Hi I've been searching for days and have always been able to find answers but this one has got me.
My gf has a HTC Desire HD, pretty sure it's Vodafone since she works there. Tried to do a normal update a while ago and it never started since, just sits on the HTC logo. I can boot into fastboot hboot recovery and all that but I'm stuck as to what to do from here.
I have found a couple of WWE RUU's but the error out with a CID error, I've also found a Vodafone backup someone took from clockwork but this phone only has stock recovery and I don't know how to flash clockwork without being able to boot the phone.
Hoping someone might have an easy answer, please let me know if I need to provide more details.
Thanks.
If its rooted just place a rom on the sd and flash it with full wipe. You are not suppose to accept OTA updates if the phone is rooted if Im not mistaken. If not rooted then go to HTC websight and get the official RUU and install, instructions should be on websight.

Get me the CID and Iwill provide u with a ruu that works...VODAFONE from where? not all ruu's are available, but at least we can find one that makes your phone back to work...:good:
Unfortuanately it isn't rooted, I probably would've had more luck by now if it was.
I can't see the CID on the bootloader is there a command on fastboot or something to find this? I've been searching but can't find anything.
Sorry I thought of that afterwards, it's Vodafone Australia.
Thanks for the replies guys!
I just tried that European RUU thought I didn't have anything to loose but it came back with ERROR 132 Signature Error.
The Australian HTC site doesn't have a RUU to download that I can see.

yep, do the following: boot in hboot and choose fastboot. Then plug the phone (check that you see fastboot usb in red)
Open cmd as admin or a terminal as root and then, type fastboot getvar all. Get the INFOcidnum and paste it here. With that I will try to find a ruu that works. But stop trying flashing other things...you might mess the device.
Hi
Thanks again for the help. The cidnum: VODAP021
Hope this helps, I haven't checked out those other links yet though.

Ok, I will look for a RUU (to see if I can get one that works, and will send it over a PM)...
No post it here in case someone else has the same problem so he too can get the file.

Solution!!
Ok firstly sorry it's taken me ages to post this but I finally came up with a solution to this problem using a few different guides and instructions on these forums.
So the problem was I had a Vodafone AU branded HTC Desire HD that had no root and a locked bootloader that was stuck in a bootloop after a failed official update. The main problem is that there is NO stock recovery ROM ANYWHERE for a Vodafone AU HTC Desire HD, trust me I looked and I am not new to looking for stuff like this. glevitan provided me with a WW ROM that I managed to get working with a bit of work, there are also many WW ROM's around that you should also be able to use. I'll try to explain as best I can as to how I got it to work (going from memory) so if anyone else has a similar problem they may be able to use this information.
1. Firstly find a suitable WW ROM to flash, it needs to be a PD98IMG.zip image to copy to an SD card. There is a Vodafone AU dump on this forum but that will not work if you are completely stock standard. I think you can get this zip from the RUU or maybe ask glevitan if he wouldn't mind helping in providing this again. I didn't want to link to his file but there are others around.
2. Create a goldcard. If you turn your SD card into a goldcard it will allow any ROM to be flashed, normally it would only accept the Vodafone AU one but by doing this it will accept the WW one. To do this I used a second phone to create the card.
I used the Ultimate multi tool which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180639
You may have to do a bit of reading on getting it to work, from memory you have to put in a number to a website to generate a file, I think I ended up using a different website, there's a few options in getting this done, google is your friend for this
3. Once the goldcard is created copy the PD98IMG.zip to the root directory and put it back into the phone.
4. Turn on the phone and boot to hboot by holding vol up (I think) on power on. The phone should automatically check for a suitable PD98IMG.zip file and as long as the goldcard process worked and you have a suitable ROM on the root directory it should flash it fine.
This is basically what I did and it successfully booted after a lot of looking around. I hope this helps people in the future with similar problems. If you need to ask any questions about this process as I haven't provided every single detail please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you out.
Thanks again to glevitan for helping and providing a suitable ROM to flash.
Okay I'm really getting sick of this thing. I've totally no idea what I've done but after 2 hours of trying, I'm back to the same thing. Finally managed to get the proper USB drivers for my computer so the phone and the computer could talk to each other.
I've followed this guide on how to unroot the phone:
http://theunlockr.com/2014/07/15/how-to-unroot-the-htc-desire-816/
First, when I relock the bootloader, I still got ***Tampered*** and ***Security Warning*** although it says relocked. I couldnt boot into the OS. Can't do anything at all. Unlocking it again solves the problem.
Secondly, I wasn't able to get to S-Off mode. Anyone can shine some light on this? I'm really stuck here. I can't flash the stock RUU.zip as it says signature failed.
Would be glad that someone could assist me on this... I really need to get rid of the phone as soon as possible as I'm sick of this thing.
And, BTW, mine is the single SIM with LTE version.
Thank you.
Is yours the a5_chl or the a5_ul? The a5_chl is the one on VM.
did you flash the correct stock recovery to replace your custom recovery before you re-locked it?
also, there is no S-off for this model yet so don't waste time looking for it

