Complicated question about my Desire Bravo - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a Desire with a custom ROM on it, the system running from an SD card. The screen died in an instant with no apparent cause (the phone is working, because i got called and I could talk with the black screen). I tried the electronics part with an other screen (same SLCD, I didn't mess it up), but didn't work for some reason.
I have a spare Desire, so I inserted the SD card in it and made a nandroid backup of the ROM and reinstalled it (the phone worked with another ROM previously, so it couldn't boot with the card inserted). The system booted fien, I made the first steps to set it up, everything went well.
As I really would like to have my good old system back, I tried to replace gradually the parts of the system onto the new one, starting with the Data partition, but I only got bootloop. What did I mess up? Is there any way to get my good old system back with all its settings and so?

Have you tried booting the Bravo in recovery mode?
1. Vol(-) + Power
2. Wait 10 sec
3. Vol(-)
4. Power
Then from PC you have access to adb and can experiment with downloading partitions to PC.

Hi, yes, I tried to enter recovery mode but the phone is still dead, maybe the screen controller died.
No matter, cause i managed to make a full save tapping on the black screen (4Ext touch was a big help now) using the other Desire as a guide (I placed the two phones side by side).
I took the SD card out and inserted in the other phone and... after restoring the image, it gave me errors, I really don't know why. So I took a 5 years old recovery image of the same system and after making sure it worked (thank God it did), I did overwrite the System and the Data partitions (with the ones taken from the dead phone) and finally I have my nice system back, no data is lost. Now I'm happy!

[Q] Black screen with white bars after root? Help would be appreciated

Hey guys here is what i did step by step. This is my first root and i researched this a good bit but i obviously didnt read enough ; ;
Phone info: droid i, slcd, froyo stock 2.2 with november update. i bought the phone a couple of weeks ago.
I followed rooting instructions found here
(couldnt post the url cause im a new user) its found on jonsuh dot com
1) Already preinstalled clockwork mod app
2) Installed Hboot driver.
3) ran new revoked3
4) root was successful and my phone booted up.
heres where its gets tricky.
5) ran clockwork mod.
6) selected back up (figured this would be a safe idea before i started adding roms)
7) it prompted me to install clockwork mod recovery file. i did so then clicked on backup again. my phone turned off rebooted to the HTC incredible screen then went to this black screen with white bars on each side of the phone.
Ideas on what might be the problem would be greatly appreciated.
So i just a battery pull and started my phone back up and it booted up.... epic fail/win
win: phone phone started
fail: i wrote this whole damn post out.
might be helpful for those who ran into the same problem rooting thier phone though.
i read somewhere i should use an older clockwork recovery file. is that correct? and if so, can some tell me one that will work with an SLCD phone?
You might check this out.
ok so i made another boo-boo. i tried to install the virtuous rom and i clicked on clear data and wipe cache and when the phone restarted it stopped at the htc screen which had a black bar across it.
i tried rebooting it a couple different ways but now bastboot is booting up to the htc incredible screen and just staying there... i hope i didnt brick my phone...
please help!
you have an slcd droid incredible and need the modded clockwork recovery from adreynlyne thats all http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788306
thats should take care of the recovery issues
do you know how to move the file to the root of my sd card? i dont have a micro sd card reader...
ok so i went out and bought a micro sd card reader. put the new renamed .zp file onto my sd card. went into hboot and it still says the pb31img.zip file is missing. any ideas?
i extracted the renamed zip file to my sd card. was that the right thing to do? or do i just put the unextracted file in there?
You are thinking too hard!
Plug your phone into your PC. Set it to be a disk drive and copy the file to the SD card. (It will have lots of directories and stuff.)
I am not 100% sure, but I think the file name might need to be in caps. It must be named exactly.
Turn your phone off.
Hold down the down volume button and turn it on.
Magic should happen.
got it working thanks to setexascustoms. had to install it then reinstall virtuous rom. lost all my contacts but im back up and running!

