Hi, after having so many accidents in liquids and fixing my redmi, the top microphone has given out the ghost, and very ocasionally starts inputting static, the bigger annoyance comes when I record videos, which I do very often, because I have to delete the silent/noisy channel and mix them into mono, is there a way to disable said microphone so it doesn't interfere in calls (I have to eat the bottom mic so peaople can hear me)
I'm not replacing it so I want a workaround
Thanks in advance

Hi, does anyone know how to fix this issue? Every single voip application uses top microphone instead of the bottom one. You may not notice this because people can still hear you a bit, but if you try and talk near the top microphone people hear you much better. But talk like this is impossible unless you use earphones
So here is the problem. I have tried talking to Google Support and also LG Support. Not under warranty anymore. I have heard several different people mention problems with their mics in calls, be it incoming or outgoing. I have done several things to try to fix this problem; flashing stock firmware and upgrading thru OTA's, clearing cache, rebooting every day, flashing custom roms, modifying the build.prop, opening the device and checking for physical damage. To my knowledge this phone has 3 microphones that are used for actual speaking and background noise reduction. When I opened the device everything looked ok on what I assumed were the mics (the tiny square bits soldered to the logic board at the top and the bottom). I assume these were just going bad and finally gave out on me. Has anyone had any experience getting these fixed or repaired? Is there any software based approach I can look into? I am really tired of using my speakerphone in every call. I assume I am not the only person with this problem.
If anyone can shed some light on this or help in anyway I would appreciate it
Thanks!
I would start by describing the mic issue you are experiencing during voice calls.
Haven't had any myself.
No one can hear me using the microphone, as soon as I switch to speakerphone the other party is able to hear me.
I've read mics can stop functioning if you try and clean the phone with compressed air. As far as fixing or replacing a mic I am unable to provide assistance.
Well rats. Hopefully someone can shed some light on getting this fixed. I do have some soldering experience but I don't even know how this translates via the logic board. Anyone that has more information the help would be awesome. Thank you for your time though previous posters.

I have this problem as well, but also all media volume can't be heard through the speakers. I've personally cleaned and replaced the unit and nothing works, I just have to choose speaker and start talking, else use a headset or a bluetooth mic
Same problem, no solution yet.
Think that is a software/driver/app combination bug.
When Iam in call hardly can anyone hear me, if I cover top mic - then im heard again (proof that bottom mic is working).
Top mic is used to cancel background noise, phone interpret your voice as background noise and volume it down. That way nobody can hear you.
When I cover top mic - no background noise detected and my voice is heard again.
Question is why top mic detect legit voice as background noise?
Same problem here. Can't use microphone normally on any sort of voice call. I have to change to speaker for people to be able to hear me. I'm not sure if I still have warranty so if it's a software problem I might be able to fix it by myself.
I have been having low in-call volume for about a month. (LG G3 D856)
The earpiece plays loud enough when listening to voice messages on Telegram/WhatsApp but during the call it's too low
I have tried installing custom ROM, downgrading to official KitKat with full wipe. No way.
Can anyone help with it. I am quite sure its a software issue as on other apps the earpiece functions quite well.
P.S. I habe already tried turning on/off Voice Clearity, Voice Enhancement. No change
Hope someone can help with it
I had similar problems with my wife phone d855, and also few HTC old phones. It looks like combination of dust and all other things that has a contact with that part of phone completely fill small net on ear speaker.
This usually helps:
Use old toothbrush, put few drop of alcohol on it and gently tapping on net. Keep tapping minute or two. You will see results..
Advice: disassemble whole phone, and remove speaker to avoid broking speaker, but not necessarily.
In my situations, I get over 200% louder sound. Almost unbelievable..
Hello everyone, a while ago I dropped my phone and now the main mic is broken (the one near the charging port). So I can't record audios or make calls without using a headphone with a mic. BUT WHEN I RECORD VIDEOS THERE IS SOUND. I think that's because of the noise cancelation mic(the one on the upper right side of phone) For some reason it's activated during the video records and captures the sound.
How can I force my phone to use secondary microphone all the time? So that I can make calls and record sounds without changing the primary microphone.
well, I'm not a programmer but I have been trying to edit audio_policy. conf and audio_policy_configuration.xml files.
Apparently there are 2 input sources for microphones. built-in mic and built-in back mic. I have tried deleting these or somehow ' disabling' them. but nothing happened. I can still capture sounds while recording videos but the very same damn microphone wouldn't work while recording voices.
How hard is it to simply disable the main mic and use the noice cancelation mic as the main one? I'm sure you programmers can figure it out better than me ??
I'm facing the same issue, have you found any hack for that ?
Any luck bicho2015? My main microphone died on my Pixel 4 and I would like to reroute to the other 2 built-in mics.
Hey, did a search but didn't see anything. I have a G7 running ULM20e (sprint cross flashed).
When I'm on a call using Whatsapp or Kakaotalk, the other party can hear their own voice (echo). I never hear any; it's perfect for me. When I switch to speakerphone and keep the volume low, then they DON'T get the echo. With earphones plugged in (iphone style earbuds), they still hear the echo.
Does this sound like a software issue?
I installed a mic app to record voice/sound and when I speak into it, it's fine. No echo, so the mics are operating properly.
Weird, and the gf is getting annoying.. sigh
Posting my fix for future reference. After some research and lots of software testing (tried 3 differen roms, Oreo and Pie), I believed it to be a "hardware" issue. On youtube, I saw a video that described a fix and I basically did that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkcxzmCPFWw
I took soft foam and covered the areas around the bottom microphone with it. Both underneath the plastic shield (boombox speaker) and above (just under the back panel). It has reduced the echo to 10-15% of the amount before, but not completely eliminated. I think I can live with that for now.
