I'm hoping to find a custom ROM for a Pixel 3XL that will still get security updates for a while, any recommendations? Would it be better to flash one based on Android 12.1 rather than 13? I'm seeing a few outstanding issues with 13 on the P3XL, like no VoLTE support.
Pixel Experience and LineageOS get pretty consistent updates. I belive the 3XL can also run Android Preview GSIs, which is what the Pixel firmware is based on.
Lineage has been pretty stable for me, has a built in updater and has weekly updates. I can't speak to the contents of the updates being "security" updates but it's updated weekly.
I'm on Lineageos 20 and have volte and Wifi Calling. it might be your carrier settings on the pixel 3xl have both hard set to false. You can override the carrier settings if you have root. But will still need VoLTE provisioned by your carrier

Recently when OnePlus team released some news about upcoming Pie upgrade on their forums, i wonder if Google had made Treble mandatory on devices that upgrade to Pie now?
AFAIK when they upgrade to oreo last year, they never enable Treble on OP3 as Google didn't made it mandatory...
Thanks!
Noo. It was mandatory for phones which came with oreo out of the box and pie out of the box. Op3 came with marshmallow out of the box
For newer phones launching with Oreo (or any later versions), Treble support is necessary to pass VTS (therefore get the checks needed for the phone to use Gapps).
However, this was (and is) never the case for upgrades. There is also no change in this rule, and I imagine OnePlus wouldn't bother with it.
I am currently on factory default rom for my Google pixel 4xl. To my surprise , after over an year of use I thought of enabling the voLTE and realized the feature don't work anywhere except in usa only by google. Just wanted to check if I switched to custom rom like lineage os would support the feature.
Was able to figure out the solution. Thanks to original poster who helped the community and pixel phones features usable. More info in the link below.

Any plans for making a custom ROM with OOS11 Being based on Android 12? OOS12 is color os and I'm not a fan.
I think everyone needs to wait and see what the final A12 build turns out to look like for Oneplus devices. It could look different than even the open beta we're seeing now. Oneplus' CEO: "Lau confirmed that the 2022 flagship — theoretically called the OnePlus 10 — would be the first phone with the new unified operating system. After this launch, we would see the unified OS on both new Oppo and OnePlus phones going forward."
Now that my pixel 3A XL is no longer getting updates from Google
An Android 13 on the horizon I'm considering unlocking the bootloader
Now I've done this before on my Nexus phones but not my Pixel it's bootloader is locked.
So here are my questions
Does anyone have a video to the process of unlocking the pixel 3A XL
What ROM are most people using with the 3A XL
is there still a Toolbox for Doing Roms and unlocking like was with Nexus phones.
And when do you think we'll likely see a port of Android 13 done by a member of the community
Thank you in advance for your answers
Few weeks ago for the first time following this instruction https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/bonito/install installed lineage os 18.1, but instead of full adb and fastboot im download this: minimal adb and fastboot
3a is popular so sooner or later they will come unofficial Android 13
You will be waiting a while, los 19 aka android 12 just dropped this week.
Others custom's like Pixel Experience or AICP have faster development, but new version of android is not always good thing, more important are secuirty updates and bug fixes
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I have been looking and looking and as far a a custom rom thats even still being updated it looks like you got los 19 and aicp. Thats all I could find. Every other rom in the thread here and listed in google searches is based on android 10 and not been updated in close to a year.
I hope someone will chime in and correct me and say no theres this other rom as well but so far I have only found the 2 I listed and the new los 19 is currently pretty featureless.
Hi,
is it possible to keep the stock rom and install newest google security patches?
It would be better to keep everything as it is (also user data) and just install security patches.
I love this phone and I don't need a new one. I'm also fine with the stock rom.
The only thing what bothers me is that the last security patch is 5 months ago.
(im familiar with flashing custom roms years ago: cyanogenmod on galaxy s3, lineagueos on s5. But since then I did not get in touch with the custom roms topic)
Thank you!

If you're on A12 try using Oxygen Updater to see if a later update is available.
Otherwise 1+ has ended updates for the 7 series
OnePlus 7 and 7T Series Will No Longer Get Any Software Updates
OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 7 and the 7T series will no longer get software updates going forward. Have a look at the details.

Yes oneplus ended updates and I don't like custom roms.
So the only option for me would be to buy a new phone just because I want security patches...

Afraid so. Security updates are pretty much over once the manufacturer stops tweaking the patches for a particular line.
Even Google only promises Pixel security updates for 5 years.