[Q]Phone randomly shuts down using Virtuous Unity 2.35

For a few weeks i have been getting these total random shut downs of my DHD running the latest Virtuous Unity 2.35.
I saw that happening live 2 times on specific occasions/functionality calls:
1)After switching the DHD on and inserting the PIN to unlock the sim card...few secs and BAM....everything goes down. This happens from time to time.
2)Few secs after running the camera app...some loading goes on and BAM...here we go again...cell goes off
What the hell is happening, should i worry about the phone hardware or is it some wipe/format i didn't do properly prior to flashing the rom.
The problem is i noticed it also with other custom roms...but with those it never happened while i was using it, instead it happened getting the phone out of my small shoulder bag.
I am really afraid my cell has something wrong with the hardware...i was angry as hell and i tried to do some "heavy shakin" to see if the battery was not retained to its place as it should have but nothing happened...cell always on...
What should i do?
PS: i must say i tried almost 15 roms last 2 weeks but always used the related full wipe files/used a decent format/wipe procedure.
plz help me
---------------------------------------
Some tech stuff maybe you need to know
Device: Desire HD
Rom: (current) Virtuous Unity 2.35 (those days i flashed more than 10 roms, MIUI included)
Status: S-OFF HBOOT-0.85.2007 (CID-11111111)
Radio: 26.09.04.11_M2
RIL: 2.2.0131HM
Kernel: Stock that comes with VU
So that you know that's what i always did prior to flashing any ROM (currently using 4EXTRecovery 2.1.3 RC2) :
1)format system
2)format cache
3)format data
4)wipe data/factory reset
5)FLASH ROM
--------------------------------------
EDIT1: I noticed, just to keep you posted, that on the recovery menu the SD appear to be "not well partitioned", i don't know if it may be the cause.
Do you have app2ext working?
I'm guessing here. Try backing up your SDcard on a pc (preferably via cardreader) and giving it a thorough format with one partition only. You may need to delete the partitions first. I can't tell you how unless I know your operating system. If you continue having the shutdown issue afterwards you would be able to cross out SDcard problems at least.
Hi ROBINGAZI, thanks for your fast reply.
ehm, what is exactly app2ext?
I don't have a card reader right now, does it really change if I mount the SD via the phone? Anyways, i got a machine running WIN 7 x64.
hope this step will clear out the problem
Plug your phone to the computer as disk drive.
copy everything you have on the sdcard to a directory in your computer.
then click start>control panel>administrative tools> computer management.
a window will appear and you should see "storage"
in storage you will find "disk management".
you should be able to see your phone's SDcard there. right click and then delete the partition into unallocated space. Then right click and create a partition (fat32). format the partition.
if needed remount the sdcard to your computer (not the phone)
copy only one zip file (the rom you want to flash) to the SDcard (preferably something reliable like stock or something very close to stock).
unplug the phone and reboot into recovery. Do a full wipe...format everything apart from the sdcard if you think it is proper.
flash the rom and see what happens.
this way you can at least rule out the SDcard for causing your problems.
PS: Dont restore via nandroid...you could be putting the problem back into your phone.
BTW: Does your phone shut down properly or the screen goes blank like it would if you unplug a computer. Anyway make sure you dont just have a loose battery cover or battery before you try this out.
Thanks again.
Yeah my phone screen just goes blank like it would if you remove the battery from it while on.
I restored the SD card and it works properly. installed Revolution HD 5.2.6
As i stated earlier i also tried to shake the phone to see if the battery had some kind of faulty retention system but the phone stays on.
So i really can't understand what is the problem.
PS: I was curious, is there an application that tells you the entire life of a battery? meaning since when it started to operate?
NEW UPDATE ABOUT THE MATTER:
It's DEFINITELY the battery...i don't know why, i don't know with what criteria but it's the battery.
Yesterday i switched it with my brother's phone, obviously another DHD. Since then i have had absolutely no problem of any sort. He, instead, is experiencing random shut downs...
i think that the "problem is sloved" so to speak
the question about the battery app remains...or maybe there is a way to see the battery entire life cycle with a system file.

[Q] Can't boot into recovery...

Hoping someone can help me out - I have a rooted Incredible, and went to use ROM manager to flash back to a backup made 2 months ago. Also flashed an older version of CWM recovery (because for whatever reason the newer releases never worked). The phone went to boot into recovery and do it's thing, but then the version of CWM I flashed didn't allow the phone into recovery, and now I'm stuck at the boot screen and a battery pull didn't work. I can't even power down/reboot the device (unless it's plugged in), it just goes black for a second, then HTC Incredible screen shows for 2 sec, then back to boot screen. Any ideas? I tried putting an older version of CWM onto the root of the SD, but it's not recognizing it as an available "update" on the Bootloader screen.
Thanks for any help!
You would need a PB31IMG version of CWM. You can get it here http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=85. Put it on the root of your SD card the hold the volume down+power button, and wait for it to load it, except the update and that should do the trick.
Would I need to erase the ROM manager file from the SD card so that it picks this one up? It's not picking up the .zip and prompting me to install...
I don't think you would need to do that. Make sure that the file is named correctly PB31IMG. Ive had the issue before where I named it PB31IMG.zip and I did not have to put the.zip after it otherwise it won't be recognized. Maybe that's the issue you are having...
You sir are a genius! That worked perfectly. Thanks!
Glad to help! I think the reason your wife's SD card doesn't work either, is because it is not in FAT32 format.

[Q] Red Exclamation when Factory Restore nonrooted

I've tried to search around the fourms but every seems to have rooted their phone. I never have, but it's been acting laggy and shutting itself off from time to time, I've had my Incredible for about a year and a half and just wanted to wipe it in hopes that it wouldnt shut off randomly and run faster but when i go into settings and into SD & Phone storage and do Factory data reset I end up getting stuck on a screen with a phone and a red triangle with an exclamation in the middle.
When that happens I can hold down the power button and the up volume button and try and restore from there but it always just loads my phone back up how it was, nothing gets wiped and it also puts it into auto roaming so I have to call and reprogram my phone with verizon.
Any ideas?