I couldn't find the proper stock recovery.
But I thought S-Off needs to be off before everything else can be done?
No need for S-off to unlock/relock bootloader or flash custom/stock recovery/ROM. none of us here have S-off and yet we all use custom delights provided by XDA devs
this will probably help you with the stock recovery, tho I'm not sure if it works for single SIM or not:

This may seem like an amateur question, but how do you tell if your phone is a5_chl or a5_ul?

you restart your phone to bootloader.
1. Disable fastboot. Settings>Battery>uncheck fastboot.
2. Power off
3. Press and hold Volume Down and power

Hey guys,
I dropped my HTC One M8 today, and now it has a crack in the screen.
Well, I wanted to go back to the store to get it replaced under warranty, but I needed to unroot & go back to stock first.
So at home I tried to go back to stock and stuff, but it just didn't work. That is where **** hit the fan.
Right now, I can't boot into Android, can't boot intro recovery. Everytime I start my phone it boots into FASTBOOT USB, and I have the following screen: *see attachment*
I really don't know what to do, I've been searching for serveral hours and my guess is I hard-bricked it...
Please, please tell me there is a way to make it boot into android again...?

Do you still have TWRP installed? Boot into recovery from your bootloader, and restore a backup. (You should have made one before you tried returning to stock)

Yea being s-on I don't think you can what is your cid and what carrier do you have maybe someone can modify one of the ruus to work with your cid cause it seems the ruu is checking your cid and it doesn't match for the ruu so it isn't working. Have you tried reflashing twrp and seeing if you can enter recovery again then maybe restore one of the backups from the backups thread. I don't know how much help I can actually be cause I'm just a flasher hopefully someone with more experience and knowledge can jump in and help you I'm just suggesting what I would do in your situation. And no. It isn't in any RUU threads on XDA.

I currently soft bricked my phone after trying to restore my phone back to complete stock ROM to the point the OS wont boot up, instead the red triangle comes up, I'm looking for the RRU for Vodafone as because I'm currently S-On which means I can't upgrade or downgrade my firmware. I have the stock recovery image but can't find the RRU after much looking around the forums and googling I unfortunately found dead links. I need a little help
I'm sorry I'm a little new to rooting, but i will answer questions however I can

Thanks for the fast reply, I found the same RRU updating utility in a forums here too, but I get the error 115 when trying to update which is odd even after relocking the bootloader. This is why I need one for the version I'm running as I think the reason me being stuck now on S-On is causing issues.
Still really needing that RRU, I have an expensive paperweight here and no phone so some help would really be appreciated

Only find this 1.40.161.8 RUU
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347798272
I also need 2.10.161.7 or newer.
I relocked my bootloater + updating the firmwarepart to 2.10.161.7.
So I can not use it anymore.
Sunshine isn't an option, because no system is up and running. XTC2Clip is too expensive to get the HTC in S-OFF Mode. There isn't an other method at this time, right?
I can only send it to the RUU Service, but I am from Germany.
Maybe here is someone near Düsseldorf who can S-OFF my device with his XTC2Clip?
Thanks

Unless your phone is S-OFF you can't use that RUU. It's a "combined" one which means it's custom made and not signed by HTC. S-ON phones only accept files which are signed by HTC. Btw.: That's the reason why you need S-OFF for Sneakyghost's firmware packs, too.

Oh dear i do a apologize for the wrong info
Hi all
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I'm still a rookie to this stuff but I'm getting my head around it now.
I picked up a HTC 10 and I didn't like it very much coming from a HTC One M8 Google Play Edition, I just miss stock android so much. I tried out some other ROMs to see if that would help but it doesn't and I don't want to wait months for an AOSP ROM (if one will ever come) so I am going to get rid of the phone and buy a Nexus device.
It would be ideal if I can return to locked bootloader and go back to stock recovery from TWRP which it currently has. I see HTC has the RUU on their site but its branded USA, is it safe to use on a European phone? Or is there another way I can return to stock recovery and locked bootloader? It's not essential, I'm sure I'll be able to pass it onto a techy friend either way but would be nice to have it as close to how I got it as possible if anyone is able to offer some advice.
Thanks in advance

You can't use the US Unlocked RUU on the European phone, but there is an RUU for the WWE model (401) here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
You will never get back to 100% stock unless you spent $25 to S-Off your phone with sunshine, because when you lock your bootloader back, your device will show as RElocked in download and bootloader mode instead of just locked. So...IMO, unless you want to spend the $25 so you can return it, I would just leave it as unlocked and save the next person the hassle of unlocking it.
As for stock recovery, many are available in the thread I linked to above as well.
