I've tried a few ROMs and I've finally settled on CM7. I like to use a DPI of 200 or lower and when I do this on a Sense ROM, Sense can't scale properly and it looks weird. I also like to have only one or two home screens with all my icons on and twitter and facebook widgets, but on Sense I can only put a few icons on and its full.
So my question to everyone is:
What do you personally find good about HTC Sense?
There are so many great things about sence. The widgets, the dialer, the easy faceboook and twitter sync with contacts. Sence is easly skinable, ooooh and the sms widget is the only dedicated sms widget ive seen for android lol
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
i like the widgets but the dialer misses something very important searching by the number ie. sense dialer search for 010445567 is found but search for 44556 isnt found in the list.
and also i dont like people application it doesnt allow me to add more details in number unless its a google contact wich i dont like bec i dont want to store my numbers online.
ie. if its a phone contanct type i cant add mobile 1 and mobile 2 labels for the same contact, but i found an app thats free and does this even for phone contact called phonebook 2.0.
I prefer more home screens, nice big and bold so that its touch friendly.
I know my phone can do a lot if pretty high computational stuff so my brain doesn't need to when navigating around it.
I had cm Rom ex launcher etc etc before on the hero and it felt like there was too many options to edit. Great if you know exactly what you like. But its such a hassle to go through all the possibilities and adjustments. Not to mention hassle of messing it up and correcting.
It's a bit like heavily modifying a car.. its fun, its about identity, its about the fastest or the prettiest or coolest, however there's a lot of time spent behind it plus it will have its practicality drawbacks.
There's nothing wrong with the bog standard look with a few minor easy tweaks, much less time consuming.

I just like the functionality and the widgets from HTC Sense.
It is like last polishing for android.
Personally the only thing I like about sense is the widgets, apart from that sense is a bloatware, just the same as all the other OEM overlays ie. touchwiz, timescape etc.
I think HTC should spend more time innovating hardware rather then spending its resources on software. The main issue I see is that we have to wait so long for software updates just because HTC need to put there crap on top.
Sense has the best integration of Facebook. I can easily see my Facebook events and birthdays in my Android calendar with Sense.
With aosp you need to fart around exporting and importing calendars or using third party apps.
Not important for everyone but it is for me.

Yeah that is what you immediately notice when going from Sense to AOSP.
For me it just provides everything I need, it's very smooth and it's consinstant throughout sense programs. I've tried other launchers but I found myself going very quickly back to sense.

HTC does not manufacture the components that go into their phones, so there is no way they can put more resourses in innovating the hardware. Processors are by Qualcomm, screens are by Sharp (maybe?), cameras, etc. all made by other manufacturers. HTC assembles them and puts their software on top. So their selling point is a/ Sense, b/ Quality and c/ Support. All of them unsurpassed by any other. And before anyone has anything to say about HTC's support, let me ask you when will the SGS receive Gingerbread officialy? We are set for Q2 and it will be a fiasco for Samsung if the SGS (which is basicaly NS minus the NFC) receives the update later than the Desire series.
To answer the OP question - everything. Well everything minus the fact that you can't choose not to use Sense. In WM Sense (TouchFLO 3D) could be "turned off" but not in Android. Not that I would turn it off, but it's always nice to have that option. Anyway, I think the ring volume control is briliant (quiet ring on phone pickup and shutting the ring on phone flip), as I receive a lot of calls and this is perfect for managing your rings when in a meeting, I love the BIG phone button on the bottom (it's a phone after all, so why should it be difficult to open the dialer), I like the Facebook integration (though I might be the only person on that planet that actually hates Facebook) - I use it only for the big updated contact picture when someone calls me. And don't get me started on the widgets - have you noticed how almost all the widgets on the market try (not that successfuly) to copy HTC's? OK there is one more thing I don't like in Sense - lack of landscape. Especialy for the Car Panel and the Locations navi software. But other than that... WOW.

