Another gapps with LineageOS 20? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Since there is an official LineageOS 20 ROM for S9(+) I wonder if there are other gapps replacements known to work in combination with LineageOS 20 on the S9+.
MindTheGapps is the default LOS recommendation which is working fine, but it doesn't upgrade some default legacy apps like gallery, phone, contacts (are all prehistory apps) and some are known to cause problems with other (newer) apps. I have examples, but this is not relevant to the question now.
Are there some good alternative gapps providers, which are known to work with LOS20 and is worth installing on S9(+)? Like flamegapps, nikgapps... Let's discuss.
Regards,
Lajos

OpenGapps but AFAIK they only go up to A11.

Camera not working on lg g5 h850 lineage os 17.1

I have installed successfully lineage os 17.1 on my device but I'm experiencing some problems. One of them is the camera not working: as soon as I open the included camera app, I can see only a black screen. I tried installing third party camera apps like gcam but I get the same black screen. I can't use the camera even on apps such as telegram. Another annoying issue I've came across is that the rotation sensor doesn't work: when I flip the phone horizontally, the content doesn't flip (I have set automatic rotation in the toggle menu). Last but not least, I can't use the Youtube app. First I installed the app from the play store and it opens but I can see just a blue spinning circle without any video. Then I installed the app from an older apk but the problem persists. These are the only problems I'm currently having (over than NFC not being recognized) but except these, I'm having e great experience with this rom.
I also had the issue with my LG G5 (RS988).
Been meaning to submit an bug report but never got around to installing logcat.
Firstt boot, but seems already rotated, but camera expcetions are there too.

That I tried before, same issue.. Then I found this unofficial, which is newer. But still not work...
That unofficial thread contains 45 pages, hard to read whole of them. But on some 12th page I found step to install first 15 then 16 then 17.1 but do not know if that was only for "unofficial" version or if I should do that also for official one.
For now I return stock firmware as long I need working phone and do not have time at work to play with phone Maybe during weekend I will get sort of time to try those steps like 15 --> 16 --> 17

And it's not me who fill bug report, I only have same issues as both guys before me, but I did logcat for them as they wrote "noone did logcat".

Hello
i'm using official lineage os 17.1 on my G5
lineage stock camera is working but quality is poorer than LG stock ROM and wide angle is not available
GCam is always crashing when launching, plus auto-rotate and NFC are not working
latest lineage version is almost 1 month old, do you know if it's still maintained ?
Thx
I would recommend you all read the post (No.136) from the link below, especially if you're having camera, NFC, or other issues and have skipped flashing 15.1 and 16.0 after coming from stock.

The build servers have been down for three weeks. There is currently no ETA on when they will be restored, it's also possible the delay is related to the Coronavirus lockdown. The recent hacking of LOS servers appears unrelated to the build server outtages. It's just a personal opinion but I would strongly recommend against flashing unofficial over official. This could create unintended bugs, and may result in you having to clean flash 17.1 official at a later date - it's better to wait till the build servers are restored. There is a link at the bottom of post 136 for their current status. As these issues have been documented as far back as LOS 15.1, logcats are unnecessary in this instance.

thanks @pedro1977
i first unlocked my h850 and then installed official LOS 17.1 (without flashing to_x86cpu.zip, 15.1 or 16 before)
so if i understand your post 136, i must follow this steps :
- full backup with latest twrp
- flash to_x86cpu.zip
- clean flash 15.1 (unofficial ? i did not found any 15.1 official version to download...)
- dirty flash 16.0 unofficial
- clean flash 17.1 official
right ?
if everything is working after all this steps, will i be able to restore my 17.1 backup ?

Answers next to your questions.
Depends on what you want to restore, most will restore from your Google backup if you have enabled it. In addition to twrp, you could use an app called migrate, should you want to restore something specific.

I recommend you link a Google account, you could do so with your current rom, and manually backup your settings and then restore after flashing your new one.
Another and more risky option, would be once you flash 17.1 official, before rebooting, you could try and restore your data partition from your twrp backup, ensure you flash the same dated nightly official as when you created your backup - if you can't remember, you can see this in settings.
If this doesn't work, you could restore some items from your migrate backup (excluding settings like WiFi - use a WiFi settings app and write them down). This is good for restoring apks but with data I found it didn't always restore everything and may cause some bugs, same could apply to permissions settings.

Here's the solution
I had the same issue but i know the solution
First you need to install lineage os 15.1.
After that check that everything is working. If everything is fine then dirty flash lineage os 16 ( flash lineage os 16 by itself without wiping). Then if everything is still working dirty flash lineage os 17.1 but now if you are upgrading from unofficial to official wipe first and then install lineage os. If you are upgrading from unofficial to unofficial then dirty flash the rom normally
Now you should have working sensors and cameras, but keep in mind that the IR blaster is still not working and the video quality will not be as good as with the stock app if you really need 1080p 60 fps video

I'm not responsible for any damage to your device of any sort.
By flashing this you take responsibility of anything that happens.
Process at your own risk!
If you want to check firmware - please make backup. Better to store all partitions.
I'm using pico/nano gapps.
Instructions
1. Install custom recovery
2. Download the zip(s) - firmware and Google Apps additional package (optional)
3. Full wipe all
4. Flash firmware and gapps

Many thanks @Valera1978.
Cleanly flashed with Data format used the TWRP 3.3.1-0 like for LOS16, instead of 3.4.0-0 with BiTGapps and Magisk.
No more unwanted appearences on the screen when turning. :good:
When focussing on a text the field now shows the letters. :good:
Camera, as you wrote, not working at all. so what
Will carry on testing.
LOS16 will be abandoned, or not?
Is there any battery efficiency improvements with these updates?

