Best solution!!!

A few times I post in this forum for asking for help.
Everyones here seem busy to cook something that might never even been used till end of days!
So sorry if I have to use that title for getting attention from admin, advanced user and others masters.
I really need help.
All here I ask for is just "DRIVER FOR HP IPAQ 500 SERIES" when enter bootloader mode. I have Acivesync installed but cannot detect it. On my screen just popup a window ask for "USB DEVICE" driver....
A driver that I have search all over internet, but could not just find it.
Please I badly need your help sir.
Thanks for understanding my difficulty on searching.
BEST REGARDS,
HPDEBUG.
think it's a generic driver which one can get by putting in the windows install cd or let it use autoupdate
no NO.
It doesn't work.
I cannot find the driver in XP CD or any place else.
("I have Active sync installed")
Is there any special driver for this device when in bootloader mode?
Sorry I am new bie on this...
Plase help from any expert on this.
Best regards,
HPDebug

How to use SDK to root the phone?

Hi all,
I have just switched from the HD2 to the MT3G Slide and want to root the phone.
I knew how to do all the stuff on the HD2 from reading but cannot find any information here. The sticky placed on the top isn't much help because I know you need to use the Android SDK tool but I do not know how to set that up. & when I try to use the command line I cannot type in it. Please can someone give me some help on how to do this so I can get started on rooting my phone.
Thanks for reading!
you claim you read the sticky but yet if you had you would have seen the link on the first page i believe that tells you to get sdk from [link] and then on that page there is a link that says setting up SDK on your [OS] computer. then just follow the steps in there(which is really more like download file and double click setup) after that you can open up a terminal/console/cmd and type in cd \path to sdk\tools
if you are on mac or linux(unlikely since you can't read or search) you would type in
cd /path/to/sdk/tools notice how the slash between directories(folders) is the other way around
then follow the directions in the root thread(incredibly difficult i know but you should still try to do this part on your own)

Okay I have downloaded all of the Android SDK already. I have read it but my issue is when I try to type in the command it will not let me type. I also read that Anroid SDK is for xp & vista only and that windows 7 was not listed, so it this my issue? The command line you speak of is the one with the SDK tools and not the acutal windows CMD line?
I have followed everything to the line but still cannot seem to get this to work.
and to be clear I did read and there is nothing on there that states you need to have SDK to root the MT3GS. It says to download the slide_root
what operating system are you doing this on? that would be more helpful so i could tell you how to set this up correctly

windows 7. I have android SDK and I have downloaded the 2.1 Android pack.
if you are using windows 7 x64(very likely) then you cannot use that computer and you should try using ubuntu(same as using mac for 99% of the steps and there is a thread in q and a talking about this right now) or setting up a virtual machine and installing xp and using that to hack your phone. virtual machines are easy to setup and use if you can use virtualbox

download virtual box right now. will that come with xp installed on it or would I need to download that onto it?
thanks for all of your help.
you will need to get an xp install cd or iso to install xp on it. if you have any friends with xp install disks or you can find one online and use it as a trial(no key=no activation=30 day trial) then you can use it for a day and root with that.
disclaimer: i suggest totally legal versions of windows xp, any install disk you download or get illegally is your fault when the FBI/Bill Gates comes to the door

Instead of suggesting that he commits a felony why don't you tell him to use Ubuntu in the virtual machine? It'll take a little longer but it's less likely he'll be fined.
i didn't say commit a felony, and if you are going to use ubuntu then you don't need a virtual box(dumbass) you can use a live cd. i have been told by microsoft on MANY occasions that if you have a friend with XP install disks then you may use those, as well as the fact that installing it for one day in a virtual box is not illegal if you are not using a cracked key/re-used key, you can choose not to use a key and it is a temporary install for yourself to use either until you get a key, or the 30 days is up. much like you can buy vista/7 and install a different version if you like, but you will have to uninstall it and reinstall using the version i bought a key for once the trial has expired. read up and do your homework before you jump down someone's throat, it makes you look like an ass when i have to come back in here and teach you what a computer is
I set up and rooted two phones with windows 7.. I installed the sdk and pdanet drivers and thats it..
using 64-bit? last i knew there was no 64-bit adb driver so i didn't even try with my win7 x64 machine, i used my vista x32 box to root my phone.

thanks. didn't see it. saw the last post was posted by eugene and scrolled down as fast as i could lol.
So the Command line is the CMD program through windows? I don't understand why someone wouldn't set me straight on that since I was saying the command line in SDK wasn't letting me type anything
Installing Drivers
Plug in your phone through USB and DO NOT MOUNT IT!!!!!
Your computer should see a new device and try to install Android 1.0 driver (If it doesnt, scroll down to the "Im not getting a notification of Android ADB when i plug in my USB" section)
Let it load
Once it cant find them select "Install drivers from my pc"
The drivers you need are in the Android SDK 1.5r2 folder (C:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver)
Depending on your OS pick x86 or amd64
You ADB Android Device should now be installed! Good Job
When I do this part it doesn't find the ABD driver but it does not have anywhere to install drivers from my pc at all on my windows 7
edit: found where to go to add the usb drivers but when I select the folder all I get is "windows cannot find driver software on your pc"
edit 2: Found out what driver I needed, thanks for the guide source going to try to root this thing finally

Can we natively run Ubuntu on the Desire?