So you are saying HTC are the lesser of two evils? I am not sure about hardware support but software support for all HTC phones is nothing short of pathetic. If and when the Desire series gets Gingerbread then we may be able to re-evaluate HTC, but until then they (and most other Android manufactures) are still miles behind Apple in software support.
I am very pleased with sense and most important for me too is easy integration of facebook and twitter contacts. also all the other theme and skin thing i do like it although sense makes phone overloaded but why do i care my dhd is perfectly capable of handling it with huge RAM and processing horse power .

If you call HTC's support pathetic, then you'll be out of words to describe other manufacturers' support. When did the SGS get Foyo? What about SE's... well maybe their department is also called "support" but that word has nothing to do with reallity. Apple is a totally different ball game. They do not (yes that's right - NOT) compete directly with other manufacturers. Noone else makes iOS devices (and knowing Apple, noone will) so there is no competition for them. They can afford to put so much resourses in support because they actually make money out of it. If you had the original iPhone and have spent few hundred dollars for software over the years you'll move to another iPhone. Apple keeps the customers tied to their own AppStore (the only way you can install applications without jailbreaking) and that way you keep buying their devices. What happens if HTC puts so much resourses in support? They fall behind the other Android phone manufacturers and eventually are out of business. No company would go that way. Fierce competition unfortunatelly leads to bad support (yes HTC's support is bad, but still the best ). If they don't focus on newer hardware, you'll buy your next phone from Samsung, or LG, or whoever and still keep your applications.
There is much to be said about that subject, but this is not the place. This is the place to discuss Sense.

I realise HTC doesn't manufacture all of its components, but have you seen the new MWC 11 HTC lineup? Pathetic in my opinion, no innovation at all, and that HTC flyer tablet is way behind than what the competition is offering, and not even being released with honeycomb.
Like I said the only good thing about sense are the widgets, apart from that theres nothing else that I cant do on AOSP that I can on sense.
My problem with sense is that HTC keep adding and adding stuff to it, most of it is useless anyway, ie locations is pointless when you already have google maps. There will come to a point where we'll be waiting for software updates for ages, compared to something like the nexus series. Its a good way of adding value and differentiating from the competition but is there really a need to keep on adding bloatware with every version of android that comes out?

Locations is a great software (apart from the stupidity to make it work in portrait only). You have Google Navigation, but here in Bulgaria (and many other countries) we don't have it. Also the "offline" Google Maps were launched after the release of the DHD, so it's not really an option when traveling abroad. I actualy liked it so much I was going to buy the license for navigation, but the lack of landscape made me reconsider and went for iGo insted (I like Locations more than iGo though). The best thing in HTC is that you don't have to wait for the official updates - the community support thanks to this great forum is much, MUCH better. My Touch HD two years after I bought it, still had the latest Sense (though I had to turn some of the features off due to the weaker hardware), with the latest 6.5 WM build. My point is you don't have to wait for HTC to bring updates for the DHD (it has almost gone through the half of it's "support life" anyway) you can always have the newest software ported from the next phone. Nexus series will always get the official updates of the core functionality first, but CM7 was released before Google updated the N1, so in a way we got Gingerbread even before Google's own phone . You can always have AOSP soon enough, but they will never have Sense.
About MWC... yes HTC presented weaker phones than the competition, but until the OS and the applications are optimised for dual-cores there is no need for them. HTC is not going to be the inovative company this year, that's for sure. So what? I'm not going to buy a new phone this year anyway .
I really like the alarm app which comes with HTC Sense. My girlfriend has a Galaxy S, and the alarm clock on HTC sense is way better.
- Best interface
- Animations are fantastic
- Clock , mp3 widgets , calendar , weather etc. - Best i've seen
- Fast , Clean
HTC SENSE - the best thing about android .. !
For me its is 3 things:
The recent apps in the notification menu, i use that dozens of times a day. All phones should have something similar (long press doesnt count!)
The text selection and cut + paste implementation. Its awesome.
The unobtrusive facebook contacts integration.
I dont use the sense launcher as there are too many features that it lacks. ( I use ADW EX).
But overall the sense features are useful enough that i dont want to switch to CM7.
Don't forget the awesome spinning wheels when setting an alarm our appointment. The vanilla + - buttons are boring in comparison.

