Unlocking vzw bootloader Android O beta? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Just a thought, has anyone tried this? Just curious.

I don't believe there are any devs working on it since the last update that patched the "Depixel8" software. Seems they've given up on the VZW variant. There is a bounty somewhere in these forums. For both bootloader unlock exploit and temp root to flash TWRP and hopefully SuperSU. But I don't know if anyone is trying or what.

Bunch of quitters. lol

I have it works perfectly

Honestly what is in it for the devs to find another exploit, just for it to be patched again, especially that there is an unlocked model of the phone. If they all were locked down, most likely they would try. Honestly just sell the VZW Version and buy the GPE. It is still locked on O, while being TMO.

[Q] Root Incredible 3?

Is it possible to Root the Dinc 3? If not yet can one reasonably expect a solution anytime soon or has Verizon found a way to cripple this (for me at least) mission critical modification>
Thanks
It hasn't been rooted..im sure if/when it's released, probably q1 or q2 of 2012 someone will end up finding out how to root it.

Oh maybe you meant the Moto Droid 3. wrong forum bud.
HTC announced in May that they will no longer be locking their boot loaders so when and if a dinc 3 does come out it shouldn't be a problem.

Rooting has nothing to do with the bootloader. Besides that, OP is completely oblivious to what he's even talking about.

Unlocked bootloader = Root. Once u unlock the bootloader you can put whatever you want onto your phone, i.e. clockwork mod and rooted roms.

If u unlock the bootloader you can almost guarantee root, because you can flash whatever you want. Therefore unlocked bootloader = root...
You are right though, root does not = unlocked bootloader.

Unlocked bootloader is so you can put custom recovery and flash images. Root is having su permissions in Android OS.

I know this...my point is that getting root after HTC unlocks the bootloader will be as easy as flashing a custom recovery and a rom with su. There shouldn't be any need to find exploits to gain root.
Ex.
Fastboot oem unlock
Flash clockwork from bootloader
Wipe and flash custom Rom of choice.

Aren't the only devices that can be "fastboot OEM unlock"ed developer devices like the nexus and xoom? I know that other devices that don't have encrypted bootloaders can usually be rooted easily but I thought it was still more of a process than a simple ADB command.

If HTC really allows people to unlock their device, that might be one possible method they use. Personally I think they will try and find someway to permanently mark the bootloaders are unlocked so they can make sure the carriers can void warrenties (Much like the Nexus One had a picture of a lock to show if you unlocked your bootloader). I'm sure everyone read it but here's HTC's latest status update. http://www.facebook.com/notes/htc/update-on-bootloaders/10150305151453084
It'll be interesting to see what they do. Realistically, they could just leak the unlockable bootloaders and the good folks here on xda would take care of the rest..
It would be disappointing to me if they included some sort of warranty voiding measure as I don't see why the warranty wouldn't still apply to the hardware.

So, is there a root method yet for Android 4.4 Sense 5.5 on the Verizon HTC One or do we have to wait for an exploit?

People have been asking almost everyday for an unlock method in the Galaxy S4 forums for about 9 months now with no luck so unfortunately asking doesn't seem to get any better results
I don't know why but after I upgraded (OTA) to 4.4 my phone is now unlocked and S-Off. My contract was up a week earlier and I called regarding an unlock token but was told I needed to have a third party do it. Totally contrary to the Agreement the 4 majors had with the gov't in December over unlocking phones when contracts were up. So I'm just hanging out waiting for one of the resident masters to figure out a root.

If you're unlocked and s-off all you need to do is flash a recovery like TWRP and then flash a prerooted rom (most are pre rooted). It's the getting S-off part that many are still waiting to get figured out. You're free to flash away.

I'd be up for someone creating a general Q&A for this phone. It would have helped me quite a bit when I was just starting. I know enough to get one started but I'd feel better if I could get more experienced people contributing to it.

Ya, I think you can just flash a superuser.zip in recovery (you will need to flash a recovery first. Either TWRP or CWM...I prefer TWRP). It's been awhile, but I know it's not hard. There used to be a little tutorial in OP of the Rumrunner thread on how to gain root but I'm not sure if it's there anymore.

Im very confused. From what i gathered from the devs they are releasing everything for all devices at the same time, i.e. a universal bootloader tool, or is this not the case anymore...im itching to get my bootloader unlocked and this isnt an ask for an eta or anything, im just wondering if i have got my wires crossed. My d855 has been rooted since day one with no issues and im worried my bootloader will forever be sealed.....is the tool people are saying is available this weekend, the universal bootloader unlock?

you "gathered" wrong..
dev's usually release things when they get them working perfectly, and have a safe way for N00bs to install things without immediately bricking their precious devices.
"Universal" bootloader tool is a pipe dream so dont hold your breath waiting for that
Rumors are just that; rumors, so when your phone's bootloader gets unlocked, you will surely know for sure; until then, its all just SWAG..

Are you one of the devs working on bootloader unlocks...? Because the ones i know definitely are seem to disagree with what you are saying, despite what devs 'usually' do.
From what i see here, it is universal root and universal unlock they are looking to achieve.

