Well, I unlocked my A52 4G (from 2021) and flashed LOS, then went back to stock. So right now I have the boot-loader unlocked with stock OS and cameras still work. I'm not sure how old your phone is though.

Unlocked and ready. I am guessing we will have a non tethered twrp soon, and then the real fun will begin.
Waiting for the 2.19 update for my ZE550ML, hopefully, this will still be possible when it comes out =)

okay then. what i will get if i unlock the bootloader?
what is the purpose? to flash custom kernel or custom rom?
i know about bootloader on SONY devices but i dont know about ASUS devices.
Not until TWRP is available
I will at some point, just waiting to see if decent roms show up that make it worth it. Given the intel chip we cannot assume development will thrive.
Otherwise I might as well just keep it locked with easy OTA's. I'm pretty happy with stock
I'm waiting for different kernels and roms. I'm excited this has already been completed. I had an at&t note 3 before the ZF2. They still have a locked bootloader. The kernels for the unlocked note 3s were pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to playing with the ZF2
Yep. Already unlocked. Just waiting for non-tethered custom recovery and the 5.1.1 update!
But I'm sticking with stock or stock-like ROM. AOSP on non-AOSP devices always results in losing features and capabilities.
i unlocked yesterday morning, waiting for all the goods to start
Can't as my 551ml still has not received the ota.

Well I'm trying to fix and issue I'm having with the camera flash, ever since the update it will only flash once and then will not work again with any app no matter what until I do a restart. It worked before the update and nothing happened to the phone so I wanted to see if going back might fix it before I have to get a refurbished one from Verizon.

Well first you need to unlock your bootloader: http://theroot.ninja/depixel8.html
After that, download the P factory image from Google's site and follow instructions to install. Just remember to backup stuff you want (photos, files, anything saved on storage) because unlocking will perform a factory reset.

Already unlocked and downloaded the images and tried to install as the directions but during the process it says boot.img and recovery.img is missing even though I did exactly what it said.

Did you copy the files into the fastboot and adb program file?
They need to be in there for it to work.

There might not be any refurbished phones to send you so you might luck out. Better to try now than later when they have a big stock of returned phones. Or I'm crazy and you'll get one either way...

Unlocking vzw bootloader Android O beta?

Just a thought, has anyone tried this? Just curious.
I don't believe there are any devs working on it since the last update that patched the "Depixel8" software. Seems they've given up on the VZW variant. There is a bounty somewhere in these forums. For both bootloader unlock exploit and temp root to flash TWRP and hopefully SuperSU. But I don't know if anyone is trying or what.

Honestly what is in it for the devs to find another exploit, just for it to be patched again, especially that there is an unlocked model of the phone. If they all were locked down, most likely they would try. Honestly just sell the VZW Version and buy the GPE. It is still locked on O, while being TMO.

Pixel XL 2 - "Your device is corrupt" after OTA.

Took an OTA and now whenever I turn the device on it says in red letters: "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly". I can still boot into the OS normally. I can still access fastboot. I can still access recovery. I have done many searches and people keep saying to relock the bootloader or unlock the bootloader and flash stock firmware. There's no way to do either because this Verizon variant is locked down like Fort Knox. I don't understand why the bootloader has to be unlocked to flash STOCK firmware straight from Verizon. Smh. Anyways, does anyone have any ideas. about how to get rid of this message?

You could side load the Google OTA image and see if that fixes it. Or just wait until next week and see if the March OTA fixes it. If your device is working properly, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

While I haven't done it personally, I've seen several people do just that from stock recovery. At worst, the install will fail and nothing will be changed. Unlocking the bootloader is mainly for flashing factory images and rooting, not OTA's. Just follow the instructions from Google and see what happens. In your current situation, you really have nothing to lose.

So I can flash that with no radio issues? I thought OPM1 is google, OPM2 is Telus only, and OPD3 is Verizon only? I have a Verizon P2XL
Edit: I think I've found my issue. The person who had the device before me must have sideloaded 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.018, Feb 2018)" to this device and that may be the reason for the error. I am thinking because that's not the Verizon P2XL firmware but the Google P2XL device firmware.

root info?

Hey all!
I'm new to Samsung completely, I have experience rooting, as I've had multiple Nexus devices, and other rootable phones. Just never had a Samsung. I recently took the Oreo OTA update, and was wondering about the best rooting method? Ive read that you lose secret folder. Is there a way to keep that?
Basically I just want to debloat more and theme without having to use Andromeda, as that is annoying.

Rooting for Verizon is not happening as of now as they Lock the Boot-Loader and just Phones aren't as easy to Root now
Yes it will work fine on oreo, as long as the 2nd to last number of the version you are on isn't a 3. Example:
Good: G950USQU2CRB7
Not Good: G950USQU3CRC6
^-- That right there is a no no for now
But afaik there is so rom in existence for 950u with a 3 there. Just something to watch for in the future.
You don't need to flash back to nougat stock first either. Your should be able to go straight to pcr. If you have trouble with the first step you can try flashing part 2 first, followed by 1 then 2 again, but i fine expect you will have any issues.

Not exactly, this is a root/rom combo. So it will downgrade you back to Nougat version 2 bootloader firmware, root your device, and flash a ROM all at the same time. So there is no way to flash a different ROM since the rooting process and ROM flashing is built into one step.

True, but if anyone is still lucky enough to be on version 2 bootloader on Oreo they still can downgrade to Nougat version 2 bootloader and use that Root/ROM combo to root their device since it works on ver. 2 bootloader but not 3. And yeah, screw Verizon!

Yeah its flashing an engineered firmware, and it trips knox which is needed for secure folder I think. I looked on my S8+ and couldn't find secure folder anywhere, so I'm guessing the ROM removes it.

Whatever happened to those days. S**t, the last few ROMs I was flashing on the N6 were all pretty much the same. I miss being pissed off that one rom had all the things I wanted but looked hideous. Then everything got CM based and themes were everywhere. Then it all just got the same. Then it all got locked down. Almost like Android and Google were playing the devs getting them to make the mods, then them steal them, and incorporate them, then lock it down.

I'm sorry for this basic question, but does the phone being carrier unlocked make any difference? I know that has nothing to do with the bootloader; I'm simply asking if the phone not being Verizon-specific has any effect on rootability ... I was just about to purchase an unlocked S8+ when I saw this thread and almost spewed Mountain Dew all over my monitor. I had no idea Verizon had squelched root, although no surprise there, right?

When you say international version, is that simply the carrier unlocked version? And do you know if there is a certain model number or letter designation after the model number I should be looking for? I'm shopping on Swappa and eBay and need to be really careful. Thank you for the help, by the way.
