I just discovered this with a little research with people having similar wifi problems. Simply change your router settings to 2.4 ghz band instead of 5 ghz band. For some reason the G4 is having problems with 5 ghz bands.
Or if you cant do that, just connect your phone to the 2.4 ghz band of your wifi if your router is dual broadcasting.

I'm trying it, not sure if it'll work. I've had 2.4 and 5 networks saved, i've just deleted the 5 network, we'll see if it's better.
Adding this line to my build.prop seems to have fixed this issue for me. I'm still testing but my phone isn't having any issues on the 5Ghz AC band.
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180

Didn't work for me
not connecting to 5Ghz is NOT a fix at all..
i didn't tried the scan intervall, i'll test it.
but i can confirm that either the reception is low and that the phone love to loose the signal :/
It also sometimes says that it has bad internet conneciton, so it refuse to connect (didn't found the setting to disable this stupidity... I know that on stock android under wifi settings you can disable this behaviour)
Sometimes it is also refusing to connect to a wifi... it just say registering and stoped...
only way to force it : reboot the phone...
hope that a software update will fix these issues.

Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with connecting to my 802.11ac router (Apple's Time Capsule). In "Automatic" mode, it connects to my SSID via 2.4GHz only. When I go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced and choose Wi-Fi Frequency band as 5Ghz it finds 0 networks in the area.
FYI - I'm on 3.1.3 OxygenOS.
Is anyone experiencing similar issues?
Best,
Mash
Edit: To be clear, I have several devices including my laptop that are connected to the 5Ghz band. I've also used a WiFi scanner in my old S6 Edge to verify that there are SSIDs broadcasting in the 5Ghz band.
I use 5 GHz network at home and it works fine with my op3.
Wysłane ze zmywarki
using 5Ghz on Fritzbox, i also use diffrent ssid names for 2,4 and 5ghz and also different passwords
Thanks guys. Are both of you on 3.1.3? I'm trying to isolate the issue here...

Got a 3TB time capsule here. OOS 3.1.3 - on automatic, it only connects to 2G despite having full 5G signal, however if i switch it to 5G only, it finds both main and guest networks in that band and connects fine Try re-flashing stock rom
Thanks - I'll try and do a nandroid backup and reflash to see if that fixes the issue.

3.1.3 stock, not rooted
Check what frequency and channel width your 5ghz band is set to, one time I changed my 2.4ghz and my ps4 couldn't detect it til I changed back.
Just tried 5Ghz without issue using channel widths 20Mhz, 40Mhz, and 80Mhz.

Thanks guys. I wonder if I've got a lemon.
I've just reflashed 3.1.3 and even then can't find or detect ANY 5GHz SSIDs. This is so frustrating.
I guess a call to support is the way forward.

Check if you are able to connect to a different 5GHz Network. It _might_ be an issue with the router itself.
Mine OP3 connects to 2.4 and 5 without any problems (TP-Link Archer C7).

Try going into advanced wifi settings and setting your network mode to 5ghz only. Inconvenient but will do the job.

does not work here.... tested on both rooted and unrooted
Have tested a few times and the upload speeds over WiFi are horrible. needs ages to even start transmitting and when it does i get 0.01 and sometimes 1 Mbit/s while every other device on the network gets 6 Mbit/s up.
So does anybody here have similar issues or maybe a solution? Download is also bad sometimes but not as bad as upload.
No, anything good with xiaomi.eu ROm
Gesendet von meinem MI 5s Plus mit Tapatalk
My results on Ookla speedtest:
1. mobile: Ping 67, Upload 1,1 MBit, Download 7,6 MBit - o2 Germany 3G (yesterday)
2. Wifi: Ping 24, Download 45,19 MBit, Upload 9,39 MBit - 1+1 Germany
3. mobile tonight: Ping 76, Download 17,29 MBit (1st test) and 28,89 MBit (2nd test), Upload 4,87 MBit - o2 Germany 3G
Here in germany we need in o2/ vodafone mobile web Band 20 for good 4G-connections, missing in Mi5S.
Sometimes the 3G-connections are horrible, sometimes okay.
Xiaomi.eu rom, newest stable version.
I just tested WIFI with the website http://testmy.net, received 82 Mbit/s download und 51 Mbit/s upload rate, this is good.
Latest China Stable ROM.
I tested again and the issue only seems to occur with 2.4 GHz networks, the 5 GHz is fine. Maybe it's a hardware issue after all
2.4 can be very overcrowded and also cause speed issues. Also which ROM are you running? If you aren't using the official China ROM, then there is the possibility of bad drivers.

