Question Using a USBC dock - Red Magic 8 pro

So I attempted to connect my device to a portable monitor via a USBC docking station. The monitor has a micro HDMI in and a USBC port that supports video. The docking station has an HDMI out port that I was attempting to use.
My set up was: I connected the Redmagic 8pro to the docking station via USBC, then the docking station to the monitor via HDMI to Micro HDMI.
The phone is saying that it IS casting but I am not getting any video on the monitor.
I have tested just connecting the phone to the monitor with no docking station using a USBC cable only and it works just fine.
I tested the dock with a different device with the same set up as before and was able to connect with no issues.
Obviously I can just connect via USBC and call it a day but I would like to use the dock because I would also be able to charge my phone and connect USB peripherals as well as the monitor.
Does anyone have any idea why the I can't connect using the dock and the HDMI connection?

I have tried with 2 different Steam Deck docking station from Amazon and HDMI was not working.
I am suspecting a usb alt mode driver issue. The phone also gets a bit lost like charging - disconnected -charging -....
The ethernet, storage, keyboard mouse are working but in the Android logs I dont see any HDMI related logs, so since I was able to build the Linux kernel (with the DP alt mode module), I have to flash, test again but it takes time for me .
I am a bit disappointed that it does not work from the begining, but it is a good step that Nubia is releasing the kernel source code.
The only solution I am aware from reviews is to use a direct HDMI to USBc adapter

Thank you for the reply. It is very unfortunate because without being able to connect to the dock you cannot charge the device while connected to a monitor. Have you tried using any non Steam Deck docking stations, just out of curiosity? I am considering trying a couple. It is probably a waste of time but this is a very frustrating issue and I have not been able to find anything close to a solution.

An Update! I found a dock that I was able to use to successfully connect my device to my portable monitor. I will link all of the hardware I am using, please share with any other users attempting to use a similar set up.

Micro usb splitter?

Hi i wonder where i can buy a microusb splitter for my phone so that i can use, both usb keyboard and hdmi cable together. I just tried keyboard+mouse using a usb hub, and it worked fine...
does it even exist?
Sorry, but this can't work. When the phone is putting out HDMI, the USB can't be used as it takes the same connector pins. You can do what you want with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but sorry, not with wired.
try to find the smallest hub there is, that's the closest you will get to a usb splitter that works. Just splitting will never work, the signals have to be divided with some intelligence.
/edit... never mind didn't read the MHL/HDMI part... don't think that will work
I am also intrested in this topic. I want to plug in the HDMI cable and s remote controler. I want to use my phone as a media center.

You flat out can't; it is a limitation of the more common MHL implementation, and the Galaxy Nexus uses this MHL implementation.
Samsung had to use a new kind of MHL connection for the Galaxy S 3 to make this exact scenario possible.
*edit* You can plug in an HDMI cable and use a bluetooth remote, though, if that might work for your needs.

[Q] MHL HDMI working through a USB hub?

I am interested in hooking up my GN to a monitor along with a mouse and keyboard. I just got bored and thought it would be fun to use my phone as a sort of computer.
I have made my own OTG USB cable and have hooked up everything separately and have full functionality of everything individually. The problem lies in the fact that video out requires a MHL HDMI adaptor... which occupies the USB plug on the phone, my only thought has been to use a USB hub as I don't have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Before I go tearing up my MHL HDMI adaptor, does anyone know if it is possible to plug the MHL adaptor into the USB hub and have it work? Are there some issues with power that I haven't even considered, since the MHL adaptor has to have its own power and even supplies the phone with electricity when connected?
Its only a $10 part, so I am going to do it if I don't get a solid answer here and will report back if it works.
Thanks
Sorry, no it won't work. When the MHL is plugged in, the USB pins are reconfigured to do the video, USB data can't work simultaneously. The best way is to get bluetooth keyboard and mouse and use the MHL adapter for the video.

MHL + OTG possible?