I think yes. start to the los 16 was done for several reasons:
- I had the experience of switching to the android 10 on 3 different series (exynos7870, qcom800 and qcom820) - in all cases with working android 9 it was a huge number of problems, switch to android 10 I think the most difficult in my memory
- Old device config, every new version has some problems, so it was easier to jump from working 14.1 to 16.0
- faster build 16 minutes on my computer for los 16 vs 26 minutes
Right now in the los 16 we have more problems, then in los 17, and i don't see any reason to spend a weeks for fix it. Better focus on los 17 for some code clean up.
I can live with the death of LOS16 very well.
Having your LOS17 on my T325 as well and I love it.
Btw. Firefox has still the same problems while other browsers work.

I did get a reboot when using the pen in Squid but after restart I played with Squid for a while with no problem!

Thats why I had to modify the APK so it will not update.
The old firefox (I think) is the best browser for this tablet.
The new firefox is much worse, even for normal phones.
So a fix for whyever firefox does not render the pages would be great
Anyone having troubles using the Mic? Everytime I try to use anything related the tab restarts o.o
Also having "updating OK Google model service" download error.

Thanks @Valera1978 for LOS 17.1 it works good with a few problems but it maybe the apps like Firefox causing reboots and camera otherwise I like this ROM. Thanks again for your great work ???

Didn't test mic yet as camera not working don't need it then.
Usually I'm using Opengapps pico but that still includes Google TTS what BiTGapps doesn't.
The latter you find in XDA.
Both ARM of course.
Don't have the link right now.
Just noticed pen not recognised at all.
Edit: suddenly it does. Didn't do anything special.

Just the Mic Problem, i need it to use Microsoft Teams for calls xD
Congrats!
new update:
1. updated cpu config in dev tree (correct variant cortex-15 config)
2. updated power profile (and here found interesting setting in kernel to speed-up cpu freq up to 2100MHz and seem it's work)
3. updated kernel - net part, I had issues with net on start and made small fix, but now ported all net part from my msm8974 (same 3.4 kernel, but more up to date). firefox still dnw (will continue check), but at least no kernel panic
mic - this is my next priority

I am using 18.1 with magisk and have root and everything, my only issue with this rom is several of the google play apps i use won't even install on it saying it is incompatible, but they worked fine on stock. You have to use the Magisk Hide option, and select everything with "com.google" in the package name.
Does this work with G9730 Chinese / Hong kong snapdragon variant?
Just got so sick of OneUI crashing all the time so I thought I'd give this a whirl. All good so far except for Google Maps can't seem to properly display. All the elements get huge when Maps is active, including the phone interface itself. Switching to any other app returns the normal look. I have googled as many different search terms as I could think of to see if anyone else is having this issue but I have come up with nothing. Screengrabs attached.
Google Photos has a similar issue only it just crashes after some screen difficulty.

[HOTWORD] About hotword detection / Google assistant not working on Android 11 ROMs. Changing Gapps WON'T fix it.

Hi guys.
I wanted to say something here. In this forum and elsewhere in the internet people are complaining about "Ok Google" being unavailable/greyed out.
People often recommend others to "flash NikGapps/MindTheGapps/FlameGapps" whatever else, which doesn't solve the issue and makes people waste their times.
I am not a dev, so I might be a bit mistaken, but I talked to some devs from StyxOS/LineageOS devs and they all told me it is because of something called "hotword blobs" that is needed by Android 11. Without those it doesn't work, regardless of which gapps you're using.
AFAIK, the it only works in LineageOS 18.1 for the Redmi 7 device. I tried it and it works with any Gapps (mindthegapps, NikGapps, FlameGapps and OpenGapps). Beware that the OpenGapps version is broken and a lot of stuff goes wrong with it, you shouldn't use it.
ROMs I tested where it doesn't work (only official ROMs)
- Nusantara 3.0 (Android 11)
- StyxOS
- PixysOS
- HavocOS 4.5/4.6
and a few other unnofficial ROMs
This doesn't mean there's a problem with the ROM. Except for HavocOS, which I just installed to check whether this was working, I used all the other ROM's for a few days or weeks and they're all stable.
ROM I tested where it works:
So far:
- LineageOS 18.1
- Any Android 10/MIUI ROM
If you choose LOS 18.1 be aware that SafetyNet is currently broken and MagiskHide Props won't fix it, and that flashing custom kernels will trigger all sorts of weird bugs (phone doesn't reboot/shutdown, simcard data switches itself, distorted audio, you name it).
Flashing Xiaomi.eu 12.5 causes bootloop, you need to flash disabled vbmeta for it to work. If I'm not mistaken OK Google is working in it too.
Thanks.
Thanks for your post, I have the same issue and didn't understand what was wrong.
At least now I know it isn't about Gapps.
It would be great if somebody knows how to add these blobs to ROMs not having them already.

Lineage 19.1 + MindTheGapps 12.1: Google Cloud Messaging not working

Hello,
i have freshly installed Lineage Os 19.1 (on Poco F3) and the most recent MindTheGapps package. Everything works fine so far, except it is not possible to register to push notifications (google cloud messaging). This drains my battery really fast and some apps do not work at all.
Are there any additional steps that i have to do, do make this work. Should this work out of the box? How can I check what application must be installed or what service must run?
I know there is a microg way for this, but this is sadly no option for me.
Thanks in advance,
Danny
where did you find the link for mindthegapps 12.1?