Haven't changed ROMs or anything really yet but I will probably flash the eu rom based on the feedback in this thread. System info says MIUI Global 8.0.
You have to check exact version. Latest official is 8.0.18.0. If you have an additional 0 in the number, it's a fake shop rom. Also if you have any other language than Chinese and English, it's a fake ROM. Don't forget, even the xiaomi.eu ROM is a custom ROM, with all it's up and down sides.

Have you checked that your Wifi network isn't on the same channel as someone else's nearby? Get Wifi analyzer and check the channels, and if necessary, change your wifi channel from your router's settings.
I have the Xiaomi.eu weekly ROM and I get maximum speeds in both directions that my internet connection allows. About 50/30 Mbps down/up. Haven't tried moving files within my home network, I'll test that once I'm back at my apartment and update here.

Not necessary, WiFi is fine and always has been on any other device.

Yeah, I just checked my version number and it seems I have a custom Vendor ROM with Version 8.0.10.0.0 ...
Will flash the Xiaomi.eu version and test again, thanks for the heads up!
Hi,
first of all i am on MIUI 8 (8.1.5 Global Stable) and my Wifi seems to be really slow. Sometimes i got only 1 MBps with a speedtest although i'm on a 75MBit internet connection behind the wifi router. Most of the time i reach about 8MBit and sometimes 35MBit.
The problem occured on 8.1.3 the first time and i flashed 8.1.5 via TWRP and started from scratch (wiped) but it remains the same. Maybe it's a hardware defect.
Anyway - Could you do a speedtest and tell me which connection you have and which max bandwidth you can achieve with the Mi Max?
Also i considered flashing just a new radio, because TWRP update doesn't flash radio.
So could you tell me what version is the current baseband (radio)? Just check in Phone Information. I would really appreciate to know if there is a newer radio and how to flash it safely (phone is officially unlocked).
Thank you

To begin, I advise you to test your wi-fi on several different devices. If only Mi Max will have a bad rate, then it is necessary to look for the problem and if all devices have the same speed of the Internet, the problem is in the router.
5ghz or 2.4ghz is your router using?
I also has this issue. and i found out that it happens only with specific routers (like i have in my home).
I think that i found a workaround for my home - i use Xiaomi mi adapter as a repeater and connect to it and it works much faster..
Other phones on the same network don't have the problem.

Nope,
I meant Xiaomi WIFI Repeater Amplifier: 7-8$
http://xiaomi-mi.com/mi-wifi/xiaomi-mi-wifi-amplifier/
yes correct i am using that mi wifi extender it works great but need to configure it under mi home app
My version is 8.2.5.0 and my WiFi is slow!! It takes time to play even 144p videos in youtube .
Why it is slow ?? And what is the solution ??
I have the same problem. But I have slow DL rates at any wifi router, and also LTE. Changed many ROMs and the problem persist.
i think im having same problem.. im getting 2.8MB/s on a 100Mb network.
Speed in 4g data mode is working fine.. the problem is on wifi only.
The Wi-Fi does seem slower than other phones. I'm on MIUI 10 8.8.9 eu ROM and the maximum I can get connected to an Asus AC68 router is ~150Mb, whereas my Galaxy Note 4 does ~250Mb over the same 5Ghz 400Mb connection.

I have this same problem did you ever find a solution? Did you get a new router, cause that is were am at right now.
Yes, fixed when I did official ROM update via OTA to MIUI10 and now MIUI11. With the same router I got 300Mbps.
I have recently upgraded the router to the Asus AC86U but only for better 5Ghz range for all my devices. The slow issue was definitely the phoned software.

So, I'm a little late on this, but since there're no answers yet...
One thing I noticed: I can't turn on the tethering if I choose the 5 Ghz band. Don't know why, it says it's not available in this country (I live in Germany). If I choose 2.4 Ghz it works without issue. Hope that helps someone. :fingers-crossed:
What's the point of tethering when hotspot works flawlessly? I've played Fortnite while traveling on my laptop on the 5ghz band of my Mi Max 3 with no lag.
