Question Low resolution on games - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

Looks like 720p or even 480. It happens to most of the games i've played but Blue Archive and Apex Legends Mobile in particular are more pronounced. I have updated to the latest version, factory resetted, turned game turbo on/off and switched off MIUI optimization. Max settings + anti aliasing turned on for the games. Does anyone have a fix for this?

images aren't compressed, this is exactly what i see in-game
Genshin (ui (paimon button) not pixelated, but the characters background etc is), honkai (cutscenes only), PUBG, codm, ba and probably more as these are the only games I've tested. not oc
You can fix this on Samsung tablets by disabling Samsung game optimisation but the issue resurfaced on an update to a11 according to a user. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/low-resolution-blurry-screen-when-gaming.4174889/

Considering that majority of mobile games run on 720 or 1080 in resolution while the Mi Pad 5 has a 2k resolution screen it's very much normal to have blurry gameplay due to having more resolution than the game supports.
Genshin is one of the examples where the gameplay resolution is limited to 720p while the icons are 1080p
This is why the games look sharper and better on smartphones because smartphones right now have like 1080p or 1440p screens which is near or what the games support.
Basically what I'm saying is that
1080p resolution is better on a 1080p resolution screen and you won't see any low res stuff
While 1080p resolution on 2k resolution is just blurry because that 1080p resolution is stretched to fit the 2k screen so it looks blurry and low res.
I'm not good at explaining so I hope you understood me TwT

I stopped playing Apex Mobile after 1 season but I do play Blue Archive.
Fixed the low resolution problem of BA by updating the GPU driver from v502 to v530 or 655 + Installing UnlockerSapphire

Download a magisk module you can search over the web for it.
Im using Adreno Driver v655 + IUnlocker Sapphire+ module. (You can also use Adreno driver v530 for a much safer option)

Thank you!! I did notice a real improvement in resolution, but the blurring effect didn't go away completely.
Hasn't it completely disappeared for you too?

Will this increase performance in other games too like pubgm, codm and apex? Also is there any tutorial to do all these steps? I have mi pad5 and I havenot rooted any android device in my life (

Blue Archive's low res problem seems to be caused by the game itself, not the high screen resolution. The low res happens on my Oppo A76 too (720p I think?).

fpse with opengl optimal settings

Hi all,
I've tried but with no succes yet with the newest version of fpse
What are the optimal settings graphic/performance wise for our plays?
The opengl plugin should be working fine on adreno 205 gpu's but with me the fps won't pass 35 in chrono cross. I can see great graphic enhancement with the plugin though.
all feedback is welcome
Does FPS on Chrono Cross go up if you sacrifice sound?
There was a thread on this a while back. But it's this post by the developer of FPSE that excited me.

about xperia play touchpad, i'm progressing too, i can say it will be ok for the next release. (let me finish this part and new release will be ok), very impressived by the speed of FPse on Xperia play running ICS... incredible with OpenGL plugin in 854x480...very smooth and gfx are so sharp. the new automatic opengl download feature is very cool too. so easy.
I fixed many bugs too. FPse will be more stable for next release.

Has anyone here with the new Adreno drivers given the FPSE OpenGL graphics plugin a try? Or will we need the new FPSE version as well when it comes out?
I wasn't sure if the custom ICS kernels / roms have the new drivers, or whether you'd need both to be stock, and I haven't personally flashed ICS beta yet.
On Gingerbread with OpenGL but without the new Adreno drivers I found only Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 ran OK without overclocking: Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4 were too slow.
Im in the process of testing crash badicoot 3 right now. Im also going to download.....ergh I mean Rip Tekken 3 and let you know
***Edit****
Crash Bash 3 seems.....to work....In all fairness I overclocked to 2Ghz, it did slow down somewhat, only at the menu where everything breaks out the box, my gpu is apparently overclocked as well (Although there is no proof) so I suppose thats probably why its not slowing down much. Looking forward to testing Tekken 3 through I will update again when I have tested both thouroughly. This is with defualt settings by the way with the OpenGL plugin installed.
*****Edit2*****
Ok after testing crash bash3 there are some graphical issues such as this one below. It was a loading screen after cortext disapears when you go into the first level. When I got in the level, the graphics were pretty sweet, I would have took a screen shot but my CPU went above 40c and it rebooted lol so I am about to test Tekken 3 now that it has cooled down.

Ok so I tested Tekken 3 and it did slow down even when at 2Ghz. And more buggy issues, the screens below should help but even so, it was quite slow, turning off the sound helped but still.
The Namco credits
Character Select Screen
Finaly in level where the only issue was slow down
All in all, I think we are better off waiting for the new GPU drivers in my opinion. Either that or wait for the developer to update it. Its not just the speed thats the issue its graphically as well. bear in mind this is the kind of performance you would get with a overclocked 2Ghz CPU and an overclocked GPU. I'd feel sorry for anyone with a standard processor trying this.

