Question Change Launcher - Red Magic 8 pro

Reviewers say you can't do it but you can.
Global rom
1. Download Launcher
2. Settings, Apps, App Info, 3 dots top right corner, Default App Settings, Launcher.
Enjoy.

On my (UK) Redmagic 8 Pro it is:
Settings Applications > App info > (three dots right corner) >Default app settings > Desktop
I also managed to do this earlier by first installing an alternative launcher and then going to:
Settings > Applications > App info > Nubia Launcher > Open by default > Clear defaults
After clearing the default, attempting to go "Home" then showed the option of setting the default launcher.

First post in the forum YAY, actually wanted to chime in here
I’m using lawn chair 2 (kinda got used to the folder covers and speed of it, trying to migrate to nova but im finding hard to keep margins and speediness from lawn chair on it)
Only caveat is that (At least with lawn chair and nova) you loose the switch in between apps gesture (slide from the bottom left or right) but if you try another one with it working it would be amazing to read about it. It kinda slows me down in my work flow.
Kind regards

This doesn't work on my z50 ultra. Under default app settings, there is no desktop or launcher option anyone know of any workaround?

Can you send a screenshot of the 3dot options? And the default app menu ?

I also downloaded lime launcher. Same thing happens, I can open the app and customise it but it won't let me set it as home. The first pic I posted is still all it shows me even though I have two different launchers installed.

Doesn't this require root? I couldn't find a forum on XDA dedicated to the Z50 Ultra to even find a root method.

Only thing that comes to mind is to mail zte directly, their customer service is not… that efficient… but still.

Okay, I think I've found a workaround. For anyone else with this issue, download Niagara launcher. It'll let you select your own launcher from within the app and nova will show up if you have it installed.

It is the first time I'm seeing something like this. Quite absurd not to allow setting a 3rd party launcher as default.
Xiaomi allows setting 3rd party launchers as default, but it disables gesture navigation in that case. Another absurd decision.
Glad that you figured out a way to solve this. So your device OEM has hidden the ability to change the default launcher. Niagara Launcher seems to unhide it for users. Good job.

[Q] Stock ICS Launcher

I'm eagerly awaiting the Galaxy Nexus release on Verizon in the U.S., and I've been reading a lot of reviews and such and there's a few things I've been wondering about in regards to the new launcher/dock in ICS. So far I haven't seen any reviews that have addressed the launcher in detail other than mentioning that you can customize the 4 icons on either side of the app tray.
I've been wondering...
1. Does the stock ICS launcher allow you to use custom icons? I'm not sure I like the look of the default ones they use for the dialer, browser, sms, etc... they look a little cartoony to me.
2. How about a scrollable dock (like in Launcher Pro) that gives you three panels to scroll through, with 5 customizable slots on each?
3. What about swipe gestures? For example, in LP you can set it so that if you swipe upwards from your browser shortcut it will pop up with a list of your bookmarks.
Thanks!

There is a labs feature that enables 'quick controls' similar to those found in Honeycomb.

To my knowledge no. You can either download a third-party launcher like LP, or go the root/custom ROM and/or custom theme route, in which case those will be found in the "Development" and "Themes and Apps" sections.

The Labs feature in the Browser's settings kind of has this, called "Quick Controls" which removes the top bar and you access bookmarks or settings by swiping inwards from the sides of the screen. But not precisely what you are asking for...
Ah! Oscillik beat me to it

[Q] Google Now launcher and missing icons

I've just installed the Google Now Launcher but some icons, like calendar and notes, are missing, showing only a green android.
Is there a way to fix this?

Please use search, this topic has been discussed before.
The icons for certain built in LG apps do not appear to show up in third party launchers. Some folks have found icon packs that you can install to work around the issue (this only works with certain launchers).

Another question (I've just found out).. How can I disable google now launcher (to use again the LG launcher) without uninstalling it? If I go in the app menu the disable button, the one to delete the preference for that app, is grey..

That's not working as I said, the button is grey, I can't clear the defaults like I do with the other app!
Okay I misunderstood your first post on this. The LG launcher is called home. launch that and it should ask if you want it as the default.

Assist & Voice input

Hi to all!
Simply question: I want to remove the google assistant in the bottom corners of the homescreen, so i go settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app and i select none and till here nothing to say. The problem is that everytime i reboot or switch off the phone, google assistant return as default app instead of "none" and it's a lot weird. There's a way to definitely remove the app? i don't want to uninstall or disable it, only remove from the corners. Maybe a fake app to put there instead of google. Thank you!

