What is the easiest way to root this device?

I don't wont to trip any counters...

kingo would be the easiest way. install the program on your computer, connect your device, click a couple times, let it do its thing and you'll have instant root. nothing else changes and nothing is lost. there was some bad feedback about the app but its been cleared up since then.

Seconded. It probably won't even trigger your Knox flag (I have rooted several times with Kingo and my Knox flag is still 0x0)

Why would we not want to trigger that, does that make Knox useless? Reason I ask is because I do use this phone for work with an exchange account and have been curious about this. If I use Knox to just try it out will that screw anything up?

I tripped knox and never looked back I guess I'll figure out what I can do when my jump comes up

Tripping KNOX may make the phone incompatible with certain enterprise scenarios. Using kingo wont trip the counter so it shouldnt matter in your case.

There is one person claiming Kingo tripped his Knox flag despite MI7, so unless we figure exactly why, I would be careful and maybe wait a little.

I don't know about that other person, but I had the same issue, I'm still on MI7, I used Kingo to rood my Note 3, everything was fine until it asked me to install an app called MtkCamera, which I declined, then Kingo kind of frozed and then it restarted. When I checked the Knox counter it was tripped ...so, I would suggest caution with this.

Well, first of all I would ask why do you want to root to begin with and secondly is that reason more important than using it for work. At least In theory Knox was developed for people like you, who have one phone for work and personal use, by providing secure environment for sensitive data. Even if your job doesn't use Knox yet, they may in the future. If I was doing banking or CC transactions on my phone I would seriously consider Knox as well, albeit I have no idea if it would actually serve it's purpose well. If you just test Knox you would need to download some extra software from Samsung, Samsung is aware of security holes and already patched them in the latest bootloaders, so Knox flag will trip when rooting for sure, so I wouldn't be surprised if those security updates wouldn't be the first downloaded as part of Knox suite, when installing it. So here I would speculate, since I have not tried it myself, that you should either root and take your chances, or use Knox and forget about rooting. I wonder if PTJunkie didn't play with Knox, or somehow manage to get Samsung security update, to get his flag tripped, where others didn't. I actually disabled updates to make sure I don't get any new enhancements from T-mo or Samsung.

I have 2 quick questions:
1. root delavega uses att rom, att phones don't have wifi calling, is wifi calling still working as usual on rooted, t-mo phones? or in general Is there anything T-mo specific that breaks after root?
2. I assume bringing the phone back to original would require reflashing original T-mo ROMS? Anything else needs to be flashed?

I haven't flashed back to tmobile stock yet. I still have wifi calling and I make sure to disable my tmobile account because they can tell if you are rooted.

Yeah, when you run that system check, but what can they do? Even if they cared, I'm not sure if they do, if your phone is stock with no flags tripped, I would argue and play stupid if needed return, or repair. Also I wonder if this check could be somehow disabled all by itself, for example by taking away some permissions.

Root via Kingo

I am trying to root via the kingoapp. However when I get to the screen to select my OS and make sure USB debugging is on, there is no option for 4.3. The highest OS is 4.2. Anyone else run into this?

I did and everything worked just fine. I just switched to T-mobile today and got a new note 3. Read about the Kingo here and decided to try it out as I didnt want to trip Knox. I went through the prompts and saw that it said 4.2 but kept going and didnt have any problems with the remaining installation process. Im fully rooted and everything looks good! Just follow the prompts and you should be good Good luck!

im rooted on 4.3 with kingo without any problems. just go ahead, follow the prompts and you'll be rooted in minutes

this method works fine, but in my case it tripped Knox...it asked me to install an app called Mtkcamera, I declined, Kingo kinda froze, then rebooted, when I went to check the Knox counter it was tripped....

Think I dodge the bullet. I declined also on the Mtcamera but it continue working until the warning of a custom recovery
being installed. I had to cancel. I got no root yet and checking download mode, Knox still 0.
People that were able to root successfully without tripping knox, also got the custom recovery being installed warning?

Well at least you the warning. When I used Kingo I saw no warning and the next thing I knew I had cwm on my phone and the knox warranty was tripped. .. crying lol... But it's okay. Probably would have put a custom recovery on it eventually.

did you guys go to the kingo website and use their latest software? i didn't get any of that mtkcamera or cwm installed on my device. my knox is still 0x0. i wondering if you clicked on an outdated link to kingo's software

Another possibility, however remote, just came to my mind: did anyone, who did get the flag tripped, play with Knox? It comes partially preinstalled, but if you run it, it will download and install some more files. I was speculating, maybe that caused Samsung update some extra files that trip Knox, they already patched anything above MJ7 and even if you uninstall Knox some new things are left behind. Just a crazy idea.

Root De La Vega is a bit safer. Lots of spyware/IEMI stealing rumors about Kingo. Thaat said if there was no other way I'd have used them too.

I was able to successfully root with Kingo. I remember getting the warning about installing MTK camera app but I accepted it. I did not get any additional warning during installation and I am rooted with Knox still at 0x0.
I received the latest version of the software 1.18. I saw something on their facebook page stating that it can use custom recovery as a way to gain root. Im thinking it some how uses the camera app to gain root and if you decline it, then it has to use the custom recovery option.