Hello,
I'm a recent Android user and I'm fascinated by this phone, much over iPhone/iOS.
I'm an old Linux dog and I was wondering about the Desire running Linux.
I've seen recently somebody started Ubuntu on the HD2 by modifying the bootloader (haret), we have the Linux kernel booting natively on the Desire, so instead of an Android image can't we just boot a linux image?
The vnc running solution is not quite what I have in mind. I want to run Ubuntu natively on the hardware so I have a few questions:
-does the desire kernel support KMS? or should I try to compile an xorg driver for the snapdragon video chipset?
-do the other drivers from the kernel can be accessed as simply as in linux? I mean in linux every driver I need is compiled in the kernel, so the desire kernel should already have all the necessary drivers in it, for wifi, touchscreen, etc, just for the sistem to use them. So can a linux use them like android does?
-r/w access I think can be bypassed as long as we boot from the sd card, I've seen the solution on this forum, correct me if I'm wrong.
-I've developed a few branch distros based on Ubuntu for my work, but all of them are x86/x64 based, so it's just package customisations, here ve have a non x86 CPU so it must all be cross-compiled, i know there are arm repos for Ubuntu, are they snapdragon compatible?
I know this area is Android development and not Ubuntu development but here are all the guys that really know something about the inners of the system.
Please pardon my English, I did my best.
afaik no one has been able to get debian running on desire.
I'd start with that if I were you.
I tried to get Debian to boot on the Desire and it turned to be impossible to boot. If you can get Debian to boot than naturally Ubuntu would boot without any issues.
I was using the VNC method though.
Well,
you can't install Ubuntu right away...
but you can make a fairly usable Linux modifying some of the available ROMs around.
The most difficulty thing is the X11 system, I don't know if there are any driver...
if android use Framebuffer, maybe you can run X11 over FB.
the rest all can be arranged... removing dalvik & core android... add basic gnome stuff, &c...
if you find some solution for dual boot and want to make a "normal" linux for HTC Desire, I can help you in this for I don't want to be flashing a custom image, then my normal "daily-use" android every now and then
It would be brilliant if we could get Maemo running on the Desire. Considering it is after all just Debian linux it should not be an impossible task. The only difficulty is drivers but that will come with time.
These days I'm busy with my exams,
I started the thread earlier than I can get to work for data/ideas collecting.
Now for what I plan on doing:
-boot a kernel and load the initial files from the sd card instead of internal flash:
h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689911
-put a simple init script to show "hello world" and drop you to a bash prompt,
from there is Linux installing/debugging
The drivers should be provided by the kernel: /dev/eth0 or /dev/wifi0 for wifi, /dev/fb0 framebuffer, etc etc etc.

[Q] KFU :( Just don't get why??

OK.....
Read all the posts, stickys, and other relevant info, and have NO IDEA why I cant get KFU to see my KF!!
Finally got the Computer to see KF as "KINDLE (E)", shows as "Android Composite ADB Interface"...
KF goes to the USB screen very nicely...
Still getting "ADB Status: Offline;Boot Status: Unknown..... (0.9.6)
Pretty sure SDK is configured correctly...
Really dont want to have a dual boot machine JUST to use "Soupkit"..
Is there anyone out there in XDAland who can help me accomplish getting access to this KF so that I can free this machine??
:crying:

Oh and you don't need a dual boot setup to run Linux for the SoupKit. All you need is a USB flash drive and the ability to follow instructions.

Ya...... I'm pretty intelligent but not too technical. Reading the link just confused me more. I understand this is a developers site, however basic noobs like myself , don't really get what you are trying to point out.....sorry.
Is there a "KFU for DUMMIES" I missed somewhere? I just want to root this KF, don't even care if it is/is not a one-click solution. I just need clear, concise, easy to follow, non technical instructions from someone who is more informed about this process than me. PLEASE HELP!!
And please don't misunderstand, I have jailbroken iPhones, rooted other pads and phones, even turned a color Nook into a pad... This KF however, is........... frustratingly not so simple.....
If your looking to run a distro of Linux temporarily try this:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
Its a fairly straight forward guide on booting Ubuntu from a USB

In this particular case, though it may have come across differently from your perspective, I wasn't trying to be rude. Setting up a LiveUSB for booting Linux is really pretty easy. And like I said, the only requirement is a USB flash drive, and the ability to follow instructions. There's really nothing technical about it.
The problem with KFU on your end, is that you don't have communication with ADB, which is a necessary requirement for that, the SopupKit, and pretty much everything else. Setting up ADB in Linux with SoupKit is considerably easier than in Windows with KFU, but if you want to try and get ADB working in Windows, the thread I linked to in my previous post will hopefully show you how.
In either case, you are going to have to pay attention and follow instructions.

[Q] Android linux and kernel development

I have a list of things that I want to do for my flo, and I have no clue where to start.I actually don't even know if this is the correct forum to ask this in, but here goes.
1. I want to be able to use an external WiFi adapter android, and looped Linux images, how can I do this? From everything I've read it seems it starts with including drivers in your kernel for the WiFi adapter. How do I do this? I've read around 10 different tutorials and each are different.
2. I can mount a Linux image inside of android and run it, that's cool, but slow and ineffective. I want to boot into Linux and kiss android goodbye Why do we have to use vnc to connect to the GUI instead of just starting one up? Is it simply because a lack of drivers that connect the GUI to the hardware?. I know that there isn't a version of Linux that will boot on the flo, so why can't I make one? My problem is I don't know where to start. What part of android or Linux has he be coded/compiled differently to work. There are many images that are based on the arm instructions, why is it not possible to just put extract that image and mount it to boot? I believe that a kernel is somewhat of a bridge between the software and firmware, but I don't know what has to change in any of it. I would like to start with a basic non-gui flavor of Linux, then worry about gnome or KDE later.
Any help in the right direction is greatly appreciated. I taught myself JavaScript and HTML back in the 90's just so I could start my own website and say I built it myself. I can learn, I just don't know what I need to learn. Everyone has to start somewhere, I say go big or go home.
Bump
