[Q] should I update rom to fix sim card error

I need help knowing how to proceed with my daughter's tablet. I got her a used Note 8 from e-bay. The seller said they could not keep the sim card in. That was not a problem because we don't plan on using it with AT&T, and the price was right.
So the tablet comes and my daughter uses it for the afternoon with no problems. When I got home I was playing with it and put in an inactive sim card to see if it would stay in. It did, so I took it out and gave it back to my daughter. Now evey couple hours it gives me a message saying sim card added, restart your device to access the mobile network. If I pull down the settings menu it says no sim card. I cannot do anything though, so I am forced to restart. I cannot figure out what to do.
First I am not sure if I caused the problem by putting in the sim card for a minute or it was already there.
So I have tried a few things. The last thing I did was a data wipe, followed by clear cache, then I did a force stop on any at&t app. We still get the message.
I tried to update android as it is running 4.1.2 But is says it is up to date.
While trying to figure out what to do I discovered it is apparently rooted. I noticed it had SuperSU v1.80 installed. To check root I installed root checker from google play store. It says root access is verified. So I assume that is why I cannot update android.
Anyone else have this problem? I searched and couldn't find any solutions.
Any ideas on solving it?
Currently I am debating undoing root and seeing if I can update over the air. And hopefully fix the problem. Or updating with a custom rom to try to fix it. But I am not sure how to do that. It has been a really long time since I rooted anything.
I appreciate any help. Thank you, Sherry
When the message comes up I cannot do anything but access the settings drag down menu. It still says no sim card, but the message on the home page says there is and to restart. Must restart device. So after I restarted it I clicked on the notification that says no sim card for app info. It says it is system UI. At first I was hesitant to disable it, but finally gave it a try. It worked. No more sim card messages forcing me to restart. And so far everything works properly except for the background image. It is just a black screen. Everything else seems to function properly. Good enough for now I guess.

[Q] No service after custom rom installed

I previously had a Resurrection mod that was using jellybean. The new custom mod i installed is Cynaogenmod 12.1 lolipop.
After i installed the new custom rom i got a "Root Access Possibly Lost. fix" error message straight from CWM recovery mode. After the first long boot of the new custom mod i had no cell service. Also, i tried restarting into CWM but i think it is now lost because of that error message.
Anyways, i looked at the back of my phone and the IMEI number matches the number in the About Phone. Another thing of note is that there is no APN. I tried putting in the APN settings but it wouldnt save. It says: "Acess Point Name settings are not available for this user.
I'm new to rooting so, im not even sure how to root the phone again. Should that be my first step? WIll it be different because it has lolipop installed?
My phone:
SGH-T999
android version: 5.1.1
UPDATE Ok, it says "No Service" but i can make phone calls and send text messages. However, my DATA service isnt working, when i turn off WIFI i cant use the internet. Thats the problem.
Is the phone running the latest bootloader and modem?

Please help!!!!

Hello.
About a month ago suddenly my service connection dissapeared.a pic
The Phone reads the sim card and sees it (I don't have the "insert sim card" issue) but it's always searching a service/connection without finding it.
It gives me an Error in finding a network a pic
I thought its the sim card or something and I put the sim card in another phone and it worked (so the problem is in the phone itself).
I've tried to fix it in a many different ways and i didn't succeeded. I rooted and put a rom on itand it didnt work so I unrooted it. also i replaced the anthena.
i went into a store that could fix it. The phone was there for two weeks and they couldn't fix it!
I went to another store and without checking they talled me that this is a cpu problem (I doubt about it) and it cant be fixed.
PLEASE HELP
YOURE THE ONLY HOPE NOW!!!
thanks to all!

"No Service" despite a functioning SIM card being inserted

Hi all,
I was running on Fulmics 7.6 for close to a year now, and since it was my backup phone, it was usually on Wi-Fi. But I was able to use my Cricket SIM card before, until yesterday. I got a new SIM card from US Mobile, popped it in, and to my surprise: no data. I got the "No Service" message at the bottom of the notification drawer, and it said "Service disabled" at the top of the lock screen. When I try to update the APN, the "Mobile Networks" option is greyed out. I updated to Fulmics 8.0 and that didn't seem to work. I tried flashing Xceed kernel since some posts said a new kernel would help, and that didn't work. I wiped everything in TWRP, and reflashed, and that didn't work.
I was able to get data to work for a few minutes, when someone suggested using paper on top of the SIM card. After I restarted the phone... data did not work again. Then this morning, I updated Magisk from 13.3 (I think that's what was in Fulmics 8.0) to 15.7, and that got data to work again... but when I updated Magisk Manager to 5.7, data stopped working.
I've since tried clean installing Fulmics 8.0, updating Magisk but not the Manager, and even unrooted my phone and rerooted it. Still no dice. I'm drawing blanks here. The phone clearly detects the SIM, but it insists on not receiving data for some reason. I tried this with 2 different SIM cards that work in my other phones, so I'm not sure what the issue is here.
Probably, simcard slot is broken. Mine LG G3 MB got warranty change, because that problem was same like on yours phone
have you tried without simcard and did you see no serivce or no sim inserted?

If the SIM card is in, it says "service disabled". Without the SIM card, it says "No SIM inserted"

Question System update stuck on "Installing security update" for 24 hours now.

It's the 74.36 MB update, the one I guess you guys call "The November" update.
I sat down yesterday to set up my P6P. I decided to do it without inserting my EE SIM card, because I still need my old phone until I get the Pixel setup the way I need it.
Can the fact that there's no SIM in the phone be the cause of this issue? I even restarted the phone a couple of times and Settings > System > System Update still shows "Installing security update".
Anyone had an issue like that with their P6P?
Thanks.

I had that issue when I updated my phone as well (no sim card); it took me 3 or 4 reboots before it actually installed the update.
I didn't have this problem and I also did it without a SIM card.
