broadband ip address
(for mail ) mail.yourdomainname to your broadband ip address
(for web ) www.yourdomainname to either your ip address if hosting it on your server or to the ip address of your web host.
(for ftp access ) ftp.yourdomainname to either your ip address if hosting it on your server or to the ip address of your web host.
follow the other instructions on zoneedit to forward the dns server addresses to your domain name admistrator.
3) Get Windows SBS or Server 2003 SP1 With R2 Technologies
4) Load onto a PC
5) Make sure all service patches and updates are loaded.
6) Download a program for updating any changes of dynamic IP address such as DirectUpdate and set up a couple of updates to the vpn mail and ftp.yourdomainname. ( easy enough follow the instructions )
7) Go through the todo list and set up wizards on the server.
a) make sure when setting up email and internet that in the creation of a certificate you put in vpn.yourdomainname
b) also make sure when setting up user access they have privilages for mobile access
8) go into internet explorer, content menu and find the certificate you have created and export it.
9) connect your phone via activesync to a computer connected to the server network and copy over the certificate.
10) run the certifcate on the phone to install it.
11) go to activesync on the phone ( can disconnect for this bit ) and set up exchange server using the vpn.yourdomainname
12) after that it should sync
I may have missed a couple of steps in that or have done something wrong but it is all the steps i can remember and it worked for me.
Hi all,
I'm using WM6 on my backup device, the XDA Orbit and have a few annoying niggles. Can anyone advise on the below?
1) I have 2 hotmail accounts - one personal, one business. I would like to have visibility of both in my messages window. To my knowledge, I can only use one at a time and have to switch accounts via Windows Live each time I want to view emails. Is there a way you can have both?
2) I can't seem to syncronise the new folders on the POP3 account I have. Is there a way? It's an O2 account. When I create a new folder on the XDA, it doesn't show when I log in via webpage & vice versa.
3) I'd like to be able to edit the caller display when someone calls. When a contact information is filled out in detail (i.e company, job title etc.), some of the information appears on the incoming caller display bubble. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo. Possible? Fussy I know
4) In WM5, you used to be able to turn WIFI on AND off via the GPRS icon (next to the phone signal icon/speaker/clock). In WM6, it seems you can only turn it on. I know it's lazy as the Comms Manager in the 'System Tray' is only a few taps away but is there anyway to resurrect the WM5 functionality or provide a link to a 3rd party app/plugin?
5) And finally...I'd also like a bluetooth plugin on the system tray for quick access - any links?
Thanks in advance,
GW
Q1 - 2 live mail accounts can be done by setting up 2nd account as POP3 but apparently you need a yearly MSN subscription to be able to use this. Will just make do with the one account!
Q2 - Been advised to set the account type to IMAP4 to be able to sync new folders although this doesn't seem to work with an O2 email account. Can live without it though.
Q3,Q4,Q5 - Appreciate these will require registry changes - does anyone know what strings/values to edit?
Q1: I have my hotmail via a outlook plugin called httpmail. I guess it would work also with two hotmail accounts.
Here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=225779
Thanks, will check it out.
re: Q2, I don't think the sync can be done on POP3 accounts. Under Messaging > Account i.e. O2 > Tools > Manage Folders, when you click & hold on the new folder that's been created the only options are 'New Folder', 'Delete' or 'Rename'. There is 'Folder Options' but it's greyed out. There are no tick boxes next to the folder like there is for syncing a folder in the Windows Live account.
I've given up on Q4 but I'd really like to fix Q3 if possible, surely just a small registry change required there...just a case of finding what to edit! Anyone help with this?
230 views - come on, who can rise to the challenge of finding a fix for me
Just to summarise question:
is there a way (registry, 3rd party app. etc.) you can edit the details on the incoming caller display bubble. For example, when the 'company' field data is entered on a phone contact, it shows under the name & number when someone calls. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo, no other info.
Is this possible?