Hi there,
I'm planning to buy Wave 3. I already have 2 android phone so I don't mind if samsung store has fewer apps.
I briefly owned a wave 525 so I wanted to know if things are really improved in Bada 2.
1. How good is built-in web browser (or opera mini or UcWeb) ? Does it lag while scrolling and zooming in-out ?
2. How good is multitasking ?
3. Is it possible to hide status bar to avoid potential screen-burning ?
4. Are there screen problems like color banding, black clipping, color rendering problems on Wave 3 screen ??
Considering its specs for its price Wave 3 is probably best in that price range.
Thanks and best regards.
I am the owner of Wave 3, so I think I can answer your questions:
1. Built-in Browser have average speed, comparable to Nokia Lumia 800s - there is no gpu acceleration, yet lags appear only on flash-heavy sites until they are loaded - other no-flash ones can be scrolled / zoomed even during that process without problems. Opera and UcBrowser are little bit faster, obviously lacking flash support.
2. Multitasking works well in Wave3, yet it is not a system-wide function. What I mean, that this multitasking is app-dependent and isn't so commonly implemented - for example most of the games are single-tasking apps so you can't switch between them, but you can for example switch between game and Browser/Mail/Notes flawlessly (as those app support multitasking). There are bunch of 3rd party apps that support multitasking too, as TuneIn Radio for example, but it is not yet a coding manner for bada.
3. No, you can't hide it but...
4. There is no such problems either
bada OS is tolerable for use as a phone, as long as you don't want any apps.

Is it possible to add multiple languages ? I'm learning Russian and German so these two languages are must for me if I'm gonna buy the phone.
Please help me
hey.. yes i need to add some language too.
i dont know if this is the right place or the general forum is ,but...
1.does the phone have silent mode? with lolipop silent mode was kind of canceled at stock android smartphones and you could only put the phone on vibrate, but the manufacturer UI still had it...
2.thats kind of stupid one but...one of the things i like about sense is the dialer it does not rotating at all! only when in car mode,so in UX 4.0 does the dialer rotate?
3.one of the features i like about touchwiz is that when you watch a video you can see it while it floats around,i know lg got qslide but i dont know if thats one of the options.
4.what apps coming with the phone and can you remove them?
5.did any of you tried greenify ? why do i ask ,well i tried to use it with samsung devices (actually s2,s4.s4 lte-a,s5 all not rooted) and it seemed like greenify didnt get along with them some why...(keyboard didnt work well, talkback didnt stop working, sms app failure and more)
6.do the camera have burst mode like sense? its not a must have feature but its a nice to have...
7.what are the sort categories on the gallery and on the music player?
8. its not a direct question about the UI but still, som one posted on the general furom that he got an update to his lg g4 i did search on google and found nothing about it,so my question is where can i find update list/changelog/or any thing that is connected to software updates...
9.do the headphone plugin on the bottom is comfortable?
keep in mind few things ,i am coming from HTC Desire so...its a huge step forward, i have bad to good english so i am sorry for the spelling mistakes and those question came from playing with other people smartphones

I will try to answer a few of these.
1.does the phone have silent mode? with lolipop silent mode was kind of canceled at stock android smartphones and you could only put the phone on vibrate, but the manufacturer UI still had it...
It does not have silent out of the box, not sure if that can be changed once root access is found, but straight out the box, only way to mute sound is to have it connected to a bluetooth device
2.thats kind of stupid one but...one of the things i like about sense is the dialer it does not rotating at all! only when in car mode,so in UX 4.0 does the dialer rotate?
It rotates whenever you turn the phone on its side, unless you lock the screen in place
3.one of the features i like about touchwiz is that when you watch a video you can see it while it floats around,i know lg got qslide but i dont know if thats one of the options.
You are able to watch videos in Q SLide, its a small window that floats
4.what apps coming with the phone and can you remove them?
I was given the International Version, so as for what apps come on it, depends on which variant you get, whether its ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, so on. But I can say with experience, that ATT comes with tons of bloatware.
5.did any of you tried greenify ? why do i ask ,well i tried to use it with samsung devices (actually s2,s4.s4 lte-a,s5 all not rooted) and it seemed like greenify didnt get along with them some why...(keyboard didnt work well, talkback didnt stop working, sms app failure and more)
Have not tried Greenify
6.do the camera have burst mode like sense? its not a must have feature but its a nice to have...
The camera does have burst mode, just have to hold down the camera button, and it will burst until you take your finger off
7.what are the sort categories on the gallery and on the music player?
Havent really messed with this enough to notice
8. its not a direct question about the UI but still, som one posted on the general furom that he got an update to his lg g4 i did search on google and found nothing about it,so my question is where can i find update list/changelog/or any thing that is connected to software updates...
There have been no updates rolled out for the G4 as far as I know, unless you are not in the states, then I do not know
9.do the headphone plugin on the bottom is comfortable?
Its like having the plug on the top, you wont notice it any differently
Hope this helps some