If you're rooted, just freeze it with titaniumbackup. If not rooted, use adb to disable.
Edit... N/m Check the launcher settings? I use nova launcher so never seen it.
Which os are you on?
when I follow that route (settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app) I just have Google, no option for "none".
i use the MS launcher and I've never had the Google assistant on the home screen, switched back to the 1+ default and it wasn't there either
I'm on stock oos 10.0.12, I've taken a screen.. and I'm using Nova launcher

I've said I don't want to disable it because I think it could give problems

I'm not sure.. I have mine set to 'none' as I don't use the assistant. I haven't had any issues. In fact, it's been that way since I set up the phone some 9 months ago.

How To Guide Remove NavBar Gesture Pill (and more) for Pixel 6 Pro

Update: This only works if you are rooted now, since the January 2022 patch.
Hi guys, I've seen several posts asking how to remove the Gesture Pill. It's easy if you're rooted, but it's also possible if you're not rooted.
Here is a step by step guide. There is also a huge amount of UI mods that can be made using the same method.
1. Download the Shizuku app from the Playstore
2. Start the Shizuku app by running the following adb command:
adb shell sh /sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/start.sh
3. Download and install FabricateOverlay release from Github.
4. In FabricateOverlay click “Add Overlay”
5. Choose Android System
6. Click “Add”
7. Set “android:dimen/navigation_bar_height” to 1. Apply. Save. Tick.
8. Set “android:dimen/navigation_bar_frame_height” to 0. Apply. Save. Tick.
9. Enjoy!
Let me know in the thread if anything is unclear.
Thanks to @squee666 for an alternative solution that does not affect the keyboard! Try it out!

Very nice, thank you for this!
Points 8 and 9 xan you be more specific.
Damn, it's too bad that the overlay system can't change fonts. I don't even want to install custom fonts, I just want to change the system default to the new Google font instead of Roboto. Without root.
Can we enable Fluid Navigation Gestures after applying a similar tweak?

Basically you need to search "android:dimen/navigation_bar_height" by entering it in the search box. Then click on it. Then add the value in the value box and click "Apply". There are screenshots showing how it works here.

Great! It works. Thanks!
But there seems to be one down-side ... when you enable the overlay the Google keyboard does not longer show the "down" marker to make the keyboard disappear. The android:dimen/navigation_bar_frame_height (0) is causing that. See attached 2 screenshots. First one is without overlay enabled, second one has overlay enabled. Notice how the little downward pointing arrow is gone on the second one.

Good point. However, you just need to swipe back for the keyboard to disappear.

It might be possible to increase the bottom margin of the keyboard in system.ui. I'll check in a bit.
Edit: Actually, the handle is part of the navbar, which is the reason why it disappears when removing the navbar.

Just open the Shizuku app and press "Start" in "Start (for rooted devices)".
So on Android 10, there was an overscan feature that allowed the 3 button navigation to be hidden and replaced with 3rd party navigation apps such as Fluid Navigation Gestures. This allowed swipe up from the bottom navigation much like OnePlus and Samsung offer. My curiosity is if this mod allows third party apps the hide and utilize the navbar.

Only if they integrate the Shizuku library into their app afaik.

One question, how come that this sticks after reboot (even when disabling Shizuku/FabricateOverlay)?

Basically you only need to give the app permission to change the settings (i.e. write to secure settings). Once the system setting is written it sticks. But if you want to change the value again you will need to go through the same process with both apps.

I am facing an issue with my Samsung Galaxy F41, I am trying to set a custom launcher as my default launcher but I keep getting prompted to select between my custom launcher and the Samsung pre-built one.

I have already specified the custom launcher as my default in the default apps settings, but it keeps asking me to choose between the two. I have attached a video that shows the exact problem I am facing.
Your browser is not able to display this video.

I am not aware of any API changes made by Samsung in their latest update (Someone told me that it's something related api and i don't know what was he wanted to tell me), but I have tried all the ways I know to fix the problem and I still can't figure it out. I have tried multiple famous launchers available in the Play Store, but the problem remains.
If you have any solution to this issue, please let me know in the comments section. I would really appreciate your help in resolving this issue as I am eager to use my custom launcher as my default.
For example, Nova Launcher defends itself from being removed as the main launcher in its own settings.
Where did you get this "Kwaesltso" from?

Btw I tried Nova launcher as well but getting same issue.
Before selecting a launcher app, try tapping on "Always" first.
I'm using One UI 2.5 with Nova and it works OK, but Kvaesitso doesn't work well because except for the home screen with clock and notifications I can't open the app panel.