So , do you mean the PSXPERIA is still better ?
did you tried F.P.S.E 1.11.15 ? ( latest )
Just tried it. The graphics glitches are still there. It's playable with sound at 1.6ghz, frameskip=on, system > boost mode=on. I'm on doomkernel v10, because I thought my phone didn't like gpu overclock. But it's still faster and more responsive without the opengl plugin, and there's no need for oc or frameskip.
But yeah, I'm on Gingerbread, it was the ICS graphics drivers that sounded hopeful.
There are some new framelimiting options in the new version.
Psxperia either needs a small overclock (software mode) or crashes after the first fight (hardware mode). But sticking it on practice mode where the fight never finishes and learning moves on the bus is quite cool

Well in my opinion I think fpse without opengl is better, mainly because of the compatibility. Fpse works with almost anything, psxperia doesn't. I love psxperia because of the PlayStation pocket integration, sometimes because of the compression games can end up being half the size but theres no point if the game doesn't work properly, I.e tekken 3.
Hmm, I'm trying ICS beta now. I'm using KeiranFTW's lovely smooth ROM, analogue pads work in FPSE and I must have the drivers installed because I'm getting almost double the fps score in Nenamark 2, but...
I can't see any difference in speed with the OpenGL plugin. Is there a setting somewhere I've missed? The graphics look great, if it could pull that plugin off this really would be THE phone!

Actually there's a GFX option in settings: moving it from medium to high makes the game lagging. So I just keep it medium, graphics are all good though

i found file that contains script that changes the graphic.... i am surprised that tegra 3 only got Medium setting while adreno 320 got Ultra High setting and mali got High setting...
i found this file in Dungeon Hunter 4 obb...
i tried to change the setting from this file..(because my adreno 205 only got low setting and i believe that my gpu can do more with the graphic)
the problem is, i can't figure it out how to add these config files and re-build the obb... cause in obb there are zip file and it uses different compression...
and when i tried it, i am always get force close.... i believe that the problem is how to rebuild the obb...not the setting....

Hello! I have a galaxy s2 but I think this could be interesting for me, because I want to increase visual quality but the game only permits me medium. How do you know the values we can change for that?
In relation to compress into obb I have discovered the way to create the new one. With 7zip program create the file main.101.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftD4HM.obb selecting zip format (without any level of compression) with the folder "data" and the new "cdata.zip". Rename its extension from .zip to .obb. I have tested it and works fine for me.
If there is something unclear let me know, I write in English the best I can.
I hope you could help me too!

6-) You are ready now.Open Gltools and choose a game for change somethings.I will show you my settings for Need for Speed Most Wanted. You can use this settings for other games but it does not work with all games so sometimes you must use your settings
Note : Do not choose " Simple MapBuffer emulation " on FPS and RPG games like Dead Trigger and Temple Run.
7-) If you want more FPS in your game than do like this in Gltools :
Choose " Use fake GPU info "
Choose " SGX 540 " in " Use a template "
Note : Delete it " GL_OES_compressed_ETC1_RGB8_texture " from " Fake GL_EXTENSIONS " only for Need for Speed Most Wanted.
You must do like this sample.
If you want to really more FPS in your games than disable " Anti-aliasing " in Gltools like sample. This increases your FPS approximative 2~3 :

EDIT: oh I see B513, then I have another question will this also work on AOSP-based Custom ROMs like Paranoid Android? And is our phone then still getting so hot when playing these games?

Tried that too, I'm getting error not enough space in system. I got that error when tried to paste and replace old build.prop (only difference between these build.prop files was powersaving true/false)
have you checked your file Explorer and set it to r/w in system?

Try without changing build.prop .I think it impress only 1~2 FPS because P7 has better hardware than P6
Following the guide I modified Real Racing 3 and from about 11 FPS I gained 8/9 FPS. Because of the lower render resolution I preferred to only optimize the graphics a bit. From previous experiences I learned that using FolderMount to store big game's data, makes the game a lot faster gaining about 10/15 FPS...So with Real Racing 3+FolderMount (storing on a 32Gb class10 microSD)+GLtools (Look the pictures for settigns)+Seeder, I reached 37 FPS without compromising graphics...
I have a p6 with b511, and nfs mw works ok...

Method to unlock 90fps on games which supports high refresh frame

Hi guys!
I understand some of the people who realised that games which support higher refresh, but OnePlus was capped to 60fps for massive games, this is ridiculous. Before I provide solutions to unlock 90fps, let me share some thoughts about how I discovered that games were capped to 60fps!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.razer.cortex&hl=en just provided new features to able shows FPS, but I discovered that while I playing Dead Trigger 2 with max settings, the phone shows 60fps. PUBG China version able to running with 90fps without stress!
Image below is Dead Trigger 2 which capped 60fps by OnePlus:

Below is PUBG China version:
So I suspected that OnePlus done something for it.
So I tried jOnePlus Tools [adb/root], and Force 90Hz:
And... volia! Full video link showing many games finally runs 90fps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIT0yBCPwis
If anyone doesn't trust the video above, you may try the app that I found to Force 90hz for your OnePlus device, witness it for yourself. I understand force 90hz on gaming will cause battery drain, but we have Warp Charge which still retains fast charging speed while gaming, so who cares?
I hope the OnePlus team developer can do something about frame limited issues on massive games.