1.sinse i have HTC Desire running GB 2.3 i can not test it out but...i heard that there are alot of widgets offering to add silent mode to lolipop is it right?
It rotates whenever you turn the phone on its side, unless you lock the screen in place
2.ho well i guess i can live with this...
You are able to watch videos in Q SLide, its a small window that floats
3.Yay.
I was given the International Version, so as for what apps come on it, depends on which variant you get, whether its ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, so on. But I can say with experience, that ATT comes with tons of bloatware.
4.i will get that unlocked international version,i saw some where that mcfee come with it so..,anything else and can i remove mcfee?
Have not tried Greenify
5.you should try it does wonders to the battery life, if you do try it some when let me know(you dont need root for it)
The camera does have burst mode, just have to hold down the camera button, and it will burst until you take your finger off
6.Yay.
Havent really messed with this enough to notice
7.actually the most important thing to me at the music player is folder category and that you slide your finger to move to the next song or previous ,so does the lg g4 have that?
There have been no updates rolled out for the G4 as far as I know, unless you are not in the states, then I do not know
8. this is what makes it weird some one on the general furom posted he got an update ,thats why i wanted to know where i can see upcoming updates or changelogs

9.i can imagin you are probbly right, you can get used to anything.
Hi guys,
Wanted to post this on the dev's page but apparenlty I need more than 10 posts before I can post anything there.. so here it goes first haha
Just wondering how the users who installed sixperience's Note5 port onto their Note4 are doing in general.
I installed v2.0 and it is a very nice port, but seems to have a few bugs/concerns
Camera - Pro mode crashes if I touch focus, colour temperature etc, it will then reject me from entering pro mode again until I reset the camera app's settings. Probably remembers the bad trigger that crashes the app and stays like that until its reset
Camera - Many of the effects do not work, touching the buttons does not do anything and instantly returns to the main view again.
Gallery - cannot play slow motion or fast motion video, it will crash if i try to play it
Widget - I am not sure if this was removed from Note5 or considered as a bloat feature and simply trimmed out by sixperience. Note4 had this scanning document widget (I think it was the basic S note widget) which I could use to take a photo of a paper and it nicely adjusted the colour/skew to create a very easy to read photo of a document/paper notes.
any other users? I believe finding these small issues will help the port becoming better in the coming versions..!
Wrong forum.
haha i know i already said that
What is this port? Is it an app or rom? Sounded like a rom, but after reading your entire post, maybe I misspoke. If it is a rom, then my statement still stands as the AT&T model can't flash a ported rom. Where can I find sixperience's port to look at?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/rom-sixperience-n5-port-v1-0-beta-t3204460
thats the main thread for the rom, its pretty nice really, camera is the only thing about it, i think it is better to just keep note 4 camera if possible as less featured but fully functioning camera is better than more featured but broken camera.. haha
Must say I am quite impressed with the View 20. Have been using the Pixel 2XL for the last 13 months so was quite apprehensive about switching phones, and there are certainly things I will miss from the Pixel ie dual front fitting speakers, Now Playing and monthly updates.
I find the screen on the View 20 to be very crisp, at least to my old eyes, in fact I find it to clearer than the Pixel. The camera is very good, though I need to play with the settings to probably get the most out of it. RAM management seems very good.
Notification light is tiny, and you need to be looking at the screen head on to see it.
FPS is very quick, and has worked 100%, though I must say most of the time I don't get a chance to use it as the facial recognition is so quick.
Am using gestures for navigating, very smooth, at least with the stock Launcher, not so much when using Nova. Whilst they work, swiping up to go Home always briefly brings up the multitasking screen before doing what it should. The one annoying thing is you have to be pretty accurate when typing on keyboard at the edges as very easy to end up swiping left or right which takes you Back.
There does seem to be one bug I have found so far, and that is when switching apps, if you tap on the app that is to the side of the screen, rather than opening it, it drops you back to Home screen.
Only other thing I can think of at this moment is I can't get any notification badge on Gmail, either on stock Launcher or Nova (and all settings are correct)
If anyone has any questions or anything you want me to try, i will do my best to help.