They are looking for a universal root for all the variants.
They are also trying to unlock all the variants.
They think that unlocking one variant might allow the unlocking of other variants, but not necessarily all variants.
They are not looking for a 'universal' unlock in the same way that they are looking for a 'universal' root.

Need help with bypassing bootloader unlock (EE) UK

Gone through the LG dev site, put in IMEI and Device ID, message pops up saying
the page at developer.lge.com says:
Unfortunately, your device (EE,UK) does not support unlocking the bootloader.
Is there a way around this, I would like to root my phone...and this whole "hold" over my android device isn't good at all.
EDIT, Sorry, i've got the LG G4 which is the phone in question, not the LG G3 as stated in my Sig.

As far as getting a G4 on EE, go via CarphoneWarehouse as you get a Euro unlocked device and not an EE branded device.

Dam that's a *****. I'm wondering if you could flash the KDZ of the EURO unlocked device and convert it from an EE device to an unlocked one. I know this used to be possible with Samsung device, this is my first LG (apart from a Nexus) so not fully up to speed on these things yet. May be worth investigating though.

If your worried about not picking the right version, then I would avoid proceeding with that method. As if it isn't one of the version in the OP, you need to change the commands too. Post a screenshot of your Software Info screen and I'll point you in the right direction.
But you need to read through both those posts before proceeding to understand what your doing.

As far as I can tell, you only have a carrier specific version of software and no actual hardware differences from H815 itself, which makes sense EE just using their own software (like the twats they are). This being the case you should be able to proceed with flashing the H815-10c image and gain root, this may also mean you can unlock the bootloader.
If the worst happens and you can't boot, you can just use a kdz image to revert to stock following the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848
You can gain a stock KDZ with this url, replace 'YOURIMEIHERE' with your imei number:

Hey all!
I'm new to Samsung completely, I have experience rooting, as I've had multiple Nexus devices, and other rootable phones. Just never had a Samsung. I recently took the Oreo OTA update, and was wondering about the best rooting method? Ive read that you lose secret folder. Is there a way to keep that?
Basically I just want to debloat more and theme without having to use Andromeda, as that is annoying.

Rooting for Verizon is not happening as of now as they Lock the Boot-Loader and just Phones aren't as easy to Root now
Yes it will work fine on oreo, as long as the 2nd to last number of the version you are on isn't a 3. Example:
Good: G950USQU2CRB7
Not Good: G950USQU3CRC6
^-- That right there is a no no for now
But afaik there is so rom in existence for 950u with a 3 there. Just something to watch for in the future.
You don't need to flash back to nougat stock first either. Your should be able to go straight to pcr. If you have trouble with the first step you can try flashing part 2 first, followed by 1 then 2 again, but i fine expect you will have any issues.

Not exactly, this is a root/rom combo. So it will downgrade you back to Nougat version 2 bootloader firmware, root your device, and flash a ROM all at the same time. So there is no way to flash a different ROM since the rooting process and ROM flashing is built into one step.

But this will take you back to Nougat QL1. There isn't a root for our phones in Oreo yet. Darn Verizon.

True, but if anyone is still lucky enough to be on version 2 bootloader on Oreo they still can downgrade to Nougat version 2 bootloader and use that Root/ROM combo to root their device since it works on ver. 2 bootloader but not 3. And yeah, screw Verizon!

Ahh. Makes sense. Basically flashing a modded factory image?
I want to but am wondering what happens to the secure folder?

Yeah its flashing an engineered firmware, and it trips knox which is needed for secure folder I think. I looked on my S8+ and couldn't find secure folder anywhere, so I'm guessing the ROM removes it.

Man, I miss the days of flashing roms. Back on my note 3, i used to flash a new rom weekly and had a ball customizing things and seeing what new roms were comming out.

Whatever happened to those days. S**t, the last few ROMs I was flashing on the N6 were all pretty much the same. I miss being pissed off that one rom had all the things I wanted but looked hideous. Then everything got CM based and themes were everywhere. Then it all just got the same. Then it all got locked down. Almost like Android and Google were playing the devs getting them to make the mods, then them steal them, and incorporate them, then lock it down.

yeah, by the time the N6 was out things were pretty bad. But back in the N3 days - they were good.

If you have nougat or a specific type of Oreo root is still possible with PartCyborgRom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...root-partcyborgrom-aqk3-samfail-odin-t3717702)

I'm sorry for this basic question, but does the phone being carrier unlocked make any difference? I know that has nothing to do with the bootloader; I'm simply asking if the phone not being Verizon-specific has any effect on rootability ... I was just about to purchase an unlocked S8+ when I saw this thread and almost spewed Mountain Dew all over my monitor. I had no idea Verizon had squelched root, although no surprise there, right?

if its unlocked and international version, and you use it on verizon, you can still root without any problems from verizon. only verizon variant there is that crappy problem

Yeah there is root for all carrieres (verizon, tmobil, sprint, att) but its limited and the bootloader is still locked. I would still get a the international version, better root, more Roms, etc...
Unlocked vs International?

When you say international version, is that simply the carrier unlocked version? And do you know if there is a certain model number or letter designation after the model number I should be looking for? I'm shopping on Swappa and eBay and need to be really careful. Thank you for the help, by the way.