Let me add on a bit to my initial response. Rooting the phone will trip Knox. Has been this way for quite some time. Discussed across many thread here and elsewhere.
Now the question comes up as to what do you lose by tripping Knox? Samsung Pay will never work for you. Android Pay may or may not work. Many people have been able to get it working at least in part, but disable Root (via SuperSu) when using Android Pay. I don't use either of those, so I don't care.
Then the question comes up if this voids warranty. The answer is only if you say "Hey, I rooted my phone and then broke something!" If you need warranty for a physical defect, go back to stock via Odin and you shouldn't have a problem. If you root your phone and then install a ROM not meant for your phone or local (like a Note ROM or an international ROM) you are probably going to mess something up that will be immediately obvious. The solution is not to do that.
Realistically, there aren't a ton of great ROMs available for this phone and most are based on stock anyway. No CM13 as yet. If you can live with your phone un-Rooted, that might be the wisest choice.
That said, I rooted my phone as soon as I got it. I went the full route, didn't care about tripping Knox and still don't. I have run both Renegade and TeamSPR ROMs and have been happy with them.
Now you can decide what to do.

Or u could root ur phone n install xposed on it ... Rooted S6 stock rom is now compatible with xposed its better than any custom roms out there

In my case, I only need temporary root. After that it maybe removed. So it would be nice to be able keep knox from being tripped if possible. Installing twrp is an additional step too that I would like to avoid again because it would serve no purpose since root would only be temporary. I also wanted to be sure that build G920PVPU3CPD3 could be rooted. Thanks for your input guys.

(Question) rooting and back to stock

It’s been awhile since I had a Samsung phone
Anyhow I remember that if you are rooting your phone I will not be able to go back to stock and keep receiving updates regularly and also the user will not be able to use any Samsung service since there is some security on the device board
I wonder if it’s still the situation in galaxy s21 series

Yes OTA updates will be disabled for the rooted device. But you can easily install them if you so wish without loosing root by temporarily removing root without rebooting the device. Follow this guide for full process.
As for the services, I didn't hear about a service that's disabled by rooting. But if it happens you can easily replace said services by downloading alternatives or using specific modules in magisk manager.

Not at all.
You can just do this:
Unroot.
Remove Samsung and google account.
Flash stock ROM [Optional, unless you flashed a custom ROM]
Lock the bootloader.
And that's it you can sell it as just lightly used.

I think you wouldn't be able to use Secure Folder after root.

Knox is disabled after rooting, similarly anything knox dependant will be disabled as well. I thought he meant some other services like samsung health or other bloatware.

I have and use android phones last 10+ years, always rooted. But I never had samsung phone.
Now I hear only half informations from my buddy, that its dangeous to root samsung because of knox (i dunno what knox even is).
So, now I'm thinking to buy S20 and want to root it, and my question is..:
If I root it, is anything ''broken'' on the phone ? Can phone still recieve official Samsung OTA updates?
What are minuses? what to look for? What about this "knox"?

Well, I've owned a couple of Samsung devices over the years and I guess I can speak a bit from experience. Here's what you should know:
1.- U.S. phones have their bootloaders locked, so avoid buying a U.S. variant if you want to root it (some people want them for their Snapdragon chips)
2.- Knox is an e-fuse in the phone motherboard. Once you trip it by flashing custom software (root it), then that fuse will be tripped forever. You cannot get your Knox your status back to official unless you change the motherboard. Even flashing stock firmware will never get you this back to official.
3.- A lot of Samsung's security apps check for this fuse and will refuse to work if they detect that you've tripped it. Samsung Pay, Pass, Secure Folder are just some examples of features that will stop working when they detect a tripped Knox fuse. Some of these have bypass with root, but some don't.
4.- You will not get OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader, let alone root. It IS possible to get them back but only after flashing stock firmware and blocking the bootloader. These don't seem to check for Knox.

Hiiii. I currently have a Samsung S20 and I have rooted it before. Once you root it Knox security will be tripped and you will not be able to get it back. This means you will lose access to apps like Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass and Samsung Health. You will not receive OTA updates if you're rooted, but if you flash stock firmware again and lock the bootloader you can start receiving updates again. I currently have a custom ROM installed and I have my ROM rooted. To me, it's been a great experience overall. I didn't really use the Knox features, so I didn't care much about losing it. I have loved rooting my S20 and using a custom ROM !!

Actually you can use Samsung Health, just currently no version above 6.19 (2 versions behind current) until we find a way to patch it...i use it daily with my Watch 4 on Rooted S20+ 5G....

Ohh okay !!! Thank you for letting us know !! I don't use Samsung Health so I had not tested it myself, but I had heard that Samsung Health doesn't work with root. Thanks for telling us it works fine !!

so, when rooted there are no OTAs.. thats a nono for me heh.. but question, if no OTAs come from mobile itself, is it possible to get uprades through PC then.. (Kies) maybe ?

Yeah you can flash updates with something like Odin (never used Kies myself, I don't know if it still works)
