My girlfriend got the Pixel a couple months ago and I assume she factory reset her HTC10 and threw it in a drawer.
Well now she wants to give it to her mom so she pulls it out and it's asking for a pattern, she had a password before resetting it, not a pattern. I've booted it into bootloader/download mode and factory reset doesn't seem to be an option anymore. Anyone have any ideas? This phone is entirely stock.
You should have it in download mode. (I have it there still at least)
But maybe a ruu could help.

Couple options here. First option if you have root/twrp you can adb shell into the phone, and rm -rf /data/system/*.key and locksettings*. This has saved me from when i did a twrp restore and the pin/password didnt work. Option #2 is to flash a stock RUU from htc. The RUU will basically be the equivalent to factory resetting. Visit http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html and you can find the correct firmware for your carrier. Occasionally the RUU will not run correctly due to lack of missing dependencies. Please visit http://venomroms.com/ruu/ and read through the post. It has great instructions on how to properly install the RUU and it has a list of required packages. Please note though, that the oem provided RUUs from HTC directly require windows to be installed. Good luck. If you need help you may PM or reply.
Oh, I forgot. Power off device completely. Hold down power and volume down to boot into download mode. From this menu, you should have the option to factory reset. You will not see a factory reset option in the bootloader, only download mode.
Once you are in Bootloader mode, go to Recovery Mode. You should see a red upside-down triangle with !. Press and hold Power and press Volume Up just once. A new menu should appears with Factory Reset.
Update: Just find out there is a video in this thread showing how it is done. *** Important: According to the video, you will need the email/password used previously for backup synch. I did not need to use a different email so I assume he is correct.

I need help with my Honor 8 Pro.
So, I unlocked my bootloader and installed TWRP but after some days I screwed up something and the TWRP's gone and now there's just the erecovery available (However its only giving me 'Update and reset' option instead of usual wiping and it's failing to update itself on clicking that option)
Second part is, I can boot my device but its getting stuck on 'Wait a sec' screen after entering WiFi details in the setup wizard (and I can't bypass it because of 'The way you restored factory settings may pose security risks. Please verify your identity with your Google account' message)
Any help would be appreciated.
P.s. USB debugging is turned off so phone is not getting detecting in ADB/Fastboot
Amazon is pushing a new version for the Firestick 4K (not max) running fire OS 6.2.x.x.
This update prevents you from using your own launcher.
So, to prevent updates, you can disable a few of the OTA system modules, however if running a version higher than 6.2.8.1 (xxx/40xx) (for example /4812 is higher than /4061 and /4812 wont work), then you can NOT disable the OTA modules because they are now "protected" files.
So, I have two Amazon firesticks 4k that come with a version of fire os that you CAN disable the OTA files, but I can't fugure out a way to do it because part of the process of setting up a new stick will check for the "latest" firmware and install it - which will install the version that you can NOT disable the OTA files.
So, is there a way to use ADB or some other method to disable these files when setting up a new firestick?
com.amazon.device.software.ota
com.amazon.tv.forceotaupdater.v2
com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
(and this is assuming that the setup process will continue it the check for the latest firmware fails if these files are disabled).
i been trying the same but firestick setup will not continue if you block the updates......i dont know if anyone will find away to set up a new stick without downloading the new updates

Unplug the rj11/rj45 cable from your router so you still have wifi but it has no internet access. Try setup your firetv and see if it allows you to get to the dashboard. If it does enable adb and disable the update packages:
Code:
pm disable-user com.amazon.tv.forcedotaupdater.v2
pm disable-user com.amazon.device.software.ota
pm disable-user com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
pm clear com.amazon.device.software.ota
reboot
Another option is to first change the DNS value on your router's DHCP config to push out the DNS entry of 104.155.28.90 and 104.154.51.7 before you power on your devices. Then setup your devices as per usual and your devices shouldn't be able to pull the new updates down.

i set up opendns on my laptop.....blocked the updates.....set up mobile hotspot on the laptop and connected firestick to that.....the set up on new stick will not complete because the firestick cannot connect to the blocked updates,,,.........Unplugging the rj11/rj45 cable does not work either as same thing....firestick cannot connect to updates
Why don't they just follow the instructions in my link?
Original Source ->> https://troypointinsider.com/t/block-amazon-system-updates/43814/45
The goal is to enter the VoiceView mode.
See point 4-7
1. Turn on your mobile hotspot on your phone.
2. Get to the part where you connect to a network and connect to your hotspot.
3. As soon as it says “getting updates” disconnect your hotspot.
4. On the next page that says network error, hold down the back and menu buttons at the same time for a couple seconds to enter VoiceView mode.
5. Push the back button to exit VoiceView mode (with your hotspot still disconnected).
6. You should now be at the registration page. Go ahead and enter your Amazon credentials and turn your hotspot back on to connect.
7. As soon as your account registers and you get to the home page, proceed to use your preferred method of blocking system updates.

ok thanks....i will give that a try
Note to 6.2.8.1/4812 on which I am also.
com.amazon.device.software.ota (can no longer be disabled via ADB)
com.amazon.tv.forceotaupdater.v2 (can still be disabled via ADB)
com.amazon.device.software.ota.override (can no longer be disabled by ADB)
So the updates have to be blocked via DNS or in the router or via Blockada APP.
But the Wolf Launcher still works via home button.
This no longer works from the Fire OS 6.2.8.7 NS6287/3768.

What version and build did your device have after the factory reset?
Were you able to successfully disable updates using both commands?

