HTC Desire A8181 locked to T-Mobile unlock required. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wonder if anyone can help me with my unlocking issues?
I have an HTC Desire A8181 that is locked to T-Mobile and I now need to use it with 3UK. Every time I insert my 3UK sim, I get a prompt to enter an unlock code, but don’t know what to enter here.
I have tried using an unlock tool which is mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but it unfortunately fails to work for me.
I tried using ‘HTC DESIRE SIM-UNLOCK UTILITY v0.9.5’ but every time, it returns Error 13a: AdbReadEndpointSync returned error 31. Waiting for hboot!……………….
How do I get to unlock my Desire A8181 Bravo? Is there a keygen or something that can provide a code, or am I out of luck? I hope someone out here who is more knowledgeable could help out with this one.
Thanks for reading. Regards, Tony (Brookbond) See photos.

Try downgrading the HBOOT version to one that Revolutionary supports so you can do an S-OFF and change the CID to SuperCID (11111111).
Since everything has been described in various threads and posts, I won't duplicate it.

ze7zez, thanks for the reply, I think I may be out of my depth a little with this phone. I did have HBOOT v0.93.0001 on the phone and I did try several times to use HTC Desire Sim-Unlock Utility v0.9.5 by sieempi, without success.
It found the phone, confirmed the serial number of the phone, rebooted the phone into hboot, then displayed ‘Error 13a: AdbReadEndpointSync returned error 31, Waiting for hboot……………………………
I have little knowledge on the subject really, and I know that little knowledge can be dangerous. I don’t really know where to go with this now, as I had already tried the above sim-unlock utility several times when the phone had HBOOT v0.93.0001 and that failed to work for me.
I was hoping for a keygen to produce an unlock code, but not sure if such a fix exists? Is there anywhere I could find a code to enter into the phone to unlock it?
I am prepared to backtrack and downgrade the hboot version as a last resort. Any suggestions please?
Thanks, brookbond (Tony)

[Q] O2 HTC Desire Can't Apply RUU Please Help!

Hello,
I'm posting here in desperation, I really hope someone could help me.
I've recently bought a HTC Desire from O2. It was running Android 2.2 but I flashed cyanogenmod to it along with the latest radio.
Cyanogenmod worked fine but the radio stopped my 3G internet from working. In the end I decided to simply revert back to original setup using a RUU.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the first RUU I tried ALMOST worked but then failed claiming a file was missing and that I needed to try a complete RUU.
From that point onwards I have been unable to find an RUU that will work - I constantly receive error code 140, bootloader version error.
Can anyone please tell me how to circumvent this error OR provide me with an O2 RUU that will work?
Here's the spec from my startup screen:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
MICROP - 051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
Please note that the only option I have available to me from the boot-menu is RUU - Any option to enter recovery mode is not visible.
Please please help me, thank you so much in advance.
I wish I could give helpful advice...
I'm gonna try though.
Download one of the latest RUU's from here.
Perhaps your RUU was a bit old?
I've only ever done RUU once, when sending my phone back for repair. I encountered another issue.
To the OP, which RUU are u trying to use?

Make sure you've got a goldcard then do the downgrade. After that you should be able to do any RUU you like.
Lol just try a different radio. Have you manually set your APN?

Hi dehaani. In order to run the downgrade utility I surely need to be able to access my device (to enable usb debugging ) I currently can't get further than a grey HTC logo with exclamation marks in the corners? Is there a way to downgrade without the need to boot in to a ROM?
I've tried running almost all RUU I can find online, most of them result in Error 140: Bootloader version error.
I can't flash another radio because the only option I have available to me in bootloader is "RUU", no option to restore etc. How do I manually set my APN?! Would this involve access to the phone too?
Thank you all so much for your responses so far, please keep helping.
try again hope good luck
This might have been pot luck on my part getting through to someone who knew their stuff, but I had a problem when flashing Oxygen RC7 to my desire.
I had to ring o2 about another contract I have, used by a family member, and they asked if there was anything else they could help with so I jokingly replied "not unless you know about flashing replacement ROMs..." would you Adam & Eve it, the clever little badger only went and talked me through the issue I had come across on my Desire.
Might be worth giving them a bell if you cant find a solution online, I've always found them very helpful.