Games list which supports high refresh rate: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/09/15/android-games-phones-high-frame-rates-90-120fps/
All apps show 89-90fps. I play GTA SA and Razer show 89-90fps, but game have max 30fps.

That's because those games you tested are default at 30fps.
Refer the list of games which supports high-refresh rate from my OP.

Are there quality differences in the graphics? It is worse or the same?
What about the battery consumption?

Become smoother and more responsive while gaming. For battery, getting more consumption.
This app suck. Cortex always show 90fps...
I know this is a old thread but is this still a issue on op7t? Also does this trick actually work or does it just force the screen to stay at 90hz but game still runs at 60?

This trick works, watch the video from OP.
For stay at 90Hz but game still runs at 60Hz, just change to Auto 90Hz (from jOnePlusTools) or set to 90Hz from Settings App, because that's phone's default settings.

For stay at 90Hz buy game still runs at 60Hz, no need to change anything because the phone's default settings already did it.

Hi thanks for reply... Yeah I don't have the op7t I'm using the X2 Pro so can't use the app.... We have the same issue and was mainly curious to see if game updates or system updates sorted the issue.
Does you now is there any different from force 90Hz by using ADB command ?
Is this same as this... and what actually is show in phone Settings?
adb shell settings put global oneplus_screen_refresh_rate 0
Can you test both metods? Tnx
I was able to see the 'force 90hz' and 'refresh rate' option in the 'app' untill i updated to ob2 on my 7t.
Anyway fixes ?
nevermind, fixed it. i was using pixel 4 props and that's why couldn't see the option
Thankyou for the answers love to read the point of views from the different peoples here also

Auto switch between FHD @120hz & WQHD @60Hz on per app basis

UPDATE 09/12/20
EDIT: LOOKS LIKE BIXBY ROUTINES WAS UPDATED TO SUPPORT MOTION SMOOTHNESS AND SCREEN RESOLUTION AUTO SWITCHING, SO NO NEED FOR THE DYNAMIC DISPLAY APP OR ADB ANYMORE!
SETUP BIXBY ROUTINE
Settings
Advanced features
Bixby Routines
Add (+)
You can add an application (app opened) of your choice or whatever else you want
Under display you can select Motion Smoothness and Screen resolution
(In my case I selected Standard and WQHD+ for YouTube)
No need to create an exit routine, when you leave the app it will revert back to your original settings (in my case FHD+ Adaptive)

This doesn't seem to work for me. When it is supposed to switch back to 1080p 120hz (adaptive refresh) , it changes to 1080p 60hz (standard refresh).

You need to use the app that I linked. The link takes you too a reddit page where you need to get it from Github. Thats the app for the FPS. The Bixby routine is only for the resolution and only have of the steps needed.
I've used tasker profile to simply force some apps under 60hz
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/how-to/force-app-to-run-120hz-t4053133
I think adaptive refresh is not fully optimised
https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note20_ultra_5g-review-2149p3.php
and that causes the bad battery drain. Since I've implemented the tasker routine battery now drains normally. Hopefully next firmware update fixes it.

I downloaded it the app, did the adb commands. I think I followed the instructions correctly. Still didn't work.

When it switches back to 1080p its default is 60fps. In the top right corner of the app if you hit the 3 dots it has has an option to set default hz. Set it to 120hz.

Nice, but the goal with this is to force the resolution to change from 1080p to 1440p and vice-versa. The fps is to just reset 1080p back to 120hz automatically since it defaults to 60hz when switched back.

This is awesome, thank you! Does the 96hz refresh rate work as well?

I haven't tried the 96hz personally, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as your in 1080p. I don't think there is an option for 96hz in the default refresh rate setting so it be per app.
You could set it and try the UFO FPS test to see if its actually 96hz.
Why not just set bixby to use Youtube Vanced, I tried with youtube and still showed 1080p after bixby routine to 1440p

Hi whats the correct way of setting up bixby routines because I set YouTube vanced to work with wqhd and in the stats for nerds it works perfectly
But when I exit YouTube it does go back to fhd but doesn't automatically swith on adaptive smoothing

Thats what you need the Dynamic Display app for. Bixby routines will only switch the resolution. You need to use both Bixby Routines and Dynamic Display in conjunction.
Its explained in the main post.

I can't make this work, each version I get the same result.
I have the Bixby Routine set up, which works flawlessly.
But once I exit back to system the display does drop to FHD but only at Standard (60Hz).
I have set the default Hz in the Dynamic Display to 120 Hz, and I have enabled both the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS and the Accessibility option for Dynamic Display but still it doesn't work.

Yes, I used the one you posted first. And previous versions that the developer has released on the GitHub.