It sounds like either you have a custom recovery installed (rooted), or your stock recovery may be corrupt. First i would try to do a factory reset from hboot. To do that power off the phone pull the battery and reimsert. Then hold vol down and power till a white screen pops up. Then use the vol keys to navigate to factory reset and the power button to select. If that dosent work i would do an ruu. To do that download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.06.605.3/PB31IMG.zip and place it on your sdcard in no folders, do not rename. Pull battery, replace, vol down and pwr to enter hboot. Hboot will automaticly find the file and prompt you to press vol up to update. Do so and then when propmted again press vol up to reboot. Once rebooted your phone should be like new.
Tried it in hboot and it seems to of only wiped half my stuff. Apps and everything are still there but it's almost as if they reset and are taking me through tutorials again and all my setting are back to default.
I'm downloading the ZIP file ya gave me now, i'll let ya know if that works. Thanks for your help!
Okay, took my SD card out of my phone to make sure i placed that file on it and not somewhere else, i did NOT unzip the file onto the SD card either, just simply copied and pasted the ZIP file onto the SD card, it's not in a folder either. Put the Sd card back in, turned phone off and entered hboot, hboot isn't prompting me to update though... any ideas? :\

Try backing up the sdcard to your pc. Then with the pc format the card fat32, and then put the files back on. If that still dosent work, you could do an ruu.exe with your pc. Install htc sync http://dinc.does-it.net/HTC-Sync/3.0.5606/setup_3.0.5606.exe, then download and run this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Image...0_Incredible_C_hboot_1.02.0000_4.08.605.2.exe, with the phone connected to the pc. Follow the steps provided and it should reflash the phone for you.
Okay I tried to do your second suggestion first but when i ran the program it said that the phone was not connected to my computer, and to check to make sure the USB was plugged in. It was though, it was in charge only, should i have set it on something else? I was literally watching it charge.
Then i reformatted my SD card, it did find the file and it tried to update with the file in hboot but it said it had failed because the version on my phone was older.
What a pain huh?

Having htc sync installed should give you the correct drivers. I think its suppose to be charge only mode, try it on sync mabey, worst it can do is say it cant find the phone again.
It probably said the version you were trying to install is older than the one already installed. What android version are you on again?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Moving to Q&A
says im using version 2.3.4
just tried the ruu again and put my phone in sync instead of charge only and htc sync and the ruu still say my phone isnt connected but my phone tells me it is.
The main reason I'm trying to factory restore is because none of my apps hold. I try and download new ones and they end up force closing and disappearing. Apps that I update do the same thing. My phone will keeps apps i've had if they update and disappear but they go right back to needing to be updated again. New apps just go away and if i try and redownload them they just disappear again.

Bricked Oppo Find 7

Hello,
I have an Oppo Find 7 for a while and I always thought that the Color OS is not very good, and specially, it comes with a very limiting partition division.
So, when I could no longer decide on which Apps to keep and which to uninstall, since I had no longer space left on my phone due to the stupid small partition for applications, I decided to format my phone, reconfigure the partitions and install a new ROM (CM 13).
I had done it often on my lapton, how difficult could it be to do it on the phone?
It all seemed to work fine, but when I started my "new" phone with CM I noticed that something was wrong. I tried to use the camera and it showed an error saying I did't have a storage device.
Well, I was sure I had left enough space for photos in the other (not OS) partition, and I had also the SD card.
I went to Settings->Storage and I saw that my phone was recognising the OS partition only (about half of all internal storage) and had a portable storage device called "sdcard0" (not the actual SD card) reading "Damaged" below.
I've tried to erase and format that partition, but it shows an error reading "command '41 volume partition disk: 179_0 public' failed with '400 41 Command failed'".
I've tried to rearrange the partitions again, to reinstall CM13, but nothing worked, so I just accepted that my phone could not take pictures. Everything that did't require to have a file system worked fine (well, I cannot see the naked ladies pictures my friends share on whatsapp). This was a few months ago, so I don't remember precisely what I did.
Recently I decided that I actually need a phone that takes pictures, so I went back to trying to fix it.
Unfortunately, I can't. At least without some custom help. I've read plenty of tutorials, forum pages, but there's always something that doesn't work in my case.
Here's what I can do with my phone:
- It boots
- It works
- Computer recognises it
- adb recognises
Here's what I can't do:
- Have any files (the file system is broken)
- Take photos
- Restart with bootloader - when I tried, the screen just shows a sitting penguin for a few seconds and then turns off. I do remember to be able to do so, but I can't now.
I've tried to load bootloader though the phone's interface, through the power+volume down button combination and through adb. They all had the same result. The stupid penguin and then darkness.
Can someone help me?
Hello, you're phone is not bricked. What is the exact name of you're ROM ? Do you have make LVM, or chinese storage partion?