I think he did NOT do a factory reset - he simply "setup" a brand new stick and used that special process to prevent it from downloading the latest version during the setup process.
And his stick probably had version 7.2.4.2 on it out-of-the-box, and since he was able to skip the update process during setup - so it stayed a 7.2.4.2, he was then able to disable those two OTA files, so now it won't ever do an update.

yes ....i think amazon is still sending out sticks without the latest software so if you get a new stick it is still possible to do....

Disconnecting internet method (fire_cuber linked above, Thank You!) worked to not auto update at initial set up on a new fire TV stick 4k and able to register just now.
I disconnected it soon after fire tv home screen and checking what Fire OS it has. Looks like Amazon is currently shipping the 4K with Fire OS 6.2.9.2 (NS6292/4226). Is this a bad one? Can I not put Wolf that others have mentioned as a better interface/launcher?
I have not connected it back on until I know how to disable the auto update completely? Can someone direct me to how to disable it? I read a few adb methods but don't know if they still work. Anyone has done it recently? Will it start downloading updates immediately when I connect it back on? Thanks guys.
I think that these versions are when it started that you could no longer easily install a third party launcher:
Fire OS 6.2.8.1+
Fire OS 7.2.5.6+
And at some version prior to the above versions is when they started to prevent the ability to disable OTA.
A bit late but.......
I disabled OTA by blocking the servers that provide the updates on my router's /etc/hosts file and then verified they were blocked by pinging them on my PC. You should be able to block the sites in your router GUI.
Block the following.
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com
updates.amazon.com
Code:
[email protected]# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
127.0.0.1 softwareupdates.amazon.com
127.0.0.1 updates.amazon.com
I got the server info from here fwiw.
a screen will appear, which will say "Unable to check for updates, retry or reboot the stick"
Press and hold the BACK and MENU buttons simultaneously on the remote for a few seconds, until the VoiceView accessibility feature turns on. Then, once the VoiceView feature is on the screen, press the BACK button on the remote to exit VoiceView.
Now it will ask for an account, log-in.
Note: If you connect to another network later then you won't be protected. Sideloading and configuring an app like DNS66 or AdAway after initial setup will enable you to continue blocking the sites on your device. Good luck!
Hi,
My Motorola One Action is original (so no custom firmware or rooted) and every now and then i receive auto updates. Recently the phone was upgraded to Android 11. Fine.
Last weekend there was an update and in the morning the phone was stuck on Android bootloader with the question "format" or "retry" (cannot remember exactly, but it was 2 questions) and i chose "retry". The device rebooted; android logo showed up and then the google/android assistant showed up with the notification "Hello" and a lanuage selector.
I choose NL or EN and then a white screen with "Just a sec..." appears and this screen will stay there forever. I put the phone on charger and waited 30 hours, still the same.
What i tried:
- reboot;
- press & hold power button long time; reboot;
- turn off and then volume Down + Power key bootloader. There isnt much i can do here;
- from screen above; go to fastboot mode (volume Up + power) but unfortunately there is no whipe cache option; only whipe data / factory reset.
FYI: there are still a lot of photo's on the device; i dont want a factory reset and/or whipe data.
I put device in bootloader mode again, connect with usb and installed "Rescue and Smart Assistant". The device recognized, IMEI is found and more stuff. In this Windows app i can download the correct firmware; i store it in c:/motorola/firware. The file is troika_reteu_rsbs31.q1-48-36-23-2_subsidy-default_regulatory-default_cfc.xml.zip
The the "Start Rescue" button is shown; but the message "Flashing removes all data from device".
I dont want that so i followed this guide:
The conversion went OK and executed the file generated (.bat), immediately a upload process starts; this takes about 5-6 minutes. After that; a device reboot and still... the same result.
Any tips or advice would be very helpful (i hope).
I found this; looks promising

But unfortunately the image browser does not respond.
I have contacted Motorola / Lenovo using their forum. In short their answer is that for almost sure the only way is to completely reset the device that means whiping data.
Is there absolutely no way to access the data partition?
I used ADB to flash a newer and older version of android.
Both version gave a error message directly when phone powered on.
Then i re-installed the current version of android; phone worked again. Unfortunately all data lost.
My mi11 bricked. The screen only shows errors: system ui isn't responding,I entered recovery mode and then upgraded to the latest system now.but nothing changed.I also restored the factory settings, but the problem has not been resolved.

I bought a second-hand mobile phone to restore, because the display was broken, the seller said that there were no associated accounts, as the display did not show an image and only sound, I deduced that everything was going well, when I tried I found that I had an MI account associated. the seller don't know also the mi account information, now I can't use it at all, I didn't want to spend more money on the phone so I tried everything that is within reach on the internet. The mobile has:
1. My account (I don't have the information)
2. Impossible to unlock the bootloader (I can't access the mobile phone)
3. Impossible to enable debug mode (I can't access the mobile phone)
4. I can connect in fastbook
5. I can connect in adb sideload
6. I can connect in EDL mode (Qualcomm 9008)
I tried QPST, QFIL, but it always gives an error, maybe because of the firehose.
As the bootloader is blocked, I have no more chances for free, the last hope was to try Firehose in Auth for this model, but I can't find it anywhere.
The cell phone does not detect the Touch, and every time I turn it off it restarts automatically. However I can use a mouse in OTG.
I thought if I did a flash it would solve it too.
The last solution is to pay someone who can do the job and guarantee that it will work without restrictions, for that you would also have to find someone you can trust.
