I have a Firestick Gen3 and having a curious issue. When the firestick starts and I run the in-built speed test I get 200 Mbps. That is my fibre connection speed. But 5 mins later the speed cuts down by 1/6th and I get only 20-30 Mbps and everything starts to buffer.
I have tried resetting the stick but doesn't seem to help. On my laptop I constantly hit 200 Mbps so I know it is not the router.

I have read a fair bit about the power consumption of wifi against 3G. It seems that wifi uses less power on average because it's not constantly looking for a network, and the distance to transmit data is less.
However it seems that this backfires when using wifi heavily as the faster data speeds cause greater power drain.
I currently get well above 10Mb/s when using the SpeedTest.net app on the wifi and seriously doubt if I'll notice the difference day to day if I restrict it to ~2Mb/s if and there's a possibility of the battery lasting longer this would be a good idea.
What I was wondering is if I shape the traffic on my router at home to limit the bandwidth available to my phone will this cause the power usage to be less ? I think it will but I'd like some input
The WiFi chip on the Desire only has been measured to have two power states when enabled and Link Speed seems to have no difference to it's power requirement. The two states are LOW and HIGH, and their power draw is fairly fixed regardless of the data speed or transmission size (fluctuates very little). That's very unlike 3G.
Enabled, idle, Low state: http://bit.ly/aMzGjh
34 mW
Enabled, load, High state (6.8 Mbps): http://bit.ly/bknguK
405 mW (Link Speed 54 Mbps)

Thanks for that
Throughput across wifi is approx 200KB/s which is not 'too bad' but its only about 1/6th the speed of my connection. The biggest issue though seems to be the ping. I get about 30ms when pinging the phone, and on the phone itself web pages seem to take quite a good 3-5x longer to load than my desktop computer (also connected via wifi). I've set the wireless performance slider to maximum performance but is there anything else I can do?
Mobile devices never had good wifi antennas. Except for several models.
Rhodium had got *only* a 528Mhz processor (not to mention bad Opera optimization, ram access, slow storage etc), I guess that's the biggest bottleneck when viewing webpages.
On my xperia, the wifi works quite slow if I'm slightly far away from the router (still getting full bars), approximately around 5 meters away and it starts getting slower.
My friends galaxy s6 gets perfect speeds, while mines ends up slowing down, in speed tests the speeds slow down from 10mbps to 1,2mbps.
Is this a known issue or is there some fix??
On latest z5 update 32.3.A.2.33
i Don't actually know solution but my Z5p also have small wifi coverage range makes me to be with router all the time
Hi, if I go to balcony or to living room, both are about 3 to 4metres away from router, the speed drops to almost zero. If I am close to the router, the the download from Google Play is 7MB per sec, on balcony it is slow, 200KB per sec, the signal is there full or almst full. Thanks.
Same, after updating to 7.0 wifi is a bit worse than before. But phone reception signal is better now.
I just installed BSNL BHARAT FIBER at my home yesterday. Plan is upto 50 mbps
After numerous tests on speedtest.net.in , following were my observations
1. Mi Max 2 - Around 40-45 mbps
2. Laptop - Around 50 mbps
But on Redmi Note 8 Pro, m getting only 30-35 mbps , sometimes even lesser.
What could be the issue and how can I fix it ?
I have a problem caused by bluetooth turned on. Whenever its on, my wifi speed drops significaly. Maybe its a problem with your Redmi note 8 pro also. Check bluetooth ?
I have the same problem. When I turn on the Bluetooth the speed of internet connection is not stable and drops significantly. I don’t know if I have problem with my antenna or it is a bug.