The international version launched only 5 days ago. Did you get a hold of one and if so, can you share where from and what price so it benefits the users here. I am considering purchasing one via a friend (who is flying) from China but he is unable to find the international version there. I am wondering if Google Playstore and subsequently Nova Launcher can be installed on the Chinese version.
It was the international version, purchases in UK from carphone warehouse. 8GB/256GB. On their website at £579.99. They charged me £549.99
Also comes with a free Honor watch (via claim)

Agreed with the OP. Just got the same 128 gig unlocked, a couple of days ago. Coming from an S8 over the last 14 months. Must say the V20 is an awesome device.
Using the stock launcher with gestures. As the OP said, Nova does not seem to work as smoothly with gestures which is a shame. However the stock launcher with app drawer turned on is very good. Only annoying thing is I can't seem to get rid of the hi search which activated whenever you swipe down on any of the home screens. I never use it but can't find a way to turn it off! Any advice welcome!
Anyway the display, design, price point, battery life, are very good value for money. RAM management also very good. Very impressed and would highly recommend to others looking for a good deal.
To the OP: I've not had any issues with Gmail. Might be a software bug. Try clearing cache and resetting it maybe. Return to default settings.
Thanks mate, will try that. Can you confirm the issue with the multi tasking page. When clicking on any app that isn't centre page, it drops you back to home screen?

4k uhd is max. Mine are all available. Sounds like you may have some bugs. Best do a factory reset maybe?

Turned it off and on, that did the job. What about under the setting for resolution, there is AI zoom? Is yours greyed out?

What do you mean when you say unlocked? carrier unlocked or bootloader unlocked?

Thanks mate, will try that. Can you confirm the issue with the multi tasking page. When clicking on any app that isn't centre page, it drops you back to home screen?

Problem with multitasking only send to be a problem with 3rd party launchers, works fine with stock one

Stock launcher gestures are definitely better than either Nova or Action Launcher (especially related to the minimizing app/multitasking screen issue - it's a shame that you can't modify the icon settings more than 5 x 6 to make the stock launcher icons smaller. They just seem unusually large to me coming from my Pixel 2 XL. Action Launcher is a good resolution for now (minus that multitasking screen swipe up).
Does your notification LED work either when the device is plugged in or when you receive a phone call/email?
I just received my version from the UK and no LED notification light ever comes on.
Yes, notification light works, but very rarely notice it as its so small

It's just small but it's there.

You need to download Magic AR app from Huawei app gallery to use that dancing trick with TOF Camera.
Oh, so the multitasking issue is connected with 3rd party launchers. Good to know. I was using Nova launcher and had this issue.
The notification light is working, but it's small, not very bright and ideally you would have to look at it dead straight or from the top of the phone.
I have other issue though: can't get Netflix to play in HD. This phone's Kirin 980 is officially supported by Netflix, but I don't get HD badge next to the titles unfortunately. Other user mentioned that it works, but not for me...
has anyone managed to restore saved wifi passwords? I used the phone clone which copied all my apps/contacts/sms (did not include app data which was a bummer) but I cannot restore all my saved wifi passwords even after loading my google account, my old phone is set to back them up to google account, but this phone wont restore them. My old phone is rooted so I can see the passwords but I have hundreds and don't wan tot do it manually