Unlock an HTC Desire that's already been upgraded to Cyanogen?

I got my GSM, SLED HTC Desire from Orange UK under contract.
A friend upgraded it to HBOOT 1.03.0003, radio 5.17.05.23 and Cyanogen 7.1 thinking that this would also SIM unlock the phone. However, when I put a foreign SIM in it, it prompts for a network unlock code.
I've tried following the exact steps on the GiffGaff page about unlocking a Desire phone (the forum won't allow me to link, sorry), using both 0.9.5 and 0.9.4. 0.9.4 reports success but I am still prompted for an unlock code. 0.9.5 complains that it only works on the Desire and some Sensation phones. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether it is S-ON or S-OFF.
I have even paid Orange for an unlock code. However, when I try to use this code I am prompted for it only once, not twice as the instructions say I will be. It reports success, but then says "Emergency Calls Only".
What is left for me to try? Is there any area where I need to give any more detail? Thanks!

I unlocked mine (from Telenor) with this having no problems at all:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726
But if you paid them, go to their customer service and ask for help. Of course you will have to install some factory rom if you have warranty.

[Q] Problem getting identifier token

Hi all,
Hopefully this is not a questian thats already been asked, I couldnt find it.
I want to root and s-off my Desire Z to use it with another ROM, when I want to do the first step unlocking the bootloader via htcdev I'm stuck somewhere in the beginning. When I try to get the identifier token in the command prompt I get an error.
First about the phone:
Android version 2.3.3
HTC sense version 2.1
softwareversion: 2.42.405.4
S-on
Hboot 0.85.0013
What I first did was using the Quick root application from this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870652 to root the device with the universal exploit.
Later I wanted to unlock the bootloader so i followed the steps at the htcdev site. Everything works except when i type the command: 'fastboot oem get_identifier_token' in de command prompt I get a command error. After searching I found out that this probably has something to do with my hboot version. So I tried to update it with the RUU provided by htcdev, but the RUU says I have to update my device. My device says there is no update. (there is also a * indicating that the hboot should be updated when I select the HTC desire Z as the phone I want the bootloader to be unlocked, I select the HTC desire Z A7272)
When I try to unroot my device again with the quick root application it says my phone is allready unrooted.
Whats do I do wrong?
Many thanks for all the help I get!
The “Quick root application” is only for S-OFF devices. You are S-ON, you did not root your phone. That’s why the application says your phone is already unrooted.
I’m not sure about unlocking the bootloader per htcdev site. I think our device is not supported, only newer devices are. Our firmware doesn’t know the command, that’s why you get the error message. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
You have to S-OFF your phone first. There are some good guides on this site, just search.

Thanks! This means I have to follow another route.
Maybe someone else has an idea, otherwise I'll look for a different method.
Internet usually uses this order:
the basic steps will be:
1)unlock with htcdev
2)flash recovery
3)flash superuser root files.
4)rewrite the misc image with adb and downgrade to froyo
5)re-unlock htcdev hboot
6)re-flash recovery
7)re-flash superuser root files and flash unrevoked's "forever" s-off patch
But you think this is impossible for me?
our phones are supported but I don't recommend the htc offical method as it is sure to give you many headaches down the road. rooting your phone and gaining true soff is realitively easy, just google search "cyanogen vision root wiki" "xda wiki g2 root" "strawmetal root pdf"
read these guides, and when you feel comfortable go for it, every question you can think of has been answered on xda so search around a bit. if you need extra help log onto freenode #g2root

I do think the desire z is supported. It is listed: http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
however, it is starred: * Indicates HBOOT update required.
update:
then use the new RUU next to it to enable the unlocking capability.
HTC EU 2.42.405.2 PC1011000 Download
Thanks for correcting me.
I was wrong, it IS possible to unlock our phone using htcdev.
However it is not recommended. See for example this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750978
Thanks!
I tried to use this (in my screen there is no RUU next to the phone but this RUU is listed in the first screen you get before step 1 unloucking bootloader), as indicated in my first post, bur this RUU gives an error:
It first wants to get my ROM to 2.42.405.2 before it can update hboot. My ROM version is 2.42.405.4.
So when I use the RUU the program says I dont have the newest ROM so I should try to get that by updating my phone via settings/software update. However my phone indicates that there is no update available for my phone.
Weird stuff..