As in title, is it possible to use MHL with OTG?
I mean like that : Phone->MHL->OTG, MHL need power to work from what I know, so what about mircoUSB Y cable-> MHL + OTG?
Negative friend. It does not work. Even if you have the connecters, the micro USB can only act as one or the the other at a time.
Thats the ONLY reason I bought an apple magic trackpad (the only bluetooth peripheral with pinch to zoom, yada yada), to control gnex when its pushing mhl to tv. See living digitally for a demo.
But does the device charge, when connected to MHL adapter then?
Yes, the MHL adapter needs to be plugged into a microUSB to function, it does power the phone. And if you are only pushing HDMI out, it should charge.
I have a fast charge ROM&kernel, so it will charge even if using hdmi, bluetooth, dowloading torrents....
Thank you, I just asked, as I will soon get the device, for now I only ordered the extended battery, and desktop dock. Not really want to use the usb port too much, also I dont know if I will need hdmi, btw, the hdmi dock have a usb port, but the dock not mirror the screen, only good for videos, and photos, so maybe it can use otg? I'm not sure, if the usb port only for charging, but again, it not use hdmi all the time, also I guess no good for games, mhl sucks guys, why couldnt they use separate hdmi, like motorola?
Not 100% sure, but I think the USB in the dock is only for charging, check out the reviews.
As for single port, I believe the Gnex, being google's vision for the fututre, is ahead of its time. Its supposed to be all wireless connections soon. Google Smart TV, bluetooth 3 & 4, WiDi, NFC.... see the trend. I'm suprised there are fewer bluetooth peripherals.
I would look at the next motorola phones to see where the future is going...

Hdmi Dock

Is there a dock that charges and does hdmi out? Thinking this would be cool to play emulators or GTA on my big screen, paired with a wiimote or ps3 controller
To connect to the a TV you will need an MHL to HDMI adapter like this. I'm not sure if it charges at the same time, but it should, being that it connects via the USB port on the phone. If you search around the web, you'll definitely find much affordable deals. Cheers!

at least, if not charge, it maintains the charge level.
from your link:
The HDTV Smart Adapter supports HD signals up to 1080p. Connects directly to a standard HDMI cable for easy connectivity to home theater or monitor. Requires power from a wall charger. Can connect directly to your MHL-Enabled mobile phone to create an HDMI docking station. Requires wall charger (sold separately) to power the adapter while in use. (HDMI cable not included)”

You cannot connect more than one USB cable to your phone, so unfortunately that is not possible. Which controller exactly do you need to connect to your phone?
If by any chance you are planning to use a PS3 controller, pairing it with your phone through Bluetooth and using the Six Axis Controller app is the best way to go.
Edit: In that way, you will still be able to connect the phone to your TV via the MHL cable
if you hsve a frys electronics in your town, they have this item for $24. WORKS WELL.

yeah, u can use micro usb to hdmi adapters or use samsung allshare cast dongle which does this job wireless.
3 options:
Samsung MHL adapter.
you plug your charger and an HDMI cable into the adapter, adapter goes into your micro usb port.
pros: small, cheap.
cons: can't use external storage, doesn't fit with many cases/covers, only works with adapters made specifically for the S3/4 and note 2(generic MHL adapters have less pins).
smart dock.
works the same as the MHL adapter but has some extra functions.
pros: comes with its own charger, adds 3 USB ports for mouse, keyboard, and USB storage.
cons: desktop mode(plug in a mouse, phone screen turns off) is slow, without a mouse your phone is stuck in portrait for rotating apps, expensive.
allshare cast dongle.
little box that connects to your TV through HDMI and comes with its own power cable+wall plug.
you can keep the box plugged in, connects like a Bluetooth headset but using the allshare cast menu(Wi-Fi) instead of Bluetooth.
pros: wireless, otg cable, charger, and data cable can still be connected.
cons: compression artifacts show while playing heavy games or when playing unsupported video files(software decoding), tricky to get to work when you have cwm installed, even with Wi-Fi disabled your phone may randomly connect to your network causing the allshare connection to be reset, expensive.
best choice would probably be an MHL adapter.
allshare cast can be interesting if you have other recent Samsung galaxy devices(camera, s3/4, note 10.1/8)
smart dock can be interesting if you want to use your phone as a desktop computer.