I had the same issue on another device (Wildfire S). It is because the tool was made in the time when 2.42.405.2 was the latest ROM. I think the only solution is to wait till HTC updates their tool or to downgrade your phone. However, if you manage to downgrade your phone, you are halfway to get a S-OFF without htcdev
Thanks for all the help I got!
I'll post here what I've done to root my phone in case someone has the same problem.
First I downgraded my phone, the only guide that could help me with that is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
After that I rooted my phone I installed the cyanogen mod 7.2 and for that I used this guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting
If you follow this guides to the letter you should be oke. I'm really happy I did it!

[Q] Desire HD in bootloop obscure problem

Hello all!
I may be new to XDA, but i lurk a lot... And over the years this is the first time i've ever needed to post.
Right.. So today i bought an "HTC Desire HD" or 'Ace'
It was on Froyo (2.1?) S-ON and hboot 0.85 or something
I tried using AAHK - Which is fine, I've used it before successfully on my other DHD.
This time it was upgrading/downgrading a radio, error'd and quit.
It then restarted and bootloooped.
I tried Factory Restore did nothing
I then tried using many and various RUU's but i always get Error 131 or Error 190
I tried making a GoldCard to boot the phone still nothing
I also tried the PD98IMG.zip in the SD card (Tried with GoldCard too) Still Error 131
GoldCard does work as have tested it on another phone.
Currently sat staring at HBOOT wondering what the hell i can do to get it too switch back on!
The phone is locked to Orange UK with S-ON
The file that i believe to fix my phone is called "RUU-Ace-Orange-UK.18" something, but it just doesn't exist. I've searched all of google and only found dead links.
Just a little motivation, I'll donate to whom ever provides the fix for my phone my old Xperia Mini e10i! Thanks
AAHK is retired, and the server hosting the files it needs has been pulled. Without S-Off you can't flash radios. Are you just trying to root? If so, you can unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery, and flash a rooted ROM from there. You can't flash radios, but you can flash custom ROMs. The link in my signature has more detailed guides.
EDIT: but you will first need to update your hboot.

Please link me to hboot update, I've looked around but all links give me "downloadmanagerS.exe" :/
EDIT: I found the file for RUU Ace Orange UK (My phone is on Orange), but it's not finding my phone. And when i took the ROM out of it, and put onto simcard it's giving me an Incorrect Model ID
I believe that because your hboot is too old, you need to create a gold card to flash a RUU that supports hboot unlock. How to do that is beyond the scope of my knowledge, and due to the fact that the guy who used to handle all this stuff (glevitan) is no longer active here, you may just need to hope someone else shows up. You could try to look through his posts for that info.

So my phone is dead then D;
Basically you need to create a Goldcard and upgrade your bootloader.
I also have a Orange DHD and i am S-Off'd using another methord but the difference is that i have sense 3.0.
But due to your phones CID being ORANG001 you'll need the goldcard as there is no orange RUU firmware only HTC generic firmware.
Shot a PM if you still need help.

Need some help unlocking/branding this old phone!

I know this is an old phone but my mother was complain about it so I told her I'd see what I could do, the usual method of unlocking the phone via htcdev does not work, just gives me code is to long error, so I turned to the forums looking for way to unlock and root the phone, all I want to do is install CM 10.1 but since I can't even get it unlocked, and it will not downgrade with RUU is come to ask if anyone here is still alive is there a still working method with active links to I can get the job done?

Well first I tried unlocking it via HTC dev but it would not take the code, so I came to the forums and seen that first I have to debrand it, so I'm stuck at debranding since the phone will not allow the firmware to be downgraded, which i learnt then that id have to force downgrade h-boot so I can downgrade the firmware, thats where im at, stuck at debranding -.-

You don't require to debrand to unlock IMHO...............go word by word on the instructions on HTCdev.com, Just proceed to the steps since you have an unlockable bootloader
